Prompt #24: "You're jealous, aren't you?" … "I'm not jealous!"

"I can't believe I let you talk me into this monkey suit!" Jay half whispered to Hailey as they were walking in the entrance.

"You make like you had a choice. What were you gonna come in jeans and a Henley?" she responds jokingly frustrated.

"NO!" He emphasizes to her and when he sees she barely believes him, he tries again. "No! Just you know I hate these kinds of things."

"I know, but let's just show our faces, make good use of the open bar, try to have some fun, and then we'll leave, two hours tops."

"Easy for you to say, this element suits you. You're beautiful! Whereas me, they can probably smell the Canaryville wafting off this over-priced suit."

"Stop phishing for a compliment. I already told you that you looked good!" she rolls her eyes at him.

Jay grins back. "That obvious, huh? C'mon, let's get this over with." He says as they make their way inside the banquet hall.

All of the Intelligence Unit, along with hundreds of police across Chicago was in attendance to sponsor a Police and Community Charity Ball. They had done it in years past too, but this is the first one in a while the team was able to attend all together. It was a huge event including all the big wigs and even the mayor. All proceeds would go to underprivileged youths in the community and working on assistance programs to break some out of gang life. Fortunately it wasn't a Black Tie affair, but to Jay's dismay it was still pretty fancy. After much arguing and resistance on his part, he finally caved to his partner and listened to her advice about buying a new suit. And while he hated to admit she was right, he did look good. Much better than his dusty, over-used court suit hanging in his closet.

Jay and Hailey made their way over to their table to join the rest of the team, grabbing champagne and hor d'oeuvres along the way. The girls, including even Trudy started fawning over each other about how nice they looked and how great this was to be all out and elegant; while the guys stared on looking less than thrilled at their fan-girling. Even Voight was groining.

"Women!" Adam exclaimed trying not to display his scoff too much.

"Shutup boys! Let us enjoy this. Not like I'll be invited to any weddings any time soon!" Trudy bites back, glaring at the men, but making sure to give a glance to the women of Intelligence too.

"I think that's our cue for the bar, don't you Ruz?" Kevin quickly turns to Adam as they slowly start backing away.

"Hold on, I'm coming with." Voight laughed, wanting to exit this conversation just as swiftly.

"Aww, look at Detective Halstead being a good sport and hanging back with the ladies!" Trudy jokes.

"My mother didn't raise me to be a complete idiot in the presence of beautiful ladies. Plus, Hailey would kill me if I went and did shots without her." Jay gives them a cocky smirk.

"He's not wrong!" Hailey says seriously and they all start laughing.

They hang at the table joking around for a while more when Jay decides to go grab him and Hailey stronger drinks. By the time he gets back Trudy, Kim, and Vanessa had decided to mingle with others they may know. He hands Hailey her drink as they smile at each other and share one of their secret stares. All of a sudden Jay notices Hailey looking over his shoulder in surprise, a huge grin forming on her face.

"Hailey Upton! As I live and breathe!" a deep and very masculine voice says from behind Jay, making the hairs on his neck stand up.

"Nooo! DEAN! Oh man, it's been years!" Hailey says excitedly as she brushes past Jay for whoever this guy is that envelops her in his arms.

"It has, and you've just gotten even better-looking with age!" Dean replies.

"Oh stop! You always were a flatterer. How are you?" Hailey laughs.

Did she just flick her hair over her shoulder? Jay wonders in shock. Suddenly he wishes he brought his gun with him because he has the sudden urge to kill.

"I'm good, I'm good! I actually just made sergeant not too long ago. Pretty crazy."

"I heard, congrats! You deserve it." Hailey gushes and Jay swears he sees red. He's about to cough and rudely interject himself when Hailey turns back to him.

"Dean, this is my partner, Jay Halstead. Jay, this is Dean Walker. He was my partner briefly when I got out of the academy. We were on the beat together for a bit until it became above him. Isn't that funny?"

Dean reaches out his hand to shake Jay's. And if Jay somehow squeezes too hard, so be it.

"Please, if anyone was too good for the beat it was you. You were undercover for your first major operation by what, 24? Your partner had drive, Jay. It's nice to meet you. I have to say I'm jealous, Upton is a catch to ride with."

Jay feels his jaw tick. "Yeah, I think so. Hailey's the best. Nice to meet you too!" he replies as he turns back to his drink and downs it without notice, then quickly grabbing a glass of wine from one of the waiter's trays passing by. He knows it's the only way he'll stop himself from possessively putting his arm around her. Not only was this guy barely 40 and a sergeant, but he was unnervingly good-looking too.

Matters didn't help when Kim, Vanessa, Kevin, and Adam all started making their way back to the table and Jay saw the girl's eyes bug out. Hailey introduced the rest of the team to Dean and he managed to get all the ladies undivided attention. Jay plopped in his seat at the table feeling glum as Adam and Kevin came up to him.

