Chapter 1 Lost and New Life

Save Yourself by My Darkest Days

Red Hood or Nathan enter in this new world after breaking into the Batcave and used the teleportation device to be set here. He was amazed by how similar this earth was to his. The only difference was that this earth was free. Superman didn't kill Luthor and the League was still a pinnacle of hope. Nathan has heard about the Lords fighting the League, he had to see if he could help. But by the time he got there, the battle was already over. All he could do was stand on the rooftop and watch as the Lords get arrested.

His battle is over.

But why did he not feel satisfied with that? Shouldn't he be glad?

He could continue to question his feelings but he felt something behind him. He quickly turned around with his guns out at the person in front of him. He was a little surprised to see it was Batman. Not his Batman though. He then holstered his guns.

"Why are you here?" Batman asked.

"I wanted to help defeat the Justice Lords and end their madness. Seems you beat me to the punch," Red Hood explained.

"You were going to kill them weren't you?" The Dark Knight said.

"If it came to it," He simply said.

"Then you wouldn't be any better than them. Especially when one of them was your mother."

Nathan was shocked that this Batman figured it out but this was Batman we are talking about.

"How did you know?" Nathan asked.

"Your Batman told me. He told me everything and...I'm sorry," Batman answered, remembering the talk he heard with his counterpart.

"Why are you apologizing?" The young man asked, not understanding why he was saying sorry.

"Because despite us being from different worlds, we are still family. I know that you have suffered and I know that my counterpart helped played a role in that. I don't condone his actions but I do understand them," The Bat explained.

"You think him placing me with Minato and Kushina was his way of providing protection?"

"He needed a way to make sure you were safe."

Nathan clutched his hands into a fist, cracking and close on blood drawing out, but kept his anger in check.

"They were human shields. They died so I could live. I never asked for any of this. But I learned a good lesson that day as I watched them dying in a gutter for no reason at all," Nathan said, remembering the night that started it all and the lesson he learns.

"And what was that?" Batman asked.

"That the world only makes sense if you force it to."

The Dark Knight was quiet, knowing that lesson.

"I can understand that lesson well and I'm sure your father does too," He said.

"If he did he should've been fighting the Lords in the beginning and not helping them take control. Even if he did minimalize casualties, there is still blood in his hands," The hooded young man said.

"You're probably right but I know he will be atoning for his sins for as long as he lives."

"I doubt it will be enough."

Nathan then decides to leave, no longer wanting to be here and leave at once.

"Where will you go?" Batman asked, getting Red Hood to stop and face him to answer the question.

"The Lords either destroyed or restricted much of our world's historical landmarks. I'm going to see finally see them after all these years," Nathan answered.

"And then what? You'll go back to your world? The Red Hood might be needed there," The Dark Knight reminded.

Nathan then takes off his helmet, showing his black hair with blonde streaks and ocean blue eyes, and drops it in the ground.

"The Red Hood is dead. He did a fair amount of bad things to achieve freedom. My world doesn't need him. Not anymore."

And Nathan leaves Batman to do what he set out to, find a calling and find himself.

Greek, Temple of the Gods

Nathan enters the ancient pantheon of gods to figure out why he was supposed to be here. Ever since he learned of his true heritage and coming to Earth 12, he has been confused and lost. It was then that he began to receive visions of this place and voice telling him to come.

Nathan didn't want to come here but he needed to know why. As soon as he walks past the gods of old, a bright light shines before him. He covers his eyes until the light dies down. It is then that he sees a beautiful woman with silver hair, silver eyes, and silver armor, standing before him. He can tell that this was no ordinary woman.

"Who are you?" Nathan asked.

"I am Artemis, goddess of the moon and of the hunt. And you Nathaniel Wayne will become my champion," The Goddess of the Moon introduced herself and offered a big offer to the young man.

"Why? Why me?" He asked, being puzzled about why Artemis will pick him.

