AN: Me Own Nothing.

"The analysis came in… and we found nothing which proves that the person you caught is the killer," Aizawa said. "The bodies died of asphyxiation. Now, normally you would find fingerprints all over the body, but somebody went out of their way to make sure none were left on them. Well, lifting a fingerprint off clothes and skin is troublesome, and when I through all that effort and found out there are no fingerprints because the arsehole wiped them clean? Not a pleasant feeling, mate."
"And if that wasn't enough, the person then dumped a trashcan or sewer water on them– look, there's a lot of biological signatures in it. Makes my work way harder. I mean," he laughed nervously, "Otherwise, we don't have one murderer; we have around fifty of them." the man waved his hands dismissively at the report he was giving to Matsuda. "Or maybe we have a death cult going around murdering people here. Would explain all that stuff on the bodies," the man laughed at his joke, "Did I tell you about that time I worked in a small town near Tokyo, and there actually was a death-"
"Not the time," Matsuda cut Aizawa's monologue short. Aizawa always found a way to tell them that story every time they met. He grabbed the required report from the desk and ran away from him as quickly as he could.
"Man runs like the Devil is on his wheels. Then again, his boss is Kudo, so a 'Devil' would almost be an improvement," Aizawa muttered. "Oi! Matsuda! Next time bring me some fingerprints from around the room, you idiot!"
"This was avoidable," Kudo growled. "If you had taken some more fingerprints from the area around the body, then forensics might have given conclusive proof this Kazuki is responsible.
Matsuda wanted to hit himself for his stupidity. How could he make such a… stupid mistake?
"No use crying about it now," Kudo sighed. "The only thing of use is making sure this doesn't happen again." Kudo took a deep breath. "So, let's go through what you did wrong yesterday once again, Matsuda." he said.
Matsuda was almost thrown off his seat as Kudo slammed the brakes. He was driving as fast as he legally could… exactly as fast as he legally could. Kudo said it was a skill, but in Matsuda's opinion, it was more of a curse for the people around him.
The car started just as abruptly as it stopped, pushing him into his seat. "Well, Matsuda, I am still waiting for your answer." Kudo was a nice guy, he reminded himself. A bit of a troll at times, but definitely a nice guy. He was definitely nicer than most of the people he had the displeasure of working under. Though if somebody asked for an arm and a leg to make this superior of his to stay quiet, then he would gladly donate his own.
"I-I failed to…" he forced the words past his nausea. 'Somebody must be shoving nails inside my skull,' he decided – there was no other way to describe the headaches he was having. Must be the universe conspiring to fuck him over as badly as possible, "…I failed to secure the crime scene or ask for help after securing all those bodies."
Kudo hummed thoughtfully, "Well, this works… Anything else you want to add to that, Matsuda?"
If he wanted to be taught like this, then he would have stayed behind in school. Well, to be fair, he did screw up yesterday. "I rushed into the scene before asking for some more backup…?"
"That sounds more like a question than a statement, kid," he said. "Nothing else you wanna' say? "
Matsuda rolled his eyes at Kudo. It would have been a long ride without a headache, and it was even longer now that he had a headache. And he thought unsavory criminals would be the worst thing he would have to deal with as a cop.
Yesterday during night time, the house looked out of the place in the city. At least it was when Matsuda reached it… which might have been because it was the only house with the lights on. It wasn't even that late, for God's sake.
In daylight, however, the house looked ordinary. Not a thing out of place here, sir. Definitely no bodies were found here. It just sort of melded into the rows of identical houses next to it. Looking much like soldiers standing in a straight line, or the school kids climbing onto a bus looking pretty similar with the same uniform… though that might be because he is bad with faces. He wondered how Kazuki even brought the bodies inside his house with all these potential witness points of view to. If there was one thing he had learned from constantly moving around then it was the fact that nosy neighbors were an immutable part of life and the bane of criminals.
"Did I tell you about that woman who I could have sworn had wired my house? I mean, she knew stuff. Anyway, most of these houses are empty. Have been for a longtime," Kudo said.
'He spoke all that out loud, didn't he?'
"Yes, you did. Well, I am pretty sure I gave you those reports when you joined. People go missing with an alarming frequency here, so this place is usually more of a temporary housing for people waiting for better residencies to… vacate," Kudo laughed nervously, "I mean, why would you stay here if larger, better houses closer to the city center are going to be free sooner or later?"
"Then why do people stay here, in this town? I mean, if somebody told me a bunch of people regularly go missing…" he asked, looking around the empty streets.
"Hmm… well, you will find out if you stay here for long enough," the man shrugged, "Most of the people who survive the disappearances seem to have the luck of the Devil," he laughed suddenly, probably an inside joke. Kudo had a ton of them. "Almost everyone in this town gets richer and richer, well, at least as long as they don't disappear."
Matsuda laughed awkwardly at the joke. Kudo had a strange sense of humor… though there might just be some truth in his words. He had never seen anyone out and about in the city late at night – everyone, even the police, tended to stay away from dark alleyways and other such places you would expect crimes to take place. And, more importantly, wasn't he in this town because his predecessor disappeared?
The bell rang loudly and clearly, almost making Matsuda jump out of his skin. Kudo chuckled quietly at seeing him jump. 'I take my last words back; Kudo is an asshole.'
The door opened just as Matsuda widened his mouth to curse Kudo. It was the blonde kid, the one he saw earlier with the girl.
