Prologue

*********************************

Destroy all which is evil so that which is good may flourish.

The darkness called to her… but she resisted.  It called to her; told her to just end it all.  End all of the pain and suffering.  To silence the screaming souls.  To silence her own screaming soul.

She cocked the gun and held it up to a tear-stained face.  Thankfully, she heard the scampering of frightened feet racing from where she stood.

"Please don't kill me!" a wavering voice whimpered.  The faces of two beautiful, innocent children floated in her memory.  That innocence had been lost this night.  Gone forever.  Without thinking twice, her trigger finger squeezed.  The blood ran a deep crimson - almost black - in the pale light, but she was blind to it.  A life given for the innocence lost.  She knelt down, kissed her clutched hand and then softly laid a tiny gold charm on the man's forehead.   Standing, she took a final look at the fallen body and then turned and walked into the shadows.
