"So, Brady, this is the infamous Nico," Nyla said, feigning slight awe at the Latino before her. He was about twice as tall and twice as big as she was, along with Hailey, Vanessa, and Lucy. The imperceptible advantage Angela and Kim had were they were taller than the other girls at 5'6. But still, Nico easily towered over all of them, making his presence even eerier than they expected.

"Infamous? Oh no chica, I can assure you, my reputation precedes me," Nico answered smoothly, a smug look on his face, though his eyes were hidden by dark shades. Nyla fought an eye roll, instead playing her role with a hair flip instead, as if she was thoroughly convinced of the guy's charm. As if.

"So, Nico, what do you have for these fine ladies tonight?" Brady asked his boss, eyeing the man as he nodded at his other members to grab some more product.

"Finest crack in the business, amigo," Nico announced, looking at Brady before doling out a line for himself to take. The rest of his crew took a hit off it too, after which he looked towards the ladies.

"Any takers?"

"Not tonight," Angela said, deciding to use her Spanish to her advantage. "Lo siento, Papi, but we're just the runners, our buyers are the ones looking to score big time, tu sabes?" She batted her eyelashes in his direction to sell the lie, hoping that'd be enough.

It took the heat off for now, until it was time for the actual exchange. Kim and Vanessa doled out the cash from their clutches, gathering the rest from the girls' bags. "100K for 10, right?" Lucy asked, looking at Nyla, who looked to Brady for confirmation.

"Si, senorita," Nico answered for them. "But, I ain't really feelin' that vibe tonight."

"Sorry, what?" Lucy asked, genuinely confused. It worked in her favor given her meeker voice, but she didn't want to say much else. She really didn't know what in the world was happening now.

"Ay, papi, cual es el problema?" Angela asked, but Nico simply shushed her with a finger to his own lips, and Angela caught Kim's eyes, who looked equally as baffled by the behavior.

"Hey, you guys wanna do the deal, right? Well, I want something else to take the edge off." Nico made his way towards Hailey, who was still trying to understand where the hell this all went sideways. Lucy tapped her elbow, mouthing the safe word the women had established earlier. Honey.

Hailey shook her head no, as she figured she could sweet talk her way out of whatever idea this idiot had in mind. She turned back to find Nico standing in front of her, sizing her up. "How 'bout you? You haven't said much chica, what's goin' on in that pretty little head of yours, huh?"

His hand attempted to brush her cheek, but Hailey sidestepped him gracefully. "You wanna know what's on my mind, chico? I wanna party, like actually party, you know what I mean?" Hailey sauntered over towards the back corner of the booths they were in, as she saw another doorway, which either led to an exit or a separate room. She figured if she could get everyone moving in the same direction, it'd be easier to take Nico down, than to have him sequestering her all to himself.

She knew he was ogling her as she swayed around, mimicking those dance moves she'd seen over a thousand times in clubs. She subtly cocked her head at Vanessa, who chimed in with, "Yeah, boys, anyone got the music in here? Let's get this thing started!"

Angela and Kim tried to rev up the rest of the gang, and when one of the minions did turn on some tunes, people actually began to move around a bit. Lucy was so not a dancer, by any means, so she awkwardly tried to keep up with the rest of the girls, who were doing pretty simple movements themselves.

Out of her peripherals though, she saw movement that looked out of place. She saw a swish of blonde hair, and instantly recognized that Nico was still trying to get Hailey alone with him. His large figure was all over the petite blonde, concept of personal space, be damned. Acting on instinct, Lucy ran over to them. "Hey man, come on, let's get back out here and party. Candi, you g––"

That was all she got out before an elbow met her face, knocking her off balance. She felt her eyes water at the blow to the center of her face, before she realized her nose was in fact bleeding. She took a couple stumbles back towards the girls, where she was met with wide eyes from Angela and Nyla.

"No, no, I'm good. But I don't think Candi is. I know it's early, but I saw Nico walk off with her towards the back room…." She looked to her superiors, and the other CPD detectives, as it wasn't her rightful place to make the call. But, Vanessa sure as hell did. "Okay honey, we got you."

