Chapter 11 – The Council
That night Buffy dreamed of her mother "You know they are going to come."
"Who mom?"
"The nine black riders."
"What do they want from me?"
"You and the Ring"
Then the flaming lidless eyeball appeared. "You are mine!!!" Buffy awoke sweating.
"It was only a dream," says Buffy trying to convince herself. After the nightmare, Buffy decided to get up. Lying on the chair next to the bed was another beautiful dress of forest green. Buffy dressed and went to breakfast.
Buffy was wandering around trying to find the Council Meeting she was invited to attend. When she spied to of the hobbits.
"Shush, Pippin they are going to hear us." Says Merry
"Pippin and Merry, what are you doing?" asked Buffy
"Shush, we are listening to the council meeting," says Pippin.
"Okay" says Buffy trying not to laugh.
As she walked in the area where the council meeting was, she saw several different people. There was Dwarves, the three Elves she saw the other day, Aragorn, a ruff looking man with shaggy reddish blonde hair, Frodo, Gandalf, and Elrond. Frodo was gesturing for her to come sit next to him.
"There she is" says Elrond "we can start now."
"We were waiting for a woman," snarls Boromir.
Before Buffy had a chance to say anything. Gandalf spoke up. "Lady Buffy is more than she appears."
"People from distant lands, you are here to debate about a subject that concern us all. You will unite or you will fall." Elrond turned toward Frodo and pointed a large round stone in the center of the assembly. "Show them the ring, Frodo Baggins."
Frodo timidly sets the ring on the table as though a great weight was lifted off his shoulders and returns to his sit. Buffy gently pats him on the shoulder offering her support. Frodo smiles his thanks to her.
As Elrond continues on about the history of the ring, Buffy zones out thinking how Elves were so yummy.
Suddenly, the shaggy guy with reddish blonde hair stood up. "This ring is a gift to all the enemies of Mordor. Why not use it against them?"
"No," Aragorn said. "No one can control it, Boromir."
"And what does a Ranger know about that?
An Elf stands up and takes a step toward Boromir. "He isn't any Ranger. He's Aragorn, the son of Arathorn."
Boromir turned and glared at Aragon. "The descendant of Isildur."
"And the rightful heir of the throne of Gondor," the Elf said.
"Sit down, Legolas" says Aragorn
Boromir shot a look full of hatred at Aragorn. "Gondor doesn't have a king... and Gondor doesn't need a king."
Finally having enough with their childish behavior, Elrond stood up. "Aragorn is right. The ring must be destroyed."
"What are we waiting for?" One of the Dwarves suddenly picked up his axe and hits the golden ring. Buffy and Frodo winced when the axe struck the ring.
The axe exploded. When the cloud of smoke dissipated, the ring was still there on the stone, completely unharmed. "The ring can't be destroyed by anything in our possession, Gimli son of Gloin. The ring was made in the fire of Mountain Doom; it is only there that it can be unmade. One of you must do it."
Silence established itself around the council.
A sighed escaped Boromir's lips. "Nobody can simply enter in Mordor. The black gates are constantly guarded by evil that does not sleep. Air is poisonous. Even a thousand men could not do it."
Legolas stood up again. "Haven't you heard what Lord Elrond said? The ring must be destroyed."
Suddenly, Gimli jumped out of his chair and took a step toward the Elf. "Uh oh," Buffy thought. "This is bad news."
"And I suppose you think you are the one to do it," the Dwarf said with an angry voice. The hatred between Dwarves and Elves was legendary. "I would prefer to die than see that ring in the hand of an Elf!"
The room exploded. Tension was so thick it could be cut with a knife. Buffy sat quietly when she saw everybody stand up, confronting one another with pointless arguments. In front of her, Frodo stared at the ring without batting an eye. She could feel the evil around the ring, and understood what was happening. The ring carried so great an evil that it influenced everyone around. It was as if it had a will of its own.
She gasped when Frodo stood up and got closer to the ring. "I'll do it." No one heard him over the arguments. Finally Buffy had enough. "EVERYONE SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN!!!" She yells. Everyone is so shocked they quieted down. "Frodo has something to say."
"I will take the ring to Mordor, however I do not know the way." Says Frodo
Everyone turned toward the small man with a surprised look on their faces. Gandalf smiled and came to stand behind his protégé. "I'll help you carry this burden as long as it is yours to carry."
Aragorn kneeled in front of the Hobbit. "And if I can protect you with my life, I will. You have my sword."
Legolas crossed the distance to the Hobbit. "And you have my bow."
"And my axe!" the dwarf said. The Elf rolled his eyes when Gimli stood next to him, glaring at him in defiance.
Boromir walked to them calmly. "You have our faith in your hands, Little One. And if it is the wish of this council, then Gondor will see it done."
"Hey, Frodo won't go anywhere without me!" Sam jumped from the bushes where he had been hiding for the last half an hour.
Elrond smiled. "No, you two can't be separated even when one is invited to a secret assembly and you're not," he stated, completely amused by the whole situation.
Merry and Pippin came running from another direction. "We are going too!" Elrond frowned when two other Hobbits came running in the circle, evidence that not only Sam had spied on the council meeting that was suppose to be secret. "Anyway you need intelligent people along," Pippin stated.
"That means you're in the wrong place, Pippin," Merry said, joking as ever.
"I will also be coming along," stated Buffy. Every face turned toward the only female assisting to the council. Buffy smiled at Frodo. "I will protect you with my life." She took her place next to Boromir.
Elrond states proudly. "You will be the Fellowship of the ring."
The next day, Buffy decided she wanted to wear her own clothes. She dressed in her leather pants, combat boots and a turtleneck shirt and set out to explore Rivendell. She decided to bring her sword and daggers to get some training done. She was hyper with suppressed energy from not slaying for so long. As she was walking around she saw Aragorn.
"I see you bought your sword do you want to spar?" asked Aragorn
"Yes, it feels like forever since we last fought, first blood?" asked Buffy
Buffy pulled out her sword and swirled it a round a couple times and settled in her fighting stand.
Aragorn, who fought her before, decided to attack first by striking Buffy's left arm, which she deflected. Then she slashed towards his upper torso, he blocked. He made a move towards her neck, which she blocked. Than she spun around, her back to Aragorn, blocking his latest slash with her sword. She jumped and did a twist in the air, landed on her feet made a sweep kick, which he just managed to keep his feet. Their swords clashed furiously, neither giving an inch.
The other members of the fellowship showed up during the middle of the match, each were awestruck by how great a sword's person Buffy was.
When Buffy decided she wanted to end the match she did a flip over Aragorn and swinging her sword, which nicked Aragorn in the shoulder. This ended the fight, because first blood was drawn.
"I'm glad you decided not to hold back this time." Stated Buffy.
"You are a great swords person" complimented Aragorn, "I saw no reason to hold back."
"Forgive me Lady Buffy, for doubting your value to the Fellowship." Exclaims Boromir.
"No problem." says Buffy
"Lady Buffy, can you handle any other weapons?" asked Legolas
"I can handle any weapons with very little training." Stated Buffy "It's part of the slayer package."
"What's a slayer?" asks Legolas
"Just like it sounds I slay things." Stated Buffy, "evil things such as, vampires and demons."
"Can you shoot a bow?" asks Legolas
"I have shot a crossbow."
"Can you fight with an axe?" asked Gimli
"I have fought with a Troll hammer." Said Buffy. That pretty much silent everyone, because they knew how heavy a Troll hammer is.
As everyone was discussing different weapons, Elrond and Gandalf show up.
"You will need to leave at first light tomorrow." Says Elrond
So everyone retires to pack and get ready for tomorrow.
