Chapter 1 – Finding a Nest
"I may be a gambling man, but I know there are some bets you just don't take," the caned criminal taunted.
Neo watched the cloaked girl dangle helplessly off the side of the large airship, supported by a single hand hanging onto her giant scythe. Bulky weapons like those never sat well with Neo as she personally preferred the simpler, daintier type, and larger weapons only made her think of them like a crutch. Without those large machines, the wielder was nothing, much like the dangling cockroach here that needed to be exterminated.
A blade popped out of Neo's laced umbrella as she dragged it across the metal of the airship. Playing with her prey's mind before striking made killing so much more satisfying. Her heels clicked on the ground with each step she took, and when she reached Ruby, the blade pointed dangerously close to the girl's face.
"Like it or not, the people that hired me are going to change the world," Roman Torchwick started, "You can't stop them. I can't stop them, but you know the old saying. If you can't beat them…"
It had happened so fast, and now Neo was flying away in a swarm of griffin grim. All she could do was gasp when the silver eyed brat reached up, dodging her stilled blade, and opened her umbrella, sending her flying off the airship. No. Neo's eyes were wide in panic as she looked back at the airship, Roman reaching out while calling her name. She heard nothing leave his mouth, but his eyes and motion spoke of panic. She fell deeper into the swarm of grim flying around, all of them ignoring the tiny woman floating under her umbrella. The only thing she could do now was look down and make sure she didn't die from the fall. For a moment, she closed her eyes and prayed, please be safe, Roman.
The falling sensation continued, but when Neo opened her eyes, they both turned white in fear. The swarm of grim disappeared in the wind, and the ground was closer than it should have been considering she was whipped off a ship that flew high in the sky. Below her were buildings unlike the style of Vale, and the streets weren't filled with high tech equipment like it should have been. Just before she floated into an alleyway behind a large living complex, Neo looked up to the sky, and her eyes widened at the full, uncracked moon. She wasn't in Remnant anymore.
Falling into a dumpster was the least of Neo's concerns at the moment, even though she smelled of rotting fish and molding vegetables. She was filthy, but at the very least, she was still alive, albeit in an unfamiliar area. Heaving herself out of the mess of black trash bags, Neo carefully walked towards a light that lit the street in front of her, laced umbrella secured defensively in her hand. The click of her heels stopped as she slowly poked a part of her head out of the alleyway, staying close to the brick wall of a large building. The streets were empty, void of any pedestrians, and the night sky only enveloped the city in a temporary darkness.
Neo wasn't stupid. She knew she wasn't in Remnant anymore. The technology here was significantly lacking in advancements, the buildings looked unlike anything she'd seen before, especially near Vale where she fell from the airship, and the most important difference was the moon was intact, every piece of it. The lack of human beings around her only made her more uneasy even if it was still nighttime. Knowing human beings existed would settle her a considerable amount, so she'd have to search, and the emptiness of the night would be a perfect cover.
So off she went down the dimly lit streets of this city, sticking closely to the walls of each building in case she needed to slip into the shadows of the alleyways. Everything suggested human civilization, streets for motor vehicles, lights to brighten the street, modern buildings. It had been a couple minutes until she was finally able to see solid proof, an ad in the window of a closed TV store. She wasn't happy with what she stumbled upon in any way, but at least she knew there were humans.
An unbelievably muscular man posed in the photo in a skintight suit. All Might, Japan's number one hero. A hero, how lovely. Maybe this world was closer to her own in some ways. Neo could only think how absolutely ridiculous this man looked with a beaming white smile and hair that stood up like two antennae, but she couldn't help but think about those words on the bottom of the poster, the Japan's number one hero. Japan. Number one. Hero. What was Japan?
Neo was ripped from her thoughts as a sound caught her attention in the back alleyway. She knew she shouldn't be curious at a time like this, but she couldn't help but find her legs moving into the dark shadowed walkway. The tiny woman's heels clicked slowly as the sound of shuffling slowed behind the corner, her back leaning against the wall closest to the noise. Hushed whispers made their way from behind the corner, and when silence over came the surroundings, a large stretched hand appeared in front of Neo, grabbing her tiny body and pulling it around the corner.
