This Feeling
A/N: This story takes place before the events of Frozen II
One of Elsa's favorite things to do since the gates reopened was to go for a stroll through town with Anna. When she first did it, she was very nervous. After all, she wasn't used to being around so many people. But overtime Elsa got used to it. Now her she was walking with her sister by her side to explore the many shops of Arendelle. When they got to the end of the street, they turned a corner to walk down another road. Even though she had walked through the town dozens of time by now, Elsa hadn't seen every shop. And with Anna with her, she was sure that she would eventually see everything. Up ahead was an antique store that caught Anna's attention. Before Elsa knew it, Anna darted for the door to the shop, pushing it open. Elsa followed behind her, smiling at how happy her sister looked when she ran inside. As she entered the shop, Elsa was met with a strong musty smell. All around her she saw antiques of all kinds. Some of which looked like they were hundreds of years old. Elsa found Anna looking at old furniture in the corner of the store. There were two wooden chairs, and a wooden table in the center. By the look on Anna's face, Elsa could tell that Anna was impressed.
"Wow! Look at this, Elsa! Aren't they beautiful!" Anna observed.
"Yes, they are. Excellent craftsmanship," Elsa agreed.
"I wonder what kind of wood they're made of," Anna said, running a hand across the table.
"Cherry wood," said a voice.
The sisters turned around to see a young man walking towards them. He had short brown hair with brown eyes. He was wearing an apron over his shirt, which was covered in dust. As he approached Anna and Elsa, he smiled.
"Your Majesty, Your Highness, thank you for coming to my antique store. If there is anything you need, please don't hesitate to ask. My name is Jon."
"Please to meet you, Jon!" Anna greeted. "You have a lovely store."
But Elsa didn't respond with a greeting. She was too transfixed by Jon's appearance and demeanor to do so. There was a weird feeling in her chest. It felt like a thousand fingers running up and down her body. However, it felt oddly pleasant. As she gazed at Jon, she admired his features. His smooth skin, his short brown hair, coupled with brown eyes. His muscular arms, most likely from lifting so many heavy objects. There was no doubt about it, he was a handsome man. But why was she feeling this way? She had seen many handsome men before in her life. More to the point, she had just met Jon. The feeling that Elsa had was one of strange elation. It warmed her from the inside out, but in a way that made her ticklish as well. Her heart was beating faster than normal too. What was it about this man that attracted her? No. Could she really be feeling attraction for the first time? It was impossible. Elsa had decided long ago that she wasn't interested in a relationship, so why was she suddenly feeling this strong sense of admiration for this young man who worked in an antique shop. Not wanting to dwell on it any longer, Elsa finally spoke.
"It's nice to meet you, Jon," she said. Her voice sounded nervous, but at least she said something.
"Likewise. I must say Queen Elsa, you're even more beautiful in person," Jon commented.
With this comment, the feeling intensified inside Elsa. Now a wave of goosebumps overtook her, sending shivers throughout her body. But once again, it felt very pleasant. There had been many men who had complimented her on her beauty before, but when Jon said it, something about it seemed special.
Without wanting to return to this enchanting feeling, Elsa left to go outside, needing to take in some fresh air. Anna joined her shortly after.
"Hey Elsa! Is anything wrong?" Anna asked.
"I just needed some fresh air, that's all," Elsa said. "It was pretty musty in there."
"Yeah, it was. But they have a lot of nice things! We should go back sometime," Anna suggested.
Instantly remembering that feeling she had when she saw Jon, Elsa froze in place. There was no denying what that feeling was: it was…affection. She actually felt attracted to a man. As impossible as it seemed, it was true. At that moment, Elsa remembered the mantra that her father taught her: conceal, don't feel. Maybe this was one of those rare times that she should obey that rule. Elsa knew that love was the key to controlling her powers, but she always thought that it was only her love for Anna. Could loving someone else be possible for her? What was she thinking? She had only just met this man. There was no way there could be anything between them. At this she was reminded of Anna when she told her that Hans was her true love. Was this how Anna felt? Of course, she knew that Hans wasn't Anna's true love, especially what he did to her. But this feeling of affection was strong. Even though she knew that Jon wasn't her true love, nor any man was as far as she was concerned, she had to admit that it was an enjoyable feeling. One that she never thought she'd experience in her lifetime. With that, Elsa walked back into the store, where she found Jon hanging an old clock.
As she stood in front of him, Elsa said, "You have a very nice store, Jon."
"Thank you, Queen Elsa. I hope to see you again sometime," Jon replied.
"I'm sure you will," Elsa said.
After leaving the store, Anna led Elsa back to the castle, where she talked to the chefs about preparing lunch for them. Meanwhile, Elsa stood in the parlor, looking at their own wooden table. She smiled as she stared at it.
"Very nice indeed," she said.
