I enjoy very much that for some reason google translate decided Rūfuhoppingu is an actual word in Japanese (I'm 99% certain that its not, lol)
Let it never be said that Izuku lived a boring life. That was probably about the furthest thing from the truth, and Izuku imagined that if he were to say that, he would probably be murdered by some previously average salary man because of just how offensive the thought was.
That said, Izuku was bored with his life. Being unable to escape to his identity as Jadeite for four months was his own personal hell, trapped in a boring office (but not really office so he should remember not to say that to any salarymen) job for hours of his day, with paperwork and dealing with other people like he was some sort of professional, and only the occasional excursion outside. Imagine what the articles would say if they thought he was dead just because no one had caught a picture of him—and he wasn't even allowed to update Jadeite's social media, so they might actually think he died! He was left chafing at the metaphorical restraints and fingers twitching toward the locked drawer in his office that he knew he wouldn't even struggle with to pick. It would just mean that Tsukauchi might lose faith and him and permanently ban him from leaping over rooftops in the dark.
But four months were up today, so of course he immediately busted the lock and grabbed his hoodie before Tsukauchi could even realize it was midnight.
Being able to escape into the night like this, cool air burning his lungs and stars lighting the rooftops around him was a type of freedom his job didn't give him. No matter what his coworkers and other people said about him being their hero, he knew he wasn't. He was still quirkless Deku, and like hell was he a hero. But Jadeite felt a lot like one, so he would take what he could get.
A few hours later, the night was still quiet, and Izuku took a break to sit down on a rooftop. He was pretty sure that this spot was due for an attack. He'd seen reports of a couple of muggings in the area, and if he was right (he doubted he was wrong) this spot was planned to be mugged, right… now.
On cue, a woman dressed to the nines in a clubbing dress and holding a bag no doubt filled with cash was shoved into the ally off of the main street. The burglar-a woman, probably with a sensory quirk, judging by the double ringed eyes and x pupils-maybe x-ray vision, if the self explanatory nature of quirks held true here. It would explain how all her targets had been well-off people with cash or jewels on hand. Easy enough to tell when you can see through someone's bag.
Izuku stood and popped his back, stretching his arms as he waited for a chance to jump in. He had to wait because it wouldn't be legal if he did it before the thief showed proof of trying to mug the lady. He'd had enough scoldings from Tsukauchi about it before-not that anything he was doing was particularly legal in the first place, it just wasn't that illegal. So it was fine, as far as pretty much everyone was concerned.
The criminal raised her hand to slap the victim, but Izuku had jumped down from the roof before she could. Landing in a crouch in front of her, he stood up with a cheery grin, sure to let the signa on his hoodie show.
"Sorry, miss. Good Samaritans like me can't just watch a mugging." She stumbled back in recognition (and his grin grew a little smugger, because it was fun when villains knew who he was). That was her mistake, because it gave him the second needed to make his move.
It was an easy capture, since she didn't have a fight-oriented quirk, and before long, Izuku had her bound up and was reassuring the stunned lady. He quickly took a selfie holding up a peace sign with the captured villain and visibly confused lady in it to post on Jadeite's account, and with the internet already aware, he was on his way to let the police know that he was back.
By the time he got there, Tsukauchi was already standing outside, arms crossed and slight frown across his face.
"Izuku—" Naomasa started, glaring up to where the vigilante crouched on the rooftop across the street.
"Nope!" Izuku interrupted, voice coming in clearly through the walkie-talkie on Naomasa's hip as he pointed at his hoodie. "Four months to the day, so I'm Jadeite right now!" Why the boy had to be so difficult, Naomasa would never know.
"Right. Jadeite." Damn it all, really. "Why are there already dozens of articles screaming about how you've returned to the scene?"
"Ah, well, you see, I posted about it?"
All the energy left Naomasa as he sighed. "Of course you did." Rue the day that someone had made a fan account for Jadeite and he decided he needed to join in the social media scene-Naomasa really didn't want to know how he'd gotten verified. He looked up to the vigilante, squinting as the sun began to rise above the rooftops. "Come on down, I'll send some people to collect the mugger."
Before Izuku can respond, the door opened behind Naomasa and Sansa steps out, tired and shoulders dropping after a long night. His ears pick up as he catches sight of the boy on the roof.
"Hey Izuku! Any catches tonight?" Naomasa wonders why all his men like to encourage the reckless child (no it doesn't matter that Izuku has been doing this for seven years, he was still a child.)
"I'm not Izuku, I'm Jadeite right now! why can't you police ever get it right?" He whines playfully, before promptly hopping off the three story roof, giving Naomasa a heart attack, just as it has every single time he's done it. Izuku catches the railing of the second floor as he falls off it and, with a quick kick of his legs against the base of the rails once his fall has slowed, he backflips off and lands in an agile crouch. "Just one mugger," he continues as if he hadn't just risked death instead of climbing down like a normal person, "I've already sent in the location—an anonymous tip so that's probably why you didn't know!"
"Why," Naomasa groans "do you not just call me? You could do it legally you know, and not cause so many problems if you just went through it in the normal way."
"Because it's boring!" Izuku finger guns. "And what if the police figured out my identity! I'd be compromised!"
Sansa purrs out a little bit of laughter and Naomasa can only sigh. "Jadeite. I'd be surprised if a single officer in the whole district doesn't know exactly who you are. It's the worst kept secret on the force."
"Eh. I can pretend." The greenette shrugs.
"...You literally haze the greenies by dropping off a knocked out body and chatting with their commanding officers on their first nights."
"That's true…" Izuku nods in exaggerated contemplation.
Why does Naomasa still deal with him anyway?
"Just— just go inside and rest a bit. You know you have a shift today."
Izuku whines as he walks past, pulling down his face mask and shaking off his hood.
"No whining," Naomasa reminds, ruffling his hair as he walks past.
Bright green eyes turn to him, shining in indignation.
"I'm not a kid anymore, Kauchi-san!"
"Sure you're not." Naomasa shakes his head as he huffs out a laugh. "Don't forget to wear your uniform this time. Tsuki got it pressed because it was so wrinkly the other day, and you know how she gets about tidiness."
"Hai hai," Izuku agrees as he slumps into the police station, exhaustion seeming to manifest immediately the moment he sheds his vigilante persona. By the time Naomasa has filled out the paperwork on the arrest, Izuku is collapsed on his couch, dressed in a recently pressed suit and tie that would certainly be wrinkled to hell and back by the next day.
Naomasa snorted fondly, dimming the lights and heading to the coffee machine for some sludge that would have to suffice for the rest of his shift.