As soon as the safe word rang out into their ears, the rest of the group sprang into action.

"Go, go!" Voight pushed, as he and Grey stormed the front along with Kevin and Jackson. Adam and John were taking off upstairs, Jay and Tim practically tripping over themselves to catch up with the other two.

"LAPD! Hands up, now!"

"Chicago PD! Nobody move!"

Guns were drawn and handcuffs were coming out, after of course every partner checked in with their other half. Well, Nolan and West tried to, but Angela and Nyla insisted they were fine and to "quit fussing."

Tim was busy searching for Lucy in the crowd of people, as he hated that she took a hit, at least, he heard her face take a swing from Nico.

"Aw, shit. Boot," He said softly, grabbing a napkin from the nearest bar top and handing it to her.

"I'm good, I'm good. Go help Jay get Hailey, Tim. Hailey!" She said, her voice muffled and nasally from the tissue.

Tim's eyes circled the room again, until he did spy Jay running towards the back. He joined him as they continued their way through.

"Hailey? Hailey, call out!" Jay yelled as he made it to the back door, which had been sealed shut. A roundhouse kick later, and down it went, the duo entering swiftly.

What they saw was thankfully not as bad as they had presumed it to be, as Hailey was mid-kick into Nico's groin to topple him over.

She sighed, successfully pushing him to the ground with both hands. She brushed her hair out of her face, looking to the guys. "I'm good, I'm good."

"Nice–" Tim was about ready to say work, but out of the corner of his eye, he saw Jay running towards Nico. Oh hell, he thought.

"Jay! Hey, Jay!" Hailey yelled at her partner as he delivered kick after kick to Suave's body. "He's done, he's done. I'm okay!" She grabbed for his arm, but it took both her and Tim to pull Jay away from the criminal.

"Sorry. I'm sorry, I'm cool," he said breathlessly, holding his hands up, as that was all he could do when Hailey had one elbow, and Tim held back his other arm.

Bradford looked at Upton, who nodded that they could let him go. Jay was still fuming, so Tim assumed that he should go cuff Nico. While he did that, he read the suspect his rights as he walked him out.

"…And if you give up that right, I'd be more than happy to have him kick your teeth in again," he whispered harshly.

"Bitches, all of 'em," Nico spat, which made Tim be sure to knock his head against the wall as he came to the doorway.

"Yeah, I'd shut up now if I were you," Tim said through gritted teeth. He handed him off to Grey, as he wanted to make sure Lucy was okay, as that was who he was thinking about when he let Nico's head go one round with the cement club wall.

Between the sergeants, Nolan, West, Lopez, and Harper, they were able to round up the whole crew on drug possession and distribution. They were being hauled away as Vanessa and Kevin motioned for Hailey and Jay to come along.

"Yeah, right behind you guys," Hailey said, looking right by her side, which Jay ceased to leave. "Hey, gimme a sec?" She asked him, and he nodded. She walked over to where Lucy was.

"Hey," she said awkwardly, unsure if she was interrupting something between her and her partner.

"I'll give you a minute," Tim said, shockingly taking the implied hint.

"Thanks Tim," Lucy said, tossing the napkin in the garbage, as the bleeding had finally subsided. She turned back to Hailey. "What's up?"

"I just wanted to thank you for having my back tonight. My uh, stubbornness can sometimes get the better of me, but you didn't waver from your original instinct. That's damn good police work, Officer Chen."

Lucy smiled, glancing down for a second. "Oh, no, I mean…I know it wasn't my place to make the call, I just got concerned and–"

"–And you did the right thing, Lucy. Promise." Hailey reassured, seeing the younger officer's face soften with relief.

"Thanks Hailey," Lucy replied. "Not like you really needed the help though, I heard a few kicks back there…"

Hailey didn't know what the proper thing to emote was, nor the proper thing to say. "Oh no, I mean, yeah, I held my own, but uh, if you heard anything, that was probably Jay. He went off on Suave back there. Took both me and Bradford to pull him back." Now it was Hailey who glanced downward, a little unsure of what else to say.

