The light of the full moon filter through the treetops of the forest that led to Castle Weasley. The ancestral home of the Weasley clan of the Scottish Highlands. Long had Weasley's of old lived in these ancient halls. One could still hear the sounds of many mirthful feasts being held in grand Great Hall if they stopped and listened long enough.

Charlie was on his way to the ancestral home of his family because that is where his mother insisted that his youngest sibling, Ginny, get married to her fiancee Harry. He was happy for Ginny and Harry. He truly was but at the same time, he felt bitter loneliness that grew ever brighter as the day of the upcoming nuptials grew closer. That was why he insisted upon coming here ahead of time. By himself. He didn't want to make things any stranger or tense than they already were.

But as Charlie was about to experience, things have a way of getting stranger still all by themselves. For as he continued on his way through the forest passing things he knew from his younger years when his parents would bring him on visits, a noise met his ears.

The noise was not an unpleasing one. It was very pleasant and made him want to delight at the sound of it. He could feel an unexpected happiness rise in his chest just from the very sound of the lively music coming through the tree. He wanted to follow the music and see where it would lead him.

"Mum's going to kill you if you get lost," he reminded himself, trying to block out the sounds of the music that beckoned him to come dance to it. He'd heard tales of the people who had heard such music and followed it. Some returned looking as though no time had passed between them going missing and their return. Others, mostly attractive young males and females, never returned from the music's grasp at all.

He was just about to leave the forest canopy when he heard a voice accompanying the music. The voice was soft and sweet and crisp and clear. The beautiful masculine voice he'd ever heard. The song the voice was singing spoke of longing and wistfulness. The very words stretching out and touching Charlie's soul with their beauty and poetry.

"Deep in forest green and hale," sang the voice, the words seeming almost like a spell to Charlie. "A young lad came across my trail. His noble frame and qualities bespoke him of good company."

Charlie got a glimpse of fair hair through the gaps in the leafy canopy that separated the singer and himself. His pale face was partially hidden by the leaves of the comfortable trees making Charlie want to see what this stranger looked like.

"Come dance with me," the singer sang, imploring with his song and making Charlie feel like he was in a trance, "my sweet young love. Come dance for me forever. We'll live and love under the trees in a world built of forever."

The music played on and he could hear several voices pick up the refrain of the song. Imploring the original singer's young love to come dance with them forever. Something very insistent was screaming at him not to listen. As though he'd been told something about songs such as this but was searching for what that something could be.

"Come dance with me, my sweet young love," sang the original singer from closer than he'd originally been. "Come dance with me forever. We'll sing and dance in a world of love. We'll live and love forever."

Charlie could hear giggles as though from children, although he was pretty sure there weren't any out in the woods at this time of night. A story that someone had told him once was threatening to break through the spell but the singer's voice broke through again loud and clear and beautiful, blocking out anything else that would make Charlie stop listening to it.

"Come love with me, my sweet young prince," It sang lust filling it voice this time and making something primal in Charlie's being want to follow it. "Come love and lust forever. I'll make you happy as can be in our beautiful kingdom of forever."

Charlie found his feet turning from his current path of their own accord. The compelling sound of the song and the need to see the owner of the beautiful voice that was singing had won out over getting to the safety of Castle Weasley.

"Come be mine, my sweet young prince," the singer sang from up ahead as the walked further and further into the forest. "Come and be mine forever. I'll love until the day is gone and the world goes to never. I'll love long and I'll you true and I'll love you forever. We'll live under our setting sun in our world of forever."

Images began to flutter through Charlie's mind of living with this unknown fair-haired beauty with the voice of an angel. He could felt an inherent need to kiss those lips from which dripped the honied words of their song. He felt a need to grip this unknown being close and never let them go.

"Just up ahead our destiny lies," sand the voice jauntily. "Will it be together? Will, you chose to live and die in our world of forever? My love for you is strong and sure. The sweetest of the pure. As strong as iron or leather. Please stop me from wondering about all the whethers. Tell me now and tell me true. Can we be together? Can we live and love until the world is gone in this kingdom of forever?"

"We can," Charlie croaked, wishing he hadn't spoken at all.

He could hear the murmurs of the group that was beyond the treeline but he had eyes for only one being. The owner of the beautiful voice that had been singing to him. The one that had called him his sweet young love.

Standing before him in the light of the full moon that bathed down upon them through the gaps in the trees was one of the most beautiful creatures that Charlie had ever seen. His fair hair was styled in a way that made Charlie think of someone who thought they knew humans would style their hair. It wasn't a bad looking style but Charlie figured that he could show the man a thing or two about hair. The soft sheen of his hair begging for Charlie to run his fingers through it. The twinkling green-grey eyes spoke of the knowledge of someone who was much older than they looked.

"I'm glad you could join us," the man said, holding out his arm for Charlie to take as though the redhead was a woman who needed an escort. "Would you care to come with me, my sweet young love?"

Charlie could feel his cheeks heat to a pink which most would consider pretty on his features. He reached out and took the arm that was being offered to him. A voice in the back of his mind was trying to make him see that this was not a good idea but the angelic man in front of him was smiling encouragingly.

