Disclaimer: I don't own the Charmed people, but I think it would be cool if I did. Oh, and the song, "The Rose", is from the Divine Miss M. (Bette Midler for those that don't know)

The Rose

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves your soul to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need.
I say love, it is a flower,
and you its only seed.

Phoebe wiped a small tear from her eye as she finished reading Cole's letter for the fifth time. The small black ink was smeared in some places and it was getting harder and harder to read. She couldn't help but cry when she thought of him. It just seemed like yesterday that they were together, laughing and in love. But now he was gone. For good. He could never show his face around town again. Or anywhere for that matter. His fear now was that someone would find out he was still alive.

It's the heart afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It's the dream afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It's the one who won't be taken,
who cannot seem to give,
and the soul afraid of dyin'
that never learns to live.

That night, Phoebe made the hardest decision she had ever made. She couldn't kill him. Not after what they'd been through. Besides, he couldn't kill her either. Isn't that why he killed the Triad? Phoebe had finally found true love, but like everything else in her life, it was gone. What if "they" knew? They split Piper and Leo up, surely they'd kill Phoebe if they found out what she'd done. But for some reason, that thought was in the very back of her mind. She was more concerned about whether she would ever find Cole again.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been to long,
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snow
lies the seed that with the sun's love
in the spring becomes the rose.

Phoebe read over the letter, now literally dripping of her tears. But this time, she smiled and closed the letter up. She glanced up at her sister's voices. They were worried about her. "I'm fine," she yelled back to the kitchen, where they were. "I'm just going to go put some things away." She rose from her seat in the den, and started up the stairs to her
bedroom. Everything happens for a reason right? Maybe she'd find someone else to share her love with. But either way, she'd never forget Cole. As she reached her bedroom, she hugged the letter once more, before dropping it in her nightstand. She wiped away a final tear and mouthed, "I love you," in the air.
