"Status," Morgan Carolinus said as he drew back his fist. In front of him stood a slightly bent bar of White Adamite, a metal that was known for its rigidity. He didn't really like punching as it didn't match with his combat style but today wasn't a day in which he tried to push his limits and so he decided to have a relaxed day trying out something different. In the end as he looked down the list he noticed that not a single stat point was gained.

He took a shower then and wiped down his body before he left the bathroom and walked into the closet on the other side of the room. Shirts, coats and other upperwear hung on the wall in front of him while pants and other forms of underwear were folded in the cupboards just off the ground and shoes of all sorts lay on the floor. In a closed cupboard to the side lay gloves, scarves and other miscellaneous items. With a few quick calculations Morgan dressed himself in accordance with the tasks of today.

Seven was about the most number of artefacts that he could currently wear without the interference causing his overall abilities to lessen and so he reluctantly looked at the various items from his collection before he stepped out of the wardrobe and closed the door. Today he had a meeting with a devil; words right there that he didn't think he would ever say. Even if the devils of this world were practically puppies compared to that in his homeland he would still proceed with the utmost caution. In the end vigilance was the difference between the living and the dead.

Reaching the front door he reached into the nearby weapon rack and pulled out his most treasured item, a many grooved, sword that was warped in strange ways named Voidwind. Just picking it up caused the air to stir slightly, displaying the power of the rank 3 artefact that he had worked hard for two years to acquire. His Will flowed through the cutting edge and he sharpened his focus on the blade watching as his Will was matched by the bloodthirst of the cutting edge. With this sword in his hand his strength was doubled and his main weakness, his low attacking power, was practically eliminated.

" ," he spoke the words of the Second and his many armaments rippled and forged themselves into a facsimile of the Kuoh male school uniform; his sword became an umbrella that he placed upon his back. He quickly inserted the key into the front door and drew it open to the Kuoh Academy rooftop. Tapping his umbrella-sword against the ground he quickly jimmied the lock and headed down to his classroom. He had effectively placed the ball firmly in the non-humans court by allowing them to dictate the time and place of meeting, but unfortunately he had no choice.

He had overextended his authority by attempting to slay the devil and he was forced to use his own charisma to discourage any harsh feelings, but unfortunately charisma was not an omnipotent fix and small concessions could go a long way into convincing adversaries. Still if it was just the few of them then Morgan would have no cause to worry. No, in fact if they brought a hundred of them at their current level then his worry would be equally as non-existent.

Still deep in thought he made his way into his classroom before taking a seat at his desk and pulling out an advanced maths textbook. This world's understanding of mathematics was not only different but much more in depth than own and he decided to eagerly soak it in whenever possible. The manipulation of space was heavily linked to certain calculations and if he could use these human techniques in order to make his calculations more efficient than he would only benefit.

Frankly speaking there were a lot of aspects in which this world was superior, no doubt due to the soft living that the humans here could take advantage of. In terms of entertainment there was a nigh infinite amount of books and even things called TV and Computers on which to watch movies and play games. Morgan had been treating them with a fair distance in order to not grow too dependent on them; he didn't want to miss them when he went home. What he had been enjoying was music however. When he had first got his hand on a song he had listened to it for over a hundred times and had even repeated it in his head when he did his daily exercises. He had later gone out to buy himself a new music after about a week and then discovered that there were literally millions of songs. He had to slip out of the shop right then and disappear into his house where he could have a minor breakdown. Even some TV shows had music in them and some of them had music at the beginning and a different one at the end.

He had decided then that he was going to take all the music back and since then he had made it his solemn duty to collect as many songs as possible. At his last count he had almost collected one million songs from around the globe. Even if the Computer drives that he stored them in could not be taken from the world he bet his Dad could recreate some way to play them with a bit of appropriate knowledge. It would be justifiably important for morale and his father would no doubt enjoy listening to them also.

Still he kept reading the maths book and running through a few calculations in his head and on the page attempting to discern the particular way of computing the universe that these books proposed. It was not until the door swung open and the normally hyperactive sealed dragon entered the room that his attention wavered from the book. Issei looked relatively tired, as if he hadn't received any sleep last night, which would be foolish considering the upcoming confrontation. It was common knowledge to get a good night's sleep before a conflict.