Good thing to Lucy, she said enough.

Across the way, their two counterparts were shaking hands and further burning those idiotic bridges they had up earlier.

"Thanks man," Jay said, "For earlier, I mean. I usually don't get that bad. I guess I just saw red."

"No, I get it. Believe me, I do…" Tim couldn't help but look back over to Lucy again, who was smiling at something Hailey had said. He'd been doing that a lot lately: catching quick glimpses of her just to make sure all of her was still there: the Lucy Chen he knew since day 1. He knew she'd gotten a thicker skin over the almost two years he'd known her, and part of that was due to the whole Caleb incident. Brief images flashed in Tim's mind, and he quickly pushed them away.

Now was not the time. But, ever the observer he was, Jay could notice the gravity Bradford's words held. He made a mental note to ask him about it later, whenever that would be. Turned out, he got the chance sooner than he thought, when Hailey announced that she would be riding back to the district with Lucy.

Unlike earlier in the evening, Jay was not actually dreading the ride back with Tim. He had a feeling they had more in common than either would actually admit.

"Soooo," Lucy attempted to start up a dialogue. Hailey hummed her response from the driver's seat. "Is Jay always like that?"

"Like what?" Hailey asked as she switched lanes.

"Uh, defending your honor and all that," Lucy said, a little disbelieved.

"Well, it's usually not me that's been the one in trouble," Hailey admitted. She knew that would pique Lucy's interest, so she elaborated. "Jay's been shot twice since I've known him, and both times I was madder than ever. Course, I was more worried than anything, that he wouldn't make it, or that he'd– I dunno, come out changed or different somehow. In some ways, he has, but in others, not so much."

Lucy could relate to that. "Y'know, my first day, err, well, my second day as a rookie, but my first day out in the field…Tim was shot while we were engaging with a suspect. I had to drag him from behind our car to where the ambulance could meet us a safe distance away. I'd never been angrier, or scared – for him, anyway – than I was in that moment. Course, I knew he'd be back to the same old Bradford when John asked if he was alright, and Tim's sardonic response was, "No! I've been shot!" I swear, he's always doing shit like that," Lucy leveled, shaking her head.

"Wow, who would've thought we'd both get stuck with sarcastic hardasses for partners, huh?" Hailey pursed her lips as she made a turn, chuckling a little when she saw Lucy immediately agree.

"Yeah, never thought I'd meet another woman that could actually sass her partner back and get away with it," Lucy joked.

While the two ladies laughed it up, the objects of their conversation were discussing similar things.

"About earlier," Jay began, casting a quick glance at Tim as he made his way down the road.

"Oh no, no need to explain it, Halstead. Like I said before, I get it. I do," Tim echoed his earlier statement.

Jay nodded, treading carefully with his next words. "Care to elaborate on that understanding there, Bradford?" He didn't see Tim shift in his seat, or fidget with his hands while he considered how to answer.

"Eh," Tim paused briefly, "I may or may not have threatened to pull someone inside out if they didn't give me the name of who was running contraband in the women's prison in California. Like bashed his head on the steering wheel of his SUV and everything. Poor West was probably shaking in his boots that day…" he tried to joke, not knowing he'd accidentally opened the door for Jay to ask the next obvious question.

"No Lucy that day?"

"Um, no. She was actually the reason why I was so desperate to get that information. She was in trouble, and I felt responsible."

"Why's that? If you don't mind me asking, that is…" Jay answered cautiously.

"I, err, well she was kidnapped by a protégé of a serial killer. Caleb Wright, I don't know if you've heard of that whole ordeal or not. But anyhow, Chen was taken by that psychopathic man, and if I hadn't found her when I did, she would've died in that barrel." Tim glanced at Jay, whose jaw clenched as he processed the words that were said.