"How do you know me?" Charlie found himself asking, wishing that he would just think about what he was saying before opening his mouth. "I mean...um...I think I would remember meeting someone as handsome and good looking as you are before now. Have we met before?" Before he could be construed as a horrible guest he quickly fired off a compliment. His mother had always told him it was proper to compliment someone when you were being led into their home. "You have a very beautiful singing voice."

"Thank you, my love," the man said, lacing his fingers through Charlie's own as though claiming him as a prize. "I've known and watched you for some time now, Charlie. When you used to visit your grandparents in Castle Weasley."

His grandparents? That was the voice that was trying to stop him, he just couldn't focus on the words of what they were saying. Not with that voice floating to him on the breeze the way it was. Not with those eyes gazing at him the way they were. As though he was the only being around for miles and the most attractive at that.

"You probably don't remember me," the man said, smiling and revealing gleaming pearly white teeth that shined like a beacon. "Mayhaps my name will help bring back memories of us? Theo. Theodore of Nott's Landing."

He'd heard that name somewhere before but he was pretty sure that it hadn't been said in kind connotations. He didn't understand why. He couldn't find anything horrible about Theo. Theo seemed perfectly charming in a delightful way.

"Come, my love, join the feast at my side if you please," Theo said, smiling at him in a way that made Charlie's whole body tingle. Theo must have known that his smile was having this reaction too because soon he looked like the cat that had eaten the canary. "You haven't truly answered my question though. From the song."

"I believe that I said we could," Charlie said, sitting in the chair next to Theo. He heard the crowd murmuring as the feasting and dancing continued. He could feel the eyes of the crowd upon both himself and Theo. "What are they all looking at?"

"Their future king and if you agree, their future...I don't know what they'd called you," Theo said with a chuckle. "The only other king of the fair folk that I've known was my father and he's chosen quite a different mate than what I have."

"What?" Charlie asked, trying not to sound troubled by the information that he'd just been told. After all, he had been raised most of his life to believe that men couldn't bear children of their own, and yet now Theo was telling him something different entirely.

"I know that it is a lot to take in," Theo said, putting a hand on Charlie's own. The heat adding to the tingling mess that Charlie was at the moment. "But as I have said in the song, I have loved you forever and will continue to do so. If you chose to remain here with us or not." He smiled reassuringly at Charlie. "But for now, my love," he said, kissing the knuckles of Charlie's hand, "let us feast and dance and love until we've had our fill. Shall we?"

Charlie knew he should say no. He doesn't know how he knows he should have said no. He just knows. But he can't make himself say the words. All he can do is nod his head and allow himself to be pulled into the hedonistic dance of the people that he'd been brought to.

He feels Theo's hand on him and soon his lips join the fray. Soon Charlie doesn't know which end is up and which is down. He's lost himself in something that he doesn't quite understand. But there is one thing he knows. He doesn't feel lonely anymore and that is something that he has been wanting for quite some time now.

"Come dance with me, my sweet young love," Theo croons to him holding out his hand which Charlie willingly takes. "Come dance with me forever. A dance of love and sweetest pain. A dance only for lovers."

Charlie allows himself to be swallowed up by the ecstasy that he is feeling. Delighted that he is finally loved by someone. He feels himself being pulled towards a bed in Theo's room and that is the last thing he remembers of that night.

Castle Weasley - 4 months later

"He should have been here months ago," cried Molly Weasley upon seeing that her second oldest son wasn't at the ancestral home of the Weasley family. "I do hope that no harm has befallen him."

"Befallen who?" asked a voice at the door.

Molly turned toward the door to find one of the vendors for Ginny's wedding standing in the doorway. He was a lean man with hard muscles and tanned skin that looked a dark than a normal tan. His intelligent dark eyes studied her worried face.

"My second eldest son hasn't arrived yet," Molly said warily, watching the man's face for any sign that perhaps Charlie was here and had been all along. "He traveled through the forest on the edge of the property about four months ago."

The man's face registered alarm, something that didn't help much with the sinking feeling that something was wrong that Molly was experiencing. "Four months ago?" the asked as though confirming something he'd already known.

Molly nodded. "He said he didn't want to bring everyone else's mood down in the wedding party," she told the man, wondering why he looked so worried. "That it would be better if he came a little bit early and stayed at Castle Weasley. Why do you ask?"

"Have you heard the legend of Fairy Kingdom of Nott's Landing?" the man asked the troubled look still on his face.

"Fairy kingdom," Molly snorted. "That's just a fairy story that parents tell children to get them to do their chores and not put up a fuss. Fairies aren't real."

"They are as real as you and I, Mrs. Weasley," the man, whose name was Blaise if she remembered correctly. "Now have you heard the legends of the Nott's Landing fairies or not?"

Molly remembered legends of many fae folks from the area but she'd never heard of any Nott's Landing fairies. She shook her head, a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. This was, after all, Arthur's family's ancestral home. He would be the one to know about all the legends and whatnot.