"Morgan," he said a tinge too loudly. "Did last night really happen?" His words were apparently ill-chosen as it implied that they were in a relationship and Morgan could easily hear the whispered voices from the other people in the room. Morgan wished to correct that misunderstanding as soon as possible because he didn't want people thinking that Issei was his type.

"You did get brutally dumped," he said in a somewhat conciliatory tone. "Don't worry there are plenty more fish in the oceans."

"But the other stuff…" Issei started and Morgan realised that he had given him far too much credit. Issei was really stupid.

"If you want my advice then come to me after class, like we agreed yesterday," Morgan said putting plenty of emphasis on the agreement from yesterday. He then made a shooing motion with his hand while he picked up his book again and started pointedly reading it. Issei hesitated for a moment but eventually he did as he was told and took a seat.

Actually Morgan's reprimand may have done something good inadvertently as Issei spent the rest of the day in an almost timid quietness, unusual for him. Even when he was called upon to answer in class he only spoke what was necessary. It was nice. Of course it was likely that he was suffering from some internal crisis brought upon by a realisation that his world was not at all safe and that his doom might be imminent and unnoticed but it really did elevate Morgan's day to have a bit of extra quiet in the room. He might have to give him the 'talk' later.

Finally the day, filled with relatively unimportant information drew to a close and the people started to pack up and head towards there various after-school activities. Morgan stood up as well grasping his umbrella and tossing the remainder of his stationery into his bag before heading towards the door. He didn't even get half way to the door before a susurration broke out and Morgan looked towards the source of the whispers to see a familiar blonde boy.

"Hyodou, Carolinus," he said with that smile that apparently attracted a disproportionate amount of female attention. "Captain wants to see you?"

"Does the word subtlety mean nothing to you, devil?" Morgan said watching as the blonde man blanched at the mention of his race. The existence of these races was a clear secret and while he personally didn't care, these young devils would probably get in serious trouble if a cover-up was needed. His words were a bit of revenge for putting him on the spot in so public a manner. "Come on Issei," he said turning towards the brown haired boy. "Let us see how deep this badger hole goes."

He strode through the doorway past the now glaring blonde ignoring the whispers of a possible fall out between the Kiba and himself. There were a few discussions about who to side with which were ultimately foolish. If there was going to be a battle between himself and Kiba he would instantly win and none of the gossipers could do a thing to prevent it.

"That isn't something you should be speaking out loud," Kiba spoke as he caught up with Morgan and there was clear displeasure in his voice verging on a desire to perform physical violence. It seems there was a well of wrath underneath that calm exterior, the unhealthy kind; specifically the kind that gets you a talking to from an older member of the community and an offer to vent or spar it out. "Are you listening to me," he followed up.

"I have ears," Morgan said. "Although I think I liked you more when you didn't speak." Morgan was being a bit unreasonable and he knew it. The devil boy hadn't committed that great a faux paus, and most of his anger came from the fact that a non-human such as him was acting as if they were on friendly terms. While Morgan was not strong enough to defeat a Devil from his homeland it irked him immensely that he was not allowed to tear apart their stunted cousins. Intellectually he understood that the best path forward was to keep his dislike under control and find out as much information as possible and so he took a deep breath as he buried his discomfort deep down.

The three of them walked in silence from then onwards. Issei was quickly looking between the two of them but displaying no desire to join in either side. That was surprising as his hatred for the blonde boy had been well documented. Maybe he was finally learning to control his impulses; if this was the case then Morgan would be remiss in letting his own impulses run free. He took a deep breath and acknowledged the stress of his mission, his loneliness, his homesickness, his fear, his anger, his everyday discomforts before letting all of them go and focusing on the here and now.

Eventually they were led out of the main school building past hordes of whispering teenagers and to part of school grounds in which he had never travelled before; towards a building that was apparently an old schoolhouse in a style that humans of this world would have likely considered quaint. Still it was way too big for any one club to dominate and Morgan instantly came to the conclusion that there was some form of nepotism going on. The devils likely had some contacts in the board or else they were brainwashing the humans to rule over them. His fists clenched as he contemplated just giving into his impulses and starting a massacre; after all even if the people in this world were not his Humans they were still humans. It would only be good for them if he wiped out some of the competition.