"Shit. Tim, that's heavy stuff, man. I'm so sorry. I'm glad you found her, and that you guys are good now. I'm sure she doesn't blame you for what happened. She..I mean, you found her, you know? I'm sure that's all she needed."

Tim nodded from the passenger seat. "No, I know. You're right. She told me a little while back that she didn't blame me for what happened, I just…we didn't know that he was a killer. And I suggested she go out, get a drink, take the night off from the ridiculously difficult day we had, and so, she called him up. And, it all went to hell from there, I suppose. Course, like she said to me, it wasn't my fault, and it wasn't hers either." He sighed as Jay pulled to a stop light. "Sorry, Jay. Didn't mean to unload all that baggage on you. It's just been a while since I talked about that time. I was really, really worried about Lucy."

Jay nodded as he pressed the gas pedal again. "I get it, man. I was worried about Hailey today, but god, nowhere near what you must've been feeling about Lucy during that time. For us, Hailey and I, I mean, it's usually reversed. She's usually trying to pull me back," he scoffed, shaking his head at his own stupidity. "Y'know I've been injured on this job more times than I can count, but nothing freaked me out more than seeing her as the last person before I closed my eyes after being shot last year. And thankfully, she was the first person I saw when I woke up in the hospital, but according to my brother, Will – he's a doctor – they weren't sure I was gonna make it. I'm sure Hailey was feeling a bit like you were with Lucy. Not sure, guilty, confused, overwhelmed, and all that."

"Wow," Tim said, taking in the admission from Jay. "Jesus, who would've thought we'd have such similar situations. Crazy how this is working out, isn't it?"

Jay nodded, turning one more corner towards the district. "Yeah, it is…" He was still thinking back to that time in the hospital. The look on Hailey's face…not by his bedside, but the one she gave him as he was getting ready to leave.

I wanted to tell you something…

And since Jay was still sitting here without any idea of what she was really going to say, though he had a dream scenario, he figured he should spare Tim the same heartache. He could tell plain as day, how much he cared for Lucy.

"Look man, don't uh, don't make the same mistakes I did. I put Hailey through hell, and I don't know why she still puts up with me sometimes. But, you and Lucy? If you and Lucy can make it through all that, you two should really be able to handle your feelings."

Tim felt the truck jerk forward slightly as Jay pulled into a parking place. "Sorry, what?"

Jay turned to fully face Tim, as best he could from the driver's seat anyhow. "Look, man. I know it's not my place, but from what you've told me, you really care for her. And she looks at you like you're the best thing since sliced bread," he joked, feeling slightly better at seeing the corners of Bradford's mouth turn up. "So, don't wait. Don't wait to tell her how you feel." He was on such a roll, he didn't even realize the last sentence he let slip out was as much an anecdote as an admission. "Maybe if I had done that last year, then Hailey and I wouldn't be stuck in this limbo. So, don't make that mistake. Tell her, don't wait. Just tell her."

Tim's brows went from arching to furrowing, as he really tried to soak in what Jay was saying. He made it seem so easy, and honestly, maybe it was. Lucy was pretty much the only rookie he'd been vulnerable with, so what's one more leap of faith?

After their mini bout of laughter had passed, Lucy treading the waters again. "So, you and Halstead, you two really get each other, don't you?"

"Yeah," Hailey said as she coasted to a stop for a red light. "We're pretty much best friends now. Why?"

"It's never been more than that?" Lucy asked curiously. She stifled a giggle when Hailey rolled her eyes. She honestly wasn't surprised by that reaction.

"I don't know what you mean, Officer Chen," Hailey answered coyly. That made Lucy laugh for sure.

"Yeah, right," Lucy quipped as they moved forward again. "And I'm gonna be a police chief by 30! Come on, Upton, it's so obvious, it kills me!"

Hailey's mouth gaped slightly, as the only other person to ever call her out on it was Vanessa – and she'd known her for months, not a day! Damn, were she and Jay really that predictable?