"Damn brother, he could make my underwear wet he's so hot." Ruzek joked, which Jay did not appreciate.

"Yeah, you may want to finally admit how you feel about her before he snatches that." Kevin hit him with his elbow.

Jay rolled his eyes and tried to ignore them. He was jealous, no doubt, but he knew something they didn't… he just kept trying to remind himself that. The dinners started to arrive and finally, finally Dean walked away and back to his table. When Hailey took her seat next to Jay she sensed that something was off with him, but didn't have much time to think about it as the whole team was starting to get tipsy and rowdy joking at the table. Jay picked at his steak, trying to relax again, but he was still on edge. Finally Hailey whispered to him, placing her hand on his knee.

"Hey, everything alright? You've been awfully quiet since Dean came over."

"Dean? What the hell kind of a name is Dean anyway?" he responded before he could catch himself from holding back.

"I imagine it has the same concept as Jay." Hailey teased.

"Very funny!" Jay scoffed.

Hailey studies him for a bit then her eyes light up like a bulb went off in her head. "Oh my God, wait… you're jealous, aren't you?"

"I'm not jealous!"

"Uh huh! So you wouldn't care at all if Dean asked me to dance?" she asks.

"I'd be completely carefree. You're allowed to make your own decisions, it's a free country. I trust you."

"Mhmm. Alright then. Because he already asked me and I told him no, but now I think I'll go tell him I changed my mind."

"Go right ahead." Jay shrugs and sips his drink nonchalantly as if he's not secretly boiling up inside.

"I will. Save my drink please." She says now that the waiters are clearing the tables for dessert.

Hailey throws her napkin on the table and Jay watches her head back over to Dean. Now completely alone at the table because the rest of his friends have either gone up to dance or grab more from the bar, he inhales deeply, wondering how he should play it. He's in no mood to get into a fight here and he knows that he and Hailey both agreed to never play games. He knows he's being a baby and just suffering from wounded male ego. It also hasn't helped that he's completely aware of how incredibly gorgeous Hailey looks in her dress, so he knows every man here probably wants her right now, including Dean. He huffs, over the sulking. He decides he's going to put an end to his doubts now and makes his way to the dance floor. He's relieved when he reaches Hailey and Dean and sees her keeping him at arm's length. Hailey notices him walking over and smirks as he taps Dean on the shoulder.

"May I cut in?" Jay asks politely, but gruff enough to show answering no is not an option.

"Of course! Hailey, let's grab coffee sometime and catch up. Jay, nice meeting you again." Dean nods and says as he walks away.

Jay wraps his arms around Hailey and pulls her close, grinning when she instantly wraps her arms around his neck, much closer than she was with Dean.

"Well that didn't take very long." She smiles up at him and rolls her eyes.

"What? I don't know what you're talking about… but for the sake of possibly admitting I was a little jealous, there's no way I'm letting you get coffee alone with him. He totally wants to sleep with you." He tries to put on his boyish face knowing she can't refuse it and hoping she won't disagree.

"Well, he should know there's only one person who gets to do that with me."

She whispers seductively, running her fingers along the hair on the back of his neck and then pulling him down to her lips. She kisses him long and slow giving him a chance to catch on. When they finally pull away they're both a little breathless.

He leans his forehead onto hers and asks, "What was that for? I thought you wanted to keep us a secret for a little longer?"

"Now Dean, and everyone else, knows I'm yours and only yours!" her dimples on full display as she quirks her lips up.

"Well in that case…" he grabs her face in his hands and kisses her deeply again, not caring that they're on full display for all to see.

In the background they can hear the hoots and hollers from their team. "Let's get out of here…" Jay says huskily against her mouth when they break again. He grabs her hand as they start walking out together, both waving off their friends.

"Huh, I guess you may end up getting that wedding after all, Trudy." Voight grins next to his longtime friend as they watch Jay and Hailey make their exit with giddy smiles on their faces.

Trudy smiles back in approval. "It's about damn time, Hank!"

"How much did you pay Walker to hit on her?" Voight asks.

"I promised him I'd swap one of our new squad cars with his district's old ones."

"Small price to pay." Voight shrugs.

"Yeah, but I fucked up, I think they were already together. Sneaky bastards. Now we're out of a car and I'll have to hear my officers' bitch to no end."

Voight has to have one of his rare crack ups for that. "Well, at least you got to watch them come clean in front of everyone. I know you'll never let them live it down."

"You're right, small price to pay!" Trudy grins, already ecstatic for Monday morning now.

[A/N: 2nd prompt for you guys, hope you enjoy it. This one was requested by "JediA," "Rvb92," and a couple "guests." Thanks so much for reading and participating! The list of prompts are at the bottom of the first chapter if anyone wants to request one. This one was fun for me and I would absolutely LOVE to see one of them jealous in the show. So hope this does justice!]
