They were out of Tartarus. Annabeth was relieved and exhausted. She gripped Percy's hand. He was laying on the ground next to her while their friends fought the monsters.
"Should we go help them?" Annabeth asked.
Percy shrugged. "I guess we should." He took her hand and helped her up slowly.
They charged together. Annabeth took out her new drakon bone sword and hacked monster after monster. She was doing well until she heard a sharp cry a few feet from her;Percy.
"Percy!" she screeched. She ran to his side as Jason took care of the monsters around her.
Percy's side was gushing blood. He was on the ground, slowly dying.
She knelt down beside him. "Perseus Jackson. Don't you dare die on me."
"Sorry Beth." he choked out, blood dribbling from the side of his mouth.
Annabeth didn't have the heart to scold him for calling her Beth. They both knew he was dying.
Then, Piper, Jason, Leo, Hazel, Nico, and Frank ran over. Annabeth assumed they had finished the fight by the way Hazel was wincing.
"Is he-" Piper started, then saw the state Percy
was in. Hazel choked out a sob, Frank putting his arm around her.
"Oh gods, bro," Jason said, covering his mouth.
"Percy, you promised!" Annabeth exclaimed, crying onto his chest.
Nico sighed. "I can feel his life force draining away."
Percy places his hand over Annabeth's. "I'm sorry. I broke my promise."
Leo sniffled. Piper started crying, Jason embracing her in a hug.
Nico kneeled down next to Percy. "I'm sorry. You don't have much longer."
Percy gave a weak chuckle. "I kinda assumed that. Nico, promise me you'll take care of Annabeth."
Nico nodded immediately. "I-I promise Percy."
Annabeth sobbed. "You can't leave me! After all we've been through!"
Percy ran his hand through her hair. "I love you, my Wise Girl. I'll wait for you."
"But won't you choose rebirth?" she asked.
He shook his head. "Not until I see you again. But I'll be with you always." With those words, the hero of Olympus took his last breath and closed his eyes for the final time.

It took Annabeth forever to fall asleep. Percy's death was still fresh in her mind. Every time she would think of him, she would sob. She realized that if she fell asleep, she'd probably think of his death. But sleep eventually overtook her.
The dream was nothing she was expecting. Yes it did have Percy in it.
Percy looked at her. "Hey Annabeth!"
Thankfully, she could still punch him. "You idiot! You died!" He held out her arms and she ran into them, sobbing.
"Annabeth, I told you I'd always be with you. And I am." he said. "Each night in your dreams, I'll be there. Just dream up a place you want to go, and we'll go there."
She slowly planted a kiss on his lips. "I'm excited to see what you have planned for tomorrow then."
