Chapter 3 – You Can't Deny Love

The next school day was very different for the RFR crew. Robbie wasn't talking to Lily, and Lily wasn't talking to Robbie. Travis and Ray found themselves caught in the middle of a very unlikely and confusing conflict, but neither of them knew how to fix it. All in all, their group was once again in turmoil.

Once school ended, however, Robbie immediately found himself committing the most daring move of his life.

He'd been contemplating it since the night before, after hearing Lily's comment on 'crushes going nowhere', and now he was putting it into action.

The school parking lot sat in the back of the school, most of it shaded by numerous trees. The lot wasn't very big, since there weren't many students at Roscoe High.

But, as Robbie approached it, several cars occupied the lot, and many students flooded into it. His eyes scanned the area until he found her.

Her dark, curly hair swayed slightly in the breeze, and her meticulous outfit matched with uttermost perfection. Her car keys swung loosely from her right palm, and her head was tilted upward with self righteousness.

Running towards her, Robbie called out her name, and watched with a racing heart as she turned to face him.

Her initial reaction to hearing someone call her name was: Oh great, here comes another numb skull to ask about the spirit club. But, when she turned around, her reaction quickly changed to: oh God.

Kim found her mouth dropping open slightly at the sight of him, and her eyes had grown wide with fear. Almost instantly, however, she replaced her demeanor with one of pompousness.

"What do you want, McGrath." She asked as she approached her car and unlocked the door.

"I just want to talk to you." Robbie replied, walking right up to her. He wasn't going to back down yet, not after coming this far.

"Well, that will just have to wait until your old enough. Goodbye." She smirked, tilting her head and opening her car door.

Rolling his eyes, Robbie reached over and closed the door and held his hand over it, so as to keep her from attempting to get away.

"Don't make me accuse you of assault, McGrath." Kim felt a jolt of fear come to her as she stared into his eyes. They were fiery and determined, and she knew that she was not going to get away from him so quickly.

"Just let me say something." He replied, watching her roll her eyes and sigh deeply.

"Fine."

Robbie almost couldn't believe his luck. She was actually agreeing to talk to him! Then again, he was prohibiting her from driving away, so what else was she going to do. But he tried not to think of it that way.

"Kim, I know that we're two very different people...but I also know that I have feelings for you, whether I like it or not."

Kim stared up at him, and her face had gone slack of all the dignity she could muster. She couldn't believe his courage; coming up to her like this, telling her that he likes her...but why wasn't she mad?

"I don't know if you think about that one night all the time, but I do. And...I can't help but feel that maybe...maybe you like me back."

Oh, just take me in your arms now, Robbie! Kim thought wildly, suddenly kicking herself for wanting that. No, no, no! I don't like him, I don't like him...I do like him.

"I-"

"You don't have to say anything, just show to me somehow that maybe we could have a chance...I hate just being in a...in a crush going nowhere."

Kim couldn't believe it. All she had to do was say yes, and then she could be with him. But then again, all she had to do was say yes, and then her entire school career would go down the drain.

Status was a big thing to her...but, as she stared up into his eyes, she found that loving someone was too.

Robbie was just staring at her, he could tell that she was conflicting with herself inside, but he couldn't decide what she was thinking.

All in all, he knew that this little trip of his wasn't wasted...after all, he had gotten Kim Carlisle to stumble out of her façade before, and so he could do it again.

What am I going to do? She couldn't get her mind straight, couldn't make such a decision right now.

Suddenly, she thought of the song she had heard on the radio those few days before.

And when the tears you crybr Are all you can believebr Just give these loving arms a trybr And have a little faith in mebr

Her heart seemed to be speaking louder than her reason at that moment, and, as she glanced around nervously, hoping no one would see, she placed her hands on Robbie's shoulders and crushed her mouth upon his.

Kim's arms wound their way around his neck as they kissed, and she pressed her body against his. This was how it was meant to be...she thought insanely, kissing him deeper still.

Robbie's eyes flew open in shock at what was happening: this beautiful girl, kissing HIM without him having to do anything but talk. This was heaven!

He held her closer and kissed her back, her body tiny against his. He'd never felt like this before, and had never kissed anyone this...passionately, before. Nothing seemed to make sense, but he was glad it didn't.

Kim felt so content, and as they broke for air she studied his face from up close. Oh, he's gorgeous, she thought.

Without warning, however, her reason hit her and she backed away from him, her eyes fierce with fright.

What have I done? She thought wildly. What has HE done? Oh, I've blown it now. Now he's going to be after me every second. I won't be able to escape him!

But it was so beautiful...another part of her said as she stared at him, his eyes confused and his face shocked. She longed to just go back into his arms, but her better reason told her to get in her car and drive away.

Opening the door, she slid inside without saying a word to Robbie and drove off quickly, leaving him standing in the parking lot, more confused than ever.

"Lily?"

"What do you want, Robbie?" Lily replied, sighing with annoyance into the phone.

"I need your advice." Robbie answered on the other line, his voice urgent.

Lily had fumed and fussed about Robbie all day, and now he was suddenly acting as though nothing had happened! Then again, she thought, there really was no reason to be mad at him...

"What is it?" She asked, this time concerned. He sounded so worried and so rushed, and he was usually so sure of everything. This was a big change.

"It's Kim...we...we kissed, this afternoon, in the parking lot."

"Wow...okay?"

"But it wasn't just a kiss...it was something more, it was like, she needed me, or something. I'm not sure, but suddenly, she breaks the kiss and drives off without saying a word. I don't know what to make of it."

"She was probably just in shock. Maybe she wasn't prepared for you to suddenly kiss her."

"But see, that's the thing. She kissed me, out of the blue! I didn't do anything but tell her I liked her."

"Oh...hmm...I'm not sure, Robbie...you should just talk to her."

There was a pause on the phone, and just as Lily was about to ask for him, he sighed.

"You're right. Thanks, Lily."

There was a click on the other end, and Lily bit her lip as she set the phone down. If Robbie had the courage to approach who he liked, than maybe she should have the courage to as well.
