Chapter 4

A couple of weeks go by, and Ember's plan begins to fall into place.

During her weekly stroll through Amity Park awhile ago, she just happened to slip her debut CD into a record producer's office and it just so happened to blow up, and her song has become the biggest hit since who knows what.

That's only phase 1 though, phase 2 starts with her making her way back into Amity Park again and setting up a little one concert deal with the biggest promoter around to sell out the biggest arena in the state.

'Man, Kitty would absolutely love what's about to happen,' Ember thought with a small sigh. A day ago Kitty and her dumb boyfriend Johnny decided to go wait in that dumb line and try to get into the human realm.

'If only they took a second to learn my powers,' she thought kind of annoyed. She felt like whenever those two were together she was just an insignificant afterthought, which gave her unfortunate flashbacks.

Shaking the thoughts of her past away, she realized it was time for her to head into Amity Park and set the next part of her plan into action.

She could already tell that Amity Park was now obsessed with her hit new single Remember, and she was fully prepared to have those mouth breathers eating out of the palm of her hand.

During her whole life, people like that would push her around and treat her like she was subhuman, and now it was time for a little revenge.

And she sure as hell wasn't gonna let the halfa get in her way.

She has contingencies set up already in case he tried to stop her, and the first part of that was drawing him out of hiding, and the best place to start was where she saw him for the very first time; Casper High.

As the flatbed truck that housed her bands equipment pulled up in front of the school, she began to get into performer mode. She felt her powers surging as she got closer to the school.

She could tell how enamored the town had become with her song, and she was ready to rock a crowd.

The truck finally stopped, and the huge speakers started up with the loud drums blaring towards the front of the building.

Within minutes the entire student body had spilled out onto the front lawn and gathered around the rock star diva and her band.

"Hello Casper High, tell me who you love!" Ember yelled into the microphone towards the sea of teens.

"Ember! Ember! Ember!" they chanted as Ember's hair grew a couple inches longer as she felt the power this crowd was feeding her.

Looking out over the crowd she scanned until she saw any kind of sign of the halfa, until finally her eyes landed on a raven haired boy standing next to some gothic emo looking girl.

'Jackpot.'

'Aw man,' Danny sighed as his ghost sense went off, this was so not what he needed right now.

The entire crowd seemed to enamored with Ember that no one could even see Danny as he transformed into his ghost form.

Just then out of the corner of his eye, he noticed dumb old Mr. Lancer climbing up on a fire hydrant with a megaphone.

"I order you to cease and desist!" he screamed. Ember didn't take too kindly to his request to say the least.

"Desist this grandpa!" she yelled back as she twisted a nob on her guitar and strummed as hard as she could.

Suddenly all of the teens eyes flashed red and they turned their attention towards Lancer with intent to cause pain.

Danny's eyes widened as he realized what just happened, "Ember's the ghost?! 'Why do the cute ones always have to be crazy,' he thought to himself.

He shook the thought of what he just said out of his mind, "Oh my gosh! I gotta save Lancer!" he realized as he sprung into action.

Turning himself invisible, he simply grabbed Lancer by the shoulders and made them both intangible so the raging mob would pass right through them.

'Wow, this is bittersweet.'

After the mob passed by, he turned his attention to the pop diva only to find she was nowhere to be found.

Everything that was set up had magically disappeared including Ember.

'Why do I get the feeling that this is gonna be a big problem for me?'

"All things considered I think that went pretty well," Ember explained to her band as they set up at Bucky's Music Mega Store. Now phase II could begin.

Word spread like wildfire the second the huge banners of Ember went up outside, and she could already hear the raging crowd outside the venue.

"Now that I have the Dipstick's attention, I can draw him here and give him a distraction to last just long enough for my plan to come to fruition!" she explained gleefully.

As the doors opened up and the entire teen population of Amity Park poured through the front doors, Ember felt more powerful than ever.

The entire city was cheering her name, and soon it would be the entire world!

In about 30 minutes Danny had already arrived on the scene.

"Hey everybody look! It's Ember McLame!" shouted a voice off in the corner.

