The Heights is an Australian TV show that has recently aired in the UK, so I got amused by a recent episode which shows a divorced couple spending time together with the man's date after the date insists on the ex-wife staying for their date. Made my own spin because it's too funny to pass up on writing about. Fun fact, the actress who plays Kenna is pansexual.

"You stayed at your ex-husband's date with another woman?!" Mary cries out, her wine almost spilling as she and the other women laugh at Kenna's predicament. "How was he?"

"Annoyed," Kenna replies, wincing. "Cock-blocked... Didn't speak to me at all when I called him this morning. Just asked when to pick the twins up."

"Oh, my God," Greer says. "There is amicably divorced couple but then there's an invasion of privacy!"

Kenna runs her hand through her hair, shaking her head a little. "The worse thing is, Katie and I had such a good laugh. She's great, she's like me... Shit!"

"Looks like someone's ex-husband still loves her..." Lola drawls with her wine glass on her lips. "Eek."

Then the women are laughing at Bash's expense except for Kenna who groans and covers her face in humiliation. She didn't mean to gatecrash their date, she came over to give their eldest his forgotten Maths textbooks and the night just went away. She attempted multiple times to leave but Katie wasn't having it and she swore she heard Bash curse under his breath a few times.

They stop when Kenna's phone goes off and she checks the caller ID, saying, "It's her!"

"Oh, my God," Mary quickly says. "What if she's..."

Kenna's eyes widen. "I mean, I'm not opposed but she's Bash's girlfriend! Or a kind-of girlfriend? Well, they're trying things out."

"Answer it," Greer says, grinning cheekily.

So Kenna does.

"Hey?"

"Hi! It's Katie. From yesterday. I don't know if you remember but we exchanged numbers, so..."

"Yeah, hey," Kenna says, closing her eyes shut. "Did you and Bash manage to spend time together?"

"You guys seem close. Familiar," Katie tells her. "There must be something still there."

Mary grabs the phone and puts it on the loudspeaker, the rest of the women gasping.

Kenna glares at her. "Katie, there is nothing going on between Bash and me. He got me pregnant when I was sixteen and well, our families were religious, very religious so we got married, fell into a comfortable relationship and had two more kids before realising that we didn't want to waste time being in a marriage where we didn't love each other that much. Plus, I kind of came out shortly after we split."

Katie gasps. "You're gay?"

"Pansexual, actually," Kenna replies. "But I wanted to please my family so remained with Bash for the sake of our eldest and eventually, our youngest two. But honestly, he likes you and I think you guys can have a great thing going. You're a great laugh, he's a great laugh... I'm so sorry I cock-blocked you guys last night."

"No, I wanted you to stay," Katie says softly, Kenna's friends pulling shocked faces. "If I'm honest, I wasn't really feeling Bash in the first place... A friend told me to go for it."

The women gape and Kenna quickly says, "Wait, what? Then why-"

"Do you think we can hang out sometime?"

Kenna lets out a startled yelp and gives the women a mortified look. "Uh, I'm really busy. With work and the kids, I-I don't have any free time at all. You know, I'm a lawyer. Corporate, big bucks kind of clientele who need me every waking hour-"

"Don't you do yoga in the park?" She does, with the girls.

"That's the only time I have to myself," Kenna breathes out.

"We can hang out there?" Katie asks hopefully. "Without ex-hubby and the kids."

"I'll get back to you on that, a client has arrived. Bye!"

She hangs up and starts screaming, the women joining in as they freak out.

"What the actual fu-"

"You can't date her!" Lola cries out, cutting Mary off.

Kenna scoffs. "Yeah, I'm totally going to cock-block my ex-husband and steal his new girlfriend. Lola, of course not!"

Mary downs her wine in shock. "You need to tell Bash. Tell him that he's got a type."

"Yeah, gay women who have the exact same personalities," Greer mutters.

Kenna groans, resting her head against the table. "Oh, dear Lord..."

...

"Please, talk to me?"

Bash remains quiet, turning away from her. "Xander, Ana, I'm going soon so you better grab your things so we can go!"

Kenna rests her chin on his shoulder. "I'm sowwy... Sowwy that your date decided to ask me out instead."

"Xander, Ana!" Bash calls out before he turns to her. "You're triggering me."

Kenna giggles, going over to sip her orange juice as he grabs his own and leans against the counter. "I'm really sorry. I rejected her offer straight away and I should have yesterday when she asked me to stay. I genuinely thought you guys looked cute together."

