I own nothing (except OC's)
Waking up in a fictional universe should do wonders as to what people says it would do. After all, people do always want an escape to reality.
People would dream about their fantasies in different worlds. The things that they would do if they were in a fantasy world. The people that they'd meet. The powers that they'd have. It sounds like paradise, doesn't it? But it's not.
It never was.
I have before lived a life like that, hoping that one day I can experience my fantasies in real life. But little did I know, it would become real and it would soon turn into a nightmare.
One day I did the usual, and sooner or later, I went to sleep. That day was a day I would never forget. I hoped that my dreams would take me away, but it did more than that. Subsequently, I proved that string theory existed.
One day I woke up, encompassing everything. Everything that once was, everything that will ever be. In a space outside of everything. I wanted to panic, only to find out that the concept of panicking is apart of me.
What?
String Theory is tiny strings in a circle; that when it vibrates, it describes different particles as different modes of vibration with the line. It can give different particles, including gravity. It got done as a way to tie the knot between General Relativity and Quantum Physics. It worked, but String Theorists had to face a new problem. It doesn't work in my (former) universe with its 3-Dimensional Space. It needed 10 Dimensions to work out. So what String Theorists did next was made calculations in model universes, got rid of the six other Dimensions, and tried to describe their own. But so far, none had succeeded, till I did in which the cost was dear.
I had just become a 10th Dimensional Being. I was pretty much for the lack of better word God If I can travel to a dimension lower.
If someone were to take me out, everything would cease to exist. I just live more. Everything is just emanations from the real me. For example, think of the sun. The sun sends its light as emanations to Earth that if someone were to take out the sun. There would be no more light. That's what it is now.
I hoped it was a dream, but it is not. It is real. I'm just everything now.
There are endless possibilities I could do now—things I couldn't do in my old-life, simply because it was the law. But now, I am the law. I can do whatever I want without any fear of repercussions. The temptations. But is it right? Is it my place of doing those acts of evil. Hell, it's not evil anymore now that I am the concept itself. I can just rewrite the laws of sin into being kind, and right into being evil or just remove the idea of evil.
I grew up as a good man, but now I shouldn't allow myself to hold my morality. People should be grateful for what I am to them; the least they could do is let me have my pleasure.
But I can't push myself forward, the drive.
I just wanted my old life back.
I always wondered why "God" never gave us powers, and this was it, this was why. The fantasies were just never real because of what people would do. We were just savages by nature; we just never knew it. It's taking every sense of morality to hold myself back. The question is, how long until I let go?
Joker once said that all it takes is just a push. One Bad Day, to be driven to insanity. I never understood what he meant until now. All one had to do was put them in a predicament, and give them a push to the edge—a drive-in which they fall to their dooms. People may act as they can relate, but they can't until they experience it for themselves. They just never will understand the circumstances.
I could now exist in fiction, though—so many things I could do, and once again the pleasure. I was born a male, and I always will be a male. I could experience life as the opposite gender, but it's not the way for me.
It would feel weird, and I'm already experiencing it as it is. I'm just not taking notice of it. It's like having sounds in your ear only to be completely overshadowing by even larger sounds. The only way I would hear a particular noise is by focusing. That's what it is.
One of my favorite fiction was the DCU, and that's where I wanted to start my Godhood. But even after that, I was faced with a new problem. I was just infinitely powerful, that if I tried to enter my true-self, it would only destroy everything by just appearing in a dimension lower in on itself. I had to do two things. It's either I lower my power to the point where it doesn't even exist (to my perspective) or create an emanation to interact with the lesser dimensions.
I wasn't going to test the waters with the former, so the latter won the argument. Now how was I going to create an emanation? From what I know, Darkseid can create his avatars to interact with the 3-Dimensional Space.
He just did, and like a lightbulb going off, that's what I needed to do. I shouldn't think I should just do.
I am everything; I am God.
I started to visualize the body that I wanted to be. The universe that I wanted to be in, I thought about Earth-Prime and then New Earth—taking some elements of the old and the new combining them, creating a universe—creating the DCU.
Heh, this is like a dream but, I think it's even better in reality.
Though, how long did I have until I got bored of playing with the DCU? Would I just erase it from existence? Or would I just put it in a time stop state, until my interest returns to it again? Damn, this felt wrong, but I can't handle "wrong" when I am the concept of wrong.
