Ochako was laying on a couch in the ladies' part of the dorm on the second floor, yawning as she woke up from her nap, her arms stretching up above her head. Sitting up from her lovely soft leather temporary bed, she looked out the window and saw Deku doing his second workout of the day underneath the same tree he had worked out under earlier. The moonlight was more than enough to illuminate him enough for Ochako to see his quickly moving form between exercises, his shirt fluttering up to show his abs, though at this distance it was hard to make them out entirely.
"Does he ever rest?" Ochako squeaked as several of the other girls snuck up on her and sat in other assorted seats around her. Ashido glanced out the window and smiled at Ochako, her eyes narrowing as she lightly elbowed Ochako's ribs. Momo let out a little giggle at Ashido's teasing, her own eyes sliding over to glance at the exercising magician. Well, they didn't know he was a magician, but Ochako did.
"Spying on the resident cinnamon roll, huh?" Ochako blushed and shook her head, a pout directed towards her pink haired friend.
"No! I was taking a nap and woke up to see him outside exercising." Her eyes drifted towards him again though, sighing as she thought about him. She had been thinking an awful lot about him lately, though a fair bit of that was worrying about him. Even forgetting everything they'd been talking about, mostly his past and the worry he had about his magical abilities. He'd been pushing himself extra hard during the sports festival. Laughing to herself, she shook her head, not that he ever took it easy in the first place, he always just acted like everything would be okay no matter how reckless he acted.
"Well it's not exactly a secret that Midoriya exercises a lot, I've seen him coming back from his workouts at eight on the weekends when I am just starting to wake up. Apparently he starts at five!" Momo said. Leaning back against the couch and sighing, Momo gave Ochako a small smile. Ashido nodded, pulling out her phone to show them a picture of a collapsed Kirishima next to Midoriya smiling awkwardly on a track.
"Kiri tried to keep up with Midori on his exercise and sent me this picture saying how hard it is. Apparently Midori got work out advice from All Might. Can you even imagine how brutal that workout regimen must be?" Ashido asked. Ochako actually shuddered; she'd asked All Might for workout advice and he'd just handed her a binder, an almost overflowing binder, with a workout for every day of the year, starting out rough and getting to the point where you'd have to be All Might himself to do them. Ochako glanced around the gathered group to see several of them shuddering as well before Ashido snapped her fingers and smiled brightly at her friends.
"Did you guys see that 1-B student flirting with Midori?" Ashido asked, sitting on the armrest of the couch Ochako was on before falling back, her head landing next to Ochako's thigh.
"NO! Who was it?" Toru asked excitedly. Ashido laughed, sliding her legs off the couch to sit up, obviously happy to gossip. Ochako tried to look disinterested… but probably failed miserably.
"I dunno, the black haired girl? She was just talking to him about something, I didn't get too close but I could tell by the blush on Midori that it was something about him. I forgot how cherry red he could get, he's gotten so comfortable around most of the class it's weird to think about him being so shy around new people," Ashido went on. Momo nodded, running a hand through her free flowing hair.
"I was thinking about asking him out on a date myself, but I worry he'd agree just because of our history." Momo said. Ochako looked up in surprise.
"You two dated before UA?" Tsuyu asked. Ochako let out a sigh, at least someone else had asked it, not that Ochako cared. Deku could date who he wanted, obviously. Momo shook her head, her stupid perfect hair barely budging, holding a hand up to her lips.
"Oh no! Nothing like that! We just met after he tried out for UA, he um… helped me. I'm not allowed to talk about it past that, at least till my father ties up the last loose ends. But I admire him for his bravery." Momo explained. Ochako nodded, happy to hear that it was just a mistake.
"Psh, better hurry up Momo, I mean look at him! He's cute and getting pretty hot too, from what I've seen I mean. Who knows who might ask him out!" Ashido went on. Momo just shook her hand dismissively.
"We're heroes in training, I seriously doubt Midoriya is even considering a relationship right now. More importantly, we should discuss the sports festival." Momo said. Ochako was happy for the change of topic, her own emotions were pretty wild right now and she didn't want to add Deku or any thoughts of romance involving him into the mix.