Bash sighs heavily. "I'm cursed, aren't I?"

"No," Kenna drawls cheekily. "She asked me about you. Well, I kinda told her about you."

"You scared her off and made her gay? Kenna!" Bash cries out, rolling his eyes.

"I'm sorry!" Kenna cries out, laughing. "I'm so sorry. I'll make it up to you."

He raises his brows. "How?"

"I'll find you a date-"

"More like yourself one."

"Hey, we got good taste when it comes to women," Kenna tells him coyly. "I will make sure she's nothing like me. And actually likes guys. Don't worry, I have your back."

He chuckles as their ten-year-old twins finally trudge down the stairs with their overnight bags. "Say 'goodnight' to Mama."

"Goodnight, my darlings!" Kenna says, bringing the twins into her arms and hugging them tightly. "Don't annoy your brother."

"We make no promises," Xander mutters before he hands Bash his bag. "Love you, Maman."

"Love you, Maman!" Ana tells her, kissing her cheek before Bash flings her over his shoulder and heads to the door.

"Love you too," Kenna says, sharing an amused glance with Bash before the three leave her alone.

She slips her phone out of her pocket and opens up a Tinder account, her ex-husband's sauciest photo as the profile picture. It's totally normal to have certain images of your ex-husband on your phone, right?

When they were together, their sex life was incredible for a couple who didn't feel like they loved each other. They were friends with benefits raising three kids at the end of their marriage and ended up keeping their sex life alive with a few interesting pictures sent to each other.

Sex hair is the way to go, Kenna decides, grinning as she sits down and gets to work.

...

"You're joking," Mary says when she stares at the messages Kenna's had with a woman. "He'll kill you!"

Kenna waves her off. "I told him I had things covered and woah... I did not know I had so many sexy pics of Bash. Like, why didn't I, you know what, to these?" She asks, scrolling through her gallery. Something flutters in the pit of her stomach and she shakes it off, going back to the app. "I'll give him a time, a date and her picture."

"Before she finds out his ex-wife did the schmoozing and requests a threesome," Mary mutters lightly as she continues to stuff the clothes into the washing machine. "This is secretly a way to boost your sex life. You're playing with fire here!"

"Who is?" Francis asks, coming to help his wife take the fresh clothes out of the dryer.

"Kenna here cock-blocked your brother, had the girl ask her out and now, she's gone and made him a Tinder profile and found another girl who likes... threesomes."

Francis gapes, turning to Kenna in shock. "You're joking!" He cries out. "Show me!"

Kenna shows him and he starts laughing, slapping the washing machine as they all resort to giggles and laughter. "I'm trying to be a supportive ex-wife."

"I swear this is all for your benefit," Francis tells her.

"That's what I said!" Mary says. "Kenna, just leave Bash to his own devices. He managed to get two girls in the past."

"Psycho bitch one and psycho bitch two," Francis and Kenna remind her.

"He definitely needs help," Mary mumbles. "Good Lord. Thank God you as his baby mama was sane at least."

Kenna giggles, shaking her head. "Trust me, it will work! I've got the kids this week, I'll get him a dream girl. And he'll thank me for it."

"Good luck because he will kill you," Francis tells her.

"That's what I said!" His wife cries out. "Don't you love being on the same wavelength?"

Francis chuckles. "Yes, sweetie. Now, Kenna, keep us updated."

Kenna grins. "Oh, I will..."

...

"Bash, no!"

He pushes her into the swimming pool and she arises from the water, glaring at him. "Really, Kenna?!"

She chucks her water-logged phone at him which he catches and pulls herself out, slapping his chest. "You arsehole, these are expensive jeans!" She doesn't even care about her phone, she'll grab some rice.

"Fuck the expensive jeans that I got you!" He cries out, stopping to eye her butt appreciatively. "I chose well. Anyway, the girl has a boyfriend! And they invited me for-"

"A threesome?"

"You bitch!"

Kenna starts laughing, sinking to the ground as she heaves heavily before laughing again. "Oh, my God. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

He starts pacing. "I know why I'm cursed now. It's you!"

"Please," she gasps out, snorting as she giggles and gets up to hold onto him. "I'll make it up to you."

"Forget it," Bash mumbles. "I can find a girlfriend, myself. Someone who won't leave me for my ex-wife and won't invite me to sleep with her and her boyfriend. How the hell did we work out?"

Kenna sputters into laughter again. "Well, you made me question my sexuality, I'll admit but the threesomes? Whew!"

"We never had threesomes!"

