This is my take on the battle of the seven Potters. It does not exactly follow the book or movie.

Severus Snape hovered behind the house on Privet Drive, hiding behind tall hedges, the sun still tinting the sky a ruddy color as it slowly disappeared behind houses in the distance. He waited patiently, knowing that Mundungus Fletcher's "plan" to use six decoy Harrys had been accepted by the rest of the order, and he wanted to make sure all the Harrys were appropriately indistinguishable. He pulled back the sleeve on his robe to glare at his watch, then glanced back at the house.

More time passed, and the sun disappeared completely, the sky dark and gloomy. Severus narrowed his eyes as he counted the Harrys that exited the house. The Polyjuice Potion he had specially brewed himself for this event was working quite beautifully. Of course, no one knew he had brewed it. The stock had come from Albus Dumbledore himself. He smirked at the matching outfits and luggage each Harry carried with him, and, as quickly as he had come, he sneaked away.

When he was a good several few houses away, Severus jumped on his broom and took off. He hated brooms, but he had to make sure his plan worked accordingly, and he would do whatever that took to keep his ranks among the other Death Eaters and to keep the Potter brat safe. With precision and purpose, Severus flew over to where the other Death Eaters were waiting for the signal, and he landed next to Lucius.

"Where have you been?" Lucius snapped at him. "You're late—again."

"Scouting the perimeter as one should do before an ambush does not make me late, merely thorough." Severus pulled out his mask from an inner robe pocket and dusted it off. "We are closer than I originally believed to the wards that have protected Potter all these years. I could feel its weakening vibrations a few blocks away. I've put us in the right place. And what have you been doing to ensure victory tonight?"

Lucius rolled his eyes and donned his mask, as did Severus. Severus glanced in the direction of Privet Drive. No one knew exactly where in Surrey the extraction would be happening (save for himself), but Severus had pinpointed a good five-mile radius for the Dark Lord for added loyalty points. The aurors should be leaving with the Harrys shortly, so any minute now, the Dark lord would signal to them to give chase.

Three minutes passed when a flash of red lit up the sky.

"There it is!" someone shouted, jumping on his broom.

"Let's go! Let's go!"

Severus mounted and flew with the crowd, following them to where the Order Members were flying away from number four Privet Drive. They all flew up into the clouds, flying above and over their targets in order to drop down on them. With wands charging and curses and stunners on the tips of everyone's lips, they dropped into the clouds. Severus was not surprised when all the other Death Eaters pulled up on their brooms in surprise, blinking at the seven potters.

"It's a trick!" Severus shouted. "Look for the real Potter and inform the Dark Lord when you've got him!"

Severus fired a stunning spell toward a random auror escorting a Harry, the others following his lead. While chaos quickly ensued and the Harrys began scattering, Severus paused and flew higher above the battle, trying to see if he could identify the real Potter. Anything that gave the true Potter away, he would have to fix, as always. He noticed that while the Death Eaters outnumbered the Order Members, the decoy plan was working beautifully, and everyone was reluctant to curse any of the Harrys, but they relentlessly attacked the Aurors and members.

While scanning for Harry, Severus spotted a Death Eater aiming his wand at the back of an unsuspecting Remus Lupin, who had his attention on three Death Eaters in front of him while the Harry with him was firing stunners at two other Death Eaters.

Thinking perhaps a little too quickly, Severus lifted his wand.

"Sectumsempra," he muttered, flicking the curse at the wand arm of the death eater.

The curse was caught in the wind and Severus's eyes widened as it struck the Harry, who clutched his bleeding ear and groaned in pain, his hand slowly covering in blood. However, the strike caught Remus's attention, and he adjusted his broom enough that the green curse from the death eater behind him flew harmlessly past, missing by an inch. Remus Lupin stunned the death eater and flew off as fast as he could.

Though guilt felt like ice in his veins, Severus refocused his attention back on locating the real Harry. He had first thought that they would have put the real Harry with Mad-Eye Moody, but Severus had witnessed the Dark Lord take off after the formidable auror.

Whoever had been that Harry was a coward. Harry had quickly disapparated away without so much as a shield or deflector, leaving Moody to take the brunt of the Dark Lord's killing curse.

Severus shook his head in disgust before eyeing Lucius chasing Arthur Weasley. Arthur could not seem to shake Lucius off his tail, and Severus charged after them. He caught up with Lucius, exchanged a nod, and they both dived for Arthur Weasley and Harry. Harry threw several stunners at them, and both Death Eaters dodged the spells.

Timing his attack by seconds, Severus deflected a stunning spell to a Death Eater pursuing Nymphadora Tonks, leaving her with just Bellatrix, before he deflected another stunning spell toward Lucius, who slumped over on his broom and spiraled downward. Severus backed off when Arthur fired a curse in his direction, deflecting it right back at him, and he dodged it and vanished into the clouds.

Severus flew in their general direction before spotting a Harry struggling with the flying motorbike, a Death Eater hot on his trail. Severus observed curiously as an owl appeared behind the Death Eater, claws ready for attack.

Potter! Severus's eyes widened and he flew as fast as he could to catch up to the motorbike. That owl would give Potter away to the Dark Lord. Foolish child! He should have kept that thing in a cage and had an Auror pick it up later.

The snowy owl lashed out at the Death Eater, clawing at the mask before flying around and slamming into the man's face. Severus stunned the Death Eater before he could fly back to inform the Dark Lord. The Death Eater crashed to the ground below.

Severus then leveled his wand on the snowy owl, who was flying at Harry's side now. He closed his eyes, knowing how much this would upset Potter, especially if he knew who exactly killed his owl. He will never know, his mind reminded him, and it was for Potter's protection. He opened his eyes. The owl had spotted him and shrieked, turning her claws out for him. What was her name? Hedwig? I'm sorry, Hedwig, Severus thought before firing the killing curse.

The curse struck the owl and she fell from the sky.

Severus halted. Potter's face of anguish was brutal, and the teen even looked back at Hedwig's killer. Severus raised his wand toward Potter, and the boy refocused on flying the motorbike away as Hagrid was indisposed.

Severus did not follow.

Instead, he spotted several Death Eaters surrounding Bill Weasley and Harry on a thestral. He flew to join the group as they seemed convinced that that Harry was the true one. Severus joined the flanks, blocking a section of the circle the thestral had bolted for, keeping the bucking bronco in the center. Bill tried to encourage the beast to charge and push through the Death Eaters, and the animal would charge but not jump or push through, too afraid of the wands aimed at it.

While Harry fired stunners and Bill focused on trying to plan an escape, Severus used his deflectors to discreetly strike out at other Death Eaters while making it seem like he was sending the spells right back at Harry. Other spells from Death Eaters missed as Bill moved the horse strategically to avoid the curses.

Finally, enough Death Eaters were down to escape, and the thestral flew off.

Severus took a head count of who he could see. They were down several Death Eaters, but some of the Harrys were nowhere to be seen, and he was sure those who weren't accounted for were not far behind those Harrys.

"Oy, look there!" a Death Eater shouted, pointing off in the distance.

Severus spun around on his broom in time to see Potter in the far distance cast "expelliarmus" on a Death Eater, blowing the wand out of his grasp.

Dammit, Potter, Severus thought irritably, sighing in defeat. Your chivalry knows no bounds.

"It's him!" the same Death Eater said. "Quickly, alert the Dark Lord!"

Another Death Eater flew off, and it was a matter of seconds before the Dark Lord rushed past Severus in pursuit of Potter on the motorbike.

Good Luck, Potter. Severus glanced around. There were no Harrys in his proximity to chase or protect, and with that, his work here was done. He turned the broom and flew away from the battle.
