Remember me, will you?
She took a deep breath and approached him. He's sleeping peacefully in the living room couch. Running a hand on his hair, a bittersweet smile appeared on her usual cold façade. "Remember me, will you?"

A/N: Errors ahead. English is not my first language. I know I kind of announced that I' am not going to published new story but I couldn't help but write this one. Errors are there, so sorry about that. I' am not in the medical profession, far from it even so bear with the errors. I'll make it up to you some other time. Haha Flashbacks in Italics and they were not in chronological order to match the story concept.
So, without further ado, lets get into it.
…
"What happened?"
His question echoed throughout the confines of his hospital room. The smell of disinfectant lingered through his nose but he didn't mind- as long as he knew why he was there in the first place. He hate hospitals. He appreciates it though- the medical workers who constantly risked their lives in order to save one's. It was something to appreciate but just the thought of being there reminds him of all the murders, homicides accidents, suicides and other cases he had solved- not to mention death surrounded him. He attracts death himself, so being in a hospital seems obnoxious.
"What happened?" Kudo Shinichi asked again, looking straight to Hakase and Ran- whose standing a few feet away from where he is while trying to sit up from his lying position. He hissed as he felt the pain in the back of his head. "Did they caught them?"
"Yes Shin"
He turned towards the voice. She's currently sitting in an arm chair near him. He didn't even notice she's there when he woke up.
"The police caught them"
Her voice echoed throughout the room again, leaving him speechless. She narrowed her eyes as she saw his puzzled look. She reached out for his hand but he awkwardly moved it right before she could even touch it.
"Shin?"
He turned towards Hakase then Ran, his eyes lingered on Ran's for a while before looking at her again. He studied her. She was about the same age as them, strawberry blonde hair and cerulean eyes. He awkwardly smiled at her then asked the question he'd been trying to ask since he first noticed her.
"Excuse me miss but who are you?"
"I-" Shiho abruptly stood up and distance herself to him. She was beyond shocked as he constantly asked her that question.
"I'll go get the doctor" she heard Mouri Ran's voice while Hakase stood there, clearly taken aback from the detective's inquiry.
"Ran…"
They all looked at Kudo Shinichi, waiting for what he's about to say.
"I' m glad I followed them alone. I'm glad you're ok"
Ran looked at Shiho then back at Shinichi, who's blushed deepened as all of their eyes were fixed on him. Taking a deep breath, Ran walked over to him- stopping just a few inches away from his bed.
"I wasn't with you when it happened two days ago Shinichi"
He narrowed his eyes at her. He chuckled a bit at Ran's words earning a puzzled look from his visitors. "Ran. We went to tropical land last night. I even stumbled on a roller coaster case which admit it, creeps you out. I followed this man in black suit and saw their transaction. That's when someone hit me in the back of my head"
"Shinichi, that was 8 years ago"
…
"His vitals are ok but we need to run a couple of tests for him. The blow he received is quite strong so I' am afraid I can categorized this as amnesia due to his head trauma since he couldn't remember some parts of his life prior to the accident. For what it's worth, he thinks he's still 17 years old."
"When will…" Shiho trailed off, her voice quivered a bit as she tried her best not to cry.
The doctor knew though. He could understand her. "No one knows Miss. Cases like this are rare. So rare that we couldn't predict when or where but it will only depends on him, on the ability of his brain to cope up with the lost memories. It will take time as the memories usually comes back gradually. Just believe in him for the time being"
Hakase pulled Shiho in a tight hugged as soon as the doctor excused himself. She remained unfazed but for someone who knew her well enough, you could clearly see through her.
"It's going to be ok" he re-assured her, reluctantly pulling away. She nodded her head in response though she remained quiet- unable to process everything.
…
Shinichi looked at the woman who came in- she 's standing near the window, looking outside the quiet night of Japan, her back facing him. Ran and Hakase went back to their respective homes for a while, leaving him alone with this woman he barely knew.
"Ano, you forgot to answer me a while ago- who are you Miss?"
His voice caught her attention but she didn't move from her spot. Taking a deep breath she says, "I' am a friend"
"I – Hakase told me about my amnesia, maybe that's why I don't remember you. I- uhm"
He awkwardly scratched his right arm, unsure whether or not to continue. To be completely honest, he wanted to know her because just by seeing her- it feels like she 's a major part of him. Does it even make sense?
"Could you tell me about yourself? Name? Age? How I met you?"
She turned towards him, finally facing him- trying her best not to cry.
"Tell me what you remember so that I could fill in the blank spots"
He smiled at her. That smile he usually wear when he's with her and in that moment she thought maybe, just maybe – he knew her somehow but all her hopes went down the drain when he spoke. His voice sounded dreamy.
