Katie tugged the covers up over her eyes, blocking her vision from
the outside world and promise of a new day. She was sick of growing up.
Everyone else could go ahead and spend their last year in high school
looking forward to graduation and beginning their lives in the open world.
She would be happy remaining a child and keeping herself under the
protection of her covers. Under the protection of fabric promising her a
few solemn hours away from everything. No wonder she was called a night owl
by most of her friends and elders. She looked forward to the darkness
falling over the Earth and encasing them in a tender silence that would
last until the next morning. If only there was some way to get away from
it. If only there was something to lead her into an infinite vortex away
from nostalgia. There was never enough time for her thoughts... never... and
she would soon be engulfed by the sleep that ached in her form.
"Sano!" yelped a young voice, the cry stifled by the barrier of someone's hand. Yahiko glared up into the eyes of the older man, his brows nearly joining together in the center of his head. Sanosuke smirked, folding two arms rather arrogantly across his chest as though daring Yahiko to continue. His lips parted to allow another loud shout out, stopped by a simple motion of Kenshin's hand. Kenshin had attempted to ignore the two up until now, but he couldn't have them destroying everything for tonight. He directed them towards the window as mere lookouts before silently creeping towards the bed. Katie's soft snores carried only inches from her bed, but just enough to signify her sleep. Kenshin leaned over, watching her silken lids and silently begging them to remain shut as he slipped one arm about her. His prayers were not answered.
"Who the hell are you?" Katie shrieked; her voice muffled in the same way as Yahiko's. Kenshin's voice went completely astray, desperately searching for the best explanation. Certainly, this woman would not expect two grown men and a young boy to be wandering around her room in the middle of the night, especially when she had never seen them before in her life. During Kenshin's befuddled blurbs that could hardly be called words, Katie's eyes grew wide. This man was familiar, even though she was absolutely positive that he shouldn't. Cartoons weren't real. She rubbed her eyes and wished them away before laying back down... only to be hoisted into the air seconds later...
