(A/N)- I'm dry on how exactly I get myself from point A to point B in the plot and thank you to all the people who have followed this story so far and especially to merendinoemiliano who has been with this story and has left a review for every single chapter.
I'm not a good writer; I normally get good ideas but don't know how to execute them in a good way, just like how RT is handling RWBY which would make me a hypocrite for hating them I guess?
Enjoy?
Waking up early was not a problem for me, Or for my new body at least. Getting up from my bed I quickly fastened my new prosthetics, they were supposedly rather poor in quality when compared to Atlesian ones but then again, Mistral is the equivalent of the third world and Atlas is more of a Super Advanced industrial America/Russia/Wermacht type state.
Emerald was still sleeping and looked to be rather peaceful, I slept with a girl. The fact hung in my mind for a minute or two but it was supposedly okay since we actually slept instead of doing more 'frivolous' activities, I entered the bathroom and quickly went through my morning routine. Walking over to my table I sat down and went over the list from last night,
"Hmm, reusing the songs I have in my scroll would be very useful since the kingdoms are so damn focused on increasing rest and recreation activities"
I felt a tiny pang of guilt for some reason, I frowned. I felt nothing when killing a living person while I felt bad about ripping a song off from bands and artists that don't exist on this planet? That seemed rather bizarre, even for me.
Remnant's people are strong, more so than humans, it would make sense since only the strongest and smartest seemed to be the only ones who would've survived in ancient times and generations of breeding only the strongest would certainly make up an interesting specimen, as for Faunus they were rather strange when compared to humans, of course they had better senses than humans and many Faunus were much stronger than humans. So the question remains, why the Faunus didn't take over the planet generations ago, well I pondered on that question during my first week here and found the answer to my question from a Faunus.
...
"Well son, I'll tell you on the condition that you buy me a drink"
I quickly flashed some Lien at the Tavern keep and ordered a drink, when he gave me a look I quickly pointed at the Faunus sitting next to me, the Tavern keep understood and walked off in the direction of the bottles,
"Well how exactly do I say this..." he rubbed the back of his neck, his furry ears were twitching every now and then, "There's no easy way to say this so I'll say it directly, we Faunus are much more animalistic in our behaviour"
I looked at the man, I looked at his ears and I looked at his face again, he hardly looked like someone who would behave like an animal, everything about him was rather polite,
"Can you clarify a bit on that point please?" The tavernkeep arrived with his drink and left us to our conversation,
"Faunus tend to behave in an animalistic nature and hence we are much more susceptible to our baser instincts to say for example hunt or ... "
"Kill?" I finished for him, the man nodded grimly at my response, "Yes and more than that Faunus with pack or herd mentality tend to blindly follow people who are very authoritative in nature, even if said individual is not a Faunus and is not a very good leader"
"Huh, you learn something new everyday"
"Yeah, I guess that answers your question to why Faunus aren't the superior species"
"Well to be honest with you sir, I'm honestly freaked out by your ears though that doesn't mean I hate you or anything, but for some reason I don't get the same revulsion when I'm around Faunus with tails case in point"
I gestured towards a Faunus with a squirrel tail sitting at a table with two humans; the three of them looked like good friends and were laughing and joking around.
"It's quite alright, I can understand It's not the ears themselves but let me guess it's th-"
"Fur, it feels weird to see fur on a human body"
The man frowned but didn't do or say anything else, he tapped his fingers on the table, he let out a deep breath and spoke again
"Well at least you're not actively being racist neither are you being biased directly, so you're fine in my book at least kid"
...
I still feel bad telling a guy that his ears weirded me out, but then again my fear and disgust of Furries had transferred over and was even affecting me in this world as well. Anyway I quickly left a note on the table, picked up Marcus' rifle and walked out of the room.
I made my way down and towards the market district of Mistral, my shotgun greaves were attached to my prosthetics, I used to wonder how Mercury used these things then I realised that he basically a channelled aura into his weapons to fire them.
Remnant's technology was weird, most of them look hella impractical but they worked. To be honest they reminded me of Magitech from the final fantasy series, the airships, transforming weapons most of which looked real enough to make back in our world with the exception that they would be super heavy, the giant mechs but to be fair the Atlesian Paladin looked and was armed more like a mobile artillery platform than an actual battle mecha like say the Cordovin's Colossus from Volume 6.
