Hey guys, Striker777 here with the fifth chapter of this story. Be sure to let me know what you think in a review below. Also, to Cherikson, thank you for your input, but the tag isn't exactly a hidden thing, unless you have the necessary skill or equipment to make it so, and being a new class will instantly draw attention which people will question, but yes, under other circumstances, this would be considered a stupid action. Also a huge thank you to the other reviewers, and unfortunately JohnBarry, the boss will not be a deathstalker with wings, but that is not a bad idea for a monster that may or may not make an appearance in a later chapter.
Also, A huge thank you to The White Wulf for your review and support. I really appreciate it man, and I took a look at your story. It will go in different routes, but I am excited to follow along with your story and have a great time reading it as your Jaune follows his own path. But for now, onto the story.

"Okay, so all we have to do is wait our turn for the debrief." said Yang as she walked around in a circle, pumped full of energy and ready for the dungeon.
"We're last to go, so we'll have to wait for a while." said Weiss, looking over her blade again to make sure it was up to shape. Nodding to herself, she sheathed the rapier and sat quietly on the bench they found themselves at.
"It's already been half an hour, so we should be going in soon." said Ren, meditating as his friend Nora ran around them.
At that moment, Glynda Goodwitch appeared out of a magic circle and walked over to the group. "Alright students, you will now be transported to the dungeon entrance. Please step into the circle." said the deputy headmistress as she pointed to her magic circle. "Best of luck to you all." she said.
The students nodded, thanking the sorceress and stepped into the magic circle.
"Once you step out of the magic circle, you will appear at the dungeon gate, simply step inside and begin your assault on the dungeon. We do not know what monster class will be present in the dungeon or what awaits you beyond this realm, but we have faith that you will be just fine. Should any of you need assistance," began the teacher, walking over to Jaune and placing a magic circle on his palm. "I will appear from this and assist in clearing the dungeon, but you will fail if you call on me."
The team nodded, and Jaune looked down at the magic circle, which had transformed into a magic rune.
[You have been Afflicted by a Rune - Teleportation]
[This Rune will teleport the caster to the Rune]
[Rune learnt - Teleportation]
Jaune looked down in shock. His first rune, and it was powerful.
Granted, it might not be the most useful rune to everyone. Maybe someone with a projectile weapon, like an Archer or Assassin who has throwing knives or weapons. Teleportation arrows or knives would be very useful for people like them. Jaune nodded his head, looking at Blake and her pouch of throwing weapons.
She would probably have the most use for them. The Assassin class was known for low vitality. One good strike from a damage dealer and they go down. That's why they take out the damage dealers first, like mages and other assassins. She could use the runes to attack or flee as the situation called for it.
That just left one final question.
How does he actually apply runes?
He never did it before, so he had no idea about how he was meant to do it. Did he just carve them onto the weapon? Were there restrictions? What was [Rune Smithing]?
Something to experiment with later. Checking his MP, seeing it to be 634/650, Jaune was satisfied that he would have enough MP to be useful in the dungeon. Jaune drew [Crocea Mors] and [Arc] and walked into the dungeon, following his party.
[The quest (The First Quest) has begun]
[Loading…]
The dungeon was like any other, like an abandoned labyrinth with turns and bends and tunnels around every corner. The central area was where the heroes found themselves entering. But, Jaune had a bad feeling when he entered the dungeon. Looking around, the walls seemed very smooth for a regular cave labyrinth dungeon, which was a bad sign. However, the clock was ticking, so they needed to get moving.
"Let's get going." said Jaune. His sword in his right hand and his dagger in his left, he made his way down one of the corridors. "It seems like this one has the greatest amount of magical energy radiating off it. This is the way to the boss room."
That also meant that this was the fastest way to end the quest and get the bonus objective of completing it in four hours.
He REALLY wanted that skill stone.
He led them down the path, walking as the waves of aura got bigger. Until they found themselves in a room that was carved out with actual doorways, flags and torches.
"SHIT!" screamed Jaune.
"What's wrong?" asked Ruby.
"We walked into a castle dungeon!" said Jaune.
"Then that means… oh no." muttered Blake.
"Yep. We're dealing with humanoid monsters."
Humanoid monsters were notoriously tricky. They weren't as predictable as the beast monsters and were usually weapon carriers, meaning extra deadliness. They could also possess armour, meaning they were harder to kill as well.
Just as Jaune said it, skeletal monsters started to appear out of the archways and the walls, armed with swords and spears and covered in leather armour, a few spearmen with helmets.
