Hi everyone! This is my second Playful Kiss fanfiction – I just love everything about that show and all the characters! An idea popped into my head as I was watching a Kim Hyun Joong video – the idea was, what would Seung Jo do if he thought Ha Ni was going to leave him, and that's how this fluffy one-shot came about. It's not to cannon, but then again, where's the fun in sticking to cannon in fanfiction, right?

I do not own Playful Kiss or anything related to it.

Dr. Baek Seung Jo stood at the nurse's station, holding the note from his wife of three years, Baek Ha Ni, and struggled to keep his cool, unruffled mask in place while his body reacted, pushing up his heart rate, sweat breaking out on his forehead and his palms. He knew he had to do something fast, otherwise he would be having a full-on, shirt ripping, hair-pulling, screaming, defcon one kind of a meltdown in front of all the nurses, doctors and patients in the packed emergency room in about 30 seconds.

Shoving the note into his pocket, he practically ran down the hall, not acknowledging the quizzical glances from the hospital staff he passed along the way. Seung Jo made it to his office and quickly locked the door before throwing himself onto his chair and letting go the pent up breath he didn't even realize he'd been holding in. His loud exhale actually sounded more like a cross between a scream of rage and a howl of pain.

How could she do this to me? He screamed in his head. Doesn't she love me anymore? And of all people, why did it have to be him!

Seung Jo's hand shook slightly as he reached into his white doctor's coat pocket to pull out the note she had left for him, reading it over again, trying to make sense of the words that he never thought would come from her.

"I'm sorry Seung Jo, Bong Joon Gu needs me."

These words stood out to his eyes, blinding him to whatever pathetic excuses or explanations she offered. His wife, Ha Ni was leaving the Great Baek Seung Jo, genius with an IQ of 200, unparalleled super doctor, and amazingly cool husband, to be with that rooster who chased after her in high school, Bong Joon Gu.

How could she do this to him? After everything they went through to finally be together, all the effort he put into their relationship, all the love and affection he showered her with on a daily basis – how could she up and leave him to be with that half-brained excuse for a short order cook!

Seung Jo could feel the blood pumping through his brain, boiling hot and angry. It made his normally pale face flush a deep red colour and made his features appear sharper than they actually were and the glare coming from his eyes would have been enough to scare the most stoic person to run and hide in fear. His breathing was strained and his hands seemed to be clenching into fists without him being aware of it.

This was ridiculous. No body made a fool of him, especially not his wife and that dim-witted, classless goof bag who barely made it through high school and then worked in the campus cafeteria at the university where Seung Jo and Ha Ni attended. No way! He would chase them down and make them pay for humiliating him. The evil look on Seung Jo's face would have made him unrecognizable to his family and colleagues. The fire in his eyes and malice written in every line and angle of his face – he was truly scary as he sat at his desk and contemplated all the different ways he could do away with Bong Joon Gu and make it look like natural causes – he was a brilliant doctor after all. If that bastard had the nerve to lay even one finger on his wife, Seung Jo would start by cutting off his hands and then anything else that he could have touched Ha Ni with.

And what would he do to his beloved wife? A wicked smile slowly curled up the edges of his lips and he rubbed his hands together in anticipation as he imagined how he would make her scream as he punished her for even daring to think about going to another man.

He still had another two hours before his shift ended so he would have push his rage way down inside so he could concentrate on his job. When his shift was done, he knew exactly where to find his errant wife and so help him, he was going drag her back home, even if she was kicking and screaming the entire way.

Looking at him, no one would have thought that the impassive face of Dr. Baek Seung Jo was hiding a raging monster.

Seung Jo used only half of his ridiculously nimble brain to get through the rest of his shift, taking care of his patients and speaking with colleagues; he used the other half to think and remember.

He recalled the first time Bong Joon Gu had appeared on his radar. It happened many years ago in high school when Seung Jo had made fun of Ha Ni's attempt at a love letter to him and Bong Joon Gu stepped in to defend her and tried to pick a fight with him. Seung Jo thought no more about him after that, but somehow, over the years, the closer Seung Jo got to Ha Ni, the more that mongrel with the stupid hair showed up in his periphery, being annoying and trying to steal her attention away from Seung Jo, even going so far as to snatch Ha Ni for a piggy back ride around the school when Seung Jo was supposed to do it. He huffed at the memory of the look on Ha Ni's face when she realized she was on Bong Joon Gu's back – he saw shock and embarrassment, but he also remembered seeing a flash of disappointment as their eyes met briefly over Joon Gu's pointy hair. He knew she wanted it to be him, not Joon Gu, who carried her, after all, at that time she had already been in love with him for at least four years. Her heart was his to mess with and they both knew it.

