Prologue

Sonya dressed in her finest fabrics and prepared herself with a wedding. Her red hair flows down like the waterfalls.

Who was she to be married you asked?

Well, it was not the man she wished to be married at all.

Flashback

Her people are called Rus.

They are kins to the Vikings of the North.

Sonya was the only daughter of a wise and powerful Earl. Sadly, he has no sons, only his pride and joy were in his daughter.

He knows that men wished to marry his precious Sonya, but his wife had a vision. That she will marry a great king and bear him children.

BANG!

People in the halls gotten quiet and saw men coming when they opened the door.

There he was.

"Earl Hal! I have come bearing my victory!" He announced as he dropped a bear the size of a giant!

"Mor' du has been slain by Ragnar Lodbork!" The halls cheered and shouted, "RAGNAR!" and "Slayer of Mor' du!"

Ragnar Lodbork! The earl of Kattegat and a great Viking.

"Earl Ragnar!" Earl Hal announced when he took a stand. "I thank you for slaying the demon, Mor' du!"

The halls cheered once more. Earl Hal raised his hand to silence the crowd.

"However, I can guess that you seek some reward for your bravery no doubt."

The crowd grew quiet and hushed whispers are spreading. They are wondering, what could this great Earl want from another Earl?

"I would very much like to have your daughter hand in marriage." Earl Ragnar proposed that made Sonya drop her jaw at his declaration.

She was not expecting this at all! And she was not the only one.

"AHH!" and OOOH's! are sounded in their halls. Some declared an agreement, minor are cautious about it while others are not in favor of it.

Earl Hal gave himself a surprised look.

"Earl Ragnar, why would you wish for my only joy and comfort to be your wife? I recall you already have your princess Aslaug."

Sonya was fuming inside. She will not be any one's wife who has already had one.

"You overstep yourself, Earl Ragnar." A man called out of the crowd.

Sonya and Earl Hal looked at the source. A handsome man with dark hair

It is her beloved cousin and her father heir apparent chosen by herself and few councils. His name is Erik Magnusson. Sonya's first cousin from her mother's side and her father's favorite nephew. She had hoped that she would marry him since he was practically her best friend.

Sadly, Earl Ragnar had his intention upon her hand.

"Erik," She called upon him. Sonya feared for him. He was always protective of her since they were children.

"Oh, why is that?" Earl Ragnar questioned him.

"I will not allow the Earl's daughter to be dishonored by you." Erik declared. Erik does not like what this would go. He loves Sonya like a sister. He knows that she deserves better than this.

"Dishonored? I am giving her honor since the Gods had decided that I take a wife whose hair is full of fire and blood."

Earl Hal stood diligently and quietly for an odd reason.

"What title would she receive if she became your wife?" Her father questioned him. He knows that his daughter is more precious than gold and silvers.

Ragnar chuckled, "Why, lady Sonya of course." Ragnar's blue eyes looked into hers. Sonya would admit that she finds older men attraction instead of people her age.

However, Ragnar is simply not right for her.

Sadly, her father would have to reward him. Sonya took a deep breath and answered, "I accept his proposal. After all, he did kill the demon bear Mor'du."

For the sake of protecting her family's honor and people. She will have to be Ragnar's wife. Even it means that one day she will have her freedom back.

Sonya heaves her to breathe in and out. She knows that she did it to protect her father's words and it pains her that she is no more than 19 years old. Too many people would say that it is old enough to marry off quickly.

She prays to the Mother of God that she finds happiness soon.

Earl Hal came in to see his daughter one last time.

He is saddened that his daughter would leave him and start a family of her own. He prays that princess Aslaug would be kind to his child.

"let's go," Earl Hal said to his daughter.

"Yes."

This is her battle and she will win the war.
