Greetings and welcome to Chapter 4. I decide to try out a first person perspective to see if I could fix my issues with writing dialogue. Plus I think it makes more since given that Fierce Deity is the main character. So I hope it goes well and you all enjoy it.

To Repay a Debt

Chapter 4

Rusl and I walk away from the Spirit Spring. My face definitely not still red from the idea of being Link's mom. I mean the idea is ridicules. Me, a Goddess of Blowing Shit Up, a mom to a boy who is forced to clean up my mother's and aunts Kingdom. But, why do we resemble each other?

Hyrule and Termina are parallel to each other, everyone has a counterpart. But gods are obviously the exception, right? Furthermore, no one had a counterpart of the opposite gender so no way me and Link are counterparts.

I let out a sigh, causing Rusl to glance at me. "Are you alright?"

I nod. "Yeah. Just questions without answers bug me. Makes me wish I was the All-Knowing type of Goddess."

We enter an area that according to Rusl is right at the outskirts of Ordon Village. On my right I see gigantic tree that looks like it somehow comprised of two trees twisted up. At the base of the tree was a ladder that surprisingly lead up to a house. How in the world did someone build a tree house like this?

I look down at Rusl "Who lives here."

He gives me a pained looked. "It…it was his parents. Link's parents were building it before..." he went silent as my heart felt heavy. I'm going to regret asking this.

"What happened to them?"

It takes him a minute before he answers. "…When Link was a baby his parents went out for trading in the Castle Town."

"Why them specifically?"

"They were from there. Arthur, Link's father, said they knew people that could get us some good deals for resources we could use. This was before Ordon was as self-sustaining as it is now. Arthur and his wife Diana left Link with my family, believing the trip was too long and possibly too dangerous for a baby. The trip to and from should have taken no longer then just over a week by carriage. But they never returned, we all got worried and began to search for them. We found the carriage some days later burned and their bodies…desecrated."

My body is trembling. My anger screaming to be released. Without a safe, and frankly healthy, way to do so I hum a song I learned years ago to calm myself. It's called the Song of Healing.

"Was it brigands?"

"Not possible. Arthur was an amazing swordsman. We spared many times, so I know just how dangerous he was with a blade. He was a Knight of Hyrule for goodness sake! Diana may not have had skill with a blade, but she was a genius at using the environment to her advantage. It would take far more then damnable thugs to kill the Avalons."

"Avalon?"

"Their family name. I must admit it is strange that they have one. Usually only those who belong to noble blood, such as the Royal Family, have surnames. Never commoners, even if they are Knights."

He isn't wrong. Even in Termina people don't seem to have surnames. If they did, I never heard them. But back on subject.

"What do you think killed them?"

He glares at the ground, the memories affecting him. "I believe it was monsters" he says. "It's the only thing I believe could have happened. But monsters haven't been seen in Hyrule in centuries. However, and I mean no offense Kana, but you being here makes me believe it was more than ever before. I believe those monsters killed Link's parents to get to him because he is chosen by The Three."

Again another Link lost his parents. Why? It can't be a coincident that this Link and the one that saved me have dead parents. I hum the Song of Healing again but more forcefully.

"Rusl?"

We turn and see Link standing at the path to Ordon Village proper. Rusl sighs. "Link I told you to stay at home."

The boy looks down sadly. "I…I'm sorry but you've been gone awhile and Uli got worried."

Rusl gives a small smile. "I guess we have been talking for a while."

Barely hearing Rusl I walk over to Link and knell down. He looks up and moves his head to the side in thought. "...You look familiar."

I scoop him up and hug him. He gives a small yelp in surprise. "Uhh…"

I tell him. "We have met before like I said back said back at the spring." I sit him back down. "Sorry for the sudden hug."

Stuttering slightly. "I can't remember where we met. I'm sorry." he says with a frown.

I smile and rub his head. Messing up his hair a bit, causing him to giggle a bit. "Its fine. It was a long time ago."

Turning to Rusl. "I think I should talk to the villagers." He nods in agreement.

"Yes. You came all this way, no reason to prolong it."

Link looks back and forth at us with a confused look on his face. I pick him back up and put him on my shoulder. "Hold on kiddo."

He smiles wide, it was honestly adorable. I may be a Goddess of Destruction but even I can call it when I see it.

"I never been this height up before." Smiling me and Rusl head to Ordon Village proper.

There Rusl called for a village meeting so I could explain why I am here. We all gathered in front of a building Rusl told me was the Mayor's house. I tell them who I am and where I am from. How Link's previous incarnation freed me from that mask. And lastly how I made my vow to train Link.

This young girl, about Link's age give or take a year or so, with dirty blond hair sits close to Link while I told my story. I found out later her name is Ilia and her father Bo is the mayor. She takes repeated looks at Link during my story and not so subtly glares at me. I guess she likes him and is protective of him.

After I explain I address Link directly. "So…that's everything" For now at least.

The boy remains quiet. Did I overwhelm him? Before I could apologize, he says. "Can I have some time to think please Ms. Kana?"