"I have seen the past and felt the conflict inside of you. You believed you were one person but now you were told that you were another. This shakes you to your very core. but it doesn't have to be that way. I can help achieve understanding and with it, you will become stronger than you ever thought possible," Artemis explained.

Nathan was quiet for moments before letting a sigh and said, "You are correct. I am conflicted. I have no idea what to do but I am uncertain that I'm worthy of being your champion. I've caused chaos and mayhem in the name of freedom. A person like me is better left to the cruel hands of fate."

"I've borne witness to your fate and it was not a pleasant one. It is one of the reasons why I am here now. To change the course of your destiny into something better," The silver-haired goddess said.

"I imagine that would cause problems?"

"The sisters of Fate may see many things but even they can't predict the unpredictable. Become my champion and I promise you that you will find peace."

Nathan found that to be a lovely offer but he was still unsure of it. However, if he could find the peace it's possible he could be something more than what he was. The Red Hood was a symbol of anarchy and while it produced results, a lot of people got hurt because of it. Perhaps if he becomes Artemis' champion, he could be the hero that his adopted family believed he could be. With that in mind, the choice was clear.

"Very well, I will be your champion," Nathan said as he kneels before the Goddess of the Moon and Hunt herself.

"Excellent. From this day forth, Nathaniel Wayne, you shall be known as Moon Knight, champion of the Hunt and enforcer of my will. While the night may be dark and full of terrors, a sliver of light will always shine to give hope to those who need it. Rise Moon Knight and go fight against injustice," Artemis said, having a new hero, champion, and hunter be born.

A silver light shins around Nathan as he stands and was ready to take a big step into this new world as something new to be better.

Time Skip

Nathan was relaxing in his house in New York as the city has no main heroes and works well as a starting point for the young man's new life to take shape. He knows he has a long way to go and start his changing. He knows he is not a good person but maybe something can happen to change that thought of himself.

Then all a sudden, Nathan got word from Batman to meet up with him on a rooftop in Gotham. He was wondering why his father's counterpart would want to meet him. Then again, he is Bruce Wayne's son even if this Bruce Wayne wasn't his father. In any case, he respects this Batman more than his father so he'll give him the benefit of the doubt. So Nathan wears his gear and sets out to meet him.

When he got to the location, he saw not only Batman but Wonder Woman as well. Not his mother but her counterpart. She looks to be the hero that history once said his mother was. The plot thickens. They currently haven't seen him yet, though Nathan is certain that Batman knows he's here. It was time to reveal himself.

"You wanted me, here I am," Moon Knight said, getting their attention.

"We need to talk," Wonder Woman said.

"About?" Moon Knight asked.

"I told her Nathan," Batman said, getting to the point.

Moon Knight wasn't surprised by this revelation.

"You don't seem surprised," Wonder Woman said.

"I imagine in any Earth being the son of Batman gives one the ability to not show one's emotions easily," The white-capped hero said.

Batman looked down a bit sad about this fact, low blow.

"I want to see you. I want to see the face of my son," Wonder Woman said.

"I am not your son. Not in this Earth," Moon Knight reminded with a shake of his head, not sure, but a part of him wants too.

"I don't care. I want to see him."

Nathan then looked to Batman who nodded his head to him. Nathan figured this might happen someday, better now than later. He sighed and so he let down his hood and took off his mask, revealing his face. Wonder Woman looked at him with an awed expression. She walked closer to Nathan and began to touch his face.

In any given situation, he wouldn't let anyone he disliked near him. But this was his mother. Or rather the person she used to be. And while she may be of different earth, Nathan can see her purity of heart. This was the Wonder Woman he hoped to be seen. The mother was supposed to choose a family instead of remaining a tyrant. She chose the wrong side. But at least in this Earth, the League was saved from that fate and Nathan will make sure it stays that way.

While Wonder Woman took her time analyzing everything in Nathan's face, Nathan felt almost at peace, but the pain of his family's actions and his own on his Earth remain with him. Peace will take a long time to achieve. Eventually, Wonder Woman spoke.

"Tell me everything," Wonder Woman said.

