Everytime

Nobody had expected it. They knew it would be bad. After all, Yugi had been crowned 'King of Games' just a week ago. Everyone knew there would be problems. Journalists, fans, even stalkers. But nobody knew it would ever get so bad as to need bodyguards.

Notice me
take my hand
why are we
Strangers when
our love is strong
Why carry on without me?

Everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby

And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, it's haunting me
I guess I need you baby

A huge mob had gathered outside the hotel, and before the limo had even stopped moving it had been swarmed. Inside, Yugi and Yami had sighed in frustration, before stepping out where they were immediately surrounded by bodyguards trying to hold the teeming masses back.

I make believe
That you are here
It's the only way
I see clear
What have I done
You seem to move on easy

And everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby

And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, you're haunting me
I guess I need you baby

Yugi cried out as a hand grabbed his hair, quickly followed by others, pulling harshly. As the guards forced the crowd back, Yami stepped up, yanking Yugi away from the man who had a grip on his hair and giving the offender a vicious shot in the mouth before virtually dragging the smaller boy into the hotel.

"I don't care anymore, I just want it to stop!" Another argument. They were becoming a regular occurrence now. "Well, what do you suggest I do?" Yugi winced as Yami lifted a huge vase, hurling it at the wall in his anger.

I may have made it rain
Please forgive me
My weakness caused you pain
And this song is my sorry
Ohhhh

At night I pray
That soon your face
Will fade away

Yugi stomped into the bathroom, jerkily tearing his clothes off and climbing into the bath, sinking down into the hot water. As he lowered himself in, his feet slipped and he banged his head on the side of the tub. Wincing, He reached to feel. The hand came back slick with blood, and Yugi gave a soft "oh" before falling unconscious and sinking below the surface.

Yami angrily smashed his fist through the glass-topped table, then swore as the pain broke through his rage. As his mind cleared of it's red haze, he began to think clearly, and instantly regretted the way he had shouted at Yugi. His mind made in a flash, Yami got up to go and apologise.

"Yugi? Yugi, I...I'm sor..." Yami froze for a moment as he took in the scene: Yugi, unmoving below rose-tinted water. Then he jumped in, dragging the boy up, desperately trying to revive him.

And everytime I try to fly
I fall without my wings
I feel so small
I guess I need you baby
And everytime I see you in my dreams
I see your face, you're haunting me
I guess I need you baby

"Yugi! Wake up, Yugi!" Yami's pleas became more and more incoherent as he struggled with the smaller form, breathing into his mouth every few seconds. Gaining no reaction, he desperately shook the boy, willing him to wake. "I won't let you go! I won't let you go!" A loud chocking cough broke into his panic-fogged brain and he looked down, almost crying with relief as he saw Yugi's eyes flutter open. He sent a quick prayer of thanks to Ra before clutching Yugi to his chest in a bone-crushing embrace. "Y...Yami?" Yami gently shushed his smaller half. "Don't ever scare me like that again, chibi tenshi." As the last of his coughing abated, Yugi looked up at Yami for a moment, then sank against him.

"Ai shitteru, Yami"