"Well, I went to Ran last night to tropical land. It was my birthday present for her. We stumbled upon a case in the roller coaster ride and I happened to follow a guy in a suit and sunglasses after. They were doing some illegal transaction and I didn't notice one of them behind me. See?" He pointed his right index finger towards the back of his head. "I think the blow was pretty nasty that all I can remember is that memory from 8 years ago. I mean- seriously that was 8 years ago?"
She leaned against the window, arms crossed as she looked at him straight in the eyes. He patiently waits for her to say something but she was just gazing at him, longingly and it made him look away. Unable to meet her eyes.
"I' am Miyano Shiho. A friend. Your-" she paused for a while. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes. "partner" he heard her say. He turned towards her again, trying his best to meet her eyes. "We saw each other in America. We worked on a case. That case you saw on that night you remember. That was 8 years ago. We came back here in Japan after 3 years"
"Is that it?" he asked her, curiosity written all over his face. He can feel it- he wasn't sure though but it feels like something's missing. He couldn't pinpoint what but he knew there is.
She nodded her head. She lied to him but it's for the best. Saying they met and shrunk because of a drug she made, sounds absurd. "That's it Kudo- kun. No more. No less"
"What happened then? 2 days ago? This?" He gestured his hands around the room, desperate to know what really happened that night.
"You stumbled upon a case. Human trafficking. You followed someone suspicious looking in the movie theater. You didn't noticed one of them behind you. I was with you that time not Ran- san"
"Oh. Why was I with you?"
She could've told him but she doesn't have the courage to. She wanted him to remember her but somewhere on the back of her mind, she doesn't want to. Because deep down- she knew he doesn't deserved all the miseries she caused him.
"Shiho, why are you here?" he shouted at her. They were currently following the man she found suspicious.
She turned towards him. "We need to go back in the theater. This is dangerous."
"You heard them talking about this transaction on girls- minors. I'll prove it and help them but please don't come. I cant let you in danger. Call Inspector Sato."
He smiled at her and with that she left. Leaving him alone in that dark alley. If she hadn't heard the suspects talking in the bathroom when they went in the movie theater and when she hadn't left him, he wouldn't be in this situation.
…
He left the hospital a week after. His tests results came back and he's fine- for now. His parents came as soon as the news got to them but upon Shinichi's request, they went back to America leaving the detective at Hakase's care.
"Here. I'll help you" Shiho offered to clean his wound and change the dressing. She gently held his head, and for some unknown reason it made Shinichi closed his eyes. The feeling was familiar.
"Are we-" he started but he couldn't form the right words. He hissed as she finished cleaning him up, his head injury still hurts from time to time- not to mention his headaches that usually comes with it.
He faced her. Eyes boring holes in her head. He was serious and the blushed on his face were evident enough.
"Are we dating?"
She was caught off guard by that. She opened her mouth to respond but no words came out.
"Me and Ran, that is"
His voice woke her up from her reverie. Clearing her throat and gaining her composure back, she gently smiled at him.
"I don't know Kudo- kun"
She stood up and left hurriedly, leaving him alone in the living room. He followed her, pulling her right arm gently to stop her. As his hand came into contact with her, a surge of emotion came into him. It was amazing. It was like touching her means everything to him.
"I- uhm. I want you to stay. Talk to me. I want to know more about you. About everything"
Silence followed. The only sound they can hear is Hakase's radio.
"Tell me more about Ran and I for the past few years"
"I have to go"
She left just like that. Living him alone. He narrowed his eyes at his friend's reaction. He doesn't know why but he was sure her voice sounded sad and on the verge of crying.
…
He decided to visit his house the next morning. He'd been living with Hakase and Miyano Shiho for now since he needs help most of the time since his headaches where frequently happening lately. He thought that maybe, seeing his own house will let him remember everything.
It was still the same although his bathroom showed feminine products- like someone had been staying with him. They are luxurious type of products- the one you can see in an international shops.
"Is Ran staying here?"
His voice woke Shiho on her stupor. She'd been staring at a distance, thinking about all this crazy stuff that they've been through lately that she didn't even notice that they were both in his bathroom.
"No. Not really"
"Then why do I have this?"
She ignored his inquiries, eyes focused on the luxurious products adorning the bathroom.
"I smelled this before" he said, referring to a branded perfume. It looks expensive. "It's familiar"
Shiho swallowed the lump on her throat as she focused her attention on the said perfume. She heard him chuckle after a while though, smiling gently.
