A/N Also, I'll start working on my next multi-chapter story in the next few days and I just figured out its plot, and it'll be one rollercoaster of emotions and action and everything else ;) For now, there's this story, so I hope you guys will enjoy reading it! Thank you!

DISASTROUS CONSEQUENCES

Friday, 12:30 PM

Danny wasn't the huge romantic type of guy. He knew that and always thought that to himself. He wasn't very familiar with it ever since his divorce with Rachel. He had tried his best with some of his lovers but nothing had worked out that well. Gaby didn't stick around for that long, and then he thought that it was just not meant to be. Rachel was his last real lover. Until he met Amber one year ago. Well, now she wasn't Amber Vitalli, but Melissa Armstrong. Three weeks ago, Danny took her for a 'romantic getaway' to try to spice things up in their relationship and grow closer to each other. He had a chance and an opportunity to do so and he didn't want to lose it. Deep down, he was fed up with all his lovers walking away, he didn't want to be alone anymore, he deserved to live a happy life with someone he truly loved. Melissa was a great match.

Ever since that building collapsed on him and Steve, he made a vow to try and make things better between him and Melissa, and try to show her how much he truly loved her and appreciated her. He wanted to change, and Steve gave him some advice too. Since then, things have been great between him and Melissa.

When their romantic getaway was ruined and Melissa's abusive ex-husband tracked them down and almost killed him, he promised to make it up to her. He wanted to show her that he still cared and loved her, and he even wanted to try and be a little more romantic, and maybe take things to the next level soon. He had realized that he really liked her, and he didn't want her to leave just like Rachel and Gaby, he didn't want to mess it up. So, today he decided to make her dinner at his house, just him and her, alone.

Danny went to the store nearby his house to get some stuff for tonight, including some candles, food to cook for tonight, some napkins and so on. He had a vision in mind for tonight's dinner. Lights off and candles on, great delicious food on the table, and some romantic music in the background, all dressed up and looking good. He just hoped that he wouldn't screw this relationship up.

As Danny walked out of the store with a bag in his hand having all the things he needed for tonight and started walking to his car that was right across the street, his phone rang. Subconsciously, he stopped in the middle of the street and took his phone out to look at the text he had just received. It was Melissa and her text read 'Can't wait for tonight.. love you Jersey'. A smile lit up his face as he read her message.

However, as he was about to answer her back, he couldn't help but notice a black BMW speeding his way. The driver was on his phone, and the car was extremely close to him that Danny barely had the chance to escape. Then, all of a sudden, the driver looked up from his phone and saw a short blond man standing right in front of him. He instantly pressed hard on the brakes, but at the rate of his speed, he barely had time to stop and that's when it all happened.

Danny barely had any time to run away. He was caught up by this text message and didn't realize where he was actually standing. The impact happened so fast. The BMW hit Danny's body and sent him right on the hood of the car and right back to the ground. Danny was completely knocked down. The collision was so strong and powerful that anyone who saw it all happen could bet on their life that whoever got hit would be good as dead. Bystanders instantly heard the sound of the collision and couldn't help but make their way to the scene of the crash.

The driver instantly got out of his car and approached the blond man lying motionless on the ground. The scene was soon surrounded by a dozen bystanders. Some let out a gasp of shock as they got closer to the scene. It was terrible. There on the ground, lied the body of Danny, as blood was heavily flowing from the back of his head. Right next to him, was his phone that was now shattered and broken and all his groceries that were now everywhere on the ground. There was no doubt that Danny was now in extremely deep trouble.

Steve was sitting tranquilly and comfortably on his couch in the living room watching TV. Danny had told him about his dinner with Melissa as well, so he wasn't going to bother him or anything for the rest of the day. He figured he would be busy preparing for the night. He had already went for his morning run and came back a took a shower, so he was now resting at home. It was good to have some peace and quiet from time to time all for yourself.

But, Steve didn't know that his day would soon turn into a terrible nightmare. As he was watching a football game on the TV, his phone, that was sitting on the table right in front of him rang. He took it and glanced briefly at the caller ID. It was Duke. He wondered why he'd call him on a Friday at 1 in the afternoon. He then thought it was probably a case or something like that.

"McGarrett" voiced the ex-Navy Seal as he answered his phone.

"Steve, it's Duke. We got a problem."

Steve immediately registered the worried and distressed tone of Duke on the phone. Something went horribly wrong, and he felt a knot forming in his stomach. Something told him that it was terrible news.

"What's wrong, Duke? Is someone hurt?" he asked, the concern and the worry growing.

"It's Danny, Steve" replied Duke. HPD just got a call a few minutes ago about someone getting hit by a car. Dispatch asked the caller to check for an ID or a wallet, and that's how they found out that it was Danny.

