Chapter 1 - The End of Something is the Start of Everything.

Disclaimer: I do not own Overlord!

(I didn't know if the dragon emperor's name is known or not, so I just went with my own name.)

It was the year 2138 when the DMMO-RPG Yggdrasil was about to be shut down. Since its launch back in 2126, twelve years have passed, making it to a game that actually reached a relatively long time. Surely there had been games that had been holding out much longer, but in the end nothing can last forever. What had made this game so popular were the elements of its gameplay that had made people play it.

The game consisted of nine homeworlds, that were simply called the nine realms of Yggdrasil. As the namesake already suggests, the game was mostly based on Norse mythology, however it still had various elements from other mythologies and legends from all around the world.

The players were given an enormous amount of ''player freedom'', as they were given insane amount of choices and paths for creating characters as well as exploring the nine worlds, and that was the main reason why players could not play the same game as the others, because, in the end, it greatly differed between each player as they each had a different adventure.

Players of Yggdrasil could choose from over two hundred different racial classes to play as, build their characters with whichever of the over two thousand job classes they desired until reaching the highest allowed limit of 100, and either explore or conquer the worlds of Yggdrasil in the process.

Something that was essentially for this game was the almost unlimited customization ability through the creator's tools that could be bought by Yggdrasil in game currency. From weapon and armor design to personal character customization, and even personal NPCs and base customizations were possible, making the only limitation of this feature the imagination of the players.

Still, even with those amazing game features, this game couldn't last forever. Expensive server maintaining, decreasing income and other such issues led ultimately to the downfall of the once so glorious game.

–And the end of today shall signal the end of everything.

On the world known as Helheim, that was filled with all kinds of deadly jungles and swamps, could be found a certain tomb that, judging from the entrance's appearance, could be seen as harmless dungeon, especially for some of Yggdrasil's weakest level 100 players, though in fact it was not.

This particular dungeon was hailed as the most legendary and the most heavily guarded 10-floor dungeon that was filled to the brim with legions of high-level monsters such as the undead, demons, and other, more dangerous creatures that one would only discover in either horror stories or the deepest pits of one's nightmares.

This, calm on the outside yet monstrous on the inside, dungeon was known as The Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick, that belonged to the guild known as Ainz Ooal Gown.

A dungeon created and governed by mere 41 people that were each extremely dangerous each in their own right. One of these 41 people was the guild master of Ainz Ooal Gown – Momonga, an undead creature of the highest order, an Overlord.

Though out of all the 41 members Momonga as a necromancer would be seen as a fairly weak character, he was perhaps the most dangerous member of the entire Ainz Ooal Gown.

With his ability to quickly adapt to nearly any kind of dangerous situation, as well as the enormous knowledge of spells, Momonga has earn his title as the Supreme Overlord of the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick.

Currently Momonga could be found within the heart of the Great Tomb of Nazarick – the Throne room, which could be located on the 10th floor of the Great Tomb.

The throne room was not just some large hall that one would find in some medieval castle, but instead the throne room of Nazarick could be described as nothing less than the very epitome of the word ''throne room''.

It was an enormous hall that could easily fit a thousand people within it, or, perhaps even more. It was a wide room with predominantly white colored high ceiling and walls, with golden decorations as highlights.

The numerous chandeliers which hung from the ceiling were made of precious stones of all colors of the rainbow, and they emitted a fantastic, dreamlike radiance.

Numerous flags emblazoned with different symbols hung from flagpoles sunk into the walls. A total of forty-one of these flags swayed gently in the wind, from the ceiling to the floor.

In the center of this room that was tinted gold and silver, there was a flight of stairs about ten steps high. Atop these stairs was a gigantic throne, carved out of a single piece of crystal. Whose back was high enough to touch the ceiling above it. A huge red banner hung down behind it, proudly displaying the symbol of the guild.

And even though for some it might seem as if no being alive could be deserving of the honor of being seated upon this magnificent throne of obsidian radiance, with the only exception of God himself, however, the being that was currently seated upon the throne resembled nothing less than a god.

The being wore a jet-black academic gown with violet and golden edges, around its neck hung a golden neckless that fit rather well with the black robes on its body. But the head that should have been above the golden neckless was but a bare skull with two red dots glowing brightly within the skull's two empty eye sockets.

Within the revealed, skeletal chest could be seen a floating red orb that radiated a strong feeling of dread, and each of the being's skeletal fingers were adorned with a beautiful ring of excellent make.

In its left skeletal hand, it held a golden staff that looked like seven serpents surrounding it with a different colored gem within each of the snake mouths. From time to time the faces of dread and misery escaped the tip of the golden staff.

This being of darkness was, in fact, the guild master of Ainz Ooal Gown in his fullest glory – Momonga.

