Something felt a little..off
It might not be felt by the ordinary outsider or the onlooker but it definitely was front and center to her.
There was this underlying emotion of stress and anxiety building up the source mainly tracing to one person, the Demon king.
It'd be lying to say that the other demon generals aren't experiencing the same with all sharing love for the adorable sephira, Alas=Ramus, It won't go unnoticed the amount of pressure felt due to his undeniable love of his daughter and the direct promise he made, on top of that he seemed to be the one in charge of the whole operation as well.
Walking beside him always made her feel some type of comfort after work but today she worried.
Next to her the usually snarky, bustling Maou who emitted determination and energy seemed like an outer shell of himself. Today he looked grim, hammered down, and was swimming in his thoughts constantly.
At first, she chuckled to herself thinking along the lines of Alas=Ramus glimpsing the sight of her "depressed" papa and was going to make a jab at him for it but the lonely glint in his eye dissipated her thoughts immediately.
As soon as they reached the crosswalk and waited for the signal to walk across she decided to strike the conversation.
"Hey…. your attitude is starting to affect others y'know" shyly said by Emi shoving her hands deeper into her pockets feeling the material.
"Yea.." He dragged on then sighed "It can't be helped" his hands gripped the handlings of Dullahan II harder as they trudged the crosswalk.
Emi looked through her bangs trying to find any sign on his face but the lingering of the green light faded quickly making his expression harder to read.
"You're stressed aren't you?" Emi meekly said
"Huh? Why would I be stressed? I made that promise to Alas=Ramus and I'm going to fulfill it" a masked smile and persona tried to pass through his facade but this did no wonders to fool Emi.
Knowing how close they were till reaching the demon's apartment she stopped dead in her tracks, she didn't want others witnessing the moment…
"It's okay" mumbled Emi under her breath
The sound of Dullahans wheels contacting the concrete of the sidewalk came to a halt and the shuffling of fabric reached her ears
She knew his full attention was on her trying to read her actions as usual but to no avail.
Still not meeting his questioning confused stare she repeated her previous saying again
"It's okay" she took a breath's pause then followed up with "because you have all of us as well, we're all stressing with each of our own worries and fears of what the war may bring but then…"
Maou saw Emi's cheeks dust with a light shade of red provided by the lighting of the moonlight as she looked up her hair seeped like a waterfall falling to the sides showering her back, her face adorn this lovely smile, it was a sight to be seen.
"...We all trust each other, all of us together to get what Alas=Ramus deems will make her happy to make it home safe as a unit and hopefully resolve with peaceful times, don't you feel that trust as well?"
"Yes but-" Maou tried to refute, Emi turned to him and gave a witty smile and pointed in his direction
"We got this! Stop stressing so much or I might not think of you as a worthy opponent anymore you demon!" Emi said jesting at their past relationship as foes bringing a wave of nostalgia.
Maou smirked and went along with her little charade "Don't think I gave up on conquering Ente Isla and Japan as well"
Satisfied, Emi smiled glad she finally found her Maou-wait did she really just think that? She blushed at her thoughts and did a slight turn on her heels to look straight forward her heart in turmoil.
After what seemed like a long moment, and due to the fact that they were late upon arrival, they started to pick up the pace again.
"As Alas=Ramus's papa, I hope that I can trust her mama as well" teased Maou with a chuckle knowing he would stir a reaction from Emi.
"EHH what are you implying you idiot!" screeched Emi into the night hair whipping in fury and Maou waiting to face the wrath.
Trust between them as generals or mama and papa is all that's needed.