Speaking of technology it wouldn't hurt if I introduced some of our tech, from earth. From what I heard, tanks existed in Remnant but Atlas was the only that had heavy combat vehicles left in Remnant, and they were thankfully more anti-Grimm centred than ones resembling our tanks which were meant to fight other humans, as for air support Atlesian ships were essentially flying Aircraft carriers and were relatively streamlined compared to other bullheads of the world so fast moving jet fighters were definitely something worth introducing so, yet again another example of the other kingdoms enjoying the status quo too much.
The market district was fairly nice, but if you had an eye as keen as mine you could clearly see the class divide that occurred here, the lower classes had to pay higher prices if they wanted access to higher quality goods, if I remember Marcus' teaching correctly than I believe that it had something to do with the upper class reminding the lower ones of their place.
I scoffed and walked past them, I was here to get some more extra ammunition, and Marcus's rifle had a pretty nice punch and I didn't want to lose it as of yet, it was far too useful. Making my way past the colourful crowd, I arrived at a small shop that looked rather tiny but was obviously in possession of high end goods judging from what I could see in the display cases.
There was a small sign above it, that read:
HEPHAESTUS METAL WORKS
I pushed the door and the little bell above it produced a little chime, I looked around at the various display cases. There was some loud shuffling towards the back of the shop where I could see a silhouette of someone moving about in the dark place.
Pulling my newly bough wallet out I checked the Lien and walked over to the ammo cases, there were a variety of choices to take, Fire, Ice, Lightning and even Hard-light dust which I heard was dangerous to mine hence was expensive.
"Impressed?"
"Quite, you do seem to have a variety of " I gestured to the cases around me, "Products"
The bearded man laughed and waved the compliment off with his hand,
"I aim to please young master, so what will ye need?"
"Well at least a fifty of fire, ice and lightning 50 calibre rounds" I lifted my rifle and put it on the counter, "For this"
"Hmm, quite the large order there" he rubbed his beard as he wrote what I assumed was the receipt, "You gonna be hunting something large?"
"Not really, I pissed off the wrong bandit tribe and I'm not exactly safe here without the proper weapons to defend myself, and add few grenades and flash bangs to the list if you got them"
"Now yer making it sound like you're going to war"
"I guess you could say that" I chuckled a bit amused at the prospect that I thought I could honestly take on the queen's agents, "It's more of dealing with a messy divorce between two powerful and influential people"
"Hmm, that reminds me of when things were a bit simpler" he moved around the shop and started gathering the supplies that he wrote down, "And I suppose you don't need a new weapon?"
"No, I don't but I think my friend could use some in hers" I remembered Emerald having what resembled two Desert Eagles or whatever that hand canon's name was instead of the revolvers she had in the show, "I'll bring her by later"
"Tell me do you do mass orders?"
"Eh?"
"I mean If there was an expeditionary force being organised by the some businessmen and said businessman decided to outfit his forces with better equipment than could you produce copies of the same equipment"
"Well it's better to buy pre fabricated Atlesian equipment, but generally people come to smithy's only if they want customized equipment or affordable high quality equipment"
"Huh, you learn something new every day" I smiled took the bag from his hands and paid him and left, the guy seemed nice enough and going to him in the future If I acquire more people would be nice, and generally regular customers are given preference over others.
I pulled my scroll out and started strolling down the street, Little Miss had apparently new files that she acquired. The new information or video rather brought a frown to my face, it was a picture of a twelve year old Jaune stabbing a small Beowolf, it was smaller than most of its brethren, normally seeing the Arc boy being actually competent would've made me happy but there was just one problem.
He had a huge eye patch over his left eye, it covered much of his cheek, Ren had his back against his and aimed his machine pistols at the head of an Ursa and quickly dispatched it, meanwhile Nora stood some distance away and smashed the skull of a Creep with a rather large sledgehammer, of course they weren't the only ones fighting, there was what seemed to be Atlesian Knight-130s fighting alongside them.
The video was from a week ago, Little Miss had apparently acquired it from the local SDC headquarters that controlled all their operations in this area. So I could only assume that they had taken a job to defend a SDC mine, If Jacques was as much of an asshole right now as he was shown to be in the show then no wonder Adam went full edge and emo on his company, I just hoped that he didn't run into teh three of them.
Since I was five years early then that meant the White Fang hadn't turned violent as of yet, but there's no way of stopping that, it's kinda like the American Civil War. It has to happen in order for everyone to start treating the Faunus better. I frowned again when I realised how shitty yet wonderful Remnant could be at times.