Momonga lazily cast his gaze towards the holographic clock that only he could see and soon sighed with a tired tone.

The clock said 23:57:56

Once it reaches 00:00:00, the game shall reach its conclusion, and forcefully log him out from the server.

''...Relics of the past, huh.''

Muttered Momonga in a quiet voice before his tired gaze caught the golden staff in his skeleton hand.

''The symbol of our guild...'' He muttered in an even quieter voice, which was filled with sadness and some, almost unnoticeable, despair mixed in his tone as well.

The staff in his hands was actually the guild symbol of Ainz Ooal Gown, an item that took everything for the 41 members to create it. They shed both sweat and tears in the creation of this supreme weapon.

It was the guild weapon of Ainz Ooal Gown, that could only be used by Momonga alone, since he was the guild master of the guild.

The Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown.

The only types of items that were equal or above it in power were the almighty, game balance-breaking World Class Items.

In the whole game there were exactly two hundred such items, among which not even 100 had been found yet. Some of these items were so powerful that they could be used in order to request the game developers to change some of the game world's deepest settings.

The backstory of these items is the reason that they are called the world items.

The strongest and the final boss of the DMMO-RPG Yggdrasil, the World Devourer, was a boss who was said to have once devoured every single of the once considered infinite world tree Yggdrasil's leaves that were actually classified as worlds. After devouring these world, the leaves of the world tree, two hundred of them, were transformed into these balance breaker world items that were hidden across the remaining nine worlds for the players to find.

And though they, as being made from entire worlds, were extremely powerful and known to exist across the remaining nine realms of the world tree Yggdrasil, they were considered nearly impossible to find, but then again... it was the exact reason why the guild of Ainz Ooal Gown stood so proudly on the list of the ten best guilds of Yggdrasil.

Ainz Ooal Gown owned the most world items among the other guilds on the server that numbered eleven, with the next guild after them possessing only three of those balance breakers.

In fact, the floating red orb within Momonga's rib cage is also a powerful world class item, though it is extremely powerful as it grows in power the longer it is equipped by the user, it, in exchange for its usage, depletes its user from some levels which is one of the reasons why he had ever only once actually used this item.

The Great war. Or so they called it, it was the epic invasion of 1500 high-level players and NPCs on the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick. Though they had reached all the way to the eight floor, fortunately, they were repelled by the 41 members of Ainz Ooal Gown with great effort. He could still recall how he had used this particular world item on the eight floor in the final hopes of victory, but even he did not expect for the item's power to be enough to destroy over 600 high level entities that ranged from level 70-90, also including some over 100 level 90-100 players.

And to make it even more laughable, that particular ability had only cost him 5 levels!

''...Well, it was fun while it lasted.'' Said Momonga with a small chuckle as he recalled the good days.

23:58:49 said the clock after Momonga checked it once more.

Though he might have regained some of his composure, he was still the saddest that he had ever been. In the real world he is Suzuki Satoru, the salary man, while in Yggdrasil he is Momonga, the leader of Ainz Ooal Gown.

Though the ending of a game should not be that bothersome, it was still sad nonetheless, especially for someone like Momonga who had no friends, girlfriend or family back in the real world. Without Yggdrasil... he was all alone.

And now, even after sending out invitations to each and every guild member of Ainz Ooal Gown, only one had come, and he still had to leave soon after. For Momonga... it was even worse than heartbreaking.

Without his Yggdrasil, without his Nazarick, and without his Ainz Ooal Gown... Suzuki was all alone.

And here he was, counting down the last remaining ten seconds before the server shut down, which will be soon followed by the forced logout.

He once more glanced at the holographic clock besides him.

23:59:52, 53, 54...

Momonga closed his eyes.

23:59:56, 57, 58...

This is the end. Thought Momonga with a broken heart as he counted down the remaining seconds.

00:00:00, 1, 2, 3

''Eh...?'' Exclaimed Momonga in surprise after he opened his eyes.

The strangest thing had happened to him, something that he had not expected.

He was still his game avatar Momonga, and he was still seated upon his throne and with his golden staff still in his hand. The only thing that had changed was the view before him, or should we say the location had changed. Before him now stood a giant dragon that looked like he was made out of glass, but nonetheless... it was a dragon.

No matter what kind of area, either its low level or high level, if there is a dragon then be prepared to run with your tail between your legs.

The game developers of Yggdrasil truly expressed their love for dragons, and in more ways than one.

Lets just say that those shitty devs made sure that their dragons were, well... overpowered.

Momonga quickly analyzed the situation that he had just now found himself in, and quickly though of the reasons why he was here.

''Those shitty devs...'' Muttered Momonga, before the gears in his mind quickly set into battle mode.

This must be a final battle of the game or something... might as well go out with a bang.

Momonga gripped his staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, his burning gaze fixed on the glass dragon's burning crimson eyes.

