Dumbledore is very good at keeping news from the students. He is very good at turning Hogwarts into a place surrounded only by goodness. Usually, students don't have access to what's really going on in the world. Usually, students have nothing to worry about. He doesn't realize when a newspaper arrives at the staff table and all the professors go quiet, someone is going to realize what's going on.

Of course, most students aren't aware of the war, but it doesn't take much to figure out what is going on. Hitler has convinced many that the Jews are the reason for their problems.

He's wrong.

Many countries believe he's wrong - thus the war - but they're wrong too. The problem isn't the Jews, it's the muggles.

Muggles don't know magic. Muggles don't have magic. Therefore, they are unnecessary and just cause problems. After all, muggles are the ones that started this war that wizards will eventually have to put an end to.

Muggles are the reason I grew up in an orphanage.

Muggleborns can't be any better, can they? They were raised by muggles. How could they be full wizards?

I can hear footsteps behind me, interrupting the silence of the library.

"Hi, Tom. What are you doing?" I hear my girlfriend, Claire, ask.

"Thinking," I reply.

"Is everything alright? You missed breakfast." She hands me a muffin and sits down beside me.

I look over at her. She seems normal enough. She's pretty. It's hard to tell she was raised by muggles.

"We're breaking up," I inform her nonchalantly.

"What?" she asks.

"You're joking, right?" she says with a nervous laugh.

"No, we're breaking up," I repeat. She looks shocked. How can she not understand? She's not even a real witch, why would I date her?

"Why?" she asks, loud enough that I'm surprised she's not kicked out of the library.

"You're a muggleborn," I explain.

"What does that have to do with anything?" she shrieks.

"It means you're not really a witch." I shrug.

"I thought you loved me," she says in a hurt voice. I thought I did too until I realized that her kind can only cause problems.

"Some things matter more than love." It's true. The world would be better without muggles. Without muggles, there would be no muggleborns. Without muggleborns, there would only be purebloods. Then, the world would be perfect.

She turns towards me. Her usually kind face is filled with anger. She storms out of the library, her black hair spilling down her back, drawing the attention of the few other people reading.

I pick up my books and wander through the library for the next hour - skipping my first class: History of Magic - looking for a way to get rid of muggles. Unfortunately, I can find no spell, potion, or hex that will get rid of them all at once.

I sit down once again and make a promise to myself.

No matter how long it takes, I will find a way to rid the world of all muggles.