This thought made him pause and really think about it. Was her heart really his? Sure they were married and she belonged to him, but was she still happy basking in his glow, was he giving her enough love and affection, he asked himself and then thought back to the many instances where he, Baek Seung Jo, treated his wife with cold indifference, ignoring her when they happened to pass each other in the corridors of the hospital. This gave rise to much gossiping and rumours of a loveless marriage between the two and seemed to encourage some of the bolder nurses to try to attract his attention, sometimes right under Ha Ni's nose. Seung Jo thought about how he would simply brush it aside, not even considering how it might affect Ha Ni. He thought about the times he came home tired after a long shift and just went to bed without even saying a word to her. Sometimes, when their schedules were not in sync, he might actually go three or four days without saying more than two words to his wife.

Thinking about it now, Seung Jo dropped his head into his hands and let out a low moan of despair. No fucking wonder she was leaving him – he was a terrible husband, cold and selfish, never thinking about her feelings or her needs. Never telling her how much he loved her, how much he needed her in his life. Regret left a bitter taste in his mouth as he thought about what he should have done, how he should have treated her from the beginning. After he got over his stupid issues with her grades, Seung Jo finally realized that he was really deeply in love with Oh Ha Ni and she was the only woman he wanted to be with for the rest of his life, but for some reason, he couldn't remember ever having told her that.

Even after he announced to his family and her dad that he wanted to marry Ha Ni he screwed up. Seung Jo made it plain that he did not like his mother rushing the wedding and made a big deal about not registering the marriage right away, but in reality he was secretly thrilled that they didn't have to wait long before they could be together, in every way.

And honestly, sex with Ha Ni was amazing. She was his every fantasy come to life and he worshipped every inch of her body. Each time they were together, Seung Jo carefully stored up in his memory all the different sounds she made that drove him wild in bed and the looks in her eyes and on her face when he took her in his arms at night and played with her. Just thinking about her now was causing his body to react and harden.

No, there was no question that he loved his wife, but even as that thought settled in his brain, a tiny voice asked but does she know that? Have you said it to her lately? Have you shown it to her? And again the answer left him feeling sad and unworthy of her love.

Was it too late now?

His shift finished and Seung Jo was in his car heading to the noodle shop where he just knew he would find them. Along the way his thoughts shifted from Ha Ni to Bong Joon Gu. He remembered how Joon Gu was always following Ha Ni around, trying to get close to her in whatever way possible, and how he always made Seung Jo feel angry whenever he spoke of Ha Ni and how the sleeping monster known as jealousy awoke in Seung Jo's heart the day of their high school graduation, when Joon Gu serenaded Ha Ni, even taking her hand in his while he sang some ridiculous song about navigation. Seung Jo was beyond furious when he grabbed Ha Ni by the hand and dragged her out of the karaoke bar then pinned her to the wall and kissed her for the first time.

That was the day Seung Jo considered for the first time that what he felt for Ha Ni might be something more than just disdain or aggravation.

The very next day Seung Jo put as much emotional distance as he could between himself and Ha Ni, even starting to date Yoon He Ra just to prove to himself that he really wasn't affected by Ha Ni. Who knows, it might have worked if not for Bong Joon Gu who suddenly popped up in the university's cafeteria, offering Ha Ni his best work as a chef, while slapping skimpy, lifeless portions on Seung Jo's tray, following Ha Ni around, watching her play tennis, walking home with her from school before heading off to work at her dad's noodle shop. Fawning over her all the time.

He didn't realize how much it disturbed him to see Ha Ni with Joon Gu until that night when he and He Ra out on a date ran into Joon Gu and Ha Ni. He saw Joon Gu's arm around Ha Ni and she was laughing and smiling up into his eyes like she used to with Seung Jo. For the second time in his life he felt the angry bite of jealousy and told Ha Ni that she and Joon Gu suited each other perfectly, knowing it would hurt her because Ha Ni knew what a low opinion Seung Jo had of Joon Gu.

A few days later Seung Jo heard Ha Ni's friends talking about Joon Gu asking Ha Ni to marry him and how she was going to give him her answer that night. It put Seung Jo into an emotional tailspin. He felt sick and angry at the same time, screaming inside his head that Ha Ni loved him and only him, and she couldn't marry that rooster. The images of the two of them together laughing, touching, kissing and doing other things nearly drove him mad and that night after cornering Ha Ni on the street, in the rain he kissed her again. When they got home, he declared to their families that they would be getting married.

