A Few Simple Notes: Today is June 12, 2005, slowly I'm rewriting the beginning of this story, changing the dialogue and whipping a few more images to life. I will not antagonize Kikyou in this story. Please review, and constructive criticism will be fully appreciated. And I hope you'll enjoy your trip!
Chapter 1: Demon of Demons
Filthy, he thought, their smell is everywhere. Now where is the one I'm looking for?
He walks on – a lone white figure in the crowd. His white yukata trailing behind him and a sharp knife sheathed beneath his armor, hidden as deadly claws inflexed, waiting to strike.
Stalking the streets, he grins as the humans scamper away when he turns his gaze upon them. He loves that power. His glare can turn anyone into stone. Why did he send me to look for this piece of filth? It's just a human…A weak little worthless human. He sighs knowing that he has to dirty his hands with that kind of filthy blood again.
He is the perfect assassin.
Sesshoumaru stalks down the muddy road, passing rows of grey huts with cracking walls, and falling bricks. In the corner, a child cries as he sees the sight of the tall demon. His cloths are dirty, full of patches and a streak of black runs across his face. Snot, dirt, food, who knows. Disgusting, that is the only word floating within the tall demon's mind.
Suddenly the human scent diminish, replacing is the sweet aroma of lilac.
"Kikyo, look!" a musical voice rings through the valley as she holds a purple blossom.
Another girl in the red hakama turns facing her and smiles, "now Kagome, I'm here giving you a lesson on herbs, remember?"
The air of late spring is crisp, as the sun is setting behind the tallest peak of the Nine Mountains. Life is flowing back into everything from the stillness of the winder snow. Trees are swaying their newly sewn branches in the gentle breeze as nightingales begin their song.
"Ya, Ya, I know," Kagome replies rolling her eyes.
The sky is dimming, almost there…he thought, walking towards the foot of the tallest of the Nine Mountains.
Then he hears the sound of laughter. Then two girls comes into his view. He smiles, not a nice smile, you won't be laughing for long, I promise you. When Sesshoumaru smiles, someone perishes miserably thereafter.
He watches them for a while, with utter boredom, his silver mane and boa floats behind him, silently as a wrath in the wind. The two girls are looking for some kind of plant. They are sisters. Their resemblance is striking, flowing raven hair, moonlight pale skin. Except the one named Kikyou's hair is loosely held by a white ribbon and dark locks are loosening from it. And the other almost identical yet…
her eyes are dark violet.
His glance linger on the other girl, while his hand slides towards the cold handle of his favourite knife. He is fond of that old piece of metal, because he executed many with its very own blade. It's the blade that cuts sharp and deep, silently, secretly spilling every last drop of blood before his victim can even scream. I'm going to make this quick, he thought. Emotionless, his sculptured face blends in with the darkness…The girl's voice is musical, her hair with flowers intertwined within drapes loosely over her shoulders. The tallest peak of the Nine Mountains is the one that is beyond the orange clouds above.
The painting-like scenery will be blood drenched soon.
He watches without emotion, waiting for his perfect chance. The sky is a deep shade of red as the sun dies. The cloak of night slowly covers the land.
"Kagome, it's time," Kikyou says holding a basket full of plants they have gathered.
"Go ahead," the lilac girl says. "I want to watch the sunset."
She turns to leave.
The Nine Mountains stand tall, bathing in the light from the dying sun.
Then he notices her walking towards him. Before he can react, she looks up.
"Hey there," she smiles, a sweet smile. "You look lost," her dark violet eyes sparkling.
Pff, he thought mentally, what a stupid human, haha, she has no idea what I'm here to do, "I'm I?" He asks with a monotone voice. How dare she question me?
She steps closer as the smell of lilac engulfs him.
He is slightly distracted by that smell of flowers, ok, haul the girl into the forest, draw out your knife, then kill her, and make it quick so you can get out of this filth infested place…
"Here," she holds out her hand, "when you hold this flower, you forget all the troubles." In her grasp, a tiny white wildflower is in full bloom. Her smile genuine, true…
She is really stupid, he thought, it's a pity. Then he looks at her face close…that's the only human that ever smiles at him without fear, without desperation, without the pleading smile for their life that makes him sick. He sees that smile every time. And her violet eyes…she's…pretty, then he laughs inwardly, almost, he thought. Too bad she's born a human.
"What are you staring at?" her voice echoes through the valley. His boa appears orange from the last ray of sunlight. His inner voice says, what is wrong with you? It's a worthless piece of filth, why are you hesitating? That's right…His thought answers.
Suddenly he leaps at her, his hand covering her mouth, no scream ever came…She struggles in his arms, but he pins her firmly she can barely move. A strand of her silky hair brushes past his hand as she struggles. The lilac smell is really strong…She can't speak because his strong hand is clasped over her mouth. From experience, he attacks by surprise, usually before his victim even realizes.
He drags her deeper into the forest, the sun is almost all gone.