"Pardon my intrusion," Kudo said, "however, we need to enter this house and search it for evidence." Matsuda was still a little embarrassed because of the incident yesterday. It was his fault they had to enter the house again, after all. "While we did retrieve all the bodies from here, due to someone," Kudo mock glared towards him, "the investigations weren't completed properly."
"Okay, then," the kid said stoically, "You can enter inside, officers."
The house was nice, and dare he say, almost cute in a 'small house for four' kind of way. Not the kind of place you would expect to find bodies lying about. Which might be why it was the perfect spot for a Jack the Ripper wannabe to live.
"Hey." Kaito – he could vaguely remember his name. "Kaito, did you clean up your house after I took your father…" Great job, Matsuda, go ahead and remind the kid of his psychopathic father, " …Kazuki to the police station yesterday?" Matsuda asked, hoping the answer was 'no'.
"I am sorry, but I did clean that room. The investigation was supposed to be over, and I didn't want to sleep next to the room with a giant puddle of blood in it."
"Damn it," Kudo swore next to him. "Did you find anything suspicious while cleaning? Something which you didn't touch while cleaning the rooms? Maybe a knife or anything?"
"No, not really."
"Well, we would still like to have a look," Kudo declared. "We might find something you didn't. After all, we have received training for this while you haven't,"
"You can sit here with this kid, Matsuda. I think I will be better off by myself. Well, we better find some good evidence, because with the way things are right now, any decent lawyer would be able to finagle him out of jail."
'Why even bring me here if you are going to investigate all this by yourself?' Matsuda thought before shrugging. He had no problem with getting paid without doing all the work. the kid took the larger man upstairs, to the room the murder took place in.
"Tea?" The kid asked after showing Kudo the door. Well, at least some kids still have manners.
Soon, he had a piping hot cup of tea in his hand. It might even help his headache, which had returned with vengeance after the brief respite he had. the kid was sitting right in front of him with a statuesque stillness. He took a sip of the tea, wincing as he felt his headache get worse.
'Maybe I should have just asked for the day off,' Matsuda thought as he nursed his headache. The tea didn't help all that much. Why did he expect it to work again? The kid had stopped staring a while ago and was now fiddling with his phone, a self-satisfied grin on his face.
How long had it been again? Almost an hour had passed. Was Kudo searching for evidence or was he hiding bodies up there?
"Matsuda," speak of the Devil, "Matsuda! Come on, we need to go."
'Finally,' Matsuda sighed in relief. He felt he had stayed in this house for days. 'Fuck this house, and the ghosts of the poor souls killed here. They might just be haunting this place,' he place was going right into his 'Do Not Visit After Sunset' list.
For once, Kudo didn't utter a single word when he sat next to him in the car. the ride back was peaceful, almost suspiciously so. Then again, nobody would hear Matsuda complaining if Kudo had decided to be a little more thoughtful.
"So," he said after a while, "did you find anything interesting up on the second floor?"
Kudo didn't reply. He kept staring at the road pensively as they made their way down to the police station, settling down deeper into his seat as they drove smoothly. He might as well get some sleep while his superior drove. the house was a fair distance away from the main city, after all.
The last thing he saw as he drifted off to sleep was a blue-haired woman in risque clothing, sitting in the backseat.
[You have (indirectly) killed Kazuki!]
[You have (indirectly) killed Kudo!]
…
[You Have (indirectly) Killed Everyone in the Kuoh Police Station!]
You Have Levelled Up! You Have Levelled Up!
You have completed the quest, Home Run!
You have completed Bonus Objective II: Well, technically it wasn't you who used supernatural powers, so I guess I will give this to you.
You Have Levelled Up!
Because of your rampant killing of anything which gives you levels, you have received the title [Serial Killer].
Trait [Serial Killer]: Your spells damage and stats increase by one-tenth for ten seconds after killing someone. Most humans will instinctively fear and distrust you.
I sighed in relief at the string of notifications I get. This indirect killing spree was enough to level me up twice. Now, this might look like a senseless slaughter but I assure you that this was necessary!
Maybe. Well, I did not wish to see Kazuki's ugly mug ever again, and with the way things were going, he would be out pretty soon. If I killed him, and only him, it might point towards someone with a grudge towards him, and he was pretty vocal with his friends about how much he hated me.
As for the massacre linking back to me? I was inside this house the entire time. And I was decently sure it would be a little hard to believe I reached the police station from my house with a huge spear, sword and a gun. And then manage to kill everyone in the station.
As for the supernatural side of things, there was a reason I had Kalawarner do it. Even if the Devils couldn't sense the people were killed with a light spears or with the swords and guns the exorcists had, they could find the feathers Kalawarner was instructed to leave.
Plus, what was the worst which could happen to me? Yes, Murphy, I am taunting you. The worst thing was I couldn't order Kalawarner around in public, because that might be a little suspicious after a Fallen went on a murder spree. I had already been going around killing people, and thankfully police officers with guns and hardened criminals got you more EXP than hobos. I smirked, 'Quantity was a quality of its own, after all.'
Would you stop going around murdering every single fucking person? I mean, I am the one who has to go and calculate all those stats. Now, as for things which could go wrong?
The Devils might notice Kalawarner coming here. They could catch Kalawarner killing everyone. The humans could summon a Devil with one of those summoning circles. It could go wrong in many ways, and it was pure luck it didn't.