He relaxed after he finished venting letting his emotions sink into a lull as he walked casually towards the door that was apparently the room in which they were to meet Gremory. His heart finally felt at peace and he was ready to do his best in order to bring back information of this ripe new world for the glory of Humanity. They were let in the room by the blonde devil that shot Morgan a warning look before gesturing towards one of the couches.

Morgan took the time to take note of the other few devils as he sat down on the couch

Title: Queen of Gremory

'Weak,' Morgan thought inwardly as he looked on with a glance. They were even weaker than the Sitri. Still he decided not to say anything and just relaxed deeper into the rather comfy couch. The Gremory wasn't here yet in what was transparently a clumsy power play to keep them waiting. The kind favoured by those that lacked confidence or manners.

"I'm sorry," the Himejima girl said. "Captain is currently in the shower. If you can just wait a bit I will make you some tea." She didn't even need to say that as the silhouette of the devil was obvious as well as the noise of the falling water. Apparently that was enough to enrapture Issei. The boy's lustful feelings were as per usual out of control.

"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting," the Gremory said as she eventually stepped from behind the shower, her hair still slightly wet and for some reason still dressed in the Kuoh school uniform. Surely the school uniform was a requirement to operate at school and should be removed for more appropriate clothes when arriving at home or having a discussion with potentially hostile entities. The uniform was rather thin, tore easy and didn't provide appropriate flexibility. He would rather fight naked then in that poor excuse for actual clothing.

"I glad we can talk under better circumstances than yesterday," the Gremory said looking between Morgan and Issei. "Have you run into any more of the fallen since last night?" She took a seat behind a desk.

"Uh, no, I haven't," Issei said almost embarrassed. "Can you tell me what Yuuma was and why everybody forgot her and why she tried to…" kill me. Those last words went unsaid and Morgan came to the sudden realisation that he had been treating the whole event a bit too lightly. Maybe to him it was just another day but to Issei who grew up in this lenient domain the whole event must have been traumatising.

"And do you have the same questions?" the Gremory tested him as he remained silent.

"She was a honey trap," Morgan said taking tea from the black-haired fallen angel-devil. "The reason they forgot about her was due to either them or the ones in front of us deciding to erase memories. As for why she wanted to kill you…" Morgan said pausing. "Isn't that the job of monsters, to prey on humans?" He gave a warm smile to the room in general but there was noticeable recoil as he said that. Apparently they didn't miss the implications that they too were monsters and they had to rebut the accusation and quickly also. Before it took root in Issei's mind.

"That's not entirely correct," the Gremory said somewhat diplomatically shooting Morgan a glare before she turned and looked at Issei. "There is a power sealed inside you that they were afraid of."

"Is that true?" Issei said looking at the members of the Gremory's group before focusing on Morgan. Morgan just gave him a nod and a thumb up in response. "Can you remove it?" Issei said after a bit getting looks of shock from all of the other devils. "I nearly died yesterday," he said quietly as if that explained everything and to be fair it did. Humans didn't come out of the womb ready to fight and certain treatments were used to fortify their heart for battle.

"I am afraid you cannot Issei," the devil girl said in a somewhat sympathetic tone. "The object within you is a Sacred Gear. They were created by the biblical god for human use. It is impossible to be removed."

"To protect them from other races such as fallen angels," Morgan spoke, immediately cluing him onto the current situation. "That couldn't have worked out to well." The most important thing when building an army is to have a solid foundation and good lines of communication. A system that sporadically spits out super powered individuals would be no match.

"It is true that supernatural factions tend to look upon those holding Sacred Gears as recruitment material," Rias admitted in response to Morgan's urging.

"So you are trying to recruit Issei into the devil faction," Morgan said trying to stop himself from gagging in disgust. He had heard rumours of Humans who had sided with the enemy due to money or even worse love but he had never seen them. It had always been a brother's friend's, uncles former spouse and none of the stories ever ended with the deserting party alive.

"We would also like to recruit you also Carolinus," the red-haired devil said as she looked at the Human. "I don't know which organisation you are with but managing to take down the fallen angel proves your strength. I will gladly offer you a spot in my peerage."