"I–" she stammered, for once unsure of a witty comeback. "Lucy, listen, it's not as easy as you're making it sound. We're partners. Sure, are we closer than most? Yeah, of course. We're good together–"

"Ever consider that may work outside of the job too?" Lucy asked, quirking her brow as Hailey managed to pull into a parking space.

Pursing her lips, Hailey replied with, "Yeah, I could probably ask the same thing about you and Tim!"

"Oh no, you're not getting out of this one, Upton!" Lucy said, tapping Hailey's arm gently. "Seriously though, the way you guys are with each other. That's pretty freaking amazing. Not to mention one of a kind. That kind of bond…you don't see that every day. And since I'm betting he cares just as much about you as you do about him, then I think it's worth taking that risk."

"What do you mean?" Hailey quietly wondered, still playing a little bit dumb.

"I just mean…your guys' partnership can survive that. You know, if you guys were to admit to whatever deeper connection is obviously there between the two of you."

Hailey nodded, inhaling slightly as she contemplated Lucy's words. The one thought she could pick out of the million that were running through her mind at that moment? She needed a drink. Badly.

So, once their debriefs were done, and their sergeants dismissed them, off Hailey went – with Lucy in tow, of course – to Molly's Bar. Kim and Adam were already there with Vanessa and Kevin, doing a round of shots. She saw Angela and Jackson mosey in the front door just as she pulled into a parking space along the side street.

"Aw, cool!" Lucy exclaimed as she all but jumped out of Hailey's car. "So this is where you guys cut loose after shift?"

"Mhmm," Hailey nodded, zipping up her leather jacket. She shot a quick text to Jay: You coming to Molly's? She knew they needed to talk, and she'd rather do it with a little liquid courage in her system than not.

Her phone buzzed as she entered the bar with Chen. Yeah, on my way. Bradford couldn't find his jacket. Turned out he left it in the truck. Be there in a minute.

Hailey snickered at the eye roll emoji he put after the mention of Tim. Those two. Course, she was shocked to hear – or, so she assumed – that Tim was coming to Molly's…and Jay was the one driving him.

She pocketed her phone as a shot was passed in front of her. "Cheers, Hailey," Lucy said, downing the tequila impressively for how tiny she was. She grinned at the brunette, and downed her own shot as well. The burn felt slightly good, as it gave her a break from her cyclical thoughts about Jay.

Maybe Lucy's right. She thought as she ordered another round for everyone. She just hoped Jay would get here soon so she could find out.

Once Jay finally found a place to park his Sierra, he and Tim joined the rest of the compiled group for a round of drinks. The two men smirked at each other when they were the only ones to order beer as opposed to tequila. They cheersed their bottles together, drinking the beverage faster than usual, as both had a lot to drown out.

One turned into two, before they were both greeted by their partners. "Hey, can we talk?" Hailey asked him, and Jay nodded, but not before giving Tim a look that said just go for it.

He saw Tim guide Lucy over to the opposite side of the bar, while he and Hailey found an unoccupied high-top table.

"What's on your mind, Hails?" He asked.

"I've been thinking a lot over these last 24 hours, about us," she felt her cheeks heat up, so she tacked on. "I mean, about our partnership."

She all but melted at the sound of Jay's soft, "Okay," the same way he said it to her in the hospital. Well, here's hoping for a different outcome, Hailey thought as she persuaded herself to continue.

"And I realized, err, well, actually, it was Lucy who helped snap some sense into me," she got a little off track, before guiding herself back. "And she helped me remember why we work so well. And why I think we could work even better…if I were to tell you what I should've told you all those weeks ago in the hospital."

Jay swallowed, the sound loud in his ears. Maybe she would actually say what he was hoping to hear. "Which was?" He dared to ask.

"I feel like we have something here," she was searching his face, trying to gauge his reaction. "And I know you might think it's just as partners, which is fine if you do; but you once said we'd be good, and we're always gonna be good. So, I feel like I owe it to myself to tell you the truth…that I've fallen for you as more than a partner. What I wanted to tell you that day in the hospital? I'm in love with you, Jay."