And while we are speaking about Devils, Sona is having a shitty day. Why? Because you killed her pet. No, she doesn't know you killed her pet. But she might find out.
'Or she might think a random stray Devil took a fancy to that thing. Or a Fallen Angel killed him, because almost everything which ends up dead is because of a Fallen Angel.'
Look, the point is, would it hurt you to be a little more careful? I swear if you get me killed alongside you, I will fuck your soul up in ways you can't even imagine before I perish.
'The Devils finding out about what?' Sure, they might find out I have been the one to do all the murders, but that didn't matter now with the stats I have. I was confident enough in the Boosted fucking Gear that I could run away from the town while evading both of the Devils and their peerages. Hell, I could just threaten to blow up a block or two if they didn't let me leave. It's not like I was above some casual murder.
And even if they found out I had done this, they didn't have any information which might lead them to believe I was anything more than a weak human mage. I doubt they would bring in the big guns – their siblings, whom I definitely couldn't outrun.
Yes, having a somewhat decent relationship with the Devils would have been nice, but I could just as easily ally with any other faction. Who knows, maybe I could find a faction which would give me a lot more resources and value me more than the Devils. And if they tried to tell the other factions about how I was an insane, psychopathic criminal, then I could just say they were Devils. Not just any Devils – the ones whose peerage I refused to join.
Just don't come crying to me when something bad eventually happens.
I laughed at those words. Don't worry, I wouldn't. Because nothing bad will happen.
Something bad happened.
The house… the house didn't have coffee. What kind of a man didn't keep coffee in his house! I growl in annoyance. I spent hours looking for it, spilled lots of stuff and didn't do anything but mess up even more.
Looks like I need to go and get myself my own coffee. I switched off the television. the only thing they were talking about was the 'Massacre'. Been on the news for some time by now, and the Devils definitely noticed that. I think there are a lot of familiars flying around, but I didn't feel up to figuring out whether it is true or not.
Oh, well, I hoped this world at least has some good coffee – hope that wasn't missing like loads of good stuff. Like DC comics. No Marvel either, which meant I was never finding out how Endgame ended. It was a shame, but there were some points where the worlds were remarkably similar.
Take this coffee. I expected it to taste like bootleg Starbucks, but it was actually good. Maybe even better than the one in my world. Which assuaged my worries about coffee just not being a thing when I found out Kazuki didn't have any in the kitchen.
"A penny for your thoughts?"A voice interrupted my thoughts.
"Well," I said absently, "just thinking about how good this coffee is." I would have been a lot more snappish if I didn't have the coffee, that's for sure. I looked up from my cup and saw a man standing in front of my table. 'Black hair with gold highlights?' the man had strange hair, as well as a cocky grin. For some reason he looked familiar. Definitely had an air of importance around him. Observe.
[Name: Azazel, the Kinkiest Fallen Angel, at least that's what everyone calls me]
[Bio: Ladies love him… and some men do too, but we don't talk about them]
Stats? Strong Enough to Kill You. Smart and Wise. Charisma? I have changed sexual orientations, kiddo.
Additional Info: Weird Divination magic you got here… the idea of making video game-themed spells and screens is interesting, though. I give you a six out of ten for effort.
'How the fuck did he…?'
Look, if you go around trying to observe someone multiple tiers above you, they notice. Why wouldn't they? I am not omnipotent or omniscient… though I can be both if you level up enough.
P.S.: Told You! Hah, "Nothing bad will happen."
The man stared at me with a twinkle in his eye. And I could smell his schadenfreude from here. "Shouldn't you be a little too busy managing the rest of the Fallen to come here?" I said.
"Shouldn't you be busy wasting time in schools instead of going around murdering my subordinates?"
"Uh…" Oh, shit, I hope he didn't particularly care about them, "I am sorry?"
The fallen sat down in front me, still smirking, "Well, they were going against my orders. Don't worry, I am not going to kill you," I could sense the 'yet', despite him not outright saying it. "Should I call you Diego or Kaito, kid?"
"Kaito," I grumble. I didn't really expect the Fallen Angels to tattle. the waiter came to the table and placed… something fancy in front of Azazel and bowed respectively.
"I own the restaurant," he explained, "Okay, so before we talk further, I have a question for you." Here, Azazel paused and looked right into my eyes, "How did you find out about the supernatural?"
"My uncle-"
"Now, before you start lying, hear me out. I don't want to sound creepy, but I researched on you before coming here. No Sacred Gear, no estranged relatives who practice magic, and you aren't even the descendant of a hero. Those sometimes lock some memories in their genes. Now, forgive me if I don't exactly understand how you suddenly know found out so much about the Grigori."
I remained silent for some time, staring at him for a few minutes. 'I am an inter-dimensional traveller who learned about you in an anime,' sounds insane. And might get him to try to siphon my memories out, because I doubted he would trust me if I told him about the future outright.
"Don't wish to reveal your secrets?" He chuckled. "Don't worry, I have a hypothesis which might be close to the truth. This isn't your body, is it?"
I laughed, "Don't be ridiculous-"
"So I am speaking the truth," he interrupted me, "Now, I would have fallen for that too, if I didn't know about a peculiar spell named [Mind Jar], made by the most infuriating human in existence, who I will only refer to as 'Snake Bastard'. Now, that man was a genius, despite his personality, and had developed a lot of spells and rituals. One of them allowed you to transfer your 'soul' into any random person weaker than you.