Steve's heart dropped at the mention of his partner. Fear and worry instantly ate him up and he was now rushing to his room to wear some clothes and leave his house. "What's with Danny, Duke? What happened?!" exclaimed Steve through the phone, in frustration and worry. His voice was slightly shaky. His gut told him that his partner was in deep trouble.

"Steve, Danny got hit by a car, and it's bad. They don't know if he'll make it" announced Duke as he spoke to his friend. He couldn't keep something like that away from him, so he had to tell him everything he knew and be honest with him. But it hurt him to deliver such news to Steve, especially since it involves Danny.

Steve stopped dead in his tracks as he heard Duke's words. His partner was hit by a car and they're not sure he would be able to make it. He felt like all the air has been sucked out of his lungs and he couldn't breathe well. He started feeling this heaviness and tightness in his chest. Danny's life is literally hanging in the balance right now. His heart rate immediately quickened and his muscles felt tense.

"Where are they taking him?" questioned Steve, as he put his shoes on. His voice was now full of worry and was quivery.

"An ambulance arrived to the scene just a few minutes after we got the call. He's being transported to Queens Medical Center as we speak" declared the HPD officer.

"Alright, thanks Duke" said Steve as he then hung his phone up. Tears instantly formed in his eyes and he felt a lump in his throat. He can't lose Danny, it would tear him apart, and he wasn't ready to face such an incident right now and go through such a trauma. He simply wasn't ready to lose his brother and best friend, not today.

Steve broke every possible traffic rule to get to the hospital. He climbed into his truck, turned his siren on and sped to there. The closer he got to the hospital, the more his concern and worry for his partner's life grew. He couldn't shake this feeling that Danny was hurt pretty bad, real bad actually, and it scared him. On his way, he contacted Lou, Chin and Kono and informed them about the latest incident and they decided to meet him in the hospital.

As Steve arrived and parked his truck, he jumped out of it and rushed to the inside of the hospital and made his way to the nurse's station that was right in front of him. "Hi, my name is Commander Steve McGarrett, my partner Detective Williams was wheeled in a couple of minutes ago. He was involved in a road accident, he got a hit by a car" stated Steve, as he looked at the nurse standing right in front of him.

She could see the worry in his eyes, and she felt sorry for the man. "Detective Williams was just wheeled in for surgery. As soon as it's done, a doctor will come and inform you. For now you can wait in the waiting room on the floor above. I'm sorry" responded the nurse, affectionately and in a soft voice.

Steve just nodded at her and made his way to the waiting room. He wasn't feeling any better ever since he got the news that Danny was hit by a car. As he arrived, he found a couch and sat on it. All he could do was wait for his partner's surgeon to get out and tell him if Danny was okay or not.

Ten minutes later, the rest of the team arrived and spotted Steve sitting on a chair with both his elbows on his knees and his face buried in the palm of his hands. He looked defeated and upset.

"Steve?" exclaimed Chin, as he approached his boss, in a rush.

Steve heard someone call out his name and instantly jolted his head up and was met with the rest of his team. His eyes reddened from when he first arrived as he was visibly distraught and shaken up. There was no doubt that he had obviously shed some tears.

"How is he, any news?" asked Kono, in a worried tone, looking affectionately but worriedly at her boss.

"Nope, nothing. They just told me that he was wheeled in for surgery" retorted Steve. "Guys… when Duke called he said that it was bad and he might not make it" he continued, as he looked at his friends.

"Hey, Danny's a fighter, nothing bad will happen to him" answered Lou, in a more serious and determined voice. He tried his best to give Steve an ounce of hope, because from the looks of it, he looked beat and broken, hopeless and torn on the inside.

But, deep down, everyone knew how risky and dangerous getting hit by a car can be. If Danny doesn't make it, nothing will ever be the same, and that got the team extremely worried for Steve. They're not so sure how he could cope with such a trauma, especially since Steve and Danny have grown extremely close to each other. They all just prayed that Danny would make it out alive.

Five-0 has been waiting for over 4 hours now. Steve had started pacing the floor for the past hour and he hasn't seemed to calm down ever since. Duke had called them and informed them that the person who hit Danny took full responsibility of his actions. He was fined and his driver's license was suspended indefinitely for the time being.

While pacing the floor, Steve remembered that Danny and Melissa were supposed to have a romantic dinner tonight. His heart ached for his friend. He never seemed to catch a break, and whenever he tried to do something good for him and Melissa, it ends up getting blown up. He had to call her and tell her what happened. But, he didn't want to worry her, so until the doctor tells them the extent of the damage and how Danny is, he wasn't going to give her a call.

But, right then, a surgeon appeared. His surgical mask was down, and he approached the team. "Family of Detective Williams?" asked the doctor.

Lou, Chin and Kono got up and Steve neared the doctor. "Yes, it's us. How is Danny, doc?" demanded Steve, worry written all over his face.