"I suppose any one of us might end up fighting another girl from our group, I wish you all luck but I won't be losing!" Momo declared. Ochako barely heard her. Despite trying not to think about Deku, she couldn't help but let her mind drift back towards him and who his opponent might be… like, for example, the exploding jerk Bakugo. Shaking her head and letting out a groan, she laid back against her own couch and stared at the ceiling. Lifting her hand up and staring at the pads on her fingers, she blinked in surprise at a light glow emanating from them briefly before fading away.
"Hey, I mean Momo it's cool that you think that and all but let's get real about who's going to win the festival." Jirou said. Ochako looked away from her fingers for a moment to see everyone staring at Jirou in suspense, who just looked mildly annoyed at Momo for the moment. Ochako glanced back at her fingers to see the last of the light dissipating.
"It's obvious who the real contenders are in the festival from our year, let alone our class. It's either gonna be Bakugo, Todoroki, or Midroiya. The difference in raw power alone is stupid, like they're so strong we might as well be ants. You all remember USJ; Midoriya froze like the entire vanguard at once according to Aizawa, Todoroki took out an entire legion in half a second, and Bakugo literally beat up every villain in his way with Kirishima as back up. So I mean, until we get more practice, it's really the people with raw power who are going to win." Jirou said. Her speech put a damper on the mood in the room. Momo stood up and made a fist before punching the air with an uppercut.
"Regardless I'll go beyond, PLUS ULTRA! Just like All Might and Present Mic keep reminding us to do everyday! I know everyone else will do their best too!" Momo shouted. The group of girls cheered as Uraraka looked back at Deku working out under that tree, only to see him looking up towards her, his serious expression dropping for a moment as he smiled up at her. Smiling back at him she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath to calm herself. Maybe that weird glow was just part of her quirk… yeah, a part of her quirk that she hadn't seen in her twenty years of life, totally plausible.
'I'll ask Deku if he or Amelinda know anything after the sports festival. I don't want to distract Deku when we're all trying so hard to get recognized.'
"Well… that certainly is a strong case for him possessing magical abilities, Alicia." . As Queen Titania played back the footage of this "Midoriya", she could tell that there was a distinct possibility that he possessed magical abilities. Not to mention…
"Something powerful is attached to that child, regardless of whether his power is a "quirk" or magic based. There was certainly something strong enough to test itself against my early morning scrying of him. If I hadn't been focused it might have been strong enough to shield the boy from my gaze… he certainly has spunk." Titania continued. Her handmaidens muttered in agreement. Alicia stared at the brilliant shining flame this "Midoriya" shot out to defend himself from that shadowy bird and the boy generating ice.
"My lady, I beg you forgive my boldness, but perhaps it's time to call a council meeting to determine if it's safe to reinhabit the rest of the world?" Alicia asked. Her entire courtroom stared at her as she held a finger up to her lip, really studying Midoriya's movements and attacks.
"Hmm, I suppose that it's time to meet again anyways. When was our last meeting, last year?" Titania asked. Alicia let out a sigh. One of the downsides of the older Fae, despite their vast knowledge, was that they forgot how time passed for most beings.
"My lady, the last council meeting was last month, the last one you attended was over a decade ago. Princess Slyphia has been attending in your place," Jemania said. Alicia nodded at her fellow handmaiden, thankful at least one her fellows was gutsy enough to speak. The princess was actually vacationing in Japan; it wouldn't take too much to convince her to attend the sports festival and maybe see firsthand the boy's abilities.
"My lady, Princess Sylphia is currently in Japan… perhaps she could attend the festival? Maybe try and speak with the boy? Learn about him and see if he really is magical?" Alicia nervously asked, not wanting to overstep her place, particularly with how volatile her queen had been lately with humans and wiping their memories.
"Hmm? Oh yes, she always has enjoyed attending those silly things. Very well. Alicia, set up a meeting with the council, contact my dear daughter and tell her to attend the festival. I am retiring for the evening. Good night my loyal subjects." Titania said, yawning as she stood up and flew up into her chambers. Alicia sighed; perhaps she would finally be able to leave the queen's court if the council decided it was time for mystical beings to rejoin the human's quirked society. As the court slowly left the courtroom, Alicia pulled out her phone and started searching through her contacts for her dear friend Sylphia.
