Full moon, thick clouds, orange and black decorations everywhere… It could only mean one thing: Halloween. Both the mayor and Isabelle were hosting a small party with the town to celebrate the holiday. The two were even all dressed up for the occasion, him a vampire and her a witch. They were enjoying themselves, chatting it up… and, of course, pigging out on candy corn.

"Mmm… I don't understand why everyone doesn't like it. I, for one, love this stuff~!" Isabelle cheerfully said as she popped a few more pieces into her mouth.

"No kidding. I can't go a single Halloween without it," the mayor added, dropping another handful in himself.

"I just love everything about Halloween! The frights, the chilly breeze, and especially all the candy~"

The mayor laughed. "You said it. And it seems everyone else is having a good time, too."

"Hehe, I'm glad!" Isabelle said with a smile. "I always get so excited this time of year, it makes me want to- *hic!*" Her cheeks turned a hint of red as she covered her mouth.

The mayor stiffened a giggle at that. "You okay, Issy?"

"Y-Yeah… Just got the *hi-uck!* hiccups is all…" She glanced down at the floor, clearly embarrassed.

He began laughing some more, finding it pretty cute. "Well, I didn't expect more so soon! This is too goo- *hic!*"

Somewhat confused, Isabelle looked back up and asked, "Was *hrk!* that you, Mayor?"

The mayor answered, "Y-Yeah… I *hic!* think it was… *hiccup!*" He suddenly covered his own mouth.

Isabelle giggled and hiccupped again. "Are you just doing that to tease me?"

"N-No, I'm *hi-uck!* not!" he defensively said, now pounding his chest a bit.

"*hiccup!* Y-You're not…?" Isabelle stammered, feeling bad for making that assumption.

The mayor got up from the table and sighed. "I-It's fine…" he told her. "Let's just see if we can find some *hic!* water."

"Good idea…" The two went over to the snack table and found, amongst the candy and other treats, a few clear bottles of water. They seemed fine enough, so Isabelle grabbed some for her and the mayor. She murmured, "Oh, thank goodness… Hopefully these *hic!* work…"

"No kidding…" The mayor removed the cap of his bottle and started chugging the thing down. He was pretty thirsty after all that candy, anyway.

"H-Hey, slow down. You wanna *hic!* cure the hiccups, right?" Isabelle teased.

"Yeah, but I heard if you drink these fast enough, that can help," the mayor explained right after finishing his off. He grabbed his gut just to make sure.

Isabelle shrugged and removed the cap from hers. "I heard the opposite, but *hrk!* you do you…" She proceeded to sip hers down a bit slower.

After a few seconds, the mayor remarked, "I think they're gone… I haven't- *UUUURRP!*" He covered his mouth, blushing some, before he suddenly knelt over as well.

"*hic!* Are you okay, Mayor?" Isabelle asked, kneeling down beside him.

"Y-Yeah, I… *hiccup!* just got some… stomach pain," he slowly said, still clutching his stomach as it sloshed and gurgled loudly.

Isabelle took a closer look at the bottles that they grabbed. "…Uh-oh. I don't *hic!* think this is water…"

"W-What do you *hic!* mean?" the mayor asked. He then held his hand over his mouth to cover another belch.

"You mixed up the *hi-uck!* water with the seltzer," she told him. "Again."

"W-What?!"

With a sigh, Isabelle helped the mayor back to his feet and rubbed his belly to ease it. "This isn't gonna help cure our hiccups…"

"T-Thanks…" He covered his mouth again to prevent another burp before saying, "Well, we're at a Halloween party. Someone's got to help scare these out of *hrk!* us…"

"Right. There's oppor-*hic!*-tunity around every corner," Isabelle reasoned.

"Let's just stay close for now." The two wandered around the party, wary of anyone or anything that could pop out and scare them.
