AN: Aloha! I had this idea many many months ago and I was almost done with 5 entire chapters, but somehow I got stuck and didn't continue/work it out until now.

Please keep in mind that I am neither a cop nor a psychologist nor a doctor. I am basing this story entirely on my knowledge (knowledge I have gained watching whodunits) and on the research I have conducted. I hope that it is mostly accurate and if not, please let me know!

This story is set somewhere in season five. After Catherine found Najib, she returned to O'ahu and continued working for Five-O. 3 months have passed ever since Catherine returned and Steve and Catherine couldn't be happier. I guess that's pretty much all you need to know to understand this story. I hope you enjoy this story..it definitely wasn't easy to write.

McGarrett/Rollins home, 1251 hours

Inside of Steve's kitchen, Catherine was dancing effortlessly to the soft indie music that was sounding through the radio. She didn't exactly move her hips in sync with every beat, but that didn't matter. At least not to her. She just moved her body to the music in a way that felt right. The scent of lasagna was dangling in the air mixed with a whiff of salt coming from the ocean, as she twirled around, clapped her hands to the beat and even quietly sung along.

Outside on the patio the birds were chirping happily. She had placed the wooden table on the middle of the porch, she had thrown over a white table cloth with lace hem and was now smoothly managing to balance two plates and the cutlery in her right hand all while moving her body and humming to the music. Then, she placed a small candle between the two plates and smiled to herself when she was done. Though she definitely wasn't the most romantic person, sometimes, but just sometimes, she loved all that corny stuff. And as much as she liked their main dish, namely take-out, she really enjoyed cooking every once in a while too. And she liked it even more when they had some time to themselves. Sure, she saw him everyday at work, but that was different. She loved the evenings after work, where they would have a nice dinner, enjoy each other's company and talk or make love.

When she returned to the kitchen, she grabbed a jar of cookies from one of the shelfs - she had developed a bittersweet craving for her grandma's chocolate chip cookies. Those were the best damn biscuits she had ever eaten. Catherine sighed in satisfaction, when she took a bite. It was in those moments that she missed her grandmother the most. Sure, she was an excellent cook herself, but her grandma was just top notch. Totally lost in her thoughts, she gnawed on the cookie, when her phone started ringing.

She groaned in frustration. "Hello?" Her reply came out kind of muffled, since she still had some of that cookie left in her mouth.

"Cath?" she heard his voice at the other end of the line.

"Please don't tell me you are calling to raincheck?" Catherine asked, trying not to sound too disappointed. She had spent the last hour in the kitchen, preparing a nice meal for the two of them and she was really looking forward to finally be spending some time with him again. The past few weeks they had been pretty busy with one major case after the other and barely had had time to spend the evening at home. It was their job and they both loved what they were doing, but they sure missed spending time together - just the two of them.

"No, no, I told you this morning Cath. I took the afternoon off and you will have me all to yourself." he said and she could almost see him grin through the phone, causing her to smile, too.

"So, I am the lucky one?" she asked teasingly, as she sat down on one of the chairs in his kitchen and stared out the window. "When I am the one who has been doing all the work? I am sorry to break it to you, sailor, but I don't see your calculation adding up."

"Well, I guess I have to repay my beautiful girlfriend then." he replied and since they were both very much aware what kind of repayment he was talking about, she couldn't help but chuckle, "Flattery won't get you anywhere, Commander." she told him.

Somehow it still sounded somewhat foreign to hear him call her his girlfriend now. For a long time, actually for the better half of their relationship, they had never used any kind of labels, they had never really defined what exactly they were. That had been pretty much all their jobs had allowed anyway and they had been okay with that, for a really long time. Because even though they had never been exclusive, they had always been committed to each other. They had always felt love towards one another. But ever since she had come back from Afghanistan, they were officially labeling themselves as a couple for the very first time. Sure, they were still far away from what most people would consider an 'average couple' - as their dates were mostly happening at shooting ranges or consisted of playing paintball - but that didn't bother either one of them in the slightest.

"We will see about that." he stated, totally convinced of himself and his effect on her. "How are you feeling? Better than this morning?" he added softly and a small smile broke on her face.

She had been nauseous in the morning and somehow he had managed to convince her to stay at home today - something that admittedly wasn't that easy. "Yeah, I am." she replied truthfully, "But I would feel a lot better if you would actually get your ass here soon. The food should be ready in 5 minutes."

"Ay-ay ma'am, I will be there in 15."

"See you then, sailor."

Catherine was sitting on the couch, the cookie jar by her side was almost empty. By now she had exchanged her PJs for a black skirt, which fit slightly tighter now than it had the last time she had worn it, and a white blouse that complimented her chocolate brown eyes. The outfit was hugging her feminine figure perfectly and in her opinion she looked quite good in it. Though she definitely didn't dress for Steve nor any other man for that matter, she really enjoyed sweeping him off his feet every once in a while. And after all this was going to be a pretty special evening. She chuckled softly at that thought, before she checked her cell phone once again.