"It requires a certain aptitude to accomplish, so I assume you were a lucky middling magician who happened upon one of the many, many copies he made of his studies. Seriously, who leaves so many duplicate notes everywhere? And then you jumped into this guy right here." Azazel looked at me with gleaming eyes, "So, how right am I?"
"…" Now, he wasn't right at all, but this excuse was more convenient than anything I could come up with it.
"Normally at this point I would kill you," he grinned, "But you are useful. Now, I can't just admit you into Grigori, 'Red Dragon Emperor', mainly because infighting is a bitch. But that doesn't mean I can't use you." He grabbed a parchment from… somewhere. "Luckily enough, the position of Overseer of Kuoh did recently go empty, and you seem like a good candidate for that… after you sign this Geas. It's just a little insurance to make sure we don't screw each other over."
"Sure, let me sign away my free will…" I mutter.
"Now, don't give me that look," he pouted, "all it says is neither you nor a member of the Grigori would attack each other without due reason. Which is pretty much 'Don't majorly screw them over.'. Play your cards right, and you might even have the Grigori as your ally."
"I agree…" I would be a fool if I didn't, "…as long as you let me go through the contract. I am not getting tricked into signing into slavery."
"Fair enough," he said pleasantly, "Oh, and by the way, I can add another clause to our agreement if you agree. Since finding Fallen Angels who are willing to change their bodies or even have the aptitude required for using [Mind Jar] is difficult, I would be pleased if you work for me. You just need to run a few tests, maybe spy on some people. Of course that only happens after you learn the second spell I have for you."
"And you can always claim to have nothing to do with me if I get caught, right?"
"Glad to see I don't have to explain everything."
"Wait, isn't that spell supposed to send you into a random body?"
"Oh, Snake Face made another spell which makes sure your next spell targets the 'soul'. It is useful as it is, but with a spell like [Mind Jar] it's phenomenal. You get my copy of both the spells if you sign up."
The body switcher ability would be pretty useful. After all, my perk can turn any body I have into that of a Dragon, so it's not like I would be losing anything by jumping into them…
"Where do I have to sign?" I start reading the document, making sure nothing in fine print slips by me. Azazel really was sincere, because the terms were exactly what he said they would be. The terms were surprisingly generous given that Azazel was coming from a position of power.
I could have gotten a better deal out of this. I should have spent some more points on my Charisma. Bartering was not a skill I was any good at.
"Take this information as a freebie. Think of it as your signing bonus. There is this nun called Asia…"
[Obtained the Grimoire (Incomplete)!]

'Taking the contract was the right choice,' I reassured myself as I walked towards the airport. Even leaving aside the fact Azazel could have killed me at any point, I got a surprising amount of benefits. Hell, Azazel even said he might cover me against minor issues as a no-strings-attached favor.
And I got myself an Asia out of it.
Thankfully, her flight was right on schedule. All I had to do now was to find her among the crowd of thousands here. This makes it sound way harder than it is. After all, how many nuns would travel here, to a town in Japan with no previous church establishment?
I sighed as I spotted the all-too-familiar nun outfit from the show. She seemed nervous and jittery, like a child separated from her parents. And if all that wasn't a giveaway, she had an amazed expression on her face, looking all along her as if she was in a wondrous place. It was probably the first or second time she saw an airport, now that I think about it.
"Asia Argento?" I called out to her, "Hey, Asia!"
She turned towards me. I waved my hands around, beckoning her towards me. The people around her were staring at her, probably because of how out of place the nun outfit looked here in the city of Kuoh. She walked towards me, stumbling over a man's luggage. I laughed as she apologized the poor man who now looked extremely flustered. I walked towards them and embraced Asia as if she was a long-lost friend. She stiffened at the sudden contact.
"It's so nice to see you!" I gushed, "We all have been waiting eagerly for you to come here! Want to go and have a look around the town first, friend?"
Asia stared at me with a wide-eyed look on her face. Then she beamed, looking like a kid who was just told she was going to Disneyland. "F-Friend?"
"Well," I hope I won't regret this, "you are my friend, aren't you, Asia?"
She hesitated for a second, and then smiled even wider, more than I had seen anyone smile before "Y-Yes, we are friends!" I knew Asia was naïve, but holy shit how did she even reach this city without getting sucked into a hentai plot?
"Hop along then; we need to get you to your new home pretty quickly." I grab her suitcase with one hand. Then, I hold her hand and start moving towards my house. Something told me she would either fall or get lost if I didn't make sure to hold her hand the entire way. 'This is my excuse and I am sticking with it!'
Personally, I didn't really like Asia in the show. Sure, she was cute, kind and beautiful, basically the kind of ideal character who had no business existing in a realistic world. But I didn't really mind all those aspects of her. I hated her for all those times she practically cockblocked Issei. While it was hilarious in the show, I had no wish to suffer because of Asia's jealousy.
Now, do I take her to one of the dark alleyways and murder her for her Sacred Gear? I could say something like, "This big, cross-shaped machine is just here to boost your Twilight Healing. This will help you heal more people, you know!" That would fool her pretty easily. I could take her Sacred Gear for myself or just hand it over to Kalawarner… because why not?