Once the DCU was doing and dusted, it was time to start creating an Avatar. There was only going to be one avatar in the entire DCU, well for now. I could create more, but right now, that's what I wanted to do. Having too many puppets to control for a beginner would prove to be too much.
I visualized myself being a typical redhead, with freckles. I had green eyes and fair skin.
The hairstyle was unknown yet, but it will come to its light soon. With that, I finished. I didn't think; I just did, well after taking a page from Darkseid's book. There was one last thing I almost forgot to add. Will, I gave my avatar any powers? I was infinitely powerful that if I gave my avatar all of it, well, you already know. I know I should just stick to no strengths, but I'll just be putting myself at a disadvantage just for a paranoia, a paranoia that might come true.
In the end, I decided to give my avatar limitless potential. The potential of allowing the avatar to learn/master anything it wants, regardless of skills, personality, species, etc. I didn't want to be a powerhouse, but at the same time, I didn't want to be a stick in the mud. I wanted to be at a level where I can fit right in. I didn't just want to tip the scales in my favor right away, it's no fun, and it destroys the point of my existence in the DCU.
Surviving in the DCU will be like me playing chess (If I'm not pulling any strings.) I wanted to see what I will achieve in the endgame, whether I will be a Villain or a Hero, hell, even a Neutral Party.
There was a final question I had to think, should I experience life as a newborn? It would be weird, but it will clear a lot of problems instead of being the guy that just popped right out the sky. If I'm going to exist, I had to do it justly. No advantages.
I closed my "eyes," and allowed the strings to attach to my avatar, my puppet. There will be a lot of Dangers, which meant I couldn't wait. My avatar spawned at a random location on Earth, and just like that, I was now in the DCU.
Being "reborn" into the DCU, I expected something cool to happen. I mean sure I pulled strings for it to happen, but even so still. All I got when I was reborn as a Newborn, was that I was raised by a good-income family that would be suffering hell in the pits of Gotham. They lived in a lovely apartment on the top side of the Town. My parents lived in the Burnley District. I was just glad that I wasn't living in the East End, and my parents weren't poor. East End was were the scum of the Earth resides. Where taverns, strip clubs, prostitutes, and crime happen. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if they did the option of selling me away at the hands of someone worse or just downright abandoning me never to come back. It is Gotham, after all.
Have you ever wondered why the psychos so "coincidentally" happen to exist in Gotham? Why is the city such a hotspot for them? Well, you might be thinking, the writers made Gotham like that. Well, that's true on a basic level. But on a fundamental level, the entire city was possessed by a demon. Dr. Simon Hurt did that. It was trapped within Simon Hurt, granting him immortality, and it was stuck within a state of Limbo between Earth and Hell so that it wouldn't leave Gotham City.
Batman always speculated that there was someone behind the curtains manipulating these events in his constant battle for Justice. That person was Dr. Simon Hurt. Every act of Evil, Act of Corruption, Act of Malice. It was all caused by him and as if it wasn't enough. It wasn't him entirely; it was also Darkseid. The Demon? It was the Hyper Adapter, the Omega Sanction, where life is death. It was Darkseid behind, well everything evil that happened in Gotham.
It's also important to note that evil isn't evil. It's just the failure to live up to the idea of Good, to create a hole, the hole in things. It's symbolic of what Dr. Simon Hurt has said in the past. Symbolic to Darkseid's fall on the multiverse that created a hole so deep, he was going to drag the multiverse into a pit.
Darkseid isn't just someone trying to gain the Anti-Life Equation to rule the multiverse. He's the evil within us, that dark corner in your mind that tells you to do the unthinkable. Every moment of anger, every act of cruelty, the act of hurting someone, is Darkseid. People battle against him every day in every moment of their lives.
Darkseid is the hole in things.
Darkseid is.
Now with all the shit that goes down within Gotham City, you still have to ask yourself. Why do people still insist on coming to Gotham? The Answer is Money. People have a lot of opportunities here, and in a crime-infested town, people can exploit the Town of crime. They can do a lot with it. Gotham is also corrupt in politics that politicians use as well. Bruce Wayne, with all his money and power, could make Gotham great and finish crime right then there, but he doesn't do it. Does Bruce Wayne put on a Cape and Cowl to take down Bad guys so that he can feel good about his losses? So that in a way, Bruce can act like something is happening from his actions. Bruce doesn't even need Batman at all, to help Gotham.