She quickly found Danny's goth friend Sam hanging off the huge cutout of Ember and defacing it. 'As much as I need the little brat for my plan, she just rubs me the wrong way, which means, I won't feel bad about this!'

Just as she was powering up her guitar and about to strum, a bright green ecto blast connected right to her chest, sending her flying back 20 feet.

"Hey! Do you take requests? How about Beat It?" yelled the unmistakably boy scouty voice of Danny.

'Oh great, a comedian,' she thought to herself annoyed as she began to pick herself up again. "How bout I just lay down some power chords instead, Dipstick!" she yelled back as a huge green fist shot out of her guitar.

Her blast connected perfectly, this time knocking Danny back through the air. She giggled maniacally as she strummed once again and began to teleport up onto the roof of the venue.

Danny quickly phased through the roof in pursuit, now it was just him and Ember.

"Dipstick, ho ho. Who writes your insults? The same hack who writes your songs?" he quipped, grinning ear to ear with how clever he thought that one was.

Clearly Ember was not a fan, as she lunged forward and locked up with Danny.

Both ghostly teens tried to overpower the other, and it seemed they were evenly matched until Danny noticed the huge crowd on the street below start to get louder.

Ember's hair grew immensely and it seemed like she had gained a second wind. She began to overpower him with ease.

'I've had dreams like this but they never ended with me getting my butt kicked!' Danny blushed at the thought and for that split second, Ember was able to catch him off guard and tossed him aside with ease.

Slamming into the giant Ember cutout, causing it to fall over and dangle over the edge of the building.

Grunting and holding his head he began to sit up as he realized, "the chanting...makes you stronger?"

Ember laughed, "That's right Babypop! And if you think I'm powerful now, just wait until midnight, when my concert goes global!"

Just then, Sam came running over from the access stairs and got in between Danny and Ember.

"Sam what are you doing?! Get outta here before you get hurt!" he yelled.

Sam just ignored him and and stood up to Ember. "Get away from him!" she yelled protectively.

Danny was still groggy, but he could see Ember's face growing into a smirk as she realized the situation they found themselves in.

Everything seemed jumbled and he couldn't quite make out what anyone was saying.

'Oh gosh, did I get a concussion?' he thought to himself in confusion.

He looked up in time to see a huge pink wave of energy pass through him and suddenly everything went black for a second.

"What a sucker!" Ember gloated as she got ready for her world changing concert.

"It's a good thing that goth chick showed up, otherwise I woulda had to make Babypop fall in love with me, and that'd just be weird."

'Although, he is kinda cute, and he does seem like a genuinely good guy...'

She felt her face getting hot as she shook her head violently, 'No! Get those thoughts out of your head Ember, that's disgusting.'

Just then one of the stagehands knocked on the door, "You're on in five."

That was what she needed to snap herself out of her thoughts about Danny, just in time too.

'Alright McLain, it's now or never, this is your one chance to show the world you're not a failure, to prove everyone wrong who said you couldn't do it.'

Standing up, she grabbed her guitar, adjusted her hair, and grabbed the knob of the dressing room door.

'It's showtime.'

"Danny, stop her now! Forget about me!"

Sam, Tucker, the aloof Danny had all tried to crash Ember's concert before it could even start, only to be caught by her security detail.

Who also just so happened to be the two dumbest jocks she could find, Dash and Kwan.

Ever since the fight at Bucky's Danny has been head over heels for Sam, to the point that she's all he can think about. Certainly there was no way he would be able to stop Ember on his own.

Which gave Sam an idea, not a good one, but an idea none the less.

"Ember! Ember! Ember!"

Sam could hear the crowd growing louder and louder and she knew they were running out of time here.

"If I cant break Ember's spell, I'm going to have to break your heart," she yelled as she turned around quickly in Dash's arms and planted him with a huge kiss.

Danny's eyes widened in fear and disbelief.

"How could you?!" he yelled in anguish. He could feel every little piece of his heart shattering inside his chest, leaving an empty pit.

As Sam and Dash pulled away from each other, Dash ran off disgusted and Sam wiped her mouth so she didn't catch the stupid from him.