I nod. "Of course, kid. And it's just Kana for now okay?"

Link stands and walks away down a path next to a small river that has a house at the end. Ilia walks with him but stops when Link says something to her. Normally I would have heard what given how good my hearing is, but I respect his privacy.

A large bold man speaks up. "Well. As Mayor of Ordon I believe I speak for everyone here when I say this is unexpected."

All the villagers nod in agreement. A blond woman standing next to Rusl speaks up. She must be Uli. "It's...hard to believe Link is going to be a hero."

A short man with a square face, large nose, and small eyebrows speaks up. "Well we all know about the mark he has on his left hand."

Bo agrees with him, referring to him as Jaggle, before talking directly to me. "La-" he coughs to correct himself. "Kana. If I may ask how you plan on training him?"

I shrug. "I was going to put him through a similar training regimen my father put me through. I also was thinking I could live here while I do."

They all become shocked at that. Figures, how often does a Goddess show up in your little village and asks to live there for a decade or so?"

Bo responds. "Well. It would be an honor. We will treat you as we would the Roya-" I hold up my hand interrupting him.

"No. I am a Goddess yes. But don't give me special treatment. I wish to be treated like any other resident here. I'll pull my own weight." With a smirk I flex my arm to show off my muscles. "And since this is my mortal form, I am A LOT stronger than I look so trust me when I say what weight I can pull is a pretty good deal."

That got a good-nature laugh out of them. Rusl then asks me. "If I may ask, do you have any experience living like we do?"

"Yep. In my home realm I lived in the forest anyway. So, I know how to hunt and built what I need. However." I tug at my ruined clothes and smile awkwardly. "Making clothes is something I never need to do till I came to this Kingdom."

Again, we all laugh. "Well I know better than to argue with a Goddess." Bo begins. "I hereby welcome you and declare you a resident of our village Kana."

I bow respectfully to him. "Thank you very much."

Soon after Bo took me on a quick tour of the village. Which wasn't much to be honest. First was the Ordon Ranch looked after by a young man named Fado. It was a large simple ranch with a lot of goats. According to Bo they use the milk they produce to create cheese, which is apparently quite popular in Castle Town. They also eat the meat and use the skin to create clothing among other things.

The village itself just has buildings for everyone and farms to grow crops. I personally like the little pond behind the houses. Even has little fish in it. Out of curiosity, and I was feeling a bit peckish, I grabbed a very small one, found out later it's called a Greengill, and ate it…whole…never again.

All and all I decided that Ordon is a nice, quiet little village. It's a lot livelier than Clock Town if you ask me. I'm going to like it here. Now I just need to build a home, shower, and get some new clothes. Not in that order.

That evening I found Link in front of the tree house his parents were going to build; he's looking down at the mark on his left hand.

I sit down beside him. I still have to look down at him. "Hey. Are you okay?"

"Yeah. I just have a lot on my mind." He looks up at the tree.

"Do you think my parents knew my destiny?"

All I could do was shrug and say-"I dunno. Its possible. Rusl told me your father was a Knight of Hyrule. Maybe he took you and your mother here so you can have a peaceful childhood instead of possibility losing you to the royal family so they could "train you properly.""

He looks worried at that. "Umm…that won't happen will it?"

I smile. "Not if they want to anger a Goddess with a big sword that shoots lasers."

"It does whaaat?"

Quickly I draw my sword and launch an energy disk into the sky. Link's eyes widen.

"That was AWESOME!" A big goofy smile spreads across his face.

"Yeah. I am." We both laugh as he sits next to me. I couldn't help but scratch his head causing him to close his eyes and smile. "You are a puppy."

He pouts. "Am not."

"Definitely are and I will refer to you as such for now on."

He continues to pout as I look up at the tree house. "You know, that would make a nice place to live."

He nods. "Yeah. I never been inside though. Rusl says it's still unfinished."

"Want to finish it?"

A little bit of excitement crawls into his voice. "Can I?"

I nod. "Its technically yours after all. Of course, I will help."

He smiles wide. "Awesome."

"While it can be considered exercise, I'll handle the heavy lifting Puppy."

He pouts again. "I doubt I'll ever be strong enough to lift tree trunks."

I can't help but smirk. "Remind me to show you how I lift one while laying on my back."

We then just sit together as the sun sets. As twilight sets in, I can't help but feel something, sadness maybe. Or an omen? Looking down at the boy next to me for a moment I feel like I made a mistake coming here so soon. He isn't even ten years old yet now he knows he is going to be a hero. But the Link who freed me was barely older than he was when he started his journey.

Still.

Suddenly he falls asleep, his head falling on my arm. Carefully I pick him up and move to sit down against a tree by the tree house. I place his head in my lap, I suddenly remember what Rusl asked me early in the day.

"Are you his mother?"

I let out a sigh.

By the end of this he is gonna see me as a mother figure isn't he?

And scene.

Again I hope the change of perspective helped with the dialogue. Wont lie this stuff is harder then it looks, but practice makes perfect as they say.