SDC Dust Mine,
The Wilderness of Anima
Jaune pulled his sword out of the dissipating Creep and took a deep breath; it had been over a month since he had left his home to pursue his dream of being a huntsman. While his parents were against it, his Grandfather and elder sister Saphron were the only ones who supported his dream. His grandfather had trained him in secret as much as he could, and thanks to him Jaune could easily dispatch most of the lower tier Grimm it also helped that he was much bigger and stronger than most children his age, an Alpha beowolf was something that he needed help in order to fight off.
"Jaune, here take this" he turned to his newly acquired companion who handed him a water bottle, Lie Ren or just Ren as he like to be called, he had met him while travelling and if not for his timely intervention, Ren and he would've been dead. While Ren was calm, stoic and didn't bother you unless he needed something or wanted to talk, Nora was the exact opposite; she had a bubbly personality, limitless energy, and had no respect for personal space.
"Jaune-Jauneeeeeeeeeee!"
Jaune felt a freight train hit him and he keeled over and fell down, Nora bounced up and down on his back making Jaune cry out in pain every time she did so.
"Nora, I think that you should let Jaune rest, the Alpha threw him quite the distance, and if it wasn't for his training and absurd amounts of Aura than he would have died"
Nora immediately stopped bouncing on his back, her face was instantly filled with regret and she quickly got off his back and adjusted her skirt. Jaune quietly muttered a thank you and glared at Nora, the girl looked away and shifted nervously.
Jaune chuckled, it was hard to be mad at Nora, she could be a lot at times but it was difficult to be truly mad at her, that was what made her Nora, it was all a part of her charm, Ren smile and helped dust him off.
The mine had now fallen silent, the Atlesian robots went back to patrolling as normal and those who needed repairs or were out of ammo were carried back to the workshops or went on their own. Jaune sheathed Crocea Mors, and walked towards the overseer's building. The man was unnecessarily cruel to the Faunus Miners, but Jaune couldn't do anything, he wasn't in a position to do anything, he remembered the last time he tried to stand up for the miners, he ran his finger over the black eye patch covering his left eye.
This man may not have taken his eye but he was the same as the one who took it, they were both scum and degenerates of the highest degree, he often wondered if Jacques Schnee knew what was happening in his mines, but he knew better than to ponder upon questions that he wouldn't be able to find the answer to.
The memory was still fresh in his mind, it was kind of hard to forget the event and the face of the man who took your eye.
...
Jaune walked around the mine minding his own business when he came across someone screaming and shouting, quickly he rushed in the direction of the shouts, turning around the corner he was presented with a sight he thought he would never see, a brawny man stood over a young Faunus boy, one hand grabbed the collar of the boy while the other had a hot branding iron with the words SDC glowing bright orange.
He had heard how the SDC treated the Faunus, when he saw the mine he saw how pathetic their condition was, Nora threatened to go after the overseer and break his legs, luckily him and Ren had restrained her.
"Noo!" his voice came out before his mind could process the information, "What are you doing? That's inhumane!"
"Not that these animals know any better kid, go back to work"
Jaune drew his sword immediately; his other hand grabbed the sheath of Crocea Mors and turned it into its sheath form. The AK-130s standing next to the man immediately transformed their hands into guns and aimed their weapons at him.
"Are you kidding kid? Just get out of here and pretend that you never saw this savvy?"
Jaune held his ground; he raised his sword and held himself in a basic stance, his grandfather had told him that being a hero was saving as many as people as you can no matter the cost, even that cost was sacrificing a city to save Remnant he would be prepared to do it if such a thing came up in the future, and if he abandoned this young Faunus while he could still help him, he wouldn't be able to live with himself.
"NO! Please don't I really need this job" Jaune frowned again, he seemed to be doing it a lot more since he had left home, "You can get a job anywhere else why are you working here?"
"I'm working to clear my father's debt, my dad died before he could complete his contract and my mum too sick to work and she needs to care of my baby sister"
Jaune was currently stuck in a situation he didn't want to be in, if he attacked Ren and Nora would have to bear the consequences of his action, and on top of that this young boy's mother was sick and couldn't work, and he was the only bread earner it seemed. Jaune sighed and put his sword back into its sheath, he had been growing up much faster in the past week, his grandfather had warned him about the true nature of the world, and he was quite taken back at what he had found so far.
"What'll it take for you to not brand him?"
"Sorry kid but someone needs too remind these animals that you don't slack off while they're on the job and if I brand one of them the rest only work faster. An example has to be made"
And true to his word the other miners were looking on in fear, they had a variety of appendages ranging from ears, horns, antlers to tails he even saw a Faunus with teeth sticking out of his upper jaw and out his mouth.