Jaune had one with a sword rush him, so he blocked the strike with his own sword. "Attack!" he screamed as he pushed back against the monster, knocking it off balance and running it through the chest, shattering the magic crystal.
[Skeleton Warrior (C Rank) Killed - +2000EXP]
[Collected - Skeleton Bone (C Rank)]
[Bonus Objective 1 - Kill 5 monsters (1/5)]
Jaune knew he wouldn't get the stone. Shattering a stone of a monster means death to the monster, but the stone is worthless to anyone after that. The stone simply shatters and disappears. Jaune looked around to see another skeleton with a spear rushing him, so he used [Crocea Mors] to block the spear and used [Arc] to stab the monster in the eye, getting a roar of pain, but Jaune kept pushing his dagger deeper, digging into the spirit of the monster, but not killing it. He stabbed [Crocea Mors] through the chest, smashing the stone again.
[Skeleton Warrior (C Rank) Killed - +2000EXP]
[Level Up]
[Bonus Objective 1 - Kill 5 monsters (2/5)]
Jaune caught his breath, looking back at the others as they had their own skeletons defeated, but no one had leveled up, probably already too high a level for these monsters to make a real dent in their EXP. He didn't get why the skeletons were worth less EXP from the Beowolves, something to ask Peter about in the teacher's lounge.
"Anyone need their weapon's sharpened?" asked Jaune, getting a nod from Blake and Pyrrha. Jaune smiled at them and went over to them, Blake first, and took a hold of her daggers.
[Assassin Dagger (D Rank)]
[A dagger that specialises in silent and deadly strikes]
[Durability - 800/1350]
[Attack - 73/140]
Jaune ran his hand along the blade, running his mana through it and feeling his skills begin to take an effect on the blades.
[Used Skill X2 - Sharpen]
[Weapon Maintenance - +20EXP]
[Used Skill X2 - Reinforce]
[Weapon Maintenance - +20EXP]
Jaune nodded in satisfaction as he looked over the daggers once more.
[Assassin Dagger (D Rank)]
[A dagger that specialises in silent and deadly strikes]
[Durability - 1300/1350]
[Attack - 123/140]
He handed the weapons back to Blake, who nodded in appreciation, and turned to Pyrrha, who held out her own weapons. Jaune smiled and took them, before looking at them in disbelief.
[Miló (B Rank)]
[A sword that was found in a humanoid dungeon by Pyrrha Nikos]
[Durability - 1123/4300]
[Attack - 112/425]
Jaune was completely gobsmacked. A B Rank weapon? Held by a child at Beacon Academy? No way. He turned his attention to the shield he was handed.
[Akoúo̱ (B Rank)]
[A shield that was found in a humanoid dungeon by Pyrrha Nikos]
[Durability - 1672/5600]
[Defense - 142/450]
This was extremely high level equipment. What was Pyrrha doing with was apparently found in a dungeon by her, but if that was the case, Pyrrha had been in B Rank dungeons before, like him. So she was definitely an A Rank, maybe even S Rank. And she must have been powerful enough or important enough to actually get the weapons, but then again, maybe she just got lucky.
Yeah, she just got lucky.
…
Okay, not even Jaune believed that. This was a testament to her skills.
[Used Skill - Sharpen]
[Weapon Maintenance - +10EXP]
[Used Skill X2 - Reinforce]
[Weapon Maintenance - +20EXP]
He looked back down at the weapons once more, watching them with envy.
[Miló (B Rank)]
[A sword that was found in a humanoid dungeon by Pyrrha Nikos]
[Durability - 1623/4300]
[Attack - 162/425]
[Akoúo̱ (B Rank)]
[A shield that was found in a humanoid dungeon by Pyrrha Nikos]
[Durability - 1672/5600]
[Defense - 142/450]
Jaune handed the weapons back to Pyrrha, who took them gratefully and smiled at him. Jaune smiles back, but he felt a part of his disbelief flooding through his face. She turned away, slightly upset, and walked off to check her weapons.
Jaune sighed and looked ahead, with all the magic stones destroyed and the loot of the monsters of such a bad quality, there was no need to loot them. Jaune walked forward, going down the next lot of catacombs towards the objective.
He wanted the boss.

[Spirit Armour (C Rank) Killed - +4500EXP]
[Level Up]
[Collected - Magic Stone (C Rank)]
[Bonus Objective 1 - Kill 5 monsters (3/5)]
Jaune panted from his battle, exhausted from the fight he had. The others didn't seem to have a problem with the monsters, but they were all mainly ten levels above him and combat classes, meaning they had skills to assist them, whilst he had none.
However, he had proven himself. He could handle himself just fine in the dungeon. He wasn't a small child that had to be babysat.
