Always There For You

Prologue

A strong storm was beginning to unfold as the minivan drove down the busy street in Tokyo. Lightening illuminated the dark sky and thunder boomed, making the young girl in the back seat shudder in fear.

"We're almost there, dear," the girl's mother said, smiling at her two children in the back. "We can start over here. Grandpa said he had the house ready so we only have to move our personal belongings inside."
The young girl remained silent. Her eyes expressionless and staring out the window to look at the surrounding homes. The car turned a corner and into a small suburb when another sound of thunder made the windows of nearby homes shake. "Okay kids. Here we are; Higurashi Shrine." The mother said smiling. "Kagome dear, would you help your brother take in some of the bags? I'm going to go inside and talk to your grandfather."
Kagome only nodded and turned to her brother. "Souta, let's go. You take those bags in the front. I'll get the rest."
The twelve year old nodded. "Sure. But are you sure you don't want some help with those? They look heavy."
"I'm sure. Now get inside before you get soaked."

Souta grabbed their bags and ran inside the small home, the rain seeming not to touch him. The storm was starting to lose some of its strength now, but Kagome knew another would come soon.

'That boy has no cares in the world.' Kagome thought. 'I wish I could be like that…' She grabbed her belongings and went into the house, making sure no one saw her go up to find her room. She found it quickly, since it was the first door up the stairs. Dropping her bags onto a nearby chair, Kagome flopped onto her bed, wanting to go to sleep. 'I may not like this, but I know this was a change for the better.'
