Chapter 1- You got me hooked
An: Hey guys! Enjoy the story!
Caroline was the unluckiest girl in the whole New York, or probably the whole world. No one believed her but all of them saw it. Katherine and Bonnie would never admit, but even they knew it. Sometimes she did wonder if that was a way of maybe gods telling her to stop but she never did. Since she left Mystic Falls to make her own name and money, worse things happened. Like sometimes she really hurt herself in process but still, there was no stopping her. Giving up is something she was never comfortable with. And to be honest, why should she?
"I swear to god, this might be my last day," Caroline groaned. Her eyes flitting towards her burnt to crisp cupcakes. Elena pursed her lips, no wonder she was trying not to laugh but ever time Caroline looked at her way, Elena's lips twitched in amusement.
"How many times do I have to tell you that I'm not firing you," Damon came inside the kitchen of the restaurant he owns, wrapping the lazy arm around Elena, who turned to peck him on his lips.
Caroline rolled her eyes. Figures Damon to do something like that. She took off her apron and walked towards them with hands on her hips.
"Would you rather I burn this freaking place down?"
"Geez, why do you have to be so dramatic? You're not going to burn this place down, Barbie," Damon rolled his eyes. "Tell you what? You should try waitressing?" He picked up the burnt cupcake from the tray and then threw it in the trash box.
"Damon, you don't understand. While I appreciate you helping me out, I don't think I want to be the one to ruin it all," Caroline looked at Elena for help, simply pleading her.
"Caroline, you're my best friend. I'm not letting you give up. Just give it a go, I promise if you screw up, I won't stop you," Elena spoke, her eyes soft as she reached out for her hand.
Caroline placed her hand in Elena's before nodding at Damon. She knew it was a bad idea, Oh she did. But it was the only way for them knuckleheads, who she loved very, very much, to stop helping her out.
"Ugh, fine! What will you have me do?" She asked them, a slow smile spreading across her face. Damon and Elena smiled in victory.
"You go out of this kitchen, you take orders, you come in here and serve out there again. It's simple really," Elena squeezed her arm, assuring her.
"Okay, okay let's do this then," Caroline took a deep breath. Whatever. Maybe this might work. She nodded and walked towards the door.
"Blondie!" Caroline turned a fraction only to have apron thrown on her face. She glared at Damon, who just smirked and shrugged.
"Oops my bad."
She looked at Elena, who pinched Damon drawing a Yelp from him, which pleased Caroline's ear.
"I don't know if you need to hear this Ells, but you're marrying a child. Seriously. Consider a brother switch maybe," with a grin, she walked out of the room. She tied her apron back, smoothing it from the front. Here goes nothing.
Klaus pinched the bridge of his nose in annoyance as his siblings bickered .
"NO! I can't believe you. You slept with one of my friends and then left her on the road?!?" Rebekah raged.
"She was extremely boring, Rebekah. If I spent even a one more second with her, I would have banged my head on the steering wheel!" Kol whined.
"You didn't think about that before sleeping with her?" Klaus had to practically hold her because if he let's her go, she will definitely murder Kol.
Elijah sat on his couch, his face hiding behind the spread sheet of the newspaper. Sometimes Klaus really did envy Elijah. His ability to stay neutral at the times like these were something to be admired about. But right now he really needed his help.
"Elijah, a help? If you don't interject right now, I'm pretty sure our little sister is going to get her hands bloody." Klaus sighed, still holding Rebekah as she screamed at Kol while struggling out of Klaus's hold.
Elijah looked at Klaus, before folding his newspaper. His eyes darted towards Bekah and then Kol.
"Let her go, Niklaus. Perhaps it shall be a lesson to our little brother. He will keep it in his trousers."
"Elijah, she will bloody kill me!" Kol's shrilly voice rang across the room. If Klaus was not holding Bekah right now, he would've laughed at his brother's antics.
Elijah shrugged, already bored, "then good for her."
Klaus sighed, taking the matters in his own hands considering Elijah was no help. "Rebekah, instead of outing for blood right now and committing fratricide, would you settle if Kol apologizes to your friend?"
Rebekah stopped thrashing in his arms, to ponder for a moment. Klaus let her go, relieved.
"I'm willing to consider, Nik. Not only will our brother beg for forgiveness but also promise that he is not going to sleep around. Especially with MY friends. He has no shame."
Kol looked as if someone slapped him, a vision amusing enough to other three siblings.