She watched something spark in his eyes, but she couldn't tell if it was mutual feelings, or if it was just shock from her confession. She chewed on her bottom lip, casting her glance to the side once as he was working it over in his head.

"Hailey," and when he said it so sweetly, she swore she'd always love to hear it said just like that forever and ever. He took her hand across the small table, grasping it lightly. "I was hoping you'd say that, because I love you too."

Hailey didn't think her smile could get any bigger, but she was wrong as she leaned in to kiss Jay. Their lips met, and it felt good, it felt right, it felt like coming home.

When they pulled back and hopped down to go to a booth to be closer to each other, Hailey found herself feeling the happiest she'd felt in a while. She reminded herself to thank Lucy for that little push. Speaking of Lucy, she couldn't help but notice that she and Bradford still hadn't come back yet from their talk.

Jay pulled Hailey into him, and she leaned her head on his shoulder, feeling comfortable and at peace. He loved her, and she loved him back. He just hoped his advice to Tim was good enough too.

On the other side of Molly's, sat Tim and Lucy. Lucy didn't quite know what they were gonna say, but judging by Tim's expression, it was a bit more serious, like one of their rare talks in the shop during the late shift.

"Listen boot," Tim began automatically, causing Lucy's eyes to narrow at him. Really, Tim? Now for the nickname of all times? "Sorry, Lucy," he began again, and she softened her hard look.

"I know we're not how we were," and he smirked as she crinkled her brows. "As a rookie and TO, I mean. And that's been good for us, I think. But, I know that there's more to it than that. I know that now, at least I finally admitted it to myself now because Jay kinda pulled it from me accidentally."

"What do you mean, Tim?"

"Way back when with Caleb. And how distraught over it I was–" he was cut off as Lucy spoke.

"–I know you were beating yourself up about it, but like I said before, it wasn't your fault, it wasn't mine–"

"No," he said softly, instinctively reaching for her arm. "I mean yes, that's true, but that's not why I was desperate to find you that day. Yes, I felt a responsibility, but I also felt something more than that. And I think I know now what that is. I don't work without you, so almost losing you, that can't…I can't handle that again."

"Oh, Tim…" Lucy reached for him this time. "I couldn't have gotten where I am without you. We just click, we've always been in sync. And I can't be without that, either. But I think, I don't know…is it maybe more than that?"

Tim attempted to open his mouth to speak, but Lucy blew right past it, babbling along. "But I know if you don't think it can work out like that, that's okay, I'll understand. I just don't want it to make things awkward, and I know we're still technically partners and–"

He finally managed to shut her up, albeit with a kiss, not that Lucy minded much. When they finally did pull back a bit, Lucy still couldn't believe it happened. This time, she was the one left speechless.

"Does that answer your question, boot?" He smirked, in that very Tim Bradford way. The way she'd roll her eyes at, and probably still would at times, but, at least now she could think of a more fun way to tame it.

"Sure does, sir," she sassed, bravely leaning in for a second kiss.

They only broke apart when they were called to by…yep, they should've known…Jay and Hailey. "C'mon you two! You're missing the fun!"

Tim and Lucy glanced at each other, before bounding over to join the rest of their oddball bunch. Who knew a mix of Chicago and LAPD would get along so well.

Hailey pulled Lucy away quickly, whispering her thanks, as they shared a giddy smile. Tim gave Jay one of those "thanks bro" nods, which he reciprocated. Seemed as though both pairs uncovered something more on this whirlwind ride than they ever thought they could. At least the end result was amazing, right?

A/N: And that concludes the end of this crossover fanfic! :) Hope you all enjoyed this, I was honestly shocked by how many favorites and follows it received, since I know The Rookie fandom is nowhere near as major as the Chicago PD one. Both shows are just too good not to attempt to make my crossover dreams a reality, you know what I mean? Glad you guys liked it; I sure had fun writing it! Cheers to 3 more years of One Chicago on NBC, and for The Rookie's season 3 pickup! Upstead and Chenford at the same time?! My shipper heart is very excited about the possibility...