A part of her still expected him to call and raincheck, maybe because there was some crazy-ass sociopath that was threatening to fire a bomb or some important murder case that needed his immediate attention. She knew how dedicated he was to his work and it had always been one of the things she loved the most about him, but it was also one of the things she found the most frustrating. But so far nothing - no text, no call.

The TV was running, she had turned it on to pass some time, but she barely noticed what was happening. If you had asked her what the film was about she probably wouldn't have been able to tell you, since her mind kept drifting and she couldn't seem to concentrate. She checked her wrist watch again. Steve should have been here 30 minutes ago. And the fact that he was neither calling her nor answering his cell didn't exactly ease her worries.

After another 15 minutes, she just couldn't ignore the feeling that something was wrong anymore. She turned off the TV and got up on her feet, her phone in her hand, she started pacing up and down in the living room. She was used to worrying about him, that was just something that had always been a part of their job description, back in the Navy, as well as now with Five-O, but this felt different. The feeling that something was terribly wrong was almost overwhelming and when Steve still didn't pick up, she decided to call Danny, hoping that there was an easy explanation for everything.

"Catherine? What's up? Everything okay?" Danny asked. He obviously didn't expect to hear from her today, after all he was fully aware that Steve had taken the afternoon off to spend some time with Catherine after the busy weeks they had had.

"I..I just wanted to ask if Steve is still at the HQ? I have been trying to call him, but he doesn't answer and -" Catherine started explaining. She hated that she was calling Danny to check up on Steve, but her gut told her that something was wrong. And most of the times her gut was right. She just hoped that this would be an exception.

"No, uhm, he left about 40 minutes ago..why? Isn't he home yet?" Danny asked, concern bubbling up inside of him. Steve couldn't wait to return home to his girl ever since he had come into work this morning. He hated leaving her alone and sick at home in the first place, but they had been close to wrapping up an important case and she had insisted that she would be fine.

"No, Danny, he hasn't. I am a little worried." Catherine admitted and suddenly the nausea was back. Faintly, she could hear Danny call for Chin and Kono, as she tried to keep it together - not that there was much she could do against the nausea.

"Hey Catherine, you still there?" she could hear Danny's voice sound through the phone, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah..uh, I am still here. I am fine." she replied, after splashing her face with water.

"Okay.." Danny replied and she knew that he didn't really believe her. "Anyway, we traced his cellphone and according to our map he is halfway between the beach house and the HQ." Kono took over and Catherine gratefully accepted the change of subject.

She sighed, as she let herself fall on the toilet lid, still feeling a little queasy. "Okay, so he is on his way?" Catherine asked, suddenly feeling really bad for snooping around just because he was a little late.

"Well, that's the thing; he isn't moving. Or his cell isn't moving." Chin said slowly.

"Send me the address, I will meet you there." Catherine said and hung up before anyone could try to reason with her. Why didn't she give into that bad feeling a little bit earlier? Maybe they could be laughing about her overprotectiveness together now.

McGarrett's location according to his cell, 1357 hours

When Catherine arrived at the address Chin had sent her, the rest of the team was already there. She spotted Chin talking to Duke, Kono with Eric and Lou and Danny, who were obviously engrossed in a rather heated conversation. And she didn't like the looks on their faces at all. Something was very wrong.

"What's going on, Chin?" she asked him, as she slipped under the banner, which was stating that this was a crime scene. Chin motioned her to follow him and that was when she spotted his car. Steve's blue silverado. It seemed like he had just parked here, but the scratches on the back of the car told a different story: he must have been forced off the street. Had he been in an accident?

"Is he alright? Where is he? What is going on?" Catherine asked, trying to stay as calm as possible, as she hectically scanned the area with her eyes hoping to find him. She knew that he probably wasn't here, because that would have been good news and Chin would have told her those immediately.

"Cath, hey." Danny said, using the nickname that normally only Steve used. He eyed her, almost with pity, and in that moment she knew that something was terribly wrong and she just wished to wake up from this nightmare. This couldn't be happening. Danny took a few steps in her direction, "Look, uhm, we don't know anything for sure yet..but it looks like he was abducted."

"What?" she pressed out, trying to make sense of Danny's words. She felt like someone punched her in the gut and her already upset stomach now turned to water.

"Hey, don't worry, we will find him." Danny added with a soft nod, before pulling her in for a short hug, "And you of all people know how well he can deal with a situation like this."

Catherine squeezed his arm as a way of thanking him for the reaffirming words, "Okay, so what do we got?" she asked and took a deep breath. As much as she felt like breaking down and crying she knew she had stay strong. For herself, for him, for them.

