PREFACE
This is the fourth in a series of stories inspired by the "Scooby-Doo" live-action film. As much as I enjoyed the movie, (I saw it seven times in the theater and countless times on video), from a writer's point of view, it didn't pass muster. There were just too many unresolved loose ends, both in terms of plot and characterization; but it was these loose ends that provided the impetus for this series of fan fics.
Particularly odd was why Fred and Daphne acted so coldly towards each other, while Fred and Velma radiated a chemistry that was never present in the original cartoon. Take for instance, the initial reunion scene at the airport; Fred and Velma seem to harbor no rancor towards each other, but Daphne refuses to speak to either of them. From a plot point-of-view, this aspect of the story is inconsistent, after all, wasn't Velma angry with Fred for his continuously upstaging her?
Although the deleted scenes featured on the DVD and VHS versions offer some insight on this question, they do not provide a definitive answer to it. Other than what is shown in the ultimately deleted flashback scenes, what exactly went on during the two-year hiatus of Mystery Inc. is as mysterious to the viewer as the strange demons haunting Spooky Island. This inconsistency and lack of answers led me to ponder the question what exactly happened between Fred and Velma to dispel the initial ill will between them, which is what you will find when you read this story.