Ruby had actually gone up to level 27, and Yang had moved up to 34, with everyone else going up a level.
He didn't know about Pyrrha however, as her class was still being kept hidden. But, with those weapons, which meant she went into a B Rank dungeon before coming to Beacon, and that she had been in a humanoid type dungeon and still got loot, meant that she was powerful. She could easily be level 40 or higher. Had she gone up a level when she entered the dungeon?
Probably not.
Jaune sighed and took out the magic stone from his [Inventory], placing it into the bag with the rest of the magic stones. The party would divide it up after the battle, and the earnings would go towards the lot of them equally.
Items, however, went to the person who got them, so Jaune would be able to keep his [Skeleton Bone] which he could sell at a high price to be crafted into accessory materials.
Or, he could make the accessories. He did have to test his abilities as an [Arcane Craftsman] after all. If he could also make accessories, then he may be able to make [Rune Smithing] work on accessories too, maybe even tailored clothes as well.
Those thoughts would have to wait, however, as Jaune was still inside a dungeon and had to worry about the quest first, then the possibility of forging runes into rings and tunics.
Looking around, he sensed the presence of the boss was drawing closer, and with just under 3 hours to go until the bonus objective ran out, and factoring the time needed for a boss fight, they would have to hurry if he wanted the rewards.
Jaune began walking down the path, followed by Yang and Nora, with the others trailing behind just in case of an ambush. Jaune was only out the front because he was the only one who could detect the mana of the boss.
It felt like it was drawing him in. Begging him to come and conquer it.
Maybe it was an effect of the bonus objective.
And, he never heard of the [Divine Random Box] before. It must have been special, maybe only rare items or rarer than that. Either way, it would be an incredible item to have at his disposal. He could make a lot of money from what that box gave him or accelerate his skills further than before. He was excited at the prospect.
Jaune was led down to a path where they entered another wide area, this time with some zombies appearing from the columns. Jaune took out his sword and dagger and readied himself for the fight. He had already gained two levels, he may gain two more and unlock his passive.
Jaune couldn't wait.
He rushed at the zombie, running it through with [Crocea Mors] to make it stay still, and slammed his dagger into it's head.

"This is it huh?" asked Ruby as the gang looked at the black and purple doors.
"Yep, welcome to a boss room Ruby." said Jaune. "I'm kinda scared at the prospect of what's inside though. All those tough monsters and this one is even stronger than them."
"Don't worry about it." said Yang. "We've conquered loads of other stuff here, so one monster shouldn't be that much of a problem."
"Yang, I've seen people die because they underestimated the boss. You need to be more careful." said Jaune. "We should-"
"Look Jaune, no offense-" began Weiss, "but you're an NPC. I think we can handle ourselves in there, just stay back and prepare your [Reinforcement] skill."
Jaune, mildly pissed off, just shrugged and made the gesture of 'you first' towards the door and boss. Weiss walked over, pushing the door open. She entered first, followed by Yang and Nora, then Pyrrha, Ren and Blake, and finally Ruby and Jaune bringing up the rear.
They entered a room, wide and open, with pillars along a red carpet walkway leading up to an occupied throne. The room had red banners running down from the end with a purple symbol in the middle. Jaune and everyone else recognised it instantly.
"The insignia of the God of Darkness." muttered Jaune.
"Indeed." said a deep and threatening voice. The group turned to the throne, seeing the man seated upon it. He was a dark elf, whited eyes with dark skin, pointed ears, but unlike other dark elves, didn't seem to be carrying a wand or staff. He had purple mage robes, however, but what scared them most was the tag above his head.
[Arzyk Vandro - Level 67 (A Rank)]
"N-no way. An A Rank dungeon boss?!" screamed Yang.
"Yes. I had to restrain the flow of power coming out of the dungeon to be here, I simply had to be here. Meeting a champion is so rare that it basically only happens once in a lifetime!" said the elf with glee, before looking at the group.
"No… there are two… EVEN BETTER!" he screamed. "Two champions in the one place, and the feeling you both give off is so different, yet you are both so underdeveloped. You probably can't even manifest your powers yet." he mocked.
"Champions… what is he talking about?" asked Blake.
"Don't know, but we need Goodwitch." said Weiss. "We can't handle an A Rank boss, we'll die."
"You won't get the chance." said Arzyk, rushing at them from behind and smashing Jaune into a wall. "Yes… I can sense her on you. So she made you her champion, huh? She made a mistake." he said, throwing Jaune into one of the ends of the room, smashing into the wall and making a giant crater.
