Spoilers: Anything goes
Summary: Woo Hoo! My first Potter/Buffy crossover! Trelawney's prophecy is fulfilled in a most unexpected manner.
Disclaimer: Characters and concepts belong to their owners who I'm too lazy to list.
Hogwarts was under attack by Voldemort and his minions. They came in overwhelming force. The magical school's special protections had been turned against itself, preventing Aurors from arriving by magic to help the defenders. Most of the teachers were holding back the attackers, while those less inclined for combat attempted to get the students to safety.
But they missed three of them, three Seventh year students who had fought the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters before.
AND THE DARK LORD WILL MARK HIM AS HIS EQUAL
"Are you sure about this, Hermione?" Harry asked doubtfully. He thought that they should be out there fighting Voldemort. But if this spell could do what Hermione said it could.
"Yes, it'll work," Hermione said resolutely. She had gotten this spell last year from an American witch that had taught Defense Against the Dark Arts for a week while Professor Lupin had been indisposed. "It was very clear from Professor Rosenberg's notes that it worked for her."
"I don't recall her ever mentioning this spell," Ron said. "She let you look at her private notes?"
"Well, she didn't exactly let me."
BUT HE WILL HAVE POWER THE DARK LORD KNOWS NOT
It was a most unusual spell. No wands, but lots of chanting was involved. They sat in a circle in the Griffindor common room, the sounds of battle echoing in from the window. In the center of their circle, an Orb of Thesulah blazed brilliantly. At the climax of the chanting, Harry extended his hand over the orb.
"The Heart," he intoned.
"The Mind," Hermione added, placing her hand on top of his.
"The Spirit," Ron concluded, adding his hand to theirs.
AND EITHER MUST DIE AT THE HAND OF THE OTHER
Albus Dumbledore fell to the ground, his defenses all but shattered. His endurance had reached its limits. Voldemort loomed over him.
"And now Dumbledore, you will tell me." the Dark Lord began.
He was interrupted when half a dozen Death Eaters went flying over his head. They slammed into the ground beyond and were motionless. Before Voldemort could react, a bar of pure magic struck his shields and propelled him away from the fallen Dumbledore.
"Who." the Headmaster gasped as he struggled to see his savior.
"Relax, Professor," said the newcomer in a strange, echoing voice. Dumbledore recognized him right away and was shocked by who it was. Had he been wrong all these years? "We will handle this."
Without another word, the Hand aka Neville Longbottom strode past.
Author's Note: I originally intended to make Draco Malfoy the Hand, but since Neville was apparently the other prophecy boy, I went with him instead.
