Loving Fathers Always Understand

Frisk and Fuku looked around in desperation. "Where is she?" Frisk asked in worry.

"I don't know," Fuku said softly as she was worried too.

The school day had started well, but then bullies had come up and mocked Chara because of her red eyes, calling her horrible names and one bully even pushed her, which had caused Chara to run as they also threw rocks at her, still calling her terrible names. "Frisk," Fuku said after a bit. "I think we have no choice. We have to call our folks."

The brown-haired child sighed. "Mom's going to be so worried," she said.

"I know," the green fire elemental said softly, pulling out her cellphone and calling her father, Grillby. "Dad, it's me," she said on the phone. "It's about Chara. She was bullied today and she ran off. Frisk and I can't find her."

As this was going on, Frisk called her mother, who promised to be there at once. The child then called her father, hoping he wouldn't be too busy.

Asgore was in a meeting with the mayor. "All seems to be going well, Mayor," the king said.

"Yes," the mayor said with a smile. "No tensions, I hope?"

"For the most part, your town has accepted us, though there are a few that are rather...unsettled by us," Asgore said gently.

"They'll come around," the mayor said.

The goat king felt his cellphone vibrate. "Excuse me, someone is calling me," he excused himself before looking at his phone, a look of worry coming over his face when he saw who was calling him. "It's my daughter, Frisk."

"Go ahead and answer," the mayor said kindly.

Asgore answered the phone. "Frisk? Is everything alright, little one?" He asked.

"No, Dad," Frisk replied, her voice sad. "It's Chara. She got bullied and she ran off. Fuku and I looked all over for her, but we can't find her."

The king felt his spine stiffen at that. "She's not at the school?" He asked.

"No," his daughter said.

"Alright. You wait at the school. I'll go find her."

With that, he ended the call and stood up. "Mayor, I'm sorry to cut our meeting short, but my daughter, Chara, needs me right now," he said.

"Is she alright?" The mayor asked.

"I'm afraid she was the target of bullies," the king said before sighing. "Grillby took care of the bullies that had been chasing Asriel last week and earlier this week, Sans scared off the ones bothering Frisk."

"I'll go to the schools and see what I can do about the teachers handling the bullies," the mayor promised. "Go find your daughter."

"Thank you," the male goat said before he headed out, wondering where Chara could be.

At the school, Toriel and Grillby had arrived and were speaking to their daughters. Asriel, who had been talking to the principal, came out too. "We tried to stop them, Mom," he said tearfully.

"But those creeps wouldn't listen," Frisk said sadly.

"Was it the same ones that bullied you two for the past two weeks?" Grillby asked.

Fuku shook her head. "It was older kids," she said. "They were my age, Dad."

He sighed, recalling when he had had to deal with the bullies bothering her. Thankfully, the bullies got the message and left Fuku alone. "Looks like they thought if they couldn't go after Asriel or Frisk, they would go after Chara."

"I need to call Asgore," Toriel said.

"I already did, Mom. He said he'd go look for Chara," Frisk said.

"Oh, good," the goat woman said in relief.

Just then, the mayor walked in and he nodded to them all. "Greetings," he said before looking at the principal. "I was wondering what the school was going to do about the bullies harming a young girl?"

"Well, we have no proof it happened, Your Honor," said the principal.

"What?!" Asriel cried out. "I just told you everything!"

"There is still no proof," the principal said.

The mayor looked at the young goat child. "Asriel, correct?" He asked.

"Yes, sir," the boy said with a nod.

"Can you tell me who the boys were?"

"I don't know their names, sir, but I do know they go upstairs to the higher grades," Asriel admitted.

"If we went up there, could you point them out?" The mayor asked.

"Yes, sir."

"Oh, that's not necessary," the principal said before looking at Asriel. "You should know better than to waste the mayor's time."

Grillby felt his fire flare up and Toriel stood up, her fire starting to gather in her hands. The mayor held up a hand to them, which helped the two adult monsters to calm down a little. "If I ask to see the bullies that harmed my friend's daughter, then it is not a waste of my time," he said. "And as you refuse to do anything about it, then I'll have to bring in the superintendent."

"I'm here, Mr. Mayor," the superintendent of the schools said. "I came as soon as I got your call."

"Thank you," the mayor said as Asriel led them upstairs to see to the bullies.

Meanwhile, Asgore was looking around, having a hunch he knew where Chara was. He found a path in the woods and found fresh sneaker prints in the dirt. Following them, he came to a field of flowers that made the field look astounding. It was then that his ears picked up the sound of someone sobbing and he followed the sound, soon spotting his daughter curled up beside a rock, crying. "Chara," he said gently.

She looked up at hearing her father's voice and fresh tears sprang to her eyes as she got up and ran to her father, who caught her as she jumped at him. "Daddy," she whimpered.

"Shh, I'm here," he soothed, sitting on the rock and holding her in his lap, rubbing her back and rocking her to soothe her. She clung to him until she finally calmed down, looking up at him with teary eyes. "Oh, little one. What happened?" He asked.

She sniffled. "Some big kids came up to me and bullied me because of my eyes," she said. "They even called me horrible names."

Asgore sighed softly, saddened that Chara was bullied because of that. "I know how you feel," he said.

Chara sniffled again. "I can't help the way my eyes are," she said.

"No, you can't," he agreed before looking at her. "Chara, when I was your age, I was bullied too."

She looked up at him. "What?" She asked.

He nodded. "Despite me being a prince, I was mocked by some kids for my eyes," he said before lifting a hand and removing a couple of lenses from his eyes. Chara realized they were contacts as she knew some kids wore them and she looked up to see her father's eyes.

One was blue and the other was orange. She had no idea that her father had had different-colored eyes, but she liked them. "So, you wear contacts?" She asked.

"Yes," he said. "But only when I'm meeting important people. When I was younger, I had to face the bullies."

"How did you do that?" She asked.

He smiled. "I told them that it didn't matter what color my eyes were. I would be king one day and their words wouldn't matter to me," he said. "They were surprised and even more surprised when a female goat monster came up to us and defended me too."

Chara looked curious before it hit her. "Was it Mom?" She asked.

He nodded, chuckling. "It's what led her and I to be friends," he said. "She helped me to not let the bullies get me down about my eyes."

The child smiled and hugged her father, feeling better. "I love you, Daddy," she said.

"I love you too, little one," he said. "Do you feel better?"

She nodded. "Thank you for understanding," she said.

"A loving father will always understand, my little flower princess," he said with a smile. "Now come. Your mother is no doubt wondering where we are."

They arrived back at the school and the mayor smiled as he saw them. He looked at Chara. "Those boys won't trouble you again, young one," he said as Toriel hugged her daughter, who hugged her back.

"Thank you, my friend," Asgore said, his different-colored eyes in plain view.

The mayor didn't even flinch. "Anytime," he said.

The superintendent came up to the monster parents. "The children are excused for the rest of the day," he said with a smile. "I think they've been through enough for one day."

"Thank you, but what about their schoolwork?" Grillby asked.

"Today was actually a review day and I just reviewed the childrens' work. They're all caught up," the man said. "You all have a good day."

"Thank you," Toriel said. "Well then, let's get our munchkins home."

Asgore lifted Chara up onto his shoulders and she giggled, hugging her father happily, feeling better thanks to him.
