A/N: This works as a stand-alone fic, but was inspired by my story 'Fate and Fate's Consequences' as kind of a what-if for the end of chapter 7.

WEREWOLVES MATE FOR LIFE

Harry tucked Remus Lupin into the large bed lovingly. It was the morning following the full moon and the man fell asleep instantly, the moment his head touched the pillow.

Harry stroked the pale cheek of the object of his affections, upon which he then placed a small kiss. He looked adoringly at the man who now slept so peacefully.

'I love you,' he thought. 'I don't think I'll ever stop loving you.'

He had considered telling Remus everything, but he couldn't stand the thought of being rejected. But he told himself that while Remus was within the confines of sleep, it didn't matter what he said.

Harry gazed upon the sleeping man and took a deep breath, to say the words that he had never said to anyone before. The words that he had never heard said to him. The words that meant more than he could have ever imagined.

"I love you Remus," he said quietly, and he put everything he had into the words.

The sleeping man shifted slightly, and for a breathtaking moment Harry thought that maybe he was not asleep after all. Then Remus spoke as only a sleeping man could, mumbling into his pillow.

"I love you too, Sirius."

Harry felt his heart break.