Ochako shot up, sweat coating her entire body, hugging her shoulders making sure her arms were still there. She tried, and failed, to hold in a sob. She'd had another nightmare about that… thing that tried to tear her in half, and it always ended the same way with Deku passing out, too exhausted to help her. Taking in a deep breath to try and slow down her sobbing, she wiped her eyes and looked at the time.
"Only six huh… Last night was that jerkass's turn to cook, maybe some sushi will make me feel better." Standing up and wrapping her blanket around her shoulders, she let out another sob as she opened her door, praying that no one was around to see her in her disheveled state. Traumatic nightmare or not, she had a tournament to attend today and she needed to calm herself down and focus. Sneaking around corners, ensuring no one saw her, she almost made it to the kitchen only to find another distraction waiting in the first floor common room. Deku was sitting in front of a turned off TV, staring at it while squeezing his thigh.
"Deku?" She whispered. Shaking her head when he didn't respond, she walked closer towards him, pulling her blanket up like a hood so he wouldn't see her puffy eyes. Stopping a few feet from him, she let out a little cough.
"Deku?" She asked. He jumped in his seat and turned to see her, smiling at her awkwardly. His eyes seemed to shine in the near darkness.
"O-oh Uraraka… I'm not used to other people being up at this time." He said. His eyes shifted away from hers. He seemed more… guarded than usual.
"Oh, u-um, yeah. I uh, had a bad dream. Just needed a pick-me-up before everyone else woke up and the bombing bastard can cook sushi pretty well so… yeah." Ochako said, taking a seat next to him, forgetting that she'd gotten up for a snack. She leaned forward and looked at him more closely.
"So, what's up? Usually you're out doing a warm up run or something, but I mean, you're not even remotely sweaty." Ochako questioned. Deku just shook his head, leaning his head back against the couch and staring up at the ceiling.
"I've been thinking about something and, well, I had to do something to help someone that's been bothering me and...I'm gonna tell you something and I'm going to ask you not to tell anyone." Deku said. Ochako nodded and reached over to squeeze his shoulder. She leaned her own head back and stared up at the ceiling, grateful that he was talking instead of her.
"I-I killed a villain to save someone right after the entrance exams," he said. Ochako shook a little, sitting up and staring at him. He didn't look back at her though, instead studying the ceiling before continuing.
"I-I thought I was over it. The person I saved was the child of someone with a lot of influence, so they covered it all up and got me out scot free. All Might knows, at least I think he does, I think most of the UA personnel that teach us know actually. I thought I was over it but lately…" He whimpered as he leaned forward and stared at the TV again, his shoulders shaking.
"It's just… with everything that's happened, I'm just worried that if I fight a villain again, I might take it overboard like with the first villain I fought." He said. Ochako stared at him as he reached up and wiped his eyes. Ochako reached over and squeezed his hand, startling him and making him look at her.
"Deku. I don't know anything about the villain you, um, killed. But, I think that if you did end someone's life you'd have a very good reason. I mean, you're the nicest, gentlest guy I know. Most of us know you hold back a lot when we're training," she said, smiling at him, as the slowly rising sun started to illuminate both of them.
"So don't worry about it. I know that you won't resort to such a drastic solution unless it's absolutely necessary." She said. Deku just smiled at her, tears welling up in his emerald eyes.
"Your praise is too much Uraraka. I-I… you're right. Even All Might has permanently stopped villains in his day, maybe not by killing them, but he's crippled some villains, like Toxic Chainsaw! Their fight lasted for an hour!" Uraraka smiled at him as he started going off on a tangent about their fight and how awesome All Might had been. Looking at the blank TV, she smiled at herself, her eyes already back to normal. Deku had plenty on his plate already, he didn't need to overly worry about her. She'd be fine; she always was. He'd saved her twice already, and he was always willing to help others. It was nice to see him vent a little and open up. Staring at him, that brightness he seemed to exhume made her tear up a little.
'Next time… I'll save you, Deku,' she promised herself. She smiled at her friend as he kept talking till the sun came up and they both had to get ready for the tournament.