"Ah, Molly," Arthur said, walking into the kitchen and placing a kiss on her forehead, "Is everything alright? You seem a bit distressed."

"It's Charlie," Molly said, looking between her husband and Blaise. "He's gone missing or I should say he's been missing for about four months and no one seems to know where he is. I asked this fellow here and he only spouted some nonsense about fairies and Nott's Landing fairies being different or some such nonsense."

Arthur's face had paled completely as Molly watched. "It's not nonsense, Molly," he said, sounding like a man about to be executed. "Especially not the Nott's Landing fairies."

"Arthur, have you gone mad?"

"He's not gone mad," Blaise said, taking over the explanation. "He's speaking from experience with them. Same as I am. You've heard how fairies lure folks off their path and take them to their kingdom to keep as slaves mostly. The Nott's Landing bunch are a completely different ball of wax."

"He's right, Molly, dear," Arthur said, wiping a hand over his brow as though he was sweating. "Charlie wouldn't be foolish to get involved with that lot though. I'm sure of it."

"See that's the problem," Blaise said, looking at his feet as the memories of his time with the Nott's Landing fairies seemed to play before his eyes. "They don't give you a choice in the matter, as you would well know if you had dealings with them before. They lead their prey off the road by using song to ensnare them. Songs that usually promise their victims their heart's desire."

Molly's eyes widened because she had heard of a legend about this particular group of fairies. "They also pass mates down the family line, don't they?" she asked. "I'd heard of that."

Arthur let out a soft curse and looked anywhere but at his wife and this perfect stranger that was going to overhear the next part of the conversation. He took in deep breath, face going as red as a tomato. As he released his breath he once more looked at his wife and took her hands in his own.

"I'd told you about what happened with my older brother, hadn't I?" he asked, looking sheepish and like he'd rather not be speaking of the matter again. "How the fairy king of Nott's Landing took him for mate after luring him from our home?"

"No," Molly said, feeling her anger begin to rise. How could he not tell her something as important as this? "You seemed to have left that part out of any conversation that we've ever had."

"It's not something the family enjoys talking about. But as you pointed out those folk pass mates down the line. It usually meant that offspring ended up marrying offspring. But my brother and Theodore then the king only had one child before my brother died in childbirth. The child was named Theo."

"What are you saying?" Molly snarled at Arthur.

"What I'm saying is that before he died, my brother and his mate...husband...whatever you want to call them wrote to me," Arthur told him. "They asked if I wouldn't mind one of my children marrying their son. After all, Theo's mate had to be someone blood related to his father's mate."

"Arthur, you didn't?"

"I'm sorry. They wouldn't take no for an answer and by the time we stopped sending the children here to visit I found out that Charlie had already been marked."

"Marked?"

"As young Theo's given mate. It's up to Charlie if it becomes more than that."

Nott's Landing - The Palace of King Theo I

"My son," King Theo said, watching Theo practically skip into the room. He'd seemed happier than he'd ever been once his given mate was by his side. The two seemed inseparable which was a good thing. That would make the choice easier on this Weasley boy than it had been on his own mate. "How are things between yourself and Charlie?"

"Fine," Theo said, sitting at the table and looking longingly at the empty seat that was Charlie's. "He seems a bit sad though. As though he's missing something that he just doesn't understand or know he's missing."

"Then you must make him forget what he's missing. Give him what he wants and make him stop thinking about what he doesn't have."

"How do I figure out what he wants, father? When he's sad like this he doesn't talk about what he wants. He just sits around in a daze almost."

"Figure it out! You know what happens if you don't."

Theo watched his father storm off and wished he'd known what he'd done to upset the balance of things. Things had been very nice indeed when Charlie had first gotten here. He'd had all the company he could ever want and then some. And they'd both been very happy in every way that a person could be. What had gone wrong?

"Theo," Charlie's voice broke him from his thoughts, "I've been looking for you all over. Where have you been?"

"Just talking to my father," Theo said, noticing the sad look in Charlie's eyes at the mention of the word father. "What's wrong, Charlie? Please tell me. I can't help you if you won't, my love. You know I would do anything to make you happy."

"Anything?"

"Anything."

"I want to go to my sister's wedding. She's been planning it for as long as I can remember and she'd be sad if I wasn't there."

"Is that all?" Theo let out a laugh of relief that he hadn't done something wrong himself. "I believe that can be arranged."

"Only if you come with me?"

"You want me to go to your sister's wedding with you?" Theo felt his mouth fly open flabbergasted as he watched his mate nod. "As a guest or something else?"

"I was hoping that it could possibly be something more," Charlie said, winking seductively at Theo before popping a grape in his mouth.

"It's a date," Theo said, watching the younger being walk of the Great Hall. He had so much to learn of this Weasley man.

Neither of them knew just how much more they had to learn about themselves or their relationship. Let alone the origins of it. But everything could soon be forced to the limelight as the preparations for Ginny's wedding ramped up to a fever pitch.

I hope you all enjoyed the first chapter of The Legend of Nott's Landing as much as I enjoyed writing it.
