Author Notes: This is a short fan-fiction I wrote from drawing inspiration from Allies 'arcadia inquier' article. Now see the Adam/Joan secret love child was pretty funny... but of course there has to be a more serious side... so here it is...
Dedication: Allie (Yup, another one to Allie) for her article she wrote and her constant ways of giving me inspiration.

"Joan, hunny, do you think you'll be okay here by yourself?"
"Yes, mom, I'll be fine, it's just a little stomach flu" Joan reashured her mother.
"Alright then, we'll be home by ten, Kevins game shouldn't last that long" Helen kissed her daughters forhead before heading out the door.
After her mother had left, Joan let out a much needed scream and ploped down onto her bed.
"How could this have happened?" she asked herself, unsure of what to do next.
"Do I tell Adam? and if so, how? will my family hate me? will I have to quit school?" all these questions raced around in Joans mind until she could no longer hold back her tears.
This had not been the plan. It was not suposed to even come close to this result... but it had, and now it was too late, Joan was pregnant.
It hadn't been a one night stand or some high school mating ritual... what Joan and Adam had that night was real. They had found their undying love for eachother in that moment, and both knew their conection was truly a god given gift.
Joan thought about talking to Grace. She could always count on her best friend to listen and return with a comment such as "you're an idiot Girardi". Yeah, Grace always lets you know right where you stand in the world. However, she had decided Adam should be the first to know, after all her life wasn't the only one effected by this.
She picked up the phone to call Adam.
"Hello?"
"Adam?"
"Jane?"
"Yeah, it's me... Listen, Adam, we need to talk, can you come over?"
"Cha, sure, why? What's wrong Jane?"
"Everything..."
"I'm on my way"
------
Joan didn't care about how she looked or what she was wearing, Adam would "just have to like it" she decided, running down the stairs in her ducky pajamas. She was relieved with the doorbell finaly rang, signaling Adams arival.
"Hey, come on in Adam"
"Thanks, Jane" he smiled, steping inside. "So what is it we need to talk about?"
Joan led him into the living room and to the couch. She slowly sat down beside him, taking his hand and softly holding it in hers. She looked in his eyes and began to talk.
"Adam... do you remember that night not to long ago at your job?"
"Cha, how could I forget, Jane?" he squeezed her hand "it was amazing"
"yeah" she smiled, "it realy was... but there's more to it than that..."
"What do you mean?"
"Adam... I've been realy sick lately and I've had some wierd cravings..."
"Me too Jane... this morning I ate a pickle... I hate pickles..."
"No, Adam, I'm... I'm pregnant"
Adams eyes widened.
"I took the at home test earlier. You're the first to know..."
"You mean you and me... we're going to be parents?"
"Yeah, Adam, we are" she offered a small smile and began to cry.
Adam took Joan into his arms, holding her tightly to him.
"It's going to be okay" he whispered into her ear.
"Nothings okay anymore" she sobbed.
"I promise Jane, I'm going to be here for you nomatter what.... I love you, you know that"
Joan clung onto him, returning his tight grip.
"I love you too, Adam" she cried.

They decided the would tell Grace and Luke at the same time to make things easier. Neither knew how they would break the news to their parents.
The first chance they had, Adam and Joan pulled their friends aside in the hallway.
"Now what we are about to tell you is confidential. It stays between the four of us..." Joan shot Luke an evil glance "got that dogboy?"
"yeah, sure, why are you looking at me like that?"
"Get on with it, Girardi" Grace begged, "I'm bored already"
Joan took Adams hand for strength. This was it, it was real and there was no turning back.
"Adam and I... we're..."
"getting married?" Grace chimed in, "Congratulations, can we go now?"
"No, Grace, what Jane is trying to say is that we're having a baby... Janes pregnant"
The looks on their faces would have made for perfect greeting cards right at that moment. Both could only imagine what their friends were thinking, as they offered no words.
------
Their next task was not so easy. That night Joan had volunteered to make dinner. She invited Mr.Rove and Adam to join her family for the meal. Joans nervousness was suddenly calmed when the doorbell rang at promptly six pm. It was comforting to know Adam was going to be by her side.
"Hello Miss Girardi, thank you for inviting us" Carl thanked Joan as he steped inside handing her a plate of cookies "Adam made them" he stated.
Joan and Adam exchanged a glance. This wasn't going to be easy. They entered the dining room, where the table had been set and dinner ready to be served. They were having spaghetti, one of her fathers forvorite meals. They had hoped the food would help to put their parents in a calm state of mind.
Luke sat at the table with anticipation. Not that he wanted to see his sister in this position, but he would be glad when it was no longer a secret he had to keep. Luke had never been good with secrets, it was hard for him to even lie to himself.
Under the table Adam had ahold of Joans hand. He gave it a tight squeeze, reassuring her that, just as he promised, everything would be alright.
"Well, everyone" Joan interupted the silence "As I'm sure you know, there is a reason I... we... have gotten all of you together..."
Helen couldn't help but to smile. She had asumed this gathering was to anounce the couples relationship. Althought their involvement with eachother was quite obvious, they had never officialy told any of their friends or families.
"Mom, Dad, Kevin, Luke, and Mr.Rove... Adam and I... we've been together for some time now and just recently we had decided to take it to the next level... It was completely unplanned and we were both very foolish..."
"What are you trying to say, Joan?" Will had a very worried yet stern look on his face.
Sudenly nervous Joan let the words spill out "I'm pregnant. I'm... We're going to have a baby."