Through the pain and depression he was feeling, he could feel himself becoming more aware of his surroundings and where he was at. Then he laid eyes on the one responsible for all this.

Just a couple feet away from him was Ember, singing her heart out with not a care in the world, as all of her plans were finally coming true.

Sam comes up from behind him and lays a hand on his shoulder.

Danny instinctively tenses up and clenches both his fists as his eyes turn a burning green.

"Danny, are you okay?" she asked softly.

Danny didn't know how he was feeling, but it was as far from okay as he could be right about now.

"No, I feel like my heart's been ripped out, but I know who I can take it out on!" he yelled as those two familiar rings formed around him, and he transformed into his ghostly form.

Within a second he had taken off in Ember's direction, intent on revenge for his broken dead heart.

As Ember's belting the words to her hit song, suddenly she's knocked off the stage and through the air into one of the big screens behind her.

"Hey no hit wonder, mind if I jam with the band?" Danny asked sarcastically.

'Good to know I can smile through the pain,' he thought to himself.

Ember climbs out of the shattered screen, and hops back onto her guitar to meet Danny in the air.

"Get this straight Dipstick, I don't do duets!" she screamed as she strummed on her guitar, sending a huge green fist right towards Danny, knocking him into the rabid crowd.

'Now that that's taken care of...' Ember steps back up to the microphone to continue her performance, except when she opens her mouth, there's no microphone in sight.

Danny swiped it while she had her eyes shut and started taunting her.

"Sorry, no vocals in this number!" he joked sarcastically.

Ember could feel the rage welling up inside her as she leaped through the air, bringing her guitar crashing down towards Danny, who blocked it with the mic stand. The two dueling as if they were both equipped with swords.

After a minute or so of dueling, Ember manages to bust the mic stand and send Danny flying backwards, encasing him in a pink vortex, trapping him.

Walking up to Danny with a hand on her hip, she decided to taunt him.

"As much as I loved our little sparring match Babypop, I kinda have a world to rule here, so if you'll excuse me..."

Thinking quickly, Danny tosses the microphone to a shocked Tucker offstage and tells him to sing his heart out.

'World, I'm sorry for what you're about to hear.' Danny thought as he covered his ears.

Tucker started to belt the worlds to Remember, except very out of pitch and with absolutely no musical talent. But much to Ember's chagrin, Tucker's horrible singing seemed to snap the crowd out of Ember's trance.

"No stop!" she screamed desperately. She felt her power draining from her as her hair began to shrink.

"Come on, tell me who you love!"

crickets*

She fell to her knees, begging for anyone to just say her name as she crumpled onto the floor apoplectic.

The vortex surrounding Danny lifted, and he walked up to the fallen Ember, feeling sorta bad for her lying on the ground like that.

He knew what it was like to be overlooked by everyone and heartbroken as your dreams crashed and failed.

Solemnly, he took out the Fenton Thermos and pointed it in her direction. He looks down and sees her looking up at him almost pleading.

"I'm sorry Ember..." was all he could muster as he clicked the button and watched as she was sucked up into the thermos.

And just like that, everything was over. Danny saved the day again, yet this time he just felt empty.

Sam and Tucker rushed over to him to congratulate him on another win, and the trio began to head home.

Tucker noticed how silent Danny was the entire way home, and after dropping off Sam at her mansion, the two best friends talked on their way home.

"How you doing bud?" Tucker asked, worried about his best friend.

Danny sighed, "I don't know man. Usually when we put a ghost away, I feel happy but that was just kind of sad. I don't get it."

Tucker witnessed the whole Sam and Dash thing and figured that was what caused the mood change in Danny.

"I'm sure everything will be back to normal in school on Monday dude. If you need anything, just call me alright?" they both nodded in agreement as Tucker peeled off up the steps leading to his front door, leaving Danny alone on his way to Fenton Works.

Silently, he pulled out his phone and went through his and Tucker's text conversation to a few days ago.

"There it is," he said with a soft smile as he opened up the mp3 file Tucker had sent him the other day of some song called Remember.

Now he knew what Tucker was so excited about.

As he continued on his way home, he said softly to himself, "I'll always remember your name."