"As far as we can tell, he was forced out of his car and outmanned by the kidnappers. The glovebox is open and his gun is lurking out, so maybe he tried to reach for his gun, but wasn't fast enough." Chin told her, as she made her way to the car to look for any kind of evidence pointing to where he might be. His phone was rested on the passengers seat, the display was announcing several missed calls from her as well as from Danny.

"That means that this was a professional and planned hit and that there must have been a few people involved..I mean to take out someone like our SuperSEAL." Danny joked, in an attempt to lighten the mood a little, but Lou just shot him one of his 'shut-up' glances.

Catherine didn't even hear him, as she continued to check the inside of the car that had become so familiar to her. She couldn't spot anything out of the usual, aside from the bottle of wine that was resting next to his phone. It was her favorite and she couldn't help but smile at the sweet gesture, as tears began to form in her eyes.

"Good news is there aren't any traces of blood besides one small slodge next to his car, which is probably a result of Steve fighting back. If we are lucky, Steve hit one of his abductors and we can match his DNA to someone." Kono added. She knew how strong Steve was, but that didn't stop her from worrying about him. Because even he didn't have magical superpowers that made him immune to a bullet. And she also knew that they all felt the same way.

Catherine fought the tears for a few more seconds, before sticking her head out of the car and turning towards her colleagues and friends. "Okay..yeah..that's good..I guess.." Catherine replied and straightened her position, "Okay, so where do we start?"

"Eric is already checking the blood for a DNA-match in our database and Fong is trying to trace the car-modell that could have created these scratches. And Duke already sent a few of his officers to talk to the neighbors, maybe someone saw something." Lou updated her. Unfortunately for them this wasn't the best neighborhood, so even if someone saw something the chances were pretty low that they would coorperate with the police.

"Is there any CCTV close to this street?" Catherine asked, rubbing her temples in an attempt to keep her head clear. Images of past abductions, where Steve had been brutally tortured were floating her mind.

"Yeah, but what are we looking for? I mean we would have to wait for one of the neighbors to give us a closer description on the car." Lou replied and for a moment they were all lost in their own thoughts, almost as if they were waiting for someone to tell them to wake up from what felt like the beginning of a nightmare.

"Detective Williams! Detective Williams!" Officer Pau exclaimed as he made his way to the Five-O members.

"Officer Pau, what do you got?" Danny asked the younger officer, hoping that it was good news.

"I just talked to one of the residents and she couldn't tell me anything, but she has cameras on her property, which are partly facing the street." Pau told them out of breath, as he finally came to an halt next to Lou.

"Thank you, that's good work, thank you." Danny replied gratefully, "Chin, get a hold of those tapes. Kono, you and Lou check Steve's phone for any unusual activity. Maybe the kidnappers hacked it or something..can you figure out if they hacked it?" They all nodded agreeingly, because they were more than happy to have leads to follow and were very willing to work through the whole night if that was what it would take to bring Steve home. Danny continued: "Cath, we head back to the beach house and set up a few things, in case they call with a ransom demand."

"No, Danny, there has gotta be something else I can do, because I sure as hell won't sit at home and just wait for someone to call, when you and I both know that that call isn't going to come." Catherine argued determined.

"Nobody said anything about waiting. We help the officers set up a few things, then we head back to the HQ and stop by the forensics. There isn't much else we can do right now anyway." Danny replied and Kono added: "You know, Catherine, they wanted Steve alive. If they wanted him dead, he would be..so I think for now we can be sure that he is still alive. So, who knows, maybe these people are gonna call. And...it gives you two some time to clear your heads and see this from another perspective. Maybe you will find something we would otherwise miss."

Catherine wanted to argue that there had to be something else she could do, but she had to ackowledge that they had a point. "Okay, Let's go. Call us as soon as you got something!"

"Promise." Kono agreed and flashed her friend a small smile, which Catherine gratefully returned.

Undisclosed location, around the same time

Steve was slowly regaining consciousness and tried to remember what had happened, when it all came back to him. He had been pulled aside by a black VAN and forced out of the car by five disguised men. He had tried to escape and probably broke one of those guys' noses in the process, before one of them had covered his mouth with a small blanket soaked in chloroform.

He was still in a car, probably still in the same one, since he had been in and out of consciousness for about an hour. He couldn't make out any traffic and it didn't sound like they were driving on asphalt. So they were probably heading out of the city, what actually made sense.

When he tried to figure out why he was in this situation, his thoughts wandered to Catherine and a small smile formed on his lips. He could be at home now, enjoying dinner with her, he could tell her how much he loved her and they could talk and make love and then fall asleep in each other's arms. He had been looking forward to that the whole day and was actually really pissed that these guys had robbed him of a relaxing day with his girlfriend. He just hoped that she was safe and that he would see her again.

He slowly opened his eyes just to stare into the face of one of the disguised men, "Good morning sunshine." the guy said and the last thing Steve saw was the sole of the man's shoe, before everything turned black again.