"If you wish," Nathan said.

Nathan had finished explaining his story to Wonder Woman. And throughout the whole thing, Wonder Woman had tears in her eyes. Wonder Woman then hugged him.

"I'm so sorry," She said.

Nathan was hesitant at first but then hugged her.

"It's not your fault," Nathan said.

Wonder Woman soon ended the hug.

"You shouldn't have had to live through so much tragedy," Wonder Woman said.

"It's nothing I'm not used to," Nathan said.

"I used to think the same way. I was wrong. I'm sure your father thought the same way once," Batman said.

"My father was a manipulative bastard but even he still maintained his code. I guess I should be thankful for that. But just because both of you are the counterparts of my parents doesn't mean you are responsible for me. I've been fine on my own for a long time, having a family was never in the cards for me," The young man said.

"It doesn't have to be that way here. Bruce and I can try to be the parents you wanted," The Amazon said.

It was a good offer but the young man wasn't sure of it.

"It's a tempting offer but I can't let you do that. I do not doubt that you are good people. Better than the ones I know. But I've lied, cheated, and killed to achieve my goals. I'm no better than them. All I can do now is atone and hope that it's enough," Nathan said, honestly.

Nathan put on his mask and raised his hood and began to leave. Wonder Woman wanted to stop him but Batman placed his hand on her shoulder to stop her.

"You may have been those things in your world but in this one, you can be better. We can help you," Batman offered.

Moon Knight stopped and slightly looked back at them.

"You don't want to be associated with me. A killer," Moon Knight said, having his voice lowered.

"You haven't met some of the people I've had to work with over the years. And while they were pragmatic allies, you are my son. And if you need us, we will be there," The Dark Knight said, having his words hitting the young man to the core.

Moon Knight thought about that, it sounds good, but he wasn't sure yet and will think over that. He then turned to see them fully and eventually nodded his head.

"I shall keep that in mind. Thank you."

Moon Knight then jumps off the rooftop. Batman and Wonder Woman look over the edge and see he was already gone.

"He is your son," Wonder Woman commented.

"I just hope I can help him. I may not be a good father but I try to be," Batman said, not wanting to have Nathan lose himself in the dark and being there for him.

"Don't be so hard on yourself Bruce. You did well with your family. You are in no way a perfect parent but you aren't a bad one," The Amazon Princess said.

"I hope you are right," The Dark Knight said.

The young man has a long road ahead of him to atone for his sins and make sure his new path starts clean for the better. Hopeful he can open up and fix the damage that was done but the road of healing will take a while. It's going, slowly and will get there on time.

Moon Knight decided to make a pit stop. He wanted to meet some old friends, the Justice Lords. He wanted to see their miserable faces behind bars and put the past behind him. Batman told him that they were placed in a heavily fortified underground prison. Essentially impossible to break into. Well, he is well known for doing the impossible.

Time Skip

Within the prison was the infamous Justice Lords. Each locked up and powerless. Nathan couldn't stop the smirk on his face when he saw them. He then walks up to Lord Superman in his red sun prison.

"Who are you?" Lord Superman asked.

"An old enemy paying a visit," Moon Knight simply replied.

"Never met you before," The Lord Man of Steel said.

"Not like this but you do know me. I was once known as the Red Hood," The white-capped hero said.

Lord Superman looked at him with rage

"You! I should've killed you first before coming here," He promised, making a mistake and won't make the same one.

"That was your mistake," Moon Knight said.

"So that's why you are here? To gloat?"

"No. I came to watch all of you suffer."

Then all of a sudden gas was coming into the Lord's cages. They were all coughing and starting to have their vision going crazy a bit.

"What have you done?" Lord Superman demand.

"I took some of Scarecrow's fear toxins during my stay in Gotham and made some special variations for each of you. Don't worry it won't kill you but you will be begging for death," Moon Knight answered, feeling some pain in his heart be lifted on seeing the Lord's pay for their crimes. Not death, but by fear and punishment.

