An encounter with the ideal wife...

(-)

Out of all the possibilities for how Mitsuri Kanroji expected her day to play out, the current circumstances were so far beyond anything she could fathom that such an outcome wasn't even within the same realm of existence. With her being a Pillar she was well aware of the potential for having to deal with a demon or two before the days end, but nothing could have prepared her for the challenge she currently faced. To describe the individual standing before her as a demon would be an understatement. It was the same as declaring that the sun was 'kinda hot'. No, this demon was leagues above her in terms of power and capabilities. An insurmountable wall that towered over Mitsuri and dared her to make an attempt at climbing it. Yet the Pillar knew that she couldn't afford to waver for even a moment, as such a sign of weakness would be her absolute undoing. No matter the odds stacked against her, regardless of how outclassed she may be, and completely ignoring the sense of hopelessness that was whispering at the back of her mind, she had to overcome this obstacle and emerge victorious.

Maintaining her posture, she silently waited to see what the demons next move would be.

"Hmm... Angle your back another five degrees up, curl your left hand fingers in by another centimetre, and puff your cheeks out a bit."

Mitsuri adjusted herself as instructed and silently prayed for the demons approval. "Like this?"

The demon nodded in satisfaction. "Now, once more from the top!"

"Welcome home dear~! After such a long day of work, would you like some dinner, a bath, or maybe you would like me~?" she recited perfectly with a demure smile.

The demon shook her head slightly before chiding the young woman. "You have the intention down pat, but you are missing the subtle inflections." she explained before striking a similar pose. "Watch."

"Welcome home dear~! After such a long day of work, would you like some dinner, a bath, or maybe... You~. Would~. Like~. Me~?"

"You make it look so easy Tamamo-sensei." Mitsuri responded, feeling a bit down about her failure.

Skipping over, the demon pat Mitsuri on the head. "Don't feel so bad about it. I've had loads more time to perfect this technique than you had. And remember, you can call me Tamamo-chan."

Yes, flying in the face of logic -or rather speeding past it at twice the velocity of light while flipping it off- Mitsuri wound up encountering the notorious demon fox herself, Tamamo-no-Mae. Even among demons she was considered to be something of a monster who could easily stand on equal footing with one such as Muzan (or perhaps even above him, as sunlight was harmless to her). Yet how the demon fox was able to make an appearance during the current time period was beyond comprehension, as the legend goes that she was sealed away by the onmyoji Abe-no-Seimei and eventually withered and died. The only thing more illogical about it all was that Mitsuri somehow wound up making friends with said demon.

When they first encountered one another Mitsuri could tell at a glance that she was a demon, and a powerful one at that. The lack of a number printed on her eyes meant that she wasn't one of the Twelve Demon Moons, but Mitsuri never would have guessed the true identity of the woman. Naturally the Pillar's first reaction upon confronting Tamamo was to prepare for battle, however such a thing never came to pass. Tamamo was quick to deny any chance of combat between the two of them and endeared herself to Mitsuri as a friend, displaying interest in having found someone who -in her words- held a Wife Power Level that was over 9000 (whatever that meant). And although she was confused by what Tamamo was trying to get at, Mitsuri would be lying if she said she was bothered by how things inevitably turned out.

After the initial tension of them meeting for the first time died down, Tamamo expressed her desire to take Mitsuri under her wing and train her to be an ideal wife who would make her future husband the happiest man alive. Which eventually led to their current circumstances, what with having Tamamo as a travelling companion while Mitsuri continued to fulfill her duties as a Pillar.

Mitsuri nodded her head and clenched her fists in determination. "Right! Let me try again!"

Tamamo smiled and pointed at the demon slayer. "There you go! A wife's most important trait is that she must never give up, never give in, and never stop trying! For even if you fail, it is your intentions and feelings that matter the most! Even if the wife burns the dinner, the husband will still find it more enjoyable than dining at a five star restaurant! If the bath water gets cold, then the wife will join her husband to make it warmer! Even if the husband comes home completely haggard and exhausted from work, seeing his loving wife waiting for him with open arms will give him the energy boost he needs to carry her to the bedroom and make her a mother!"

A fire ignited in Tamamo's eyes as she raised her fist towards the sky. "An amazing husband is only as great as his amazing wife!"

A similar fire erupted in Mitsuri's own eyes as her fist joined with Tamamo's. "And an amazing wife is nothing without her amazing husband!"

"WIFE POWER!"