The man turned his attention back to the boy, his face twisted into a sadistic smile if Jaune ever saw one, his voice left his mouth once again.
"I'll take the brand instead!"
The man looked at the boy and then dropped him, the man walked over to him with the branding iron still glowing hot, he smiled as he grabbed Jaune by his grey jacket and positioned the three lettered word that was glowing over his left eye.
That day Jaune Arc learned about the true monsters that walked Remnant's surface.
...
He passed it off as an injury to Ren and Nora, the former being quite worried and the latter had bawled her eyes out, it was hard for him at first but he learned how to do everything with one eye quickly, as for his fighting... he had decreased in his skill of dispatching Grimm but he was confident that with time he could overcome his handicap. Thankfully the camp doctor was not a bigoted racist and helped him by giving him an eye patch that was comfortable enough to wear, in the end the Faunus boy escaped unscathed and that was all that mattered to him.
Jaune knocked twice before entering, the man sat behind his desk going over what he assumed was paperwork related to the mine, Jaune stood in silence for ten minutes before the overseer finally turned his attention to him.
"Hmm, oh yes your payment" the man opened one of his drawers and pulled out an envelope and handed it to Jaune, he carefully counted it and after he finished he was rather confused as to why the overseer was paying him extra money, "You're probably wondering why I'm paying you extra right?"
"Well, you were supposed to give us 6000 Lien for guarding your mine for two weeks but I'm counting 12,000 here" Jaune quickly put the money back in the envelope, "So what changed? I don't see the SDC being generous anytime soon"
"My boy you allowed us to actually make a bigger profit this week, I advertised you lot as huntsmen in training and after the miners saw you three in action they felt at ease" he went back to his table and poured himself a drink and one for Jaune, he accepted it and downed it in one go, it burned his throat but it helped him ignore the pain, "And that meant less Grimm attacks, this mine is a rather small one so we can't afford full time guards so we have to rely on the robots that Central has provided us, and the robots aren't the most friendly looking, all in all you helped us save up in terms of bullets, robot parts and damage done to the facilities all the while reducing attacks and negativity"
Jaune nodded and left the office, the alcohol got to work and started numbing his pain, his Aura rushed to prevent his inebriation but still left him numb to his strained muscles and screaming bones, Nora and Ren were standing around and already had their bags in one pile, Nora was the first one to notice him and quickly shouldered her large sledgehammer and put her backpack on, Ren imitated her and holstered his machine pistols after checking that they were loaded and full.
Jaune walked over and picked his heavy duffle bag and picked his satchel up, he was much bigger than Ren and Nora, that meant that he had to carry the heaviest items of their baggage, pulling the envelope out he divided it into three parts of 4000 Lien each,
"Here's my share" he quickly put his share into a compartment in his leather satchel, "Here's yours Ren and take Nora's as well"
"Hey that's not fair!"
"Nora the last time we gave you money you spent it all on trying to win a stupid game at a fair"
"It wasn't stupid silly, I wanted that fluffy sloth"
"Nora, first of all Sloths can't help us fight Grimm second Sloths are furry not fluffy"
"Bu-"
"No buts Nora, Ren will let you buy things from time to time"
Nora had the expression of a downcast puppy that had just been kicked then told that it's parents had abandoned it, not his best analogy yet but Jaune supposed that it would have to stick for now.
"Ren, why does Jaune get to keep his albatross when I don't get a sloth it's not fair!"
"What albatross Nora?" Ren repeated slowly as if talking to a toddler, "We already left that one behind"
"No we didn't"
"Yes Nora, we freed him in Wind Path"
"He's right there" Nora pointed to a tree a few feet away, and lo and behold there was an albatross perched there ruffling his feathers, "See he's cleaning himself"
Jaune scratched his head, he remembered helping an Injured Wandering Albatross near Wind Path by unlocking it's Aura, but he still held doubts on whether or not it was the same one. Albatrosses were known to live near the coast and deep within the continent of nearly all of the kingdoms even Vacuo, they were also known for being one of the few animals that acted hostile to Grimm, for what reason Scientists couldn't explain.
They were arguably the largest flying bird, well after the Eurasian Vulture that lived in Menagerie that outgrew even ancient Nevermore, he thought the Grimm were bad and that was until he found out about the few animals that dared challenge Grimm and had the ability to win, the Faunus in Menagerie were truly blessed and cursed.
