I'll continue the story if I people like it. Note this will have plenty of Historical inaccurancies but this is fan fiction so who cares?

Emiliano Suarez was King of Spain, a wise and just man, who the people of Spain adored. In his youth he was called to Mexico to fight against the Italian Empire that had enslaved the Mexicans. He answered the call to fight and brought along an army of his most loyal and highly trained comrades. For many years the Mexicans and Spaniards fought against the Italians and though there was bloodshed it ended in a victory for Emiliano, his men, and the Mexicans. However the people of Mexico's homes had been destroyed during the war so he chose to stay in Mexico and help the peasants rebuild their homes.

He sent a ship back to Spain to bring back his three most precious possessions. The records of Spain's royal family, the Suarez family jewels, and his bride the beautiful Carmela Lorena De La Vega. Upon arrival Emiliano and Carmela were married almost immediately and he had a palace built for them along with all the homes of the Mexican peasants which were restored. The royal couple lived happily and in time they had children, three daughters: Anita, Nikita, and Fridaniella.

The Suarez family spent their days together attending grand parties, events, and celebrations. Each one was wonderful but best of all was the one held in honor of the twentieth anniversary of Emiliano's victory over the Italians. A celebration so grand that he even invited his mother in-law Dona Sandra De La Vega from Spain to join them. Now Sandra loved her daughter Carmela and her granddaughters so very much but she had a special bond with her youngest granddaughter Fridaniella. A bond so strong and loving that they looked forward to each visit she made. Fridaniella was twelve years old on that night and when her grandmother arrived she begged her not to return to Spain.

"Please don't go back Grandmammi." Begged the blue eyed, little girl in a Spanish pink gown with her blue hair tied back with a silk ribbon.

"I'm sorry my dear but I must." The old woman wearing a gold frock and velvet coat said as she packed her bags.

"Why can't you stay with us?"

"Because your mother and father have chosen to stay here and protect Mexico so I must return to Spain and rule in their place until your sister Anita comes of age."

"But I always miss you when you're gone."

"I know my pequeno. Which is why I brought you this."

The old woman handed her granddaughter a little box made of ivory with pink roses and a blue butterfly painted on it. She then stuck a gold key into the box's hole, turned it three times, and the box opened to reveal two porcelain figurines of a gentleman and a lady dancing as sweet music played.

"When your mother was young she used to hate it when your grandfather and I went away on royal business so I had this music box made for her so she wouldn't be so sad while we were gone and since you're a music lover like she is I figured you'd like it too."

"Oh Grandmammi." Fridaniella said as she watched the figures dance. "I love it. Thank you."

"Sandra. It's time for you to leave." A gruff but gentle voice said.

A man, tall and strong with black hair, dressed in a royal suit entered the room with a beautiful brown haired, blue eyed, woman wearing a silver gown and jeweled garments. They were the royal couple Emiliano and Carmela Suarez.

"Mama, Papa look what Grandmammi gave me." Fridaniella said showing her parents the music box.

"My old music box, oh it's just as beautiful as I remember it." Carmela said.

"I hope you don't mind dear." Sandra said.

"I don't, she'll love it but Mother are you sure you don't want to stay for the ball?"

"Yes. The dinner was lovely Carmela but a woman my age can't handle ballroom dancing anymore."

"Very well then. Have a safe trip back Mother."

"Thank you hija."

Sandra kissed Carmela and Fridaniella goodbye then left to catch the ship that would take her back to Spain.

"I wish Grandmammi could stay with us." Fridaniella sighed.

"I know hija but you'll see her again." Emiliano assured her. "Now will you accompany us to the ball and honor me with the first dance?"

"I'd love to Papa."

The ballroom was aglow with golden and silver lights, majestic music, and noble men and women dancing together happily. The older Suarez daughters Princess Anita and Nikita were dancing with potential suitors while Emiliano had Fridaniella in his arms dancing. Carmela watched them all with a proud and happy smile on her face.

"Oh Papa." Fridaniella laughed as he spun her through the air.

"You're light on your feet hija." He said smiling.

"Thank you Papa."

"Mind if I cut in?" Carmela asked.

"Of course mi amore." Emiliano put her down. "Pardon me hija but I'd like to share a dance with your mother."

He then took his wife by the hand and they began to waltz. All that dancing had made Fridaniella hungry so she went to get a snack for the table.

"Little thief!" She heard an angry voice snap. She looked over to see the head of the servant's quarters scolding someone. It was a boy who had tried to sneak a pastry off the table. His name was Manny Rivera, a Mexican orphan boy who worked in the kitchen.

"These are for the guests not a little urchin like you! And what are you doing out of the kitchen anyway?!" The angry man shouted.

"I was hungry." Manny said.

"Hungry? No one cares if you're hungry! No one cares if you starve! And a palace is no place for a thieves so maybe I should throw you back out on the streets!"

"Wait!" Fridaniella objected. "He didn't steal anything! I...I...I gave it to him."

"But your highness why would you give him your food?"

"Because he looked hungry so since he didn't steal anything he doesn't need to be punished."

"I suppose." He said glaring at Manny. "But I've got my eye on you."

He fixed his suit then walked off. While his back was turned Manny stuck his tongue out at him then looked back at Fridaniella.

"Thanks." He told her.

"No problem but don't you have anything to eat where you live?"

"I live in the kitchen and I eat leftover scraps." He said eating the pastry.

"Really? Well if you want I could sneak you food from my dinner table."

"Won't you get into trouble?"

"No, I'm the princess so I can do whatever I want."

"Okay." He said finishing his treat.

"Well aren't you gonna join the party?"

"No I'm a kitchen boy so I'm not allowed to go to these parties."

"Well I'm the princess and I say you can so come on."

That ball was the last celebration held in that palace for just a week later the bright and colorful world of the Suarez family was destroyed. A vengeful general of the Italian army had sparked a revolution and came to Mexico with hundreds, thousands of Italian mercenaries to destroy the Suarez family. It was in the middle of the night when they came charging into the palace. One solider told the family that they would help them escape.

"Hurry children we must escape while we still can." Emiliano said urging his family to follow the solider in the back way.

"Wait my music box!" Fridaniella rushed back down the hall.

"Fridaniella come back!" Carmela called.

She hurried into her bedroom and grabbed her music box. She was just about to go join her family in the back room when she felt someone grab her arm. It was Manny.

"Don't go that way!" He told her. "It's a trap! There are mercenaries waiting in there to kill you!"

"What are you talking about?"

"I heard them talking about it! That solider who's supposed to be helping you, he's a traitor!"

"That can't be."

But his words were proven true when she heard four gun shots coming from the backroom.

"There's one missing!" They heard a man shout. "Find her!"

"Come this way! Out the servant's quarters!" Manny took her hand and led her to a secret door in the wall.

"But what about my family?" She asked.

"It's too late for them! Run!"

"But-"

"Go!"

Her hand slid from his as they bid each other farewell. Then he pushed her through the door way, shut the door, and locked it. The boy was soon discovered by the mercenaries who had slaughtered the royal family. They roughed him up a bit but they didn't kill him. They were too busy searching for the princess who had become so scared and horrified as she ran through passageway which led outside of the palace. But in her haste to escape she tripped over a root, dropped her music box, and fell down into the darkness below.

On that terrible night the Italians had successfully destroyed the Suarez family and their revenge was complete. Without Emiliano's defences they could easily takeover Mexico without anyone to stop them. When Sandra heard the news she was heartbroken, she had lost so many people she loved all in one night. The only person she had left was her niece Jean who comforted her devastated aunt as she suffered through the pain of never seeing her beloved family again.