Batman's never to kill rule was stupid. Because of that, Joker piled Graveyards upon Graveyards, made them all full, yet he still allowed him to live. Some people are just meant to die, deserving of death. That's only the hard truth, like cold metal digging in your flesh.
I was right now in a crib, wrapped around in a blanket watched by my "mother." My "father" was outside doing his duties. He worked as a fisherman, which would make us pretty productive if he could work all day. I represented hope for them, hope that I can carry on their Legacy into a new, unfathomable light. They have lived through hardships, and they think I could succeed them. It makes me feel touched in a way that nobody else can, and I cared for them. But even though I had the power to make their wishes come true right here and now, it just not right in a way like that. It's not fair.
In my crib wrapped around my blanket, I decided to work out as a baby. Move my arms and legs around in clockwise circles. My mother, who was a red-haired black-eyed and had freckles, seemed to notice my change in behavior as I started doing those practices. Her expression didn't seem to change; she just simply walked up and stroke my hair in wonder. She didn't look so surprised, and I guess she concluded that I was an unnatural baby.
When I was born, I didn't even cry once I just looked up at her as she snuggled me in, my father gave us all one big hug. My father had black hair, green eyes; he was young and fit. Whenever I thought too hard, I nearly fell asleep. But I took to this as just another practice for me to get more influential mentally in my avatar. Failure isn't about giving up, it's about staying down, and people who visit down are losers. I give no respect. Batman was my favorite DC Hero and arguably character of all time. He was a man without powers but always manage to do the impossible. He was proof that you don't need the capabilities to be a hero.
Batman was the God of paranoia for a good reason. While other heroes would let their guards down around people they know, Batman doesn't. He's always on the job. That man is still on the watch, and he has my respect and favoritism.
What's ironic about "us" is that we make these heroes fight to destroy villains, but never give them a break; we just want them to keep fighting. What does that say? Are we bad guys too, or do we just like the concept of heroes defeating villains because it brings us Joy, shows our never-ending battle for good.
Hm, no need to overthink things.
My training practices went like that for 8 hours straight sometimes more, if I wanted to push the limit. I kept doing it to the point where I couldn't even move or think. I just wanted to sleep, but I stayed awake. My whole body was screaming at me in pain, but I ignored it. It would act like Pain Tolerance. I couldn't help but think about Arnold Schwarzeneggar. He was a role model, and to be honest if it weren't for the fact that I hadn't listened to his inspiring speech about how working hard to achieves what we want, I wouldn't even be pushing myself to the brink as it is. I wouldn't also have given this avatar the capacity for infinite potential and just opting to offer something more of a powerhouse.
During the whole 8 hours, I only stopped to either greet my parents, take a shower, play, or to feed, which was usually, breastfeeding. My mother did also have a young fit body, so that was something, though I doubt she'll ever know what I know, probably thinking I was too innocent to be thinking like that. Most women in the DCU was bound to be beautiful, it is fiction, and the writers made it that way. Most men were bound to be muscular, especially heroes and villains.
After 8 hours, I tried to keep up the facade of looking normal. It proved to be difficult, especially when I was tired as hell around my parents. They suspected that something was off, especially with how much sweat that was on the crib, and how bloody red the sclera of my eyes was. My parents read me like a book and concluded that I was busy. There was something about Parent and Child; they just know what the child knows. I think they knew I was training, preparing myself, and they just let me be. They knew I was different, that different. I enjoyed being with them for that.
I avoided the process of sleep so I could keep on training again. I kept trying to walk. My body was adapting; I shocked it. Shocking the muscle is what Arnold would've said. It was changing fairly quickly, like having your body turn cold after taking a cold shower. In just a few more years, I could become the next Saitama and speak of Saitama; My mother's name was Adala, Adal, meaning "noble." My father's name was Badulf; Badu meant "fight, struggle," and Wulf was "wolf." My name was Gebhard. Gebhard pronounced GEHP-hart, Geb said, "gift" combined with hard "brave, hardy." My family had elements that were of Ancient Germanic, which meant that my family was German and Danish due to me & my mother being a redhead. Our last name was Voidwalker, which brought questions. Do we have something to do with the void or what? Did we walk the void?
I couldn't help but think how close the last name Voidwalker was to Skywalker. Hey, I can't help but think about Star Wars whenever someone mentions something the ends with 'Walker.' Anakin Skywalker is easily one of the most Iconic Characters of all time, a Character that is both loved and tragic. He was a slave his whole life, till the very end, and that sort of shows how the way Society is. We're slaves one way or another; we just don't know it. But now I'm no such things anymore.