"Mom's. How could I forget. Let's go Miyano- san"
He left and turned towards the next room he wanted to see. He's already out of earshot when she gently picked up the perfume, smelling it.
"Here. Happy birthday" he smiled sheepishly as he handed his gift to her. She, on the other hand, remain unfazed but deep inside- her heart flutters as she opened the gift in front of her.
"Oh my God" she said as she saw two perfume of the brand she had been wanting to have for months. It was a limited edition scent- made only for this summer. "This is expensive. How…"
"Leave the other one here. You could use it whenever you're here with me. Happy birthday."
…
"Where are you going?"
She turned towards the voice only to see him with an apron on. Raising an eyebrow at him, she gestured for his attire earning a sheepishly look from the detective.
"I just finished baking an apple pie. Thought I could make one. Come on. Where are you going anyway?"
"Work"
She followed him, the scent of a newly baked pie can be smelled all over the kitchen. She smiled as he saw him prepare the table for two, serving both her and himself a slice of it.
She sat in front of him and her eyes widened in shock as she handed her a cup of coffee.
"I made coffee as well. Thought you liked black"
"I do. Thank you"
"I never saw you going to work for the past weeks"
"I was on leave"
She took a bite from it and he eagerly asked her how was it. As she told him her verdict, he smiled happily as he continuously told her- he likes apple pies but what caught her off guard is his next words.
"I'll be giving this to Ran. I wanted to surprise her. What do you think?"
She managed to utter a simple 'I see' before swallowing the lump on her throat as she heard him hummed happily.
"I made you an apple pie. Try it"
He nervously handed her a slice of the said pie, eyes looking at her so intense she had to look away. She took a bite and smiled as she never expected for him to make something this edible and not to mention delicious.
"It was great. Wow. I-"
He cut her off, eyes glistened with pride as he looked at her straight in the eyes.
"I can make you this everyday, if you want me to. I can do everything just to see you this happy"
She chuckled as his words. He really knew how to please a girl. Rolling her eyes in fake annoyance, she stood up and left him. He ran towards her though, hugging her from behind.
"Seriously, I want to see you happy everyday without fail. Sounds corny huh?"
…
It's been two months since he lost his memories. Still, no progress. They went to the doctor almost every week but the only thing they could managed to stop once in a while is his headaches.
"You still don't remember everything else after the Roller coaster case?" she asked him one Saturday night. He's leaning against the railings at Hakase's house, looking straight at the horizon. She saw him shook his head as a response.
"I see"
Silence followed. No one dared to talk. She made herself comfortable, leaning against the railings as well. After a couple of minutes in comfortable silence, he turned towards her and decided to break the silence they both created.
"I decided to make the most out of this amnesia. Enjoy myself. Well, I do missed 8 years of my life but to be completely honest- making new memories with those I care about is much more important than what I forgotten. So, I guess I don't care if I'll have it back or not. That's why I decided to enjoy this-" he said it with a voice so soft, Shiho couldn't help but smile.
"With Ran" he added. She turned towards him, the smile once adorning her face long gone. She couldn't stop the tears any longer, so she let it out. She's crying right in front of him. His eyes widened in shock and he looks like he was about to faint- not knowing how to comfort her. The sight is funny if the circumstances were a bit different.
He tried to wipe the tears away from her eyes but she stopped him. Doing it herself. As she wiped the tears with his left hand, something caught his attention.
"You're getting-" he started but before he finished it, she ran towards her room- leaving him alone once more.
…
She saw him talked to Ran and spend time with her almost everyday. She saw him smile at Ran and forgot about everything else around them. She saw the old Kudo Shinichi in him- the one guy who would give everything for his first love and boy, that hurts.
"Why don't you tell him?" Hakase asked her on the kitchen counter one day. They were currently preparing for lunch for the 4 of them while Ran and Shinichi watched a movie together on the living room. The old man's eyes were directed to the two childhood friends in front of the television. "It's been more than 2 months since he came back from the hospital. Why don't you tell him. He deserves to know"
She looked at the couple and smiled to herself. Turning towards her father figure with that caring look she says, "Let him be happy Hakase. Maybe this" she gestured her hands around, making her point. "is what he deserves the most. Making new memories and forgetting the old ones. It was miserable anyway"
"You're making a mistake Shiho- kun because he deserves to know that this" Hakase pulled her left hand towards him, his fingers touched the ring adorning her left ring finger- eyes looking intently at the Kudo family heirloom he gave her 2 years ago. It was a diamond ring- once an engagement ring of Kudo Yusako' s mother. "exists. That this is something of importance. That maybe, this ring he gave you can help him with his lost memories. The memories you both shared with. That a few months from now you'll be getting married. He deserves to know"
"Marry me Shiho?" he asked her and got down on one knee right in front of the first place he met her- Teitan Elementary School. He'd been showing her around those places that hold a special place in his heart when suddenly he caught her off guard with his sudden question. "I want to spend the rest of my life with you. You had me at my worst and guided me through it. Marry me. Be with me. Will you?"