"Well, well, well. Looks like we've got ourselves a curious kitten," Neo followed the hand gripping her to the body of an ugly male with crooked yellow teeth and an uneven facial cut. His arm was stretched like rubber.
"She's quite the looker ain't she boss?" one of the three goons behind him snickered.
Neo stayed put, surveying the situation and surroundings while the four bickered about her. This semblance was certainly interesting as she had never seen one that extended their own body parts instead of manipulating their aura, but still, this place didn't seem as far fetched as it could have been. Naturally, anyone in her situation should be terrified at what was happening to her, but she was one of the most wanted criminals in Remnant. She was a real villain, and something like this was nothing more than an annoyance.
"Spacey too, isn't she? She's in a dangerous spot and is still spacing out. Must be hopped up on some drugs, eh?" another spoke.
"Maybe I'll just give her a little squeeze to wake her up," the main man grinned sadistically.
Neo activated her semblance and flipped out of his grip, a glass version still stuck in his hand, and when he squeezed as he promised, her illusion smashing into pieces. The four men were stunned for a second, staring at the glass on the ground before looking up to see Neo completely unharmed with an annoyed expression.
The main man laughed with dark excitement as he started to unbuckle his belt, "Oh, she's a fighter. Looks like tonight I'm becoming a real criminal. Get her."
A real criminal. Neo mused to herself at his words. These wannabes knew nothing of being a criminal if their now greatest achievement was trying to take her against her will. Her world was cruel, and she was one of the few that made it that way. Real criminals find a way to get what they want Roman always said, and right now, Neo wanted nothing more than these men dead. She pressed her blade out from her umbrella and smiled cockily as she watched the goons approach her. She was getting what she wanted.
"Are these the last of the low classed villains?" the pale slim man spoke with a bored tone, "This work is tedious and annoying."
"This is the last group that we need to recruit. They have four members with average quirks, nothing special, and their wanted for robbery and assault charges," the walking black mist spoke, "They should still be enough to hold off any heroes that try to intervene with our battle with All Might."
The pair walked deeper into the alleyway, expecting to meet the four low class villains at the end of the walkway, enclosed by the deepest darkness they could find in the city. As annoying as it was to round up these petty criminals, it was necessary for their plan to attack U.A High to succeed. As the two stepped closer however, they realized something wasn't exactly right with the scene in front of them. Instead of four men huddling together stood an extremely petite woman with long pink and brown hair. She turned to the newcomers, her umbrella dangling from her hand, blood dripping from the tip of the blade.
"Kurogiri," the man with hands covering his body spoke, "Were these the men?"
"Yes, they were," Kurogiri replied.
"She killed them."
"I can see that Shigaraki."
Both parties stared at one another, waiting for the other to make a move. The atmosphere wasn't tense as each party knew they could handle themselves in a fight, and the girl had proved that to the two that stood before her. They watched her continue to blink, her eye colors swapping occasionally. Her sure expression never faltered, and not for a single second did she bat an eye at the bodies she laid on the floor before her.
Shigaraki began to scratch his neck, flaking his dry skin off with each stroke. His four recruits were dead, so how could he end up finding replacements? He stopped scratching, staring into her heterochrome eyes that emulated cold hard villainous tendencies.
"Kurogiri, I want her to join us for the attack."
Hi! I thought I'd start a new story since this idea came to me when I was about to fall asleep. Guess who didn't end up sleeping.
Anyway, I hope you like this concept, and I hope Neo isn't too OOC. It's kinda hard to write her character since we don't know too much about her other than she can be cruel and sadistic but also graceful and confident.
Please let me know if I should change the rating. I don't know if this much "violence" is too much for Teen.
I'll keep this short! Thank you for reading!