I am God.
A God that is entertaining himself with his fictional universe till he reached boredom.
Those were my infancy years. Most of the time, they were spent in on a crib, not doing much. Training like hell, being tired as hell. I didn't start counting when I was training; I started counting when my body began to hurt. Just because I had the potential to become the most powerful (in an avatar), it didn't mean I couldn't die if I overdid it. My puppet could still very much die. Sure, I could spawn a new one, but it always doesn't mean I should take risks of dying as an Avatar. It would also raise a lot of questions, questions that I can't answer.
I had to keep this one alive as much as possible. That includes not killing myself for training, no matter how much I wanted to experiment on gaining new strengths.
I had grown to be a lot taller than the average of four years old, more prominent too. I had a mop of red hair; freckles were now more evident. I was wearing a black jacket, short pants, tennis shoes.
I was finally in Pre-K, and let me tell you one thing. It was utterly dull. There was no excitement here. I just knew too much, didn't even need to use my brain to answer any questions my Teachers had. At times the Class would be stuck on a lesson, I would raise my hand to finish the experience, but I would just get avoided one way or another. My teachers tried to have me play with blocks or with other kids, but I couldn't relate, and not to mention, I was intimidating. I outshined every kid that was there. I got placed at the top of the list on a board showing other Pre-K Schoolers how every kid should be.
I concealed my strength. I was able to lift an entire car with enough effort, and my sight allows me to see down to the microscopic level if I stared long enough. When I first noticed something green and slimy that moving along my body, I made a declaration to take long baths that day, and I mean incredibly long showers if my parents had the idea of doing so. I had a muscle that clung to every part of my body. I was pretty much a Peak, Human. I may have all this strength, but I have no experience to go with it. Someone like Batman could take me out, and speaking of Batman. I wanted him to teach me how to fight.
When I had to wear clothing that covered every part of me, I asked my parents about that. I didn't even need to explain myself because they just instantly knew my reasoning. I hugged them long and hard about that. I wasn't worried about what Pre-K Schoolers might think; there were too dumb at least for now. I was just concerned about what the adults might think.
For the most part, the kids in my school weren't worth remembering. They'd just get killed off by someone like The Joker, who would be active shortly. These Kids would just be mere cannon fodders for the real essential characters of the DCU.
If people think I have powers and not healthy, which I am both things. Who knows what can happen. It is Gotham; I'll never let my guard down around a city like that. Even in a school filled with innocent kids who know nothing about the harsh reality of their world and city. I could very much skip grades right here and now, but I chose not to. I would risk drawing attention to myself. The other reason I only needed two words, Barbara Gordan. She joined my Pre-K School. I recognized her dad Jim Gordon, or his full name James Worthington "Jim" Gordon. He looked a lot younger, which made sense for obvious reasons; his mustache was starting to grow. He was wearing a Suit when he admitted Barbara. Was he the commissioner at this time? If he wasn't commissioner, then Bruce wasn't Batman yet.
I said before surviving in the DCU would be like playing chess, every move I make will have consequences. I was playing it safely, don't want to make big leaps and jumps that could get this avatar killed.
Barbara was wearing a full-on white long sleeve shirt with a white skirt, leggings, ballet shoes. She was wearing a Tiara.
Barbara has quickly become the second prodigy. Weirdly enough, the entire Class was cheering her on to dethrone me. I guess they were tired of me being the King for a long, long time. However, Barbara can only dream she can reach to my place. Because I've said it before and I'll repeat it.
I am God.
I wanted to be her friend, not because I saw her as one. I saw her as a potentially useful asset in the future. She does become Batgirl after all, and a lot of shit goes down. She was also the only relatable person right now since her intellect far surpasses that of a kid. But she's still a Kid. However, I couldn't get near enough to her simply because I'll put it in her words. It happened during recesses, where I will hide from view doing exercises that no kid should do.
"I don't need help from a rival!"
I sat there, dumbfounded. That wasn't what I was trying to ask Barbara about, but one glare from her just sent me away. I was going to turn right back around ask her forcibly, but it would only raise questions. Wouldn't it look weird for the Social Outcast to all of a sudden want to befriend someone that they barely know? Yeah right.