"Peerage?" Issei asked saving Morgan the trouble.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she said said blushing like a young human. "I almost forgot that you are not acquainted with the supernatural. A peerage is a group of devils under a king." She pulled out a red chess piece, a knight, and placed it on the table. "These are evil pieces. The king recruits members of the peerage using these pieces. A king can have up to fifteen servants although some powerful people would require more than one piece to resurrect."

'Absolutely revolting,' Morgan said so quietly it couldn't be heard. He had past the point of rage since the start of this conversation and now had entered that warm empty feeling where he couldn't be bothered to even react any more. Though based on the level difference it likely wouldn't be able to convert anybody over the age of seven/eight.

"So I would become a devil," Issei said before giving a quick look towards Morgan. "Doesn't that mean that I go to hell?"

"The Underworld is where we live, but it isn't that bad," Gremory said immediately. "Besides as a devil you can get your every wish granted. You can live a long life, have money or even build your own harem. If you are not Christian then you wouldn't be going to Heaven in the first place."

'She should have led with that,' Morgan thought. Did that mean that there were far more male devils than females or do the devils steal woman from other races or do only a certain amount of devils carry their genes over to the next generation. Either way the culture was quite different from that of his own. He turned to Issei who seemed ecstatic over the possibility of achieving his dream before turning to the red-headed devil.

"What is the relationship between natural-born devils and those resurrected by these chess pieces?" Morgan said quietly. From the looks that he got back from her it seemed that he had hit a sore point.

"There are some devils that look down on reincarnated devils," she said and Morgan's eyes easily identified how she was downplaying the severity of the discrimination. "Still all devils accept the need for the Evil Pieces to make up for our low population."

"Why do you have a low population?" Morgan asked focusing on that part immediately.

"It still hasn't recovered from the Great War and the civil war," Gremory said. "Uh, that was the war between devils, angels and fallen angels and the war between the old and new satans. I'm sorry we have a lot of history. I will be glad to tell you about it."

"I would be glad to hear of it," Morgan said stopping himself from smiling. Low birth rate was one of those things that could really cripple a species. It doesn't matter how strong a species is individually if the other species can outbreed them by a hundred times.

"So what do you think," the Gremory said. "The Gremory family is well known for treating their servants well. Will you join my peerage?"

"No," Morgan said as he took a sip of his tea, having ascertained that it didn't contain poison. He placed his umbrella upon his lap and leaned back in the chair as the redhead almost recoiled from his short answer. He was however quite interested in what Issei's choice was and he wondered about the process as well. He looked to the human boy and was slightly surprised to see him looking in turn at him.

"Can… can I think about it," Issei said with some noticeable reluctance as he turned back to face the redhead girl. The Gremory girl herself seemed like she was hit by the disappointment stick as she almost collapsed back into her chair causing the black haired angel devil to let out a little giggle.

"Can you tell me why," she said sitting up straight again and looking intently at Issei. "If you have any other wish then I assure you that I will try and grant it."

"No, it's not that," Issei said holding his hands up in an appeasing gesture. "I just only found about this last night. I'm still not used to any of it yet. I just need to think things over."

"Okay," the Gremory said. "I'll give you some time. And Morgan are you sure," she said turning to him with a look that sounded almost…pleading. "We can give you many books and even tutors to help you perfect your magic."

'A magician is a human that learns magic obviously," Morgan clarified to himself and she believes me to be part of one of these organisations. 'Is it common for humans with magic to have dealings with devils? That's disappointing.' Outwardly he only shook his head before taking one last cup of his tea.

"If that is all I will be heading out," he said. "Issei would you like me to walk you home. As far as I am aware you are still on the fallen angel's radar.

"Thank you Morgan," Issei said gratefully only to be stopped once more as he got up.

"Wait," the annoying red haired devil said as she leaned forward. "Don't you want to stay over for a bit more? We can talk and you can get used to the spirit of the Occult Research Club." As she spoke she posed slightly emphasising her assets causing Issei's eyes to lock onto her bosom.

"If we stay later then night will fall," Morgan said calmly. "It is generally much more dangerous to go out at night."

"Mpph," Gremory said pouting. "I can escort you home then. The fallen angels will not dare attack an heiress of the Gremory."

"Be that as it may I have to go home and do some homework," he lied. He would go home to write up a report. "Out of interest how easy would it be to leave a peerage once one has been joined."