"Yes Shin. I will"
…
"Shiho- chan" Ran called her attention after they ate lunch. Hakase and Shinichi went out for a walk, leaving the girls alone. "Can we talk?"
Shiho nodded her head and gestured for Ran to sit next to her on the couch. They were silent for a while, eyes fixed on the tiled floor of Hakase's living room. Ran decided to break the awkward silence, clenching her fists in the process.
"He said he loves me"
Shiho looked at her with cold eyes but she ignored it. She swallowed the lump on her throat and faced her. She's afraid because she knew this girl before her is dangerous- twice as dangerous as Inspector Sato if she wanted to.
"He confessed to me a while back. He said he couldn't remember everything but he knew he likes me. Shiho- chan, you should understand…"
Shiho remained impassive and that scared Ran even more. She stood up but before she take a step, her companion's voice echoed throughout the room.
"Did you said you love him too?"
Ran smiled sadly at her. The two of them rarely talked to each other about Shinichi in particular because of their history but here they are. "I've always been in love with him. Whether or not he fell out of love. It will never change Shiho- chan. Please understand. You're just a friend to him now"
"I love you" he said to her, right after the fight with the Black Organization. She narrowed her eyes and decided to tease him when his voice echoed throughout the abandoned warehouse. Smoke, dust and the stench of blood lingered through the air but he didn't mind, as long as he said what's on his mind.
"I love you all this time Shiho"
"What about Ran- san?" she asked him barely audible. She's trying her best not to cry but his confession and the Organization's defeat got the better of her, so she let it all out.
"I love you. She's just a friend to me. Someone special but you are the one. Let me show it to you"
He pulled her towards him, kissing her- showing how much she means to him.
"I love you too Shinichi. Since day one" she finally confessed after they broke the kiss.
…
"You still don't remember anything?" Hakase asked him as they sat in the park bench. Looking straight ahead, he took a deep breath and shook his head.
"So what do you think about all this then?"
Shinichi looked at his companion and raised an eyebrow at him. He knew though that something's bothering the old man since he rarely asked for him for a walk. He hate physical activities anyway.
"What do you mean Hakase?"
Hakase just smiled at him, not saying a word. They remained like that for a while, looking at the children playing around them.
"At first, I thought that whether I remember those memories or not, I can always make new ones. That I'll be happy but I felt like I' am still missing a big part of my life. I tried confessing to Ran, saying I love her but as she said she loves me too- I felt empty. I thought that if I said those words, the emptiness I felt will gradually fade but it doesn't. I-" he stopped mid- sentence, unable to process everything he had said. Hakase patiently waited for him, looking at him with that kind and worried eyes.
"I can feel it that whatever memories I've forgotten defines who really I am. Hakase, I need to know. In those 8 years, what happened to me in there?"
Hakase patted his shoulder, a sad smile slowly appears in his chubby face. "I' am not in the position to say it to you but I knew that those 8 years you've forgotten were the best years of your life. That in those years, that emptiness you felt were filled in by someone special"
"Was it Ran?"
Hakase stood up, the detective followed suit.
"You need to figure it out. Follow your heart Shinichi. The memories fade away but the feelings never did"
…
Shinichi went towards his house that night. Hakase's words repeated itself in his mind like a mantra. He tried recalling everything but not a single memory flashed before his closed eyes. To his exhaustion, he fell asleep in his living room couch.
Shiho decided to check up on him, afraid that this headaches will come back. As she opened his front door, she went straight to his bedroom only to find it empty. She the went to his living room, only to find him there. She took a deep breath and approached him. He's sleeping peacefully in the living room couch. Running a hand on his hair, a bittersweet smile appeared on her usual cold façade. "Remember me, will you?"
She grabbed a blanket and covered him with it. He mumbled something but she couldn't understand it. Seeing he's comfortable enough, she kissed the crown of his head and lingered on it for a bit.
"Remember me, will you Shinichi?. I'll be waiting"
…
As soon as the front door closes, Shinichi stirred on his sleep. Mumbling a name over and over again.
"Shiho"
…
A/N: there. Haha. I decided to torture our dearest Shiho this time and give Shinichi a rest. Well, sort of.
I already made an amnesia story but in ther it was Haibara, so I thought 'Hmm. Shinichi this time? Why not.' Haha
Thoughts?