"That's unfair!"
"It's either that or you're dead. Take it or leave it Kol," Klaus smirked.
"Fine! Happy Rebekah?" Kol asked with a mock sigh to which Rebekah scoffed in response.
"Disappointed. I was looking forward to kill you," She drawled, looking at her nails.
Klaus chuckled. "Well now that its settled, can we just go out and eat something? I don't know about you all, but I'm famished. Stefan's brother owns restaurant just across the street. Anyone wants to join?"
A loud no from Kol and Rebekah and silent shake of head from Elijah was enough for him to take a hint. He sighed again. For some people who were full of enthusiasm a few hours ago, they sure deflated very easily. They were in New York for few days. Klaus just wanted to spend one hour without his family bickering and without him thinking about work. It took lot of convincing to Mikael to let him come here. He wanted him stay posted in London. Initially Elijah was his first choice as always but Mikael also knew Klaus was one of the best settlers in the firm. He finally relented letting go of him. Klaus felt free for the first time in a while. It also felt a little good that he might just be able to prove his father that sending him was the best idea. Maybe, just maybe he hoped that his father would let him control everything from here.
As he walked into the restaurant, he found it pleasantly quite. Unusually so because mostly all restaurants here were either noisy or just plain silent. Klaus could hear really soft music playing in the background. Stefan did mention that his brother and his ex girlfriend who is now his brother's fiancée would be there. Considering it wasn't busy, he felt at ease. He didn't make reservations for it anyways.
He took a seat beside the window where he could easily view the roads and walks.
He had just settled when a girl walked towards him. He looked up from the phone at her, suddenly thrown off guard with the huge smile she greeted him with. Her smile was beautiful, or would've been if it wasn't forced. She looked slightly flustered and angry. But even then, she looked beautiful. Her shoulder length blond curls flowing beautifully. Her blue-green eyes looking at him slightly annoyed and expectedly.
"If you're done checking me out, maybe you can tell me what I should get you?" she finally speaks, arching her eyebrow at him. Feisty little thing, that she is. Klaus clears his throat, outstretches his hand to grab to the menu.
"I'll have pasta. That's the specialty here isn't it?" he contemplates. He looks up from the menu to her nametag to her. "I'll have pasta, Caroline," he tests her name on tongue. Beautiful name for beautiful woman. "I know for sure if I didn't try it here, Stefan would kill me."
"Your order will be coming right away, Mr?"
"Mikaelson. But you can call me Klaus," he said with cheeky smile.
"You're the unusual one," she tilted her head in amusement. "Well, Mr Mikaelson, make yourself comfortable. I'll be here with your order in a moment."
She walks away with notes scribbling in her hand. Her whole attention away from the waiter who was coming her way with tray in his hands, full of drinks. Klaus opens his mouth, making his mind to warn her but its already too late. Her foot connects with the man's, making him trip over to the floor, his tray flying above someone else's head. Klaus is silent, his fist on his mouth as he watched Caroline look at the waiter in shock. She is fine, thankfully but Klaus wasn't sure the waiter was. Or the man who was now drenched in different drinks from head to toe, lemon beautifully decorated on his bald head. Klaus was too shocked to even just mutter anything. That was before he got up from where he was sitting and walked towards her.
"Are you okay, love?" he asked, his lips pressed tightly against each other still.
"Yeah," Caroline answered in daze, "but it's not me you should be asking." She turned towards him, seriously considering. Then she started laughing. Her pressed her hand on her mouth to stifle her giggles, mouthing sorry to the man who was currently brushing off his shirt.
"You okay, Matt?" he heard her ask the man, still breathless.
"Yeah I'm fine, care bear. Thankfully." He shot her an amused glance.
Caroline nodded, still smiling at him. Then she turned to him, a little guilty, her cheeks flushing pink.
"I'm really sorry for the all that mess you had to see."
"No need to apologize, Love. It wasn't your fault. Can't say I complained though," he grinned at her.
Caroline smiled back at him, "Yeah. I'll be back with the order. I have to give it to the chef," She waived the slip where she had written the order.
"Be careful this time, wouldn't have you hurt now would we?" He smirked.
Caroline mumbled something along with 'this wouldn't be the first time,' before walking away. She disappeared into the kitchen.
Klaus walked back to his seat. Maybe New York wouldn't be boring afterall. He smiled to himself and sent a text to Stefan stating where he is.