He knew that he loved Ha Ni and the sudden proposal was not because he was afraid that she would say yes to the rooster, but rather because he finally realized that he might really lose her if he didn't step up. Even so he couldn't help feeling a bit gleeful at the thought of having beaten Joon Gu and getting the girl, but that joy lasted only until he saw the bruises Joon Gu had left on Ha Ni's arms. He almost killed Joon Gu that night, or would have tried if Ha Ni hadn't begged him not to and finally just pushed him down on the bed and sat on top of him to keep him from going after the bastard that hurt his beautiful Ha Ni.

Thinking about that now, along with the words on the note burning hole in his pocket, the boiling rage he felt then, he could feel again now. That bastard had better not lay a finger on his wife or this time no one would stop him from ripping his limbs from his body and beating him to death with his own stump of his leg.

When he got out of his car, Seung Jo spotted his wife putting boxes into her dad's truck and Joon Gu was standing next to her father by the door of the noodle shop.

"Yah! Baek Ha Ni! You've got nerve coming here tonight! Did you think I would let it go? Do you really not know me well enough yet to know I would never let you go?" He yelled at her, making her cringe and blush at the same time.

"Yah! Baek Seung Jo! What are you doing?"

Ignoring Ha Ni, he strode directly over to Joon Gu with a murderous glare and spat out "Keep your hands off her rooster. She's my wife!" he yelled at the stunned man and Ha Ni's dad. Before anyone could even gather their thoughts to make a reply, Seung Jo swung around, bent down catching Ha Ni by her thighs and slinging her over his shoulder like a sack of onions.

With fire burning in his eyes, he turned to the men still standing in stunned silence by the door of the noodle shop, 'MINE!" he spat before turning back to his car, with his equally stunned wife over his shoulder. He practically threw her into the car without another word climbed into the driver's seat and took off for home. Joon Gu and Ha Ni's dad looked at each other with profound confusion.

"What on earth was that all about?" Ha Ni wanted to know as they sat in the car in front of the home they shared with Seung Jo's parents little brother and her dad.

"You went to him! You snuck out and left me alone and went to him – because he said he needed you!" He spat out viciously. "Did you really think you could get away with that?"

"Baek Seung Jo! You are being completed unreasonable here. I was going to wait for your shift to finish so you could come with me, but I finished early and I got a text from Joon Gu that the contractors would be coming in earlier than expected so he need us to clear out our old apartment as soon as possible. And it's not like I snuck out – I did leave you a note telling you exactly where I was going and why. As it is dad and I got all of our stuff packed up and in the truck tonight so we don't have to go back to the noodle shop again before the upstairs renovation starts. Besides, if I had waited and we went together you and Joon Gu would have gotten into a drinking match, like you two do every time we all get together, and you would have been useless cleaning out the apartment with me."

"That's not the point! You promised and then you went without me." Seung Jo's pout made Ha Ni smile. "You are never to go anywhere near Joon Gu if I'm not with you. That was our deal." There was just a little bit of a whine in his voice.

"I can't believe you're being like this. It's actually really adorable."

"Adorable!" Seung Jo's eyes nearly popped out of his head at this description of himself. "I'm absolutely furious with you right now Baek Ha Ni. You left me at work to go to another man. This is totally a punishable offence." His eyes glittered dangerously as he glared at her from underneath the thick fringe of brown hair that hung down over his eyes.

"Uh oh" was all she managed to get out before he lunged at her but he forgot about his seat belt and was distracted long enough to allow Ha Ni a head start. She jumped out of the car slamming the door shut behind her and raced for the house. She almost made it inside before Seung Jo came stalking up behind her and snaked his arms around her waist pulling her back, making her fall against his chest. He nestled his face into the crook of her neck and whispered in her ear, "Gotcha!"

With a wicked grin on his face, Seung Jo spun the giggling Ha Ni around and once again hoisted her over his shoulder and sprinted all the way up the stairs and into their bedroom where he unceremoniously dumped his laughing wife onto the bed.

"That's right Ha Ni, keep laughing" he said as he crawled up over her, his heart beating faster and his body heating up in response to the delicious feeling of his wife's body shaking beneath him, "keep it up and in a little while I'll make you scream." He said as his mouth dipped down until he was a whisper away from her lips.

Her laughter died and the look of amusement on her face changed quickly into a heated look of desire.

"Is that right?" she murmured gazing up into his lust filled eyes. "Well show me what ya got big boy!" Then his lips covered hers and there were no more words for a very long time.

End.