I recommend against taking her Sacred Gear for someone else right now. The number of Points you get to unlock newer and better abilities are limited. You would have to alternate between upgrading either the Boosted Gear or Twilight Healing. While you could give this Gear to Kalawarner, she would have to figure out its uses herself and would only be able to heal basic cuts and bruises at the start. This Gear requires the knowledge of Biology to function, among other things, which would take time and experience – both of which Asia has in spades.
The best course of action in my opinion is to just get her on your side, and maybe take her Gear when you are done with maxing out the Boosted Gear. Which might take a fair amount of time.
Well, looks like Asia gets to live for now.
"So, where are we going, Mr…?" Asia asks.
"You can call me Kaito, Asia," I smile at her. "We are going to my house. It's where the Fallen Angels are living right now."
"May the lord bless you then, Kaito," Well, I would say 'Amen!' if God wasn't dead now. "I am sure he would be pleased to see you helping me out."I doubt he would be happy seeing me on the same continent as you. "Thanks for that! So, would you rather go sightseeing for some time, or would you rather we just head straight back home?" Please say home…
"Well…" She looked confused, and then shook her head. "Anything which Kaito decides would be fine by me!"
"Well, we can just go to my house for now. I am sure you are tired because of the jet lag. Don't worry, we can go ahead and explore the town some other day," Someday… when I am not as tired as today.
Nothing important looked broken when I got inside my house, which was always a plus. It wasn't exactly super-strength-proof, so I was really worried Kalawarner might end up breaking stuff. Like my father's bed. That needed to be replaced. I was too scared to ask why it was broken, and I didn't think Kalawarner was ever going to tell me.
"I thought there were more Angels here?" Asia asked when she realized Kalawarner was the only one there.
"Well, most of the other Angels had work to do, and she was the one who was supposed to keep a watch on you, Asia. Just don't remind her of her friends or her job often, she might feel a sad and miss them if you do." I said.
Asia just smiled sadly, and nodded. Wonderful. No need to test whether [Mind Control] can withstand constant prodding.
"Do you," I start after a few minutes of awkward silence, "know how to cook anything?" Because I was certain Kalawarner had forgotten how to cook. If Asia refused, then I would be the sole person in this house who knew how to cook.
"No, the other nuns usually cooked for everyone," she said. "But! I am willing to learn how to cook!" Well, that's something I am going to do as soon as possible. I thought teaching her how to cook would be a better idea then having to cook for everyone every single day. I didn't even need to eat, for God's sake!
Thankfully, Asia was willing to pull her weight around here… unlike a certain lazy Fallen Angel. For now, I guess I am the one who has to shoulder the weight of cooking for all three of them. Well, at least they liked the food.
After the early dinner, I task Kalawarner with keeping a watch on Asia. Kalawarner seems a lot livelier now that she has some work to do, and wasn't bothering me nearly as much as she used to. The two of them went ahead and sleep inside my old room, which was fine by me for now. Let's see… where did I keep those books Azazel left me again?
[Would You Like to Learn the Spell [Mind Jar]?]
Yes.
Need to Unlock Class: [Black Magician] in order to learn this spell
"No! Fucking-" I stop myself from shouting a bit more. I don't really want to wake up those two idiots and have them bother me. As for the second spell... not that either? Now, let's think about this in a calm, rational manner. Sure, I might have to wait for a bit before being able to use this Skill… but I am sure it would be amazing when I do eventually get to use it.
'Happy thoughts. Think happy thoughts.'
As for now… I guess I could increase the levels of my skills then? It's not like I need to sleep anyway.

It was a good night. Definitely the best in terms of growth he had. Sighing warily, I got off the couch and headed straight to the kitchen. While I didn't need to eat, the same restrictions didn't apply to Kalawarner and Asia. Especially the latter, who was as human as they came. 'Well,' I grinned, 'at least I have some coffee.'
I looked at the application I had written for myself. Now, I could go ahead and submit it to Kuoh Academy and get myself some respite. The death of your father should be reason enough to leave school for the rest of the semester, right?
Sona Sitri might or might not interfere with that. Then again, I hadn't really done anything which would warrant me being kept in school. But maybe I should remain in school? After all, I was supposed to keep an eye on Kuoh, and I doubt Azazel cares about anyone except those two. The death of a regular human wouldn't result in a homicidal Satan trying to kill everyone.
Upstairs, Asia and Kalawarner were still sleeping soundly, both seemingly settling well with each other. They definitely weren't sleeping when they went upstairs – maybe stayed up late for some ladies' chat?
I digress – the main issue was the lack of any enemies.
The police were prowling around the entire city, pretty pissed off at on behalf of all those guys Kalawarner killed. Well, things should quieten down after some time. However, right now, roaming around the streets at night would just get me shot. It would definitely be more of a headache than it was worth.
Every normal human was even more at edge because of the destruction of the church. The Devils had destroyed the Church yesterday, before my talk with Azazel, so I guess the Fallen sent a 'dying message' to Azazel. Everyone should be less at edge now they have dealt with those responsible for the deaths, but I did need to be a little more cautious.
Well, despite all these issues, I still needed to go out and fight. Plenty of Stray Devils roamed the streets in broad daylight, and I could get away with killing them as long as the fights weren't drawn out for too long. That would draw more attention than I would like. Fortunately for me, Devils, especially the low-class Stray Devils, died easily against Light Spears.