"Once a devil reaches high class they can create their own peerage," Gremory said avoiding the question. "Okay," she admitted. "If a devil leaves the peerage they are declared a stray and have a bounty put on their head. But the Gremory family has never had a stray devil," she immediately defended herself.

"So," Morgan said as he stood up taking a firm grip upon his umbrella. "If somebody wishes to escape the peerage they are hunted down and from your tone, likely killed. How often does that happen again?"

"It's never happened in the Gremory family," Rias reiterated before she slouched slightly. "But it does happen with other peerages. My peerage has hunted down a few stray devils."

'Surprising that so many would choose almost certain death over staying with their peerage,' Morgan didn't say the words but anybody with half a brain would get the implication. It seemed the golden-hair was bristling at the slight like a well-trained attack dog and the black-hair had noticeably less humour. The cat was stoic as usual. "Coming Issei?" Morgan asked as he turned to leave and he noticed the other boy seemed to hesitate for a moment before he stood up.

"Before you go," the red-head said. "Is there some reason that you don't like us? I've been getting a hostile feeling from you ever since we met yesterday."

"I have a low opinion of non-humans at the moment and you devils haven't done anything in particular to endear yourselves to me," Morgan lied expertly. "Didn't you attack me yesterday?"

"Oh," the red-headed girl said as if taken aback. "You were also at fault for that," she huffed. "But I suppose I overreacted. Should we start off again on the right foot this time? My name is Rias Gremory."

"Morgan Carolinus," Morgan said plainly before turning to the only other human in the room.

"Issei Hyoudou," the Sacred Gear wielder said.

"Akeno Himejima," the mongrel angel said.

Kiba Yuuto," the blonde swordsmen said with a fake smile.

"Koneko Toujou," the cat said stoically once more.

"I hope we can start again afresh," Gremory said. "I would like to invite you to join the ORC in the meantime. Just so we can protect you from any more fallen angels."

"No," Morgan said once more equally quickly causing a slightly frustrated look to come over Gremory's face. "I have more work to do that doesn't involve becoming part of a demonic front."

"I wouldn't mind joining," Issei said and Morgan noticed with some distaste that his eyes were affixed on at least two of the devils chest area. He shook his head at the depressing thought of a person who couldn't keep his libido under control.

"Have you ever thought of seeing a prostitute Issei," Morgan said with some slight concern for the boy who seemed to lack self-control. His statement was apparently controversial as it caused the boy to whip his head towards Morgan with jaw wide open. The Gremory's response was no less dramatic as she flushed with wide open eyes as she stared towards Morgan. The blonde devil's expression seemed to have frozen on his face in an awkward position while the cat just regarded Morgan with her typical lack of expression. Only the mongrel angel seemed to be enjoying this as she giggled behind an upraised hand.

"What..?" Issei said dumbfounded and Morgan wondered if he hadn't spoken clearly or had made some faux-pas.

"I was under the impression that prostitution was legal in this country," Morgan said. "Was I wrong?"

"Well no," Issei admitted.

"My, my Carolinus," the mongrel angel said. "Have you ever been to a prostitute?"

"No," Morgan replied.

"Yeah, Morgan you can't just go and lose your virginity to a prostitute," Issei said surprisingly for the breast-obsessed maniac. "It has to be somebody that you love."

"I have already lost my virginity," Morgan said immediately trying to ward off any more questions about the topic. Just staying here was bringing down his mood currently. That didn't seem to do the trick as all eyes immediately focused on him.

"But…but you said you hadn't even gone on a date," Issei said stammering somewhat.

"A date isn't required for sex Issei," Morgan dismissed him.

"Oh my, did you pay some woman to use her body," the black-haired one said inquisitively causing Morgan to scoff at the thought.

"Hardly," he said. "I was just invited to an orgy. He knew as soon as he said it that the wrong thing had been said to end this monstrosity of a conversation quicker.

"Why would they do that," Gremory said her eyes wide and her face only a few shades paler then her hair.

"It was one of those celebrations before a wedding," Morgan quickly replied.

"Some guy had an orgy for his bachelor party," Issei said slumping backwards in the chair in disbelief.

"She wasn't some guy, she was my friend Issei," Morgan responded. "And yes she did."

"What did her husband say about that," the mongrel angel spoke up and for the first time Morgan noticed that her cheeks were rosy.

