The Light in His Eyes
by Seiri
A/N: It just so happens that I'm posting two FLCL fics at the same time... both or which are kinda depressing... hm. Oh well. I'm working on a happier fic tho... but school's starting so, we'll see what happens.
Anyway, this is from Ninamori's POV, I guess you could say she has a crush on him in this... but their aren't any real pairings, although Haruko/Naota is implied.
I don't own FLCL, sadly. *sighs*

The light in his eyes doesn't shine anymore.
It's been three years since that Vespa Woman disappeared. We don't really know what happened. None of us have asked him about it. Ever since then he's been different though.
He hasn't smiled since.... come to think of it, I've never seen him smile. You can tell something's different though, something's wrong. His eyes used to shine brilliantly -at least sometimes, like when the Vespa Woman was mentioned, his housekeeper was brought up... what was her name again? Haru... Well, it's not important. ... It was just that his eyes would widen and light up a little bit, even if he didn't know it, whenever that woman was mentioned. His eyes were just so... happy? Well, whatever it was, it's gone now.
I used to wish that he would just grow up and stop trying to be so cool, it was so annoying. Now I wish that I could take it back... he just seems so... mature now. Beyond us. When I see him out of school all I ever see him do is sit by his window playing his guitar. No wait, it was her's... She carried it around everywhere, as far as I know.
At first it wasn't that bad, it didn't seem like anything happened... then a year passed, and he stopped hanging out with us as much as he used to. Slowly, he dropped out of the social loop in school... well, as much as he was in it in the first place. Then another year passed... I hardly saw him out of school, except at the part time job he decided to take with us. Now it's been three years, and he quit the job a few months ago.
I went to the bakery a few days ago, no one was really around, but he came down. He looked so... abandoned. I knew it wasn't my fault but -damn that woman! I wanted to let him know he still had friends, I wanted to make him feel needed again. To try and bring back that shine in his brilliant blue eyes.
All he did was nod at me dumbly when I said hi.
Why is he so unhappy? What did that woman do to him?! I was tempted to ask that TV looking robot that lives there, he looks like he knows more then he's letting on... but no. I couldn't. If Naota wants me to know what happened, he would let me know... wouldn't he?
Okay, maybe he wouldn't. But still... I want to find a way to help. If he would only let me help...
That light in his eyes doesn't shine anymore.
