Prologue

For a long – long - time, there is nothing but darkness.

There is no light to speak of.

No sound that permeates the deafening silence.

He must have died.

That was the only logical conclusion he could think of.

His eyes and mouth refused to open as if they had been sewn closed. He couldn't hear the sound of his own breathing, couldn't move any part of his body. He had no idea if his limbs were even still attached to him. Surely, if he were in the land of the living, he would hear the noise of other humans, to see the warm light of a sun, to feel something… It was as if all of his senses were offline somehow.

"That's one way of putting it."

If his eyes could open, they would have popped out of his skull from the first sound he's heard in… days? Weeks? Maybe months?

The speaker was definitely female, but he couldn't place it within the vast dark sea that was his memory. Who was she? Who was he? How did he end up in this state and when would he recover from it?

"In time," the same voice assured him as if he had asked the question out loud. A gentle touch followed to his forehead. The first thing he has felt in forever. "You still need your rest. I will wake you when I deem that you are ready."

If it were possible, he would have frowned and curled his hands into fists at the statement. He hated this situation he was in. To be at the mercy of another, to not have any authority over his own person… it was unacceptable.

As if his thoughts were an open book for her to read, the speaker spoke to him once more.

"You have no choice but to accept it for now. You are not ready, and you will rest until you are."

Ready?

Ready for what?!

She did not answer him this time, and all he could hear were the soft clicks of her departure before the darkness claimed him once more.

His dreams were loud and filled with vivid colors, a vast difference from the bleak reality he kept returning to. However, it was the contents of his dreams that disturbed him. In truth, they raised more questions than provide answers to fill in the blank slate that was his past.

There were many people in these dreams, most wearing black. Unfortunately, he didn't remember or recognize any of them. In these dreams, their faces lacked features and they spoke in a distorted noise of male and female.

Certain individuals appeared more than others that at least he could distinguish by color.

White… is a female who appeared the most frequently in his visions. Her garb consisted only of white, and she wears it constantly. She was always close by, following him about like a second shadow.

Red is another young woman, whose colorful spiked-styled hair matched her fiery temper. She is both strong and determined a warrior to be reckoned with.

He wonders if both of them are out there, looking for him.

Or were they still fighting?

The landscape of his dream world is decimated by war. A sea of bright red explosions illuminates a starless sky. People, soldiers, and civilians alike, all crying and screaming from the mortal danger of a city turned battlefield. Metal leviathans of different colors, clash in battle, again and again. Ripping each other limb from limb with melee weapons, or blowing each other up with heavy artillery.

While each was all too eager to decimate the other, there was only one victor as the black-armored warriors were laid low. He watched, in both horror and dismay, at the slaughter that followed for those who refused to surrender. Finally, weapons were raised up to the sky, and he felt a fury like no other as they all yelled out three words.

"All Hail Britannia!"

'Reawakening…?'

[ 5, 4… ]

'Wait!'

[ …3, 2… ]

'What's happening?!'

[ ...1 ]

Violet- eyes snapped wide open to stare up at a dazzling galaxy.

He stared up unblinkingly at the millions of twinkling little stars until his mouth finally opened… and screamed bloody murder.

Author's Notes:

Sorry, this was un-betad and rushed. It's also the first piece of fan-fiction that I've written in like… ten years.