"This world's Justice League would never allow this," The Lord Man of Steel said, knowing the counterparts won't allow this.

"That is why they don't know about this. Deep in their core, they are good people. People who never want others to suffer. But the difference between them and me is that deep down I'm not a good person and know that. I'm willing to do what they can't if it means saving them and change for the better. I won't allow this Justice League to become like you," The Hero of the Moon promised before turning around and take his leave.

As Moon Knight starts his leaves, he stops by and sees the cell of his mother who is looking at him

"Please don't do this. Please, Nathan. I'm begging you for forgiveness," Lady Wonder Woman said, begging for her son to help, forgive, and free her.

Moon Knight or Nathan wasn't going to do that as his heart still feels pain on what Lady Wonder Woman had done in their world and felt no helping her whatsoever. He didn't felt that peaceful connection like he did with this world Wonder Woman. So, his mind is made up.

"There is no forgiveness to be given. Goodbye, my foolish mom and pray we never meet again," Moon Knight said, leaving the Lords to their punishment.

Moon Knight or Nathan knows his past and redeeming was a long way to fix but this was a start and push the past behind him towards the future of a new path that he is walking on.

...

AN: Now that's that and very glad at this chapter. Now the next chapter needs some ideas on what happens next. Like maybe something to help Nathan forgive himself and move, maybe a lady to help him. Who knows, but will see all next time :)

Lord Batman: After discovering he's his birth father, he has a rocky relationship because of what the Lords have done to the world. When he learns Lord Batman is actually against the other Lord's ways, they have a better relationship and Lord Batman gives Nathan his blessing to go to the League's world and live there because he knows Nathan deserves to live his own life somewhere not tainted by the Lord's work.

Lady Wonder Woman: On the rocks for the most part. She wants to love him as her son but because he refuses to support the Lord's work she is conflicted about whether to stop him or not. Her loyalty to the Lords eventually wins out.

Wonder Woman: Actually have a good relationship though she is worried about bringing Nathan to Themyscara for any reason. Mostly because she doesn't want her sisters to kill her son from an alternate universe.

Batman: Surprisingly good relationship though it takes some time due to Bruce not expecting the situation from happening in the first place. Though Bruce comes through as a parent when he is needed the most. He encourages Nathan's harem much to Diana's chagrin.

Red Hood: When Nathan heads to earth 12 he explores the world to see the differences between his old world and this one. While exploring he is given a small mission by Batman on an island. Red Hood happened to be investigating the island as well and originally come at odds until they are both captured and have to work together. They both earn each other's respect and Red Hood becomes Nathan's number one choice in an ally when needed and vice verse for Red Hood. Their alliance becomes even better when Nathan officially joins the bat family

Nightwing: While exploring the world he ends up in Bluudhaven. He ends up teaming with Nightwing while there. When Nathan takes an attack aimed at Nightwing he earns Nightwing respect. Nathan, Nightwing, and Red Hood form their own group known as the trinity of the night when they all team together.

Batfamily: Nathan as Moon Knight is already an ally to most of them especially Batman himself, however, once Nathan officially joins the group he proves to be a valued ally and friend to the team bringing his own takes on dealing with meta threats due to his own powers.

Bane (have an odd rivalry to prove who is the better warrior between the two): Enemies for the most part. Bane originally goes after him to break him and leave him as a message for Batman. However, their battle ends in Nathan's victory Bane, however, enjoyed the battle even more than when he fights Batman because Nathan has Bruce's intelligence but also strength greater than Bane's meaning he is a better challenge. From there Bane wants to prove himself against Nathan and whenever he is arrested Nathan visits him in Arkham, having a game of chess with him. Bane, however, will help Nathan sometimes because to Bane only he should be allowed to beat Nathan in a fight.

Mr. Freeze: Nathan is sympathetic to the villain but will still bring him in if necessary. However, Nathan will also try and find items Mr freeze needs legally to help cure his wife. This making Freeze grateful for any help the blonde gives him.