"JAUNE!" cried Ruby, as she went to help him, only to be stopped by a giant suit of armour appearing before her with a giant axe. It was dull, gave off no sense of life, but stared down at her with purpose.
The purpose of taking her life.
[Suit Puppet (A Rank)]
[Level 53 - Warrior]
"Like it? This is my power. With my mana threads, I can control this suit of armour like a puppet to do my bidding. Now then, if the champion of the god of light could please come forward, I may just be grateful enough to spare everyone who survives the duration of our encounter."
No one moved, everyone grabbing their weapons and aiming them at the elf. And then…
Pyrrha stepped forward.
Casting off her cloak, she was shown in what appeared to be [Steel] painted bronze. She had a chestplate, arm guards, leg armour and boots all made of [Steel], with fiery red hair and emerald eyes, she also took off a bracelet on her arm, revealing her own tag.
[Pyrrha Nikos (S Rank)]
[Level 41 - Champion]
"So… it was you. You are the champion that the God of Light chose of this generation. How wonderful!" said the elf. "I must study your abilities, your powers, the mark he gave you! Show me!" he screamed, rushing at her. Pyrrha breathed in and out slowly.
"[Holy Mark - Level 1]"
A black marking started to appear on Pyrrha's chest, right beow her neck, and branched out slightly, looking like feathers. Pyrrha gripped her sword, channeling her mana into it and rushing forward for an overhead slash. The elf drew his two elven daggers and blocked her strike. "OH! THE [Holy Mark]?! THAT ABILITY GRANTS YOU HOLY DAMAGE AGAINST SERVANTS OF THE GOD OF DARKNESS! HOW INTERESTING!" he screamed, leaping at her. "COME AT ME! WHEN I DEFEAT YOU, ANYONE LEFT ALIVE FACING MY PUPPET IS FREE TO GO! SO GO AHEAD AND DIE QUICKLY SO I CAN EXAMINE YOU!"
During this, the armour rushed forward and attacked the group. Ren rushed forward, drawing his two short swords and running at the puppet. He began with a slash to the torso, which did not affect the armour at all, and was then shoved back with a swing of the side end of the axe. Nora caught him, rushing forward after putting him down and swinging her hammer at the armour, who caught it with one hand, shocking the barbarian, and sending her down to the ground. Yang rushed into battle, pulling a punch, but it was caught by the suit of armour, who took a hold of her wrist and slammed her into the ground. Yang was tossed aside and Weiss stepped up, grasping a vial of ice type magic crystal dust and emptying it onto her hand, before running it along her blade and slamming it into the ground. A column of ice emerged and slammed into the armour, who was pushed back. This caused Ren and Blake to charge once more, both weapons drawn. Ren activated one of his skills, [Petal Sword Dance] and Blake activated [Cross Assassination], but the armour took his axe and smashed it into the ground, causing it to split up. Ren and Blake faltered, with Blake falling onto the ground and Ren being targeted for a shoulder charge by the armour. Ren was knocked unconscious, and Blake was in deep pain.
Ruby rushed at the thing, wanting to buy Weiss time to charge up another attack, using her scythe to strike the armour. It had no effect since her weapon quality was so bad, and the armour knocked her back, sending her into Weiss, who had just slammed her spell into the ground once more, creating a pillar of fire around the armour. Weiss, Ruby and Blake smiled in knowing that they won.
But Weiss noticed that she didn't get any EXP and knew the thing wasn't dead yet.
The armour rushed out and punched her, winding her and causing her to roll across the floor, getting knocked out in the process. Ruby watched in horror as she and Blake were the last ones able to fight him. Ruby readied her scythe for a hard battle.

"I was hoping I wouldn't see you for a while." said the Mistress of the Void, leaning over her champion.
"Feeling's mutual." responded the blonde, looking back up at the goddess who saved his life. "Fuck that hurt."
"Indeed, an A Rank champion of the God of Darkness is certainly no laughing matter. You cannot defeat him with your current strength." said Salem.
"Then how am I meant to?" asked Jaune.
"Did you believe that becoming my champion came with no benefits?" asked Salem in mock hurt. "Just like that other girl, the God of Light's champion, you have a mark as well, but yours is different."
"Whilst the mark of the God of Light that your friend has increases her damage against my and the God of Darkness' servants, your one is different. It relies on the strength of your opponent to work well, so this should be a great test run." she said, looking down at Jaune. "I chose you to be my champion because you were just like me, weak and powerless in your society. I gave you the same power that helped me to ascend to this power."