It's either I have to wait till she comes to me, or wait till she reaches an age where she is smart enough to understand what I was trying to say. I didn't have a problem with both choices. It was just a matter of which option will most likely happen, and if I needed her friendship now or later. I might just be overthinking, but what can I say. It's worth thinking, especially when you're in a school that just not a challenge to you. Technically speaking, nothing is a challenge anymore, but I am in this form an Avatar, so I am limited.
Whatever, I will have Barbara in my clutches one or another, and I won't get denied because of some petty comment from a 4-year-old!
Ok, so News flash, I pretty much got avoided for an entire month. It was utterly natural, I guess, but also pretty frustrating. It was only during this Class, whereas usual the Kids were studying, whatever studies I had were already finished. I wouldn't call it studies, more like a plan. Things that I had to do, simply to get by in this world. During Class, she finally came to me.
"Hey, um, Gebhard, can you help me with this."
It was Barbara, and she was asking me this. I was practically hopping at the chance to help her. Barbs would ask usually be asking Teacher for help, but this one time where the Teachers were not around. I was pretty much the only reliable choice she had left. Did I subtly plan this? Maybe.
"Sure."
My voice was high-pitched, but I was curious to see how it would sound when I was a full-grown man. The most significant move I had made ever since I came into this Fictional World, was helping Barbs. I think it made her look stupid on how I finished her studies with ease but whatever. It was now an excellent opportunity to become her friend and become her friend I did, in a weird sort of way.
She would come to me for help whenever she was struggling, and that's it. She still proclaimed to be rivals, but I guess this is the closest thing I can get to be with her than nothing at all. Something is always better than nothing.
A principle I started to use is 'best possible friend, worst possible enemy.' I needed to stick to those that I know will be helpful to me in the future. Those that will make my life in the DCU safer, making sure that any significant move I make will have no repercussions. No blowbacks that can get me killed, so early in the game.
Thinking about it, this came as another potential problem. Had my mere presence alone, affected Barbara's rise to Batgirl? Would she even be Batgirl now? It would just make my means of having her as a potential guardian go down the toilet if that's the case. Maybe it was better if I hadn't been her friend and just waited until she became Batgirl, but then she would be more challenging to control if I went with the latter. If I went with the Former, I would just risk the existence of Batgirl not to come to fruition.
I had to end this debate, for good this time.
"Gebhard!"
The screaming of my name by Barbara is enough to know my answer.
"Coming, Barbs!"
Time had passed, and we grew close. Barbara had practically told her dad how cool of a friend I was, which I approved since it would help me get closer to Jim in the future. I told my Parents a friend I had made in Barbara; they pinched my cheek in recognition and love. I still kept it as friendship, but now it felt like a sibling relationship. The Class was disappointed, but they were happy that I found a friend at long last. It felt like an event today. Heh, as long as she can prove to be useful in the future, I approve, but a knot between her and me was formed, which was unnatural as for I am God.
I shouldn't feel those things. I constructed this universe for my entertainment, not for this. But this is real life I am messing with; it should feel wrong, but tied to those things, I am not. I am it. Take away the wrong; then everything will be right. Evil will be considered correct. Take away the right; then, everything will be wrong. Righteous will be as wrong. I had to keep a balance.
Right now, I had Barbara on my back. She demanded that I carried her. We were walking right back to school after recess. Barbara wasn't known to being bossy, but things are changing. I didn't even feel her at all; had it been any other kid, they would've had their bodies crushed well, figuratively?
She had one time seen that I had unnatural strength and a developed body after I was carrying a rock on my back, the jacket was off. I knew one of these days I would get caught, so it was to no surprise that I did. But I practically begged her that so that she wouldn't tell anybody else, and I told her how dangerous the situation was that if someone found out. Heh, she would listen to me only on a condition that I carried her.
I didn't have any problems with it; I just hoped that she wouldn't overstep the boundaries. She is a Kid, after all.
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
The question catches me off guard like a free freight train slamming into me. What do I want to be? I am everything there is nothing else for me to achieve, or is there?
"I don't know, Barb. What about you?" I say in a slow and soft tone as I am redirecting the question back to her. I was genuine despite knowing what the answer would be. Just because I was everything, doesn't mean I should see and understand what would happen at all times. Think of a puppet, a puppetmaster controls the creature, but then all of a sudden a string detaches itself. The Puppetmaster didn't know that will happen.
"I want to be a cop like my Dad!"
She chirps as she smiles widely down at me, it was highly infectious, but I allowed a smile to form. She was going to be more than that; I can only imagine.
"I'm sure you will."
She lays her head on top of mine, which I found cute.
