Hey, Ya'll. Alot of us were really disappointed with the way the Harm and Mac reunion went on NCIS LA, so, like several other writers, I decided to fix the problem. This is my story of how Harm and Mac reunite. Hope you all enjoy.
Harm and Mac stayed at the restaurant in Saudi Arabia for awhile, sitting at a separated table from the NCIS team from LA.
They were discussing what had gone wrong with their relationship to keep them apart for nine years.
"We're way past letting fate decide." Mac told Harm. She also addressed the elephant in the room that they had both tried to ignore.
"Mac, what can I say? You're right. We were both scared and we let fear decide our fates." Harm agreed.
"We, let our heads rule our hearts. We're both in careers that we love, but look where it's left us? Successful, yeah, but still alone." his ex observed.
Harm sighed. "Mac... I...seeing you after nine years... all those feelings came rushing back. I've tried to bury it for years. I guess that's why I love being on the carrier. I'm always busy. When I'm busy, I don't have time to think." Harm looked down and then back up at Mac before continuing, "I don't have to think about how much I still love you."
Mac softened at Harm's admission. "I can relate. And I still love you, too, Harm. But is love enough? I've always loved you, but we still couldn't make it work."
"So what now? Where does that leave us?" Harm wanted to know.
"Back at the beginning?" Mac suggested.
Harm looked at Mac intently. "You mean, start over?"
Mac nodded, an anxious expression on her face. "Essentially, yes. Harm, after seeing you, I don't want to just go back to never speaking or seeing you again. However, I don't want to rush in to anything after being separated for so long."
"So we start out as friends again and see where it goes from there." Harm stated, a smile slowly gracing his features.
"That works for me, Sailor." Mac replied with a soft smile in return.
After a pause, she added. "Wow. Nine years. We have so much to catch up on."
Harm scoffed with a chuckle, "Well, that's an understatement. Besides working for SecNav, what have you been up to all this time, Marine?"
"Well, I visit Chloe whenever I can. She has a horse ranch just outside of town. Bud and Harriet brought our Godkids out for a week not long ago. I guess you know that AJ is studying at the academy in Annapolis."
"Yeah. Bud told me. He's going to be a fighter pilot. Bud also informed me that our firstborn Godson is at the top of his class."Harm answered
"The twins are both involved in sports: Nikki in gymnastics and Zach is playing baseball. Jimmy is on the chess team this year, too."
Harm shook his head. "It's hard to believe that those four are almost all grown up. And that Bud is now a CO at The JAG offices in Norfolk and a Captain."
Mac grinned. "Time flies. How's Mattie?"
"She's doing great. She's a commercial pilot, so she travels all over the world. I hardly ever get to see her, but we email quite a bit and she calls from time to time. But, consideringwhat she went through and how hard she worked to get where she is today, I'm just so grateful she's living her life to the fullest. " Harm fondly spoke of his adopted daughter as he swallowed the lump in his throat.
"That's good that she's happy, though. Hey, did I tell you that Jen Coates was eventually promoted to Liutenent J.G. and she got her law degree. She's now the Shipboard JAG on the Patrick Henry." Mac informed the Captain.
"Really? I knew she was going to law school but I didn't know she was already starting her career." Harm responded, impressed.
"Really. She emailed me the other day and said she likes it there. She was on the Seahawk years ago as Bud's legal aide, so it was easier for her to get that billit." confirmed Mac.
Then Harm gave an update on some more old friends of theirs. "Sturgis and Vereese are stationed in Naples, Italy now. Sturgis is heading up the JAG feild office there. They have an eight year old and a six year old, both girls."
"I know. I still keep in touch with them sporadically. It's hard with the time differences and our schedules." Mac explained, to which Harm replied, "I hear you, there."
"The admiral came to see me a few weeks ago. He's really enjoying spending time with Francesca, and now he has two grandsons. Hard to picture." Mac mused.
"It really is. Although he was always pretty good with the kids we came in contact with on cases." was Harm's reply.
"And he did deliver AJ Roberts in his office and that baby a few years later at Christmas." Mac pointed out.
At that moment, Mac and Harm looked up to see that everyone else was getting ready to leave. It was time for the restaurant to close down.
"I don't want this night to end." Mac lamented with a sigh.
"Me either." was the grim response.
"How are we going to make this work?" wondered the Marine.
"We just have to make it work. We are our own worst enemies. We can't let fear win this time." Harm insisted.
"Right." Mac replied, adding. "We'll make a plan to email at least once a day and phone calls at least once a week to start."
Harm touched Mac's cheek gently, his eyes soft with affection. "That sounds good. I won't let anything get in the way this time, Sarah. I promise." Mac gave a sad smile at the use of her given name and at Harm's words. "Don't make a promise you can't keep."
Harm gave a small smile of his own. "I haven't yet." The two gave each other a quick peck on the lips and hugged tightly for a long moment. Then they headed their separate ways, each trying to hide the tears pricking their eyes.
Almost two years after that fateful meeting, Mac returned from yet another mission. She checked her mail and found an invitation to AJ Roberts' graduation from the academy. A big smile lit up her face as she dialed Harriet to RSVP. She was sure Harm had received the same invitation, and she knew he wouldn't miss this for the world, either. They would finally be reuniting in person once again.
Well, there's the first chapter. It gets more exciting as it goes on. I hope to update on Friday. Thanks for reading! Catch ya later.
