It was a normal Tuesday down at headquarters. Lin was a sargent now, working on a homicide case. She knocked on the chiefs office to debrief her on what she had found.

Without a sound, the door opened and Lin saw her mothers hand waving her in. She was listening to her assistant read her arrest reports. Before Lin could get a word out, her mother pause and looked towards her daughter with a deadpan expression.

"Why didn't you tell me you're pregnant?" Toph scoffed at her daughter.

"Cause I'm not?" Lin placed a hand on her stomach.

"Then your seismic training needs some work, honey. You've got two heartbeats." She went back to discussing reports with her assistant.

Lin closed her eyes and felt her abdomen with both hands.

thump, thump

Her eyes widened. It was faint, but unmistakably there.

"Uh, I gotta go." Lin swung around and out of the door. She pushed around the spread of people at headquarters and didn't stop until she was outside.

Lin ran down a few blocks before stopping to catch her breath. She gripped her legs just above her knees while she was bent over, panting.

"Fuck" Lin whispered. She didn't even mean for the sentiment to slip out. Her chest tightened and a twist formed in her stomach. "OH!" Lin ran to the nearest trash bin on the street and gave it the contents of her stomach. She paused and groaned before lifting her head, grateful that she wore her hair up today. There were a few people that stopped and noticed her violent street puking, but Lin was too distracted to notice.

"I can't do this! I can't do this!"

Lin rubbed her palm across her torso.

"God, Tenzin will be thrilled."

She blushed and pressed her hand to her cheek. The thought of telling Tenzin gave her a huge wave of happiness, excitement, then anxiety, and terror.

"Oh spirits I can't have a baby?! How am I supposed to become chief in 3 years if I have a kid!?"

Lin kept walking towards her flat.

"Well mom did it. And she did it without a partner. Can't say much about her parenting skills though."

Her mind kept flip flopping in this argument.

"I should see Katara. Make sure everything's okay. She would be elated. The world would be thrilled! The potential for another airbender."

Lin beamed at that thought and walked up the stairs to her home.

She wasn't expecting to see Tenzin sitting on their couch. He was reading the paper, a hot cup of tea in front of him.

"Lin? What are you doing home so early?" He put his paper down and walked over to embrace his girlfriend.

Lin didn't speak right away, but she welcomed his hold on her.

After a beat, she could tell his pulse was escalated with worry and decided to break the silence. Her bold green eyes looked up with an expectant expression that Tenzin had never seen on her.

"I'm pregnant."