Kalawarner might have been a weak Fallen Grunt, but her spears were insanely useful against Devils. Killing Devils would have been way harder if I didn't have her going ahead and poisoning them with light. To further speed up the hunts, Asia could bring us back to full health pretty quickly. We didn't even need to stop after killing one of those things.
Things were looking pretty good for me. I just needed to stay here for some time. Maybe until the peace treaties are signed, and by then, I could just fuck off into the sunset. For now, I didn't have anything planned. I could level up skills… but didn't I promise I would take Asia out for a day?
The most difficult thing was convincing Asia to wear something other than her nun outfit. A nun walking in the middle of a town owned by the Devils – a town with no church – might be a little conspicuous. The plain white dress which Asia was wearing should blend in a little better than her old clothes.
The date – and it was a proper one, mind you – went surprisingly well. Yes, Asia, this was indeed what a date was. Stop spluttering over there, it didn't change anything. Asia was red with embarrassment as I brought her anything a regular person needs to live. She didn't even know how to use a phone! You would think she had been raised by the wolves instead of the nuns with how amazed she was acting. It was fun, a day spent without thinking of levelling up and increasing skill proficiency. I could afford that at the very least.
Kalawarner was mercilessly left all alone inside the empty room with a cup of instant noodles. I think she was fine with that, surprisingly enough. Then, since there hadn't been enough excitement in my life recently, this woman popped up.
"Asia Argento!" She commanded, "you need to come with me." Who was she again? Was she someone from the church hoping to get Asia back, now the scandal had died down? Hell, I could have sworn nobody except the Fallen Angels knew where Asia was.
I [Observed] her, only managing to find her name and stats, no race bar. Well, there was a race bar, but all I could see was a black block, hidden by something called 'The Dark Cowl'.
"W-Who are you?" Asia asks hesitantly. Maybe Asia knows her? Either way, it didn't really matter. Asia was not going anywhere until I was properly compensated.
"I am just a servant of my Lord," the woman said smoothly. She curtsied, "And as I have already told you, my Lord has commanded me to bring him-"
"Just hold on for a moment there," I interrupt the woman. "Who is this 'master', and why couldn't he come here himself? If Asia isn't important enough for him to come visit her himself, then I don't think Asia should go." It was probably Diodora, or some high-ranking member of the church who wants his, or her, personal healer-slut. No way to know for sure, really. Well, unless I… "For God's sake, woman!" She flinched at my words, "Jesus, what is going on?" Well, since she was flinching in pain every time I spoke the Lord's name in vain, she was probably a Devil. And we all know about one jackass Devil who has a hard-on for beautiful, innocent nuns.
"My master," the woman chokes out through the pain, "cannot personally come here. Certain recent events have led to an increased surveillance of this place. The only reason I could slip in here was because I was weak enough to not pose a threat to the Kings of this territory or their peerages."
'Did she just admit she was too weak to slip in? If that is the case, then I doubt she can do anything to stop us if we just decide to leave right now.'
"Let's go, Asia. I think this woman might be a little crazy."
Asia nodded solemnly. "Shouldn't we try to help her?"
"Well, it isn't really our place. We can't help everyone, Asia." I doubted I had helped even a single person other than her since I came here.
"Stop!" The woman sounded angry and just a little desperate at this point, "You can't go around speaking for Asia. You have nothing to do with this. Shut up and let her speak for herself!"
"Fair enough," I shrug. I knew showing Asia all those stranger danger videos was a good choice, "Do you want to go with this woman to the house of a stranger who refuses to come here himself? And let me remind you, it's a stranger who could be anyone. He might even…" I trail off here, letting Asia come to her own conclusions.
"Well," Asia blushed at being put into the spotlight. At least she was a little more decisive since I first met her. "Kala told me to refuse to follow anyone who isn't Kaito or her," she said. Asia was no longer a woman with no common sense! She was now a woman with just enough common sense to not die if she walks alone.
Not that I am going to trust her with that just yet. "Thank you, Asia," I said. I turned towards the other woman who didn't look happy about this situation, "Now, as you have heard, Asia doesn't wish to go and meet your master, you creep."
Healers were useful… and essential, if I wanted to grind experience as quickly as I could. I had no idea how I even survived for this long without someone patching me up after every fight.
The woman gritted her teeth in anger. "I refuse," she said firmly, "I believe this isn't an invitation which can be declined."
"Now, this whole thing is pretty sketchy." We were attracting a crowd here. They were surprisingly interested in the drama. "And I am sure this 'master' of yours doesn't want any ruckus. Maybe because he isn't supposed to be here? Anyway, I doubt he would be pleased with you. So, unless you want me to make a big deal out of this, I suggest you just leave."
[Gamer's Mind Activated!]
I take a step backwards, surprised by the notification. Did she really try to use [Mind Control] on me? As I watch Asia slowly shuffling towards the woman, I realize that yes, she did just do that. I activate my [Mana Sense], now way better than before, and remove the 'bud' of that woman's mana from Asia.
Asia stopped suddenly, and was startled by her sudden change in position. She tried to step away from the woman and fell backwards, shrieking in surprise. If we didn't already have everyone's attention, then we did now.
"Sir," a security guard walked up to us, "is this woman troubling you two?" Finally! The man should be here a long time ago. The woman looked at him with wide eyes, and then she saw everyone staring at her. I nodded. "Yes, she has been bothering us for a long time. She keeps on insisting my girlfriend needs to visit her 'master'." The man flinched at that. After all, it's pretty easy to imagine what a person going by 'Master' and asking girls to follow him to his home would be like.