She showed Jaune an image of his back shoulder, which now had a mark that looked like 3 commas in a circle, a mark. "This is the [Cursed Mark], which gives you power at a cost. Be careful when using it." she said. "And with that, our time is up. Best of luck to you, my champion."
With that, she vanished, and Jaune felt himself being pulled back into the land of the living. He drew his breath, ready to fight.

As the armour stood over the remainder of the party, Ruby and Blake, prepared to finish them all off in one fell swoop, raising his axe high into the air. Ruby held up the handle in a vain attempt to protect the party. She never even heard the air move around the axe.
Looking up, she gasped in surprise as a sword was piercing through the helmet of the armour. She then saw a flash of blonde above the suit's head, grabbing onto either side of it and crushing it between their hands. Ruby looked up to see her first real friend Jaune.
But he was different.
He was paler, his left eye completely black with a red iris, black veils along the left side of his face, and had markings similar to Pyrrha adorning his body, but his seemed more wild, like flames. Ruby looked on in horror, her first friend resembling a demon, like the ones she had been told to fear since she was a young girl.
"J-Jaune…" said Ruby, and Jaune looked down at her and smiled a warm smile, much like the comforting ones her dad and uncle did when she was upset as a child.
"Rest up Ruby, I'll take it from here." said Jaune. Ruby nodded, and Jaune looked over his screens.

Jaune looked down at the screens in happiness. He had gained so much power from defeating that one monster. He also gained an axe, which he strapped to his back with some cloth from one of the flags that had been blown down due to his speed. He looked along the area to the dark elf, staring back at him since he felt the loss of his puppet, and studying his marks. "HOW INTERESTING! COME! LET ME STU-"
He didn't finish as Jaune vanished in a moment, and reappeared right in front of him, punching him back from Pyrrha. "Ha, so this is what strength feels like." muttered Jaune, nodding to himself. "I like it. I like it a lot."
"W-what power was that?" asked the dark elf, curious and coughing up some blood.
"This is the power of my [Curse Mark], [Underdog]. My strength, agility and speed increase proportional to the level difference between us multiplied by 2. So, with the 47 level difference between us, my stats have risen by 94. However, it takes 100 HP to manifest every second, and 500 MP to activate, but my MP reserves increase by 100 for every level difference." said Jaune. "This is the power of the Mistress of the Void, who gave me a chance at life. And I'd be damned if I don't use it!"
Jaune rushed forward once more, drawing his sword and dagger and slashing at the dark elf, who managed to just dodge it, but was shoulder slammed back. Jaune gave him no room to breath, moving into close combat again, going for a lunging stab to run him through, but Arzyk jumped back, so he ran to where he would land, and slashed his sword across his chest. Arzyk had a light cut in his chest, and was sent back slightly, but rushed Jaune with his daggers drawn, Jaune brought up [Crocea Mors] to block, and when the two intersected, his sword shattered. Wide eyed, Jaune jumped back, moving his sword into his inventory by dropping the [Skeleton Bone], sheathing [Arc], and holding his fists out in front of him.
Arzyk ran at Jaune, going to stab him with one of his daggers, but Jaune moved his body to the side and grabbed his wrist, beginning to spin around and drag Arzyk with him, throwing him into the ceiling. Jaune jumped up, slamming his fist into him and sending him down into the ground. As Arzyk laid there, trying to get back up, Jaune jumped off the ceiling and brought out his new war axe, slamming it into the dark elf's back. A scream was heard for a moment before it all died down.

Jaune smiled to himself, deactivating his [Curse Mark], but was immediately overcome with pain and exhaustion. Looking at his status, he saw that his HP was [217/4200], which was somehow less than what he had just gained in his level up. However, quickly realising that he must have taken damage whilst he was leveling up, he moved the notion aside as he collapsed onto his knees. Pyrrha and Ruby rushed up to him, taking an arm over each shoulder as they moved over to the rest of the group, waking them up and moving out of the dungeon before they were sealed inside forever.
As Jaune began to black out, he saw one final screen.

Hey guys, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Yes, before anyone asks, the curse marks are a reference to the curse marks of Naruto, and there will be some inspiration later on from the series as well, such as character development and abilities. And no, Jaune isn't going to blast his way out of every situation with a chidori or rasengan. Anyway, with the first quest complete and Jaune unlocking his passive and curse mark, the pathway is carved to help him for a while.
Also, I recently found an awesome image of Jaune when going through Pinterest from the RWBY fanart, and found the cover image to this story. I was able to trace it back to a post by 'Ethan Whitehead', but I don't think he is the artist, but if I'm wrong or if he is, please do let me know in the reviews so I can give this awesome artist mad props for making this. But for now, Striker777, over and out.
