Chapter 4: Who Cares About an Orphan?

"I was not aware you had another quirk," Aizawa had said once the other students had left for the day. He was surprised by the young Midoriya being picked up by some unseen force before being dropped.

I have control over my telekinesis for the most part, she whispered into his mind. It goes hand in hand with my telepathy. It's how I can talk to single individuals without the others knowing. He nodded. He figured it had been something like that. When she whispered into his mind, the other's hadn't heard it. It was a strange feeling that he was still trying to get used to.

"You have a handle on using your healing quirk offensively. You will need to hone it a bit more." She nodded. She had been able to direct her quirk to send bursts that when flooded into a pressure point, it could cause paralysis of the effected nerve. She was also good at directing it to over charge her muscles to increase her speed and the strength of her hits and kicks. He wanted to learn her limits, but also knew how dangerous that could be. From his understanding, if she became too overworked, she would wake up from nightmares screaming out, causing damages around her and possibly death. If only she could get a grasp on that quirk, she wouldn't be such a danger to the others.

Is there a place I can practice my other quirk? His eyes widened at the question. Not everyone is welcome to having someone they don't know speak inside their head. I want to be able to talk to others without scaring them with thoughts of me rifling through their head and going through all their secrets. He could understand that, but he couldn't feel her trying to go through his thoughts. She seemed to be the type of person that respected people's privacy. You can stop me with your quirk if it gets out of hand, right? You did it the first time we met.

He remembered that day. The day she lost the rest of her family and the day she became the ward of the hell fire hero, Endeavor. She couldn't have been older than eight at the time that he saw her, surrounded by flames and rubble. There had been so much blood there too. He didn't know the specifics of what had happened. He only knew that she had been crying loudly while clutching the dead forms of her baby brother who couldn't be older than three and her mother. The fire fighters were fighting to put out the fires around her, but they couldn't several of them on their knees clutching their ears and praying to whomever they believed in to not die. Endeavor was standing beside him and he had thought it best to erase her quirk temporarily. She had slumped over once he had.

He had expended much of his quirk the next day finding out what had happened. He had kept his sights locked on her while she spoke, knowing she could bring down the building around them. She had explained that some man appeared with several others and tried to pursued her mother to go with them and to take the two children with them. Her mother, being the kindhearted hero she knew refused. Nothing good could come from these men. She refused to be touched by them as well, and fought as hard as she could. Her grandfather had fought them as well, but they were out numbered. Her mother had told her to protect her brother, Souta and she tried. She hid with him in a closet but it did little good. She had watched as they first slain her grandfather. He was already up there in years and didn't really do anymore hero work. Her mother fought the best she could, but one of them got in a killing hit. Her mother had been pierced through the heart by the quirk of another and no matter how much she willed her healing quirk to reach her mother, it hadn't been enough. She was dead before she hit the ground. She had been roughly pulled out of the closet with her screaming baby brother. She held him tight as things around the house levitated. They launched at them. A clumsy swing from a would-be villain pierced through her chest, missing her heart and impaling her brother through the head. His blood had oozed through her arms, her quirk going into overdrive to heal her and she willed it to save him too. It didn't though. She wasn't strong enough to heal life threatening wounds at the time.

Tears had cascaded down her eyes as the thing that impaled them was roughly yanked out by the villain. She shook him, voice whispering for him to move, to cry, to do something. But he didn't. She could see his life force slipping away and it undone her. She cried out loud, her voice taking on a destructive edge before the leader leapt back, watching as his men started to bleed from their eyes, nose, ears and mouth. Some had exploded, blood being splattered everywhere. The house started crumbling, but she hadn't stopped. There was an explosion from the kitchen and the bathroom upstairs that had started a fire. The leader had fled as the heroes showed up.

He remembered that she had tears running down her face as she retold her story to them. That was the night her destructive voice had made itself known.

He shook himself from the memory and looked at her. "That is a good goal to strive for." He looked her over. She had done well against Bakugo in their fight. He was sure Bakugo was surprised by her fighting style. Hopefully the loss would get through the thick head of his most stubborn student. He had instigated the fight after all. "We'll start working on that tomorrow, Kagome. You should go home and rest. You did good today."

Alright, sensai. Maybe I can catch up with Shouto. She bowed. Have a great day. She turned from his desk and headed out the door before sliding it closed behind her. Shouto, she reached out for his mind. I'll be outside in a minute. Wait for me please. She ran through the halls and to the front of the school. She saw him and slowed as she neared his side. Thanks for waiting for me.

"No problem, Kagome," he said, causing the others to turn towards them. Yaoyorozu seemed to give her a dirty look. "Not staying behind today." She shook her head.

Sensai thinks I need to rest today.

"Alright." He turned towards the gates with Iida and Yaoyorozu. She came up next to him. "Are you all caught up with what you missed?" She nodded her head.

Sensai gave me all the makeup tests during lunch. Thanks for dropping off the notes and homework. It was a lifesaver. She straightened her top and pushed down her skirt.

"That's good. Father would have been upset if you fell behind." She had a flash back to Endeavor's words to not embarrass him.

That would be unacceptable, she agreed.

"Why does it matter how she does?" Yaoyorozu asked, upset that this new girl had all his attention despite not saying anything. "Why would anyone worry about how well an orphan is doing?"

Kagome stopped in her tracks. I'll see you at home, Shouto. She turned and bolted down a street, her healing quirk focused in her legs to make her form vanish faster from their sight.

He became upset with the heiress. He knew she had a crush on him. He was flattered but he didn't feel the same for her. "My father is her legal guardian." His eyes narrowed at him, and he clenched his hand into a fist. His ice side coming forward and encasing it in ice. "And I care about her. I've grown up with her. She has expectations she has to meet. Expectations my father set down for her, that she strives to meet since he is the only father she remembers." He released his fist, the ice melting away, and walked away from the jealous form of the heiress. His father wouldn't be happy about this when he found out, which was bound to happen.