"I think her wife really approved of the catering," Morgan said leaving a shocked look upon the mongrels face. "Before you ask, I personally didn't find the catering wonderful. I think it lacked a bit of diversity in the spread."

That seemed to be thing that finally caused the room to be quiet and as Morgan stood up he noticed that Issei followed him, his face bearing some form of numb expressionlessness.

"Ah, would you like me to walk you back," the black-haired mongrel said walking forward with the offer and after a bit of thought Morgan accepted. While he didn't need the extra help he hoped that it would put Issei at ease and he had the feeling that he might have pushed the narrative a bit too much against the devils already. He didn't want to completely sour the relationship yet when it could still be used.

The walk went calmly enough aside from the annoying instance where both he and Issei were walking with the mongrel. Her popularity was apparently overwhelming and his own wasn't so middling that the onlookers believed that the two of them could have a relationship. Issei was the spanner in the works that apparently led to their confusion and Morgan almost smiled at the various rumours that were springing up; everything from him and Issei being involved in a high profile murder case to a love triangle to a polyamorous relationship. Morgan once more shook his head at the fixation on sex of these teenagers.

Upon arriving at Issei's house the human teenager invited them inside to have some tea but both he refused with the mongrel following a second later. Morgan waved as Issei went inside before he turned to the person next to him.

"Would you like me to walk you to your house," the girl asked with a smile.

"No," Morgan said turning around only to stop as a hand landed on his arm. He half-turned his head and fixed the black-haired mongrel with an inquiring glance.

"I can see you have some grudge against devils," she started fixing her eyes onto Morgan's. "I don't know the reason but I can assure you that our captain is not like the other devils. She is truly kind. If you join you won't regret it."

"We will see in future I suppose," Morgan said, promising nothing. "Thank you for the escort," he said giving a half wave before he picked a random direction and started walking. A minute later when he was certain that he had left the mongrel's range of detection upon which he turned into a nearby alley that led to a dead end.

"You can come out now," he said tapping his umbrella against the ground impatiently. A few seconds later his response was answered as a rugged man stepped out of the alley dressed in a trench coat, an ascot and a fedora. No, not a man; he was another one of those fallen angels. Morgan considered it a pity that such a well-dressed being just had to be a fallen angel. Suddenly his eyes darted to the right as a message appeared in front of him and he let out a grin before looking at the status of his target.

"Good Afternoon," the man said with a wary smile. "I just wanted to ask if you had run into a colleague of mine before."

"Does your companion also want to ask the same question," Morgan asked. "Yes I can see you up there," he continued as he looked into the sky. After a brief pause a stern looking blue-haired woman in a red shirt that barely fit and a matching scarlet skirt descended from the sky to land next to the man. Morgan idly looked at her status and was similarly unimpressed.

"If you don't answer our questions we will be forced to use more extreme methods," the woman said severely causing Morgan's to almost grin before he pointed at them.

"Giant wakes up after long time sleep," he started in an almost sing-song voice. "What does the giant do eat, eat, eat." His final eat landed on the rather buxom fallen angel and he gave the man an almost sympathetic look.

"What are you talking about," the female fallen angel started before the pair stepped back as Morgan's umbrella shifted into the form of his prized sword, Voidwind.

"Goodbye lucky winner," Morgan said as he slashed towards the woman at speeds far exceeding that the human's eye could pick up; this dimensions humans of course. A single spatial blade slipped from the edge of the sword and the woman was divided perfectly lengthwise. In the same motion Morgan stepped forward throwing a punch towards the male fallen angel.

The fallen angel resisted of course but Morgan swerved the punch at the last moment slipping past him and driving his knuckle into the spine of his opponent. With a single strangled gasp and a sickening crack the male fallen angel collapsed to the ground injured but alive. Morgan sighed in pleasure as he felt a familiar feeling flood his body; sort of like getting a really well done massage after a hard workout.

"Quests," Morgan said with satisfaction as he felt the XP flood into his body subtly making him better than he was before.

Author Note: Yeah, yeah I'll get back to my more popular story next. Hold your hats. I do hope that this chapter has demonstrated the personality of the MC a bit more. He's neither a hero nor a selfish asshole. Although I think I might have written him a bit more fascist then I originally intended. It works.*shrugs*.
