Keep Fighting – Chapter 5

Are you sure you don't want to come?

When she woke up that morning, the first thing she did was call her parents. Alex had got them both ComTCD's for Kaldoras, so they were still getting used to the new technology, but only after a minute they picked up.

"Hey darling!" Her mother answered, "How are you?

"I'm fine," she replied, "How about you?"

"Yeah great, we have organised with King Roka to find a house today, which is so exciting!"

"Yeah it is, look mum I was wondering if I could drop by sometime today? I'm going to stay with the Ronnigan's for a couple of days, so could I visit on the way?"

Her mother took no time to reply. "Absolutely! But is Kaiden coming with you?"

Alex rolled her eyes. Of course, she would ask that.

"No, he is staying with his Aunty and sister for a while."

Even over the phone, Alex knew her mother was disappointed.

"Well I'll see you soon then." Her mother told her.

"Ok mum, I love you. See you soon!" Alex hung up from her ComTCD, looking over at Dix who was laying on her bed.

"I'm all good to come with you, but I'll go visit mum and dad before I leave. Sound good?"

"Sure does? You need to get packing." So, she did.

Half an hour later, the duo walked down to breakfast, seeing the others had already begun eating. Alex sat next to Kaiden, turning to him as he ate scrambled eggs.

"I just talked to mum. She said I could drop by on my way to the Ronnigan's. She was very sad that you weren't going to be there." Alex said, emphasising the word. Kaiden laughed, and she admired him for brushing off her parents remarks and hints about the two of them.

"Good, at least you can see her for a bit. I'm think she will be happy to see you."

"Maybe. Anyway, are you sure that you don't want to come with us? The Ronnigan's would love to have you." Alex tried to convince.

"No, it's ok, I promised Nisha and Jeera that I would spend some time with them. And your probably sick of me by now."

Alex laughed softly, "Of course not, but I understand."

For the rest of the morning they sat and talked sharing laughter and stories, but Alex was slightly quiet. She was thinking about Dorothy at Kaldoras and how sad she was that her husband wasn't there with her family. She caused that, she caused that pain, and Alex couldn't do anything to stop it.

"Are you ready to go Alex?"

She looked up to see Dix watching her expectantly.

"Of course."

She got up, leaving half her breakfast behind, and followed the others out the door. Grabbing her bag, she said goodbye to Declan and Kaiden, the former staying with Kaiden's family for a few days. She told the others that they will see her soon, smashing a Bubbledoor to the ground and stepping through.

Alex arrived at a small cottage, with white walls and a dark grey tiled roof surrounded by the beautiful trees or Meya. It was cosy and cute, and she knew that was where her parents were temporally staying. Immediately her mum rushed out of the house, wrapping her arms around her daughter. Her dad followed, enveloping her in a hug. Tailing behind was Roka, who also greeted Alex with a quick hug, ruffling her hair as he did so.

"It's so nice of you to come and join us for a bit." Alex's mum said, "We'd love to know you opinion on the house we might choose."

"Yeah, at least you're going to have a place roomier than the cottage you're in now." Alex replied, pointing to the house behind her as she walked down the path, heading toward the centre of the city.

"Yes, well let's get started, shall we?" The King asked. Rachel and Jack nodded eagerly, and the Valispath picked the four of them up, moving faster than any car in Freya.

Trees, houses, shops, and people were all a blur as they flew past, wind whipping their faces and messing their hair. Slowly, they came to a stop, landing in the middle of a busy street, filled with stunning Meyarins shopping for food for the holidays. They walked down a bright alleyway, people still bustling past, knocking shoulders with the four as they passed. Some recognised Roka, giving him a wave, but most remained oblivious to them.

"Is this it?" Jack questioned when they arrived in front of a small cottage, very similar to the one they just came from.

"It's cute," Rachel said, "But too small. I think I want a place with a bit of space, where we can have all our archaeology tools and equipment, and some room for future grandchildren as well." She looked over to Alex at this who looked shocked at the idea. Roka laughed nervously, and they were enclosed in the Valispath once again.

Standing there, rocking slightly to keep her balance, Alex thought about what her mother had said. Grandchildren. Grandchildren. It's not that she hadn't thought about it before, but she has had so much going on in her life that she wasn't worried about that sort of stuff. It was only until a couple of weeks ago that she knew she had a life ahead of her. And she felt guilty even thinking about having a family. She felt guilty for all those people who will never see their family again, or their children… grandchildren. And it was her fault that this happened, she was the one to blame.

Finally, they arrived at the second house, and she gasped at the sight. It was huge. As in Jordan's parent's house huge.

"Well," Her father said, "I don't think we'll have that many grandchildren."

Alex sighed and rubbed her forehead.

"Look I think I'll just head to Bear's place. I'll come visit you guys once you're sure you've chosen a house."

"But what if you don't like the house we choose?" Her mum questioned, walking towards her daughter and hugging her tight.

"Mum, you'll be fine. Stop worrying about me, I'll like whatever you choose." Alex said, as she gently pushed her mum towards the rest of the group.

"I know sweetheart, but are you sure?" Her mum asked.

"Yes mum, I'll be at the Ronnigan's. Just call me once you're done. Ok?" Alex gestured to the teal ComTCD. They were amazed by the technology when they got it, and asked lots of questions. Alex left that explaining to Bear.

"Ok," her mum replied, "I love you."

"Love you too mum!"

After another quick hug, Alex silently summoned Soraya, and in a flash of shadow and light, they disappeared from the driveway of the mansion.