The surgeon sighed and began speaking. "Detective Williams suffered an important trauma following the incident. However, he's extremely lucky, because I can guarantee you that someone else was highly likely to die after such a hit. Unfortunately, the bleeding from the back of his head was caused by a big wound from the impact when he hit the ground. We managed to stitch it up but he lost some blood. We are certain that he suffered a brain concussion as well. I'll be taking him for a CT scan to check if he's suffering from any other brain injuries. This is my main concern at the moment. Detective Williams fractured also his humerus bone but we managed to fix it. His left tibia was also fractured but we were also to fix that up. Other than that, he has a couple of bruises and scars on his arm and his back. But, I expect him to have a full recovery. It may take a while, because there's a lot to take in. Also, you must know that we lost him during surgery but we revived him in under 2 minutes. He's currently being transported to the ICU as we speak. I put him on a ventilator just to assist his breathing and prevent any further complications to happen."

The whole team tried processing the information they just heard. Danny was indeed pretty lucky. It was overwhelming though. He seemed to have suffered numerous injuries. Steve's heart ached even more for him and he tried to keep his composure straight in front of his friends and the doctor. He then licked his lips and asked the doctor a question. "Can we see him?"

"As soon as he's settled in his room, I'll have a nurse come by and take you guys to him. But as per the ICU guidelines, you're allowed to go in one at a time. Hang in there, all of you. I'm positive that Detective Williams will make a full recovery, even if it takes some time" encouraged the doctor. With that, Steve gave his thanks and the surgeon made his way out of the waiting room.

Despite all his injuries, Danny was alive and Steve was never so thankful. As they were waiting for the nurse, he decided to call Melissa and inform her. She was obviously taken aback by the news and informed Steve that she would come by the hospital in the next hour or so. He also called Rachel who was on the mainland with the kids. She was taking the first flight back home. These were calls Steve hated to make but was unfortunately obliged to.

Fifteen minutes later, a nurse came by and took the team to Danny's room. Chin, Lou and Kono all went in before Steve. When it was his turn, he entered the room and instantly felt the lump forming in his throat once again. Danny looked so vulnerable and broken and hurt. Steve couldn't stand seeing him like this, it hurt him. But, he put on a brave face and controlled his emotions, and approached his partner's bed. He took a chair and sat down on it. "I love you, Danno. I know you can fight this. I'm here for you, always."

Fourteen days later, Friday, 5:30 PM

"Jesus Christ Steven, will you stop being such a mother hen and leave me the hell alone" argued Danny, looking at his partner sitting right beside his bed. A few days ago, he was cleared out of the ICU and was now transferred to a regular room. Ever since, Steve suddenly became overprotective and never left his side. He did appreciate it, but at the same time, it was a little too much for him.

"Danny, the doctor said that you should take your meds by 5 PM, and that was half an hour ago. Stop giving me a hard time and take your meds" replied Steve, slowly getting angry at his partner who failed to follow the doctor's orders.

"Steve, I'm fine, I don't need pain meds, alright?"

"The doctor trusted you, Danny. I can just call a nurse and they'll give you the medication right through the IV pole" he countered, with a little smirk on his face.

Danny sighed in defeat. "When did you become such a pain in the ass. Actually, scratch that, you always were one" shot back Danny, glaring at his partner.

"Whatever you say, buddy. I'm just looking out for you" said Steve, as he now gave his partner a more affectionate look.

"I know that, and I really appreciate it. It's just that I don't need to take these pain meds all the time. I feel good, I just wanna go home" replied Danny, in a now more serious tone.

"I know, pal. But if you don't take them you won't be able to go home. Even if you don't feel pain all the time, it's still the doctor's orders, and he knows better than the both of us" responded Steve.

Danny just gave in and took his pain meds that were sitting on the little metal plate right next to him. H knew his partner was right.

"So, you talked to Melissa yet?" asked Steve, trying to change the subject.

"Yeah, I did, and I told her that I'm still planning on cooking her dinner, I'm just trying to improve my romance skills" he responded.

Steve shot him a smile. "That's cute. Maybe you can finally take your relationship to the next level."

"Whoa whoa whoa, slow down Rambo. You're in no place to judge my relationship status" yelled out Danny.

"I'm just trying to make a conversation, giving you advice, relax" defended Steve, as he shrugged.

"Yeah, well we're fine, don't worry Dr. Phil" retorted the Jersey native detective.

"That's funny. Rest, you're annoying me already" voiced the ex-Navy Seal.

Danny then glared at his partner, and a couple of seconds later he looked back at him. "On a serious note Steve, thanks for everything" he said, shooting him a smile.

"Anytime, Danno" he replied, giving him back a smile of his own.

A/N There it is! Tell me how you feel about it! I don't know, I just felt like writing this one. I know it doesn't seem as good as my other stories, but it's just a one-shot I felt like posting and writing, because I missed Steve and Danny and the bromance :) But, it's a promise that my next story will be really good! Bromance, whump, emotion and action guaranteed! As always, thanks for reading!