"Exactly," Kenna replies coyly. "That's how good you were at satisfying me alone." She gives him a wink and he scowls. "Stop scowling, you're too handsome to do that."

"I feel like you're doing this on purpose," Bash mutters as they go and sit down on the lounge chairs. "I'll be the grumpy divorcé for the rest of my life."

Kenna stops laughing and sighs wistfully, turning to him. "I doubt that. You're amazing and so kind and sweet. I wouldn't have got through this without you. I know we were pushed into marrying and raising our little family prematurely but you're loyal and honest. Any woman will be lucky to have you."

"It's not the first time I chose someone like Katie."

"Her being a lesbian?" Kenna guesses with a giggle.

"No, her personality, her likes and dislikes... She's you with another face," Bash says, sighing heavily as he lays back and crosses his arms. "I went for you five times, Kenna."

Kenna gasps. "Oh, Bash..."

"We've been separated for five years, yet, every girl I choose always reminds me of you," he continues. "But you're gay now. Great, I've gone and turned my ex-wife gay, shit."

She laughs, making him laugh as well. "Sweetie, I was pansexual before we made a baby and got married," she reminds him lightly. "Did you hear? Pan-sex-ual. That means I have no preferences."

He turns to her, eyebrow raised. "I haven't had sex in two years."

"Oh, my God!" She cries out. "Damn, I really should have left you and Katie alone!"

"Yeah, you should have but it wouldn't have mattered because she's not into guys anyway!" Bash replies, rolling his eyes.

Kenna places her feet down and leans closer to him from her lounge chair. "Did we split earlier than needed?" She asks softly. "I mean, we were really happy, my identity crisis aside and the fact that we got married and became parents young but we had a great thing."

"Yeah, we did," Bash replies, smiling a little. "Robin's seventeen now, we did that. We survived seventeen years of raising a kid. And he's not fucked up. Mostly, still forgets shit but that's just teenage boys."

She nods, chuckling. "We didn't argue much either."

"Banter," he replies. "Bickering but never arguing. Except for that time when you thought it was a good idea to put our then three-year-old daughter in beauty pageant shit."

Kenna grins. "We would have won," she reminds him.

"She would have let that go to her head! And it's not like we needed the prize money. We can afford to put three kids through university," he replies.

"I wanted to build her confidence," Kenna says. "And make the world know how perfect our kids are. Without you, I wouldn't have Robert, Alexander and Anastasia. And to be honest, with work and them... I have no time to date or see other people that I don't already."

He turns to her, green eyes meeting hazel and he smiles. "Sometimes, I catch myself looking at photos of you on my phone. It's stupid and stalkerish I know. I'm sorry."

Kenna raises her brows, amused. "Don't apologise, I do the same! Recently and realised how much I need to get laid if I'm drooling over my ex-husband's body."

They laugh and she joins him on his lounger, her head on his chest as he presses a kiss on the top of it. He wraps his arms around her and she rests her arm over his waist.

"I miss you. The closeness we had and I know we have a good friendship, but maybe..." She trails off.

He looks down at her in wonder. "How about we keep things casual?"

"An open marriage?"

"We're not married anymore," he reminds her.

She laughs wryly. "What will the kids say if Mummy and Daddy are sneaking about for sex?"

"They don't need to know until we've found a decent normal for us," he replies. "We can still see other people but if we're lonely, we'll be there for each other."

"I like that," she whispers, pressing a soft kiss on his lips. "Maybe this was my intention all along."

"Hmm?" He hums against her lips as she shifts on top of him.

"Ruin your sex life so you'd run back to me," she replies lightly, screaming when he lifts her and carries her over to the pool, dumping her inside.

"I knew it!" He cries out, crossing his arms. "I can read you like a book, Beaton."

Kenna laughs when she emerges from the water and she grabs his leg, making him fall into the pool as well. "Now, we both owe each other a new phone!" She tells him when he chucks his phone onto the edge of the pool.

"I deserved that," he mutters, swimming over to pulls her into his arms and kiss her. "Hi."

"Hey," she whispers, grinning before they snuggle in the water, her head against his beating heart for her.

Honestly, it felt great to put this into words. Now, I won't stop obsessing over the damn episode on Player. Also, Tumblr is a cruel world, making me miss Kennash all over again because Frary kind of got their happy ever after in the last ever episode. What did Kennash ever do to you, Laurie, huh? I'm still bitter and resentful and other people are with similar thoughts to mine about not bothering to watch on as our ships sank to the bottom of the sea. Rant over, thanks for reading!