The people around us agreed with my words, eager to step in and give their own account. I pulled Asia closer to me. Didn't want the woman to grab Asia and just teleport away from here, after all. Apparently, the woman had that exact plan in mind, because she looked like she had just sucked on a lemon when she saw me doing that.
There was a sudden bright flash of light, and the woman disappeared when it faded away. "Wait, what?" The guard asked and turned towards us. However, I had no intention of letting him ask us some question. Thankfully, there were no cameras around this place.
We walked outside the mall hand-in-hand, making sure to stick to populated places. The woman didn't appear again, and we just kept to places like restaurants and arcades until I felt certain she wasn't sticking around.
'How exactly did she find us anyway?' I could fight her, maybe even kill her. She did say she wasn't particularly strong. However, that would be more harmful to me. After all, I was reasonably certain the Satans were one more mass murder away from dropping by Kuoh to figure out who was killing people here.
"Hey, Asia," I said as she put some more coins inside the Dance Game, "Want to get some ice cream?" Despite the minor hiccup, the day ended pretty well. Hell, depending on how things work out, I could try drawing Diodora's minions out. Nobody except him would find out if I went to isolated places where nobody would witness me killing his pawns. After all, Diodora could not come here himself for now, so all he could do was keep sending the weaker minions or servants. Those might even get me enough experience to learn the stupid spell Azazel gave me.
'Every single year,' Diodora gritted his teeth as he stared at the newest 'present' he had received for his birthday. 'Every single year, there will be some asshole…'
It was a chessboard. Not one of the cheap wooden chessboards which humans usually used, but a metal set, studded with gems and made of gold. It shimmered in the artificial light of his room, glittering beautifully.
'Who even makes these?' He wondered. Maybe it was high time all those idiots stopped being obsessed with chess. Hell, somebody needed to knock some sense into them. Another thing he had to thank his brother for, he supposed. Chess wasn't that big in the underworld until everyone found out his brother liked the game. Well, he had some news for them: chess didn't make you a tactical genius just because his brother liked it! Hell, chess didn't even have anything to do with how real battles worked!
And yet, the accursed game had wormed its way into every single thing which the Devils used. There were always those few idiots who went around calling every single thing with a chess reference. And don't let him get started on the jokes…
The Peerages? That one was self-explanatory. the Rating Games? Those were equated to chess matches. He had no idea where that came from. Worst of them all: You want go ahead and try to marry a Devil of equal standing? Fuck, first you have to beat them in chess.
What kind of a fucking logic even is that? What can being good at chess even do for you?! Except going around and boasting about your 'massive intellect'.
Diodora took deep breaths to calm himself down. Deep breaths. In and out. Well, he was sure he would be fine when he had Asia with him. He had been saving himself for her, that would be his gift for himself. Something he actually liked. He sighed as he grabbed the white queen piece from the board, watching it glimmer as he slowly moved it. 'The chessboard would make a nice decoration, if nothing else,' he thought warily as he looked at the beautiful queen.
The Queen, the most powerful piece in the game for some weird reason. It reminded him of his future Queen, Asia Argento. He could barely wait for her to join his harem. His crowning piece, the modern-day saint who was squandering her beauty away in the drab churches of Italy. It had been really difficult setting up that one. Why, he could still feel himself wincing as he remembered the price he had to pay in order to get her excommunicated as quickly and stealthily as they could. And don't even get him started on the efforts to get her into the small town of Kuoh.
'But in the end, it would all be worth it', he chuckled darkly. He could feel himself reminiscing about what got him into nuns. It was supposed to be a one-time thing. It was like collecting bottle caps, but of course, he was collecting nuns. It was difficult to seduce the nuns with dark promises. Maintaining a kind demeanor for long enough to get her to willingly leave the church was difficult, but the thrill of being caught by exorcists made it all the better. 'It was all worth it,' he had realized as he heard those delectable screams.
Oh, yes, he could barely wait for Asia Argento. He wondered how she would be in bed? Would she sob quietly as he took her over and over again? Or would she scream and rage against the world? Or maybe she would pray, hoping for her long-dead God to save him? 'Well, I doubt I would have to wait for that any longer.'
He shifted around, feeling uneasily constrained in his clothes. 'I should call one of my peerage members', he thought. They had been getting a little too at ease with him not calling them for the last two months. He shrugged, 'What is a few more hours compared to the two months he had been waiting for her?' And yet, he found himself sinking into dark and depraved fantasies. Didn't he get a new pawn about a month or two ago? She still believed him to be kind and caring. He couldn't help but laugh when he thought of Anastasia, still believing he provided shelter to lost nuns. 'Why? You don't want unsavory characters to take advantage of those poor, innocent souls now, do you?'
He shook his head. He could always have his fun later. Right now, he should focus more on the important things. Himself. And Asia. Who should be here any second now…
'...any second.'
The queen spun around in his hands. The gift might have been in poor taste, but the quality was indeed excellent. Maybe he could gift it back to his brother later? Ajuka would appreciate it much more than him, after all. Would save him the effort of going around looking for something to give his brother.
'It was the least he could do,' he chuckled. He might have been the most boorish person Diodora had ever seen, but he did invent the Evil Pieces. Without them, it would be a lot more difficult to keep the nuns from running away while he had his fun. He smirked as he remembered them crying as praying to their beloved God hurt them instead.
