December 28, 2017 - 2:00 P.M. - Wright & Co Law Offices

I sat on the small futon couch impatiently checking my cell phone. My fiance, Miles Edgeworth, sat next to me on the couch. He sat with his arms crossed. He also seemed impatient, if not a little more so. I could sense that he was feeling a little anxious as well. I looked across the room from where we were sitting. Phoenix Wright's assistant, Maya Fey had just taken a seat in the small arm chair. She took note of Miles' impatience and anxiety.

"Jessica, is Mr. Edgeworth really ok with this?" Maya asked in a concerned tone.

My eyes widened at her question. Was my fiance really alright with this? That question lingered in the back of my mind. I thought back to a few days ago. Maya Fey had approached Miles. She asked him how he'd been faring since his trial a year ago. He said he was mostly at peace but there were still days that were hard for him. It was then that Maya offered to channel Gregory Edgeworth's spirit so that Miles could have one last conversation with his father. He was hesitant at first but he accepted Maya's offer.

Now, as I sat in Phoenix's small office, I wondered if my fiance was truly alright. I turned my head to Miles.

"Dearest? Are you alright with Maya channeling your father?" I asked.

Miles uncrossed his arms and looked towards me. "Yes. I'm fine with it." He replied with a small smile.

I nodded in response and turned my attention back to the girl sitting in front of us.

"Maya, are you sure it's ok that we're doing this in Phoenix's office?" I asked.

"Of course it's alright. Nick was actually the one who suggested using his office. He even offered to take Pearls out to eat so we'd have this space to ourselves." Maya explained.

Miles and I nodded in response. After a minute, Maya continued to speak.

"Now it'll take a minute for me to call your dad, Mr. Edgeworth. But when he's here, I'll be unconscious so your conversation will be totally private." Maya explained.

Miles nodded. After a second, we gave Maya the 'go ahead' to start. She nodded and closed her eyes and clasped her hands together. She started focusing her energy. As she was doing this, we sat in silence. I could see that Miles was skeptical of Maya's spirit channeling. I sighed a bit and closed my eyes, hoping and praying that this would work.
Suddenly, I heard a gentleman's voice. Could it be him?

Miles...

I heard the man's voice. And as I opened my eyes, I looked over to where my fiance was sitting. Miles had his head down as if he didn't hear his name being called. The voice called out again.

Miles?

This time Miles lifted his head at the sound of the voice. He quietly responded to the voice's owner.

"F...Father?" Miles asked the man now sitting in Maya's place.

I looked in the direction the armchair. I could see that Maya's clothes hadn't changed but her face changed to that of an older man. I knew for sure that the ritual worked. I smiled to myself and sat back quietly. I wanted to give my fiance all the time he needed.

After a minute, Gregory got up from the chair. He walked over to the couch. He smiled and put his hand on his son's shoulder. "My son. Oh my son. Look how much you've grown." he said lovingly.

Miles looked up at his father. "...I-I've missed you.." He said with a bit of a shaky voice.

"I know. I miss you as well." Gregory replied back sounding as sincere as ever.

After a few seconds, Miles suddenly embraced his father. Gregory reciprocated his son's sudden gesture. I heard my fiance quietly sobbing into his father's chest. The older man gently soothed his son's sobs. When he was calmer, I heard Miles whisper something to Gregory.

"...Father...I-I'm sorry..." Miles whispered somberly.

This statement made Gregory look down at his son. "What are you sorry for? You didn't do anything wrong." he replied sounding a bit confused.

Miles pulled away from his father's embrace. He looked away and clutched his arm. "...I hurt countless people. I betrayed you father."

Gregory gave his son a look of great compassion. "Miles, look at me." he started.

Miles looked up at his father. The older man continued talking.

"You couldn't help the situation you were in. Von Karma took you in and raised you as his own, only to turn around and betray you. I'm sorry that you had to suffer so badly. No child should ever go through what you went through." Gregory explained somberly.

Miles smiled in response. "...I know but...I-I promise I'll make you proud of me."

Gregory smiled back. "You already have. You're following your own path in life. That's all I ever wanted you to do." he replied gently.

Miles smiled again and embraced his father. Gregory returned his son's embrace. I watched the father and son duo from where I was still sitting on the couch. I felt a smile forming across my face. I was so happy that my fiance was having this special moment. I continued to watch them quietly when suddenly my cell phone started going off. I quickly grabbed my phone, trying my best to silence it but it was too late. By the time I silenced my phone, I noticed Miles and Gregory looking at me.

"U-Um sorry guys. Go ahead and continue. I'll just excuse myself." I said nervously as I started to get up from where I was sitting.

"No it's alright, Jessica. Come over here closer to me." Miles replied.

I nodded and moved closer to where my fiance was sitting. Miles wrapped his arm around my shoulders.

"F-Father? Do you remember Jessica?" Miles asked sounding a bit shy.

Gregory turned to me. "Of course I remember her. She was your childhood love after all." He replied with a gentle smile.

"Hello, sir. It's good to be able to talk to you again." I replied politely.

Gregory patted my head and chuckled a bit. "You're older but yet you still remind me of when you came over to our house all those years ago."

I smiled warmly. After a minute, Miles spoke up again.

"Actually, Father. In couple of weeks, Jessica and I are going to be married." Miles explained blushing a bit.

Gregory seemed happy by the news that his son had just presented him with. "I'm happy for you, son. I knew somehow that you would marry her." he replied with a smile.

Miles smiled but then his expression changed back to a somber one. "Father, I wish you could physically attend my wedding." he said.

"I wish I could be there too, but I'll be with you in spirit." Gregory replied reassuringly.

Miles and I smiled and nodded.

There was a small moment of silence. After a little bit, Gregory looked at the clock hanging on the wall of Phoenix's office.

"Well, it's time for me to go. I don't want to linger here too long." Gregory said.

"Farewell, Father. I...love you." Miles said with a small smile.

"I love you too son. Remember I'm always watching you. I'm proud of the man you've become. And Jessica? Watch over my son and be there for him when he needs you." Gregory explained.

"I will sir. I'm glad that I get to be your daughter-in-law." I replied with a smile.

"Father, I'll keep you close always." Miles added.

Gregory Edgeworth smiled at me and Miles. We watched as his spirit left Maya's body. The teen staggered and almost fell as she regained consciousness. Miles and I caught her and stayed with her until she fully recovered. After a few seconds, Maya opened her eyes and looked up at us.

"D...Did you get a chance to talk with your dad, Mr. Edgeworth?" Maya asked. She was now sitting in between me and Miles.

Miles nodded slightly. "Yes, I did. Thank you again for this." he said gratefully.

Maya clasped her hands and nodded happily. "Of course! I was happy to help you any way I could."

"Well, Miles and I should be going. We've got some other things to do today. Can we give you a ride home, Maya?" I asked.

The teen shook her head. "No that's ok. I'm gonna wait here. Nick and Pearls should be back soon."

Miles nodded. "Alright. Give Wright my thanks as well." he said with his usual smirk.

Maya nodded in response. After a few seconds, Miles and I left Phoenix's office. We walked to our car. After we got into the vehicle, I saw Miles staring out the front windshield.

"Are you alright, dear?" I asked in a concerned tone.

Miles looked at me and gently patted my hand. "Yeah, I'm alright,"

I smiled back knowing that my fiance was at peace. We drove back to the Prosecutor's Office feeling very content.

You're my son. I love you and I'm always watching over you.