"Wandering Albatrosses are known to fly and live all over the known world Nora, it could be any one of them"
"Well that one has Aura" Ren spoke walking closer to the tree, "And quite a lot at that too, I can sense it easily"
"See, Ren's our Aura expert and if he says that an albatross has Aura then it's your Albatross"
"It's not 'my' Albatross Nora"
"Silly Jaune, if it's not yours why did it follow us all this way?"
"Wait what?"
"Yeah it's been following us since we left Wind Path"
The albatross screamed and flew towards Jaune, Ren Immediately pulled out his guns and aimed it at the offending bird but there was no need as it landed in front of Jaune and stood stock still, it was as tall as it was. Jaune looked at it properly then he saw it, it was faint but the scar from the wound was still there on it's breast, the bird lacked feathers near the scar.
"So it really is you huh?"
The bird screeched again, albeit it was less loud than the original was, he didn't feel like his ears were about to be torn to bits. The bird then brought one of its wings in front of it and bowed like a prince in some children's animated musical, he would never be able to remove the sight of that brown haired rabbit Faunus singing 'Little Bunny Foo Foo' from his mind.
"Umm, you're welcome I guess"
"Bow back Jaune"
"Wha-"
"It's how Wandering Albatrosses show respect, they bow and it's normally considered polite to bow back!" Ren wasn't acting in usual calm and stoic manner, "Umm Okay I guess"
Jaune did as he was bidden and bowed to the bird in front of him, now he understood why Ren was being so insistent on him showing respect to the bird, the bird looked as big as he was and on top of that the bird had Aura, and his talons did look mighty sharp.
The Albatross folded his wings out and flew up and sat down on a tree again, Nora harrumphed and folded her arms while glaring at Jaune with an adorable pout, Ren just sighed and told Nora to start walking again.
As the group continued their journey they heard powerful wings beat in the distance, Jaune and Ren were immediately on their guards and looked up, meanwhile Nora just kicked a whatever stones she could find along the way ignoring the sound. Jaune's worries were gone when he saw the Albatross gliding hundreds of meters above them, it barely even beat it's wings and was just circling around.
"Ren" the ever silent and mysterious Mistralian turned to face him, "Yes?"
"Is that Albatross really following us?" his friend looked at the sky again before letting out an amused sigh, "It seems that you've formed a bond with the Albatross"
"Say what?"
"A bond Jaune, when a human unlocks an animal's Aura then the creature and the person develop an understanding for each other, you could say that you've officially welcomed the Albatross into your family"
"So it'll follow me wherever I go?"
"It would explain the lack of Nevermore in the past few days, so yes not only will it follow you he'll protect you as well"
"Wait you can tell that he's a male?"
"Male Albatross have sharper beaks and larger talons to fight off other males who might be looking to steal their mates"
"Not only do I get paired up with a Ninja from Mistralian Anime but he's also a bird watcher" Jaune chuckled a little at his own poor joke, "Well it was actually my mother who was the birdwatcher, Its... one of the many things she taught me"
Jaune's expression soured, he knew that parents and family was a touchy subject with the two of them, the only things he knew was from what Nora told him about their past, apparently Ren lost both of his parents and Nora had been an orphan for as long as she could remember, she would also starve many a times when she was young, that explain why she loved eating whatever Jaune cooked so much, not that he was a bad cook but rather that whatever he cooked was rather bland compared to what Ren makes.
It also explained how they never had any leftover to throw away, he pitied the two of them but he knew that they didn't like pity so the only thing he could give them was his respect and lending his sword when they needed it, he wasn't a good listener but he could be the ear that they'll spout their feelings and problems to. Jaune looked and saw the Albatross still gliding around, and barely beating it's wings, now that he came to think of it he hadn't seen the bird flap his wings at all.
His mother had told him that good deeds come around and go back to the person who did them in the first place, he was happy that seemed to be true in the form of their new friend. He looked back at his companions and promised himself that the two wouldn't suffer as long as he drew breath, they were his family now and his gave his word to look out for the two of them.
And an Arc never goes back on his word.
(A/N)- BTW I'm not sure that an Albatross the size of a twelve year old can actually fly and not give in to the laws of physics or not, but there have been fossils of large ancient but extinct birds, I believe it was called a Pelagornis sandersi.
These birds were not the size of human I believe, but they were quite large for birds, and scientists were even stupefied that this species could even fly, but this is Remnant and I refuse to believe that their animals won't be deadlier than out Earth's counterparts, just look at Zwei for God's sakes!