He frowned and looked at his watch once again. One downside of using his Peerage as a harem was the lack of competence they showed. 'You win some, you lose some,' he guessed. He managed to wring every last bit of entertainment he could from them before he kicked them to the curb.
'Maybe Sitri wasn't entirely wrong to fight against our marriage. Not that I wouldn't try to fuck her up for that.'
Finally, a sigil appeared in front of him. Ah, so she finally found the nun. Diodora rose up to his feet, his face morphing into the kind persona he usually made for the start. The perfect, kind smile which could sweep anyone off his feet. At least, that was his and his harem's opinion.
"Welcome to my manor, dear Asia," he said in a regal bearing, "I hope you will give me the honor of…" his voice trailed off as he realized it was only Anastasia who stepped out of the portal. "Where is Asia again?" He asked, his face slipping into a neutral expression.
His could feel himself getting angry as he clenched the Queen Piece in his hand. "I gave you one task," he growled out, "one fucking task! "
The woman flinched at his screams and stared at him. She pulled the cloak off her face, letting her long blonde hair fall. She stared at him for a few minutes. "She was with someone else, you know? It was a boyl they were on a date, I think. I doubt she really needs you to help her." She smiled happily.
"Oh?!" She flinched as he shouted. "So you saw her wandering around the streets with a random boy," he sneered. He could feel his heart hammering in his chest. A boy. Of all things Asia Argento was being led around by a boy. If he did claim her… "If that boy did anything-" He couldn't bear to finish the sentence. "Well, I will inflict it on you. A thousand times worse."
The woman laughed at him. "Sure you will," she looked at him and smiled, "Look, they were having fun! You don't need to take them in. I would have brought them in, but there were just too many people around."
Diodora laughed madly, and flung the queen towards his pawn with all his strength. The piece broke into pieces as it hit her face, the shards leaving shallow scars on her cheeks, eliciting a sob from her. "Then you should have killed them all! "
The woman flinched as it hit her. "T-that hurts…" she spoke in pain.
"Do you have any idea how difficult it was to sneak you into that territory while the other two Satans were doing their best to discreetly isolate the town of Kuoh? The only reason you could pass was because you appeared to be one of the weakest Stray Devils!" he shouted.
The woman held her hand to the wound, blood seeping from her face. Tears shimmered in her eyes as she glared balefully at Diodora. "Y-Yes, my lord," she said sarcastically, "Do you wish for me to bring you Gabriel from Heaven too while I am at it?"
Everything went quiet for a few seconds "So the slave dares to mock me?" Diodora said quietly, but his voice seemed to echo throughout the room.
"I am not a slave, you asshole!" The woman shouted.
In the blink of an eye, he was standing right in front of her, his hand raised upwards. How idiotic would they have to be to not understand their place? Then again, Diodora did always have a soft spot for idiots.
Anastasia's eyes widened as she realized her mistake. Diodora was not exactly the nicest person around, she realized. Maybe, just maybe, she should have thought this through some more. "No," she stuttered, a little confused and out of words. "No, my lord, I-I meant no disrespect," she said between choked sobs as he slapped her again and again, "I-I was just saying I would try-"
"Well, if your devotion is so great, then get on your knees right now." She stared wide-eyed at Diodora, hoping she didn't hear what she just did.
'Maybe Asia needs someone to pick her up… someone better than a reincarnated Devil with the delusions of grandeur at the very least,'
"Also, the next chapter would be out earlier, I swear!"
So... that turned out to be a lie... Well, the next one should be quicker :3. No, it really will be. Maybe by this Sunday if all goes according to plan.
Thanks to everyone who followed and stuff! I am kinda surprised that so many people liked this fic...
Oh yeah, so someone told me that a good lawyer could easily spring Kutsuki out of jail, which made sense, so I decided to address it(?) in the start of the chapter the best I could.
Also, if you feel something doesn't make sense, or you just have some ideas then feel free to tell me in the reviews! Or PM me. Criticism is always welcome! And so are suggestions for which world's Kaito should go to!
Anyway, so I decided to answer some reviews here. I probably should just PM... But I might as well type them here. I will probably get the older questions later, but for now I will answer the newest first...
Dark Angel Assassin: Making him a descendant of Gilgamesh sounds cool, but I was thinking (thinking) of making the next world Fate Zero. This is a multicross story, so it would be fun to see him fight Gilgamesh (and probably get wrecked. Gilgamesh is strong)
If anyone has any ideas for the next world's then feel free to tell me! No worlds that are too OP for the second one though.
Onedeath Infinitelives: That title sounds metal af... I like it :)
Kevin J Rosario Cruz & Flamingp0tat0: The leveling system gets way more manageable later on, but for now I want to make levelling up harder. I want to maintain the tension, if that makes sense? He wouldn't really be weak all the time (Boosted Gear OP) but he kind of needs to have a higher EXP requirements to prevent him from Boosted Gearing his way through everything :). As for Ddraig being involved in the game, he won't really be that involved except when it involves the Boosted Gear.
Sultan Asil Arslan: Serafall needs to be in more fics! AAnd yeah, I have a lot of ideas for that!
Also, there will be smut, but later. I mean, I could have included it right at the end here, but I want to wait for a bit before branching out into sex scenes. Thanks for advising me for or against including smut guys!