Momonga was determined to win this battle, no matter what.

After casting [Silent Magic: Detect Enemy], Momonga was sure that the dragon before him was a worthy opponent to go all out against.

After all... it was a level 100 dragon emperor!

''...I shall defeat you, for I am now Ainz Ooal Gown!'' Proclaimed Momonga, no, Ainz Ooal Gown, the Supreme Overlord of the Great Underground Tomb of Nazarick, with excitement and unlimited pride and determination in his voice, before attacking the level 100 dragon emperor.

''Damn it! Damn it all!'' Yelled the giant platinum figure that resembled a beautiful large dragon, as it shot through the starry night sky with speed far exceeding that of a bullet.

The platinum scaled dragon shouted all kinds of curses as it flew through the sky with its mighty platinum wings.

The being in question was the platinum Dragon lord - Tsaindorcus Vaison, eldest son of the Dragon Emperor - Raocus Vaison.

Tsaindorcus Vaison, the platinum dragon lord and the eldest son of the dragon emperor is a mighty dragon who wields great power despite being much younger than the other elder dragon lords.

His form is very majestic, he has sparkling scales as if he were were wearing a white faint light that flows glittery. His form is a graceful and elegant one, enough to make one think whether his body belonged to either the strongest species of the world or a work of art from an art gallery. His body size too is extremely large, if one were to compare him to an elder dragon lord, it would be very hard to tell the difference, since both would possess comparable sizes, despite him being younger.

Tsaindorcus was currently flying with all of his might in order to return by his father's side in order to stop him from whatever madness he has decided to do now. Though most dragon lords would call him mad for even thinking of opposing the mighty emperor of all dragons, despite being a Vaison himself, his father would undoubtedly kill him on the spot if he were to disrespect him like that, but despite the danger, Tsaindorcus knew that what his father was about to do was madness of the highest order, something as dangerous as what he is planning to do cannot be allowed even if he has to die for it.

''I-I must convince him!'' Tsaindorcus cried out loudly as he blazed through the sky with all his might.

''I cannot allow him to cast something as dangerous as that spell! Never again!'' He swore to himself, and even if it costs him his life, Tsaindorcus will stop his father no matter what it takes.

After flying for several hours and with incredible speed that rivaled some of the younger True Dragon lords, the platinum dragon lord finally reached his destination, the great cave of Cadraque that was the home of the dragon emperor Raocus Vaison and his two wives, as well as the emperor's newborn children.

The cave of Cadraque was created by the first dragon emperor before Tsaindorcus' father had even been born - Cadraque Vaison.

Though Cadraque had long since passed away, Tsaindorcus couldn't help but sigh when recalling the fact that it was Cadraque himself who had once brought their magic into this world - Wild magic.

Wild magic was the favored magic of the dragons that considered themselves to be its masters, but even then there were still many other races that could use wild magic as well, but only on a minimal level. It wouldn't be wrong to say that a just recently born dragon would be a far greater wild magic user than an experienced sage of the humanoid races.

The reason for Tsaindorcus' troubles was exactly it, the wild magic. Out of all of the dragons the dragon emperor was the strongest wild magic user and though he was a very modest and a kind ruler, it seems as the loss of his first wife, the mother of Tsaindorcus, had greatly affected Raocus' mental health. Ever since her death, the emperor had slowly indulged himself in his desires for power, he has thought of himself as weak for not being able to save his only love in the world.

And that's where wild magic comes into play, or to be more specific - the spell.

''That accursed spell.'' Tsaindorcus grumbled angrily as he recalled the accursed spell that had not only killed the late dragon emperor, but destroyed an entire continent in the process as well.

Recalling that terrible tragedy, Tsaindorcus quickly recalled his true objective of his visit and thus quickly hastened his steps to faster reach the entrance of the holy cave, but before he had stepped any closer than 200 meters from the entrance, Tsaindorcus felt an enormous wave of magical power wash over him, the feeling that he received was something similar to having an entire lake contentiously pressing down on him.

He knew what this feeling was, no, what the cause of this wave of enormous magical power was... after all, the dragon emperor was the only existence upon this entire world who could release such power, he was the only one besides Cadraque Vaison, who knew of how that accursed spell was cast.

All he could say now was ''...O-Oh no... w, what have you done... father...''

And there was despair in his trembling voice.

For some readers who might not understand what's happening in the story: Momonga is the first player to be summoned from Yggdrasil to the New World instead of the group of players that later became known as the Six Great Gods, and it is done so by the Dragon Emperor himself. Thinking that it is still a game, Momonga shall go to battle!

For the glory of Ainz Ooal Gown!

The levels of the New World:

Ainz and Raocus - level 100 (Even dragons have a growth limit, which is level 100 by Yggdrasil standards)

Other dragons are either level 85 or below.
